We continue the series of reviews in which we introduce you to the range of hybrid processors that came out of the AMD assembly line. Recall that they are focused on inexpensive multimedia systems, while, depending on the class, they are able to solve a fairly wide range of tasks.
We have already introduced you to the quad-core APUs (AMD A6-3650, A8-3850), which are capable of providing a fairly high level of performance. However, if you need to provide a «basic» level, which will be enough for office applications and web surfing, there are more affordable simplified options in the line. One of these hybrid processors can be the dual-core AMD APU A4-3400, which we will introduce you to in more detail.
Appearance and packaging
The graphic design of the boxed version of the AMD APU is bright and catchy and, as mentioned in the previous reviews, is absolutely identical to the entire model range.
A traditional transparent window through which you can easily see the processor and its markings is located on the left side wall. Recall that one of the advantages of the entire series is the support of the built-in DirectX 11 graphics core, small size and energy efficiency. Below is a logo with the class designation AMD VISION A4. APUs of this series will allow you to view HD video and provide system multitasking, which is designed to «help keep in touch with relatives and friends.»
On the upper side there is a familiar sticker with the key characteristics of the proposed processor: model ( A4 3400 ), clock frequency ( 2.7 GHz ), cache memory size ( 1 MB ), processor socket ( FM1 ), serial number and product code.
Absolutely standard APU package includes a cooling system, processor installation instructions, which also contains information about warranty obligations and a branded sticker for a PC case indicating the model range.
The complete cooling system is marked DKM-7D 52A-A1-GP. We have already encountered it in the AMD APU A6-3500 review. The conclusions of this decision remain the same. This is a budget version of the cooler, which will provide the temperature regime required for a hybrid processor operating at standard settings. The design is standard for solutions of this class supplied in boxed versions of AMD CPUs. The background noise during operation is not too great, however, if the system unit is placed close to the user, over time, it may be necessary to replace it with a more efficient and quiet cooling system.
Brief information about the “product” is indicated on the heat-distributing cover of the processor: processor model, marking (AD3400OJZ22GX) and place of production (Malaysia). You can decipher the marking as follows:

A — the processor belongs to the AMD Athlon family;

D — the scope of this processor — workstations;

OJ — thermal package of the processor 65 W;

Z — the processor is packaged in a 905 pin Socket FM1 case;

GX is the core of the LN-B0 stepping processor.
The back of the APU has 905 Socket FM1 pins, so you’ll need a motherboard with the appropriate CPU socket to work. Please note that motherboards with this processor socket will cost a little more, which ultimately does not have the best effect on the cost of the system.

its appendage was halved in comparison with older models. The lack of a Turbo Core is a little puzzling, because. it remains unclear why the developers did not leave the possibility of obtaining an additional increase in performance, but this is their decision and nothing can be done about it. Of course, its absence is compensated by a relatively high clock frequency, which is not the smallest in comparison with other APUs, but only testing will show what the performance will be in the end.
According to the readings of the CPU-Z utility, we have a processor made using a 32-nm process technology based on the Llano architecture. The clock frequency of the hybrid processor is 2700 MHz, while the core voltage was 1.408 V. The owner of such a “stone” will have at its disposal the computing power of only two cores, while the maximum TDP, which is determined by the manufacturer in the specification, is 65 W.
Cache memory is distributed almost similarly to its older «brothers» in the model range, with the only caveat in the form of a reduced second-level cache. 64 KB L1 cache with 2-line associativity per core, split equally between data and instruction caching; L2 cache — 512 KB per core with 16-line associativity.
The DDR3 memory controller works in dual-channel mode, but unlike the models discussed earlier, it can only support RAM up to DDR3-1600.
The graphics core of the Radeon HD 6410D, due to its low cost, has two SIMD engines disabled, and, therefore, there are only 160 stream processors and eight texture units. As a result of disabling one «back» rendering pipeline, there are only four ROPs available. All this is made according to the 32 nm technological process, in fact, like all representatives of the model range.
