Can I Run Minecraft?
You don’t need a chest full of diamonds to build a gaming PC capable of surmounting the Minecraft system requirements, but the game does have some features available to those with more powerful systems.
In order to craft a rig that meets the Minecraft minimum system requirements, you’ll need to put together something with an Intel Celeron J4105 or AMD FX-4100 processor at the very least. That’s not all, as you’ll need an Intel HD Graphics 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 graphics card, and 4GB of RAM. The Minecraft size is small, taking up just 1GB on your storage solution of choice. This will increase with the number of worlds you create however, and don’t forget to upgrade to Windows 10 64-bit.
If you’re intent on beating the Minecraft recommended system requirements, you needn’t push your budget too much further. Moving up to an Intel i7-6500U or AMD A8-6600K should help increase performance, especially when paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 940M or AMD Radeon HD 8570D GPU. You’ll also need to double on RAM, for 8GB in total.
The major difference between Minecraft RTX system requirementsand the base game can be found in it the GPU they ask for. An Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 is needed, at the minimum, to enjoy ray tracing in Minecraft, and you cannot use an AMD Radeon card.
Minecraft Steam
You can’t get Minecraft on Steam, and you probably won’t ever be able to. However, it is available via PC Game Pass, and the legacy Java edition is still available to download from the game’s official website.
Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition for PC
As of June 7, the once separate Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft are now only available as part of a single package. Meaning united Minecraft PC requirements. Owners of either version will see their licences upgraded to this all-in-one deal, and it should allow players to more easily play across the two versions of the game.
Minecraft performance guide
If you’re struggling to get a smooth frame rate in Minecraft on a laptop for example, there are ways to improve it.
- There’s the obvious, like switching your graphics from “Fancy” to “Fast”, turning down the render distance, turning off clouds, and disabling the more complex lighting and particle effects.
- You can also run the game in either a smaller screen, or full screen. The former helps by giving your computer less on-screen information to process, the latter by making sure your computer focuses only on Minecraft. If one option doesn’t work, try the other.
- If you’re playing on a multiplayer server, being around lots of other players can also cause significant lag. Try setting up your base somewhere a bit more off the beaten track.
- If you want to check your frame rate, you can bring up the debug screen by pressing F3. If you’re still having issues, open the Task Manager and set the Minecraft process to high priority.
How to improve Minecraft performance
Minecraft is not a very performance heavy game but some people still struggle to get a good performance out of their system when playing it. SomeMinecraft settings to turn off or lower that could help with this would be lowering render distance to 10 chunks or lower, turning off clouds, disabling V-Sync, reducing particles, and reducing biome blend. There are many other quality of life settings that aren’t necessary and you can turn off as well. You can find all of these settings under the Video Settings tab in Options.
Minecraft updates and patches
TheMinecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.19.50 update introduced spectator mode, remodeled the Vex mob and fixed many bugs. The Minecraft: Java Edition 1.19.3 update added new spawn eggs, new skins, new commands, and many small bug fixes and changes.
The Minecraft 1.20 update release date is around March 2023. This patch will add new blocks, mobs, and gameplay mechanics. The most important part of the update will be the addition of the new mobs, the Camel and the Sniffer. The Sniffer won the mob vote in the Minecraft Live 2022 Live Stream where the players voted the mob in. Not only will this mob bring itself into the game, it also brings new plants which players can harvest. The Camel will also be a great addition to this update as two players can ride the animal at once which will be the first in Minecraft.
