AMD Radeon HD 8400E video card

Budget laptops are the most popular among consumers. Such solutions for little money enable the user to solve a lot of tasks, in particular, working with documents, viewing photos and videos, downloading web pages … All this can be done using an inexpensive laptop quite easily. But what if you want to get something more for the same price? Several years ago, AMD made a successful attempt to introduce a graphics core into budget processors, which, in theory, should allow the user to work with graphics at the same level as the owners of discrete adapters. How justified is this approach in the case of the AMD Radeon HD 8330 video card? Let’s try to figure it out.

    About the device

The AMD Radeon HD 8330 is not inherently a graphics card in the proper sense of the term. The AMD product in question is a special core integrated into the central processor and designed for graphics processing. Processors with integrated graphics cores are called hybrid processors and, it is worth noting, they are quite widespread in entry-level and mid-range laptops due to their relative efficiency. The laptop, which is based on an AMD hybrid processor, is capable of more than the simplest office solution, at least according to the chip manufacturer. As for the AMD Radeon HD 8330, it is an integral part of the AMD A4-5000 quad-core processor running at 1.5 GHz.

  • The presence of 128 shader cores that operate at a frequency of 497 MHz.
  • Lack of own memory, but at the same time support for DDR3L-1600 common RAM for the system.
  • Dual monitor support via HDMI 1.4a, DisplayPort 1.2, DVI and of course VGA.
  • Integrated UVD 4.2 video decoder.
  • VCE 2.0 Integrated Video Encoder.
  • In general, the above figures are not something impressive, but at the time of their release, Kabini processors, including graphics cores like the HD8330, were considered a very interesting proposal. Especially when you consider their cost, as well as energy efficiency. The product in question is characterized by a TDP of only 15 W, which is certainly an excellent indicator for laptop processors. In the rating of video cards for laptops, few solutions can boast of such «frugality» in terms of power consumption.

    Setting procedure

This model of the accelerator is put into operation as follows:

    1. We dismantle the side panels from the system unit case.
    2. Removing the accelerator and packages.
    3. Dismantle the plug on the back cover of the housing in the place where the adapter will be installed.
    4. Installed in the expansion slot. We fix using a screw in the PC case.
    5. Putting the computer back together.
    6. We connect the monitor to the output of the accelerator.
    7. Turn on the PC and monitor.
    8. After loading the computer system, install the digital media into the drive. After that, install the AMD Radeon HD 7470 driver using its menu.
    9. We are rebooting the PC.
    10. On the monitor, use the “AUTO” button to correct the position of the picture.

After that, the adapter is fully configured and ready for further operation as part of a computer system.

    Actual performance

When announcing and releasing various solutions, manufacturers of processors and video adapters often exaggerate the capabilities of future products based on the proposed CPU and GPU. This trend has not bypassed the hybrid processors created on the Kabini platform. According to reviews, the AMD Radeon HD 8330 is not capable of providing a level of performance equal to or even higher than that of mid-range discrete adapters common at the time of the release of the solution in question. Not that AMD is cheating consumers, the HD8330 performs quite well in synthetic benchmarks.

    Games

But in real gaming applications … The reality is that having a laptop created on the basis of such a solution, the user can count on a maximum of low settings, and in outdated «toys». Relatively new game projects, even if they start, will not be able to demonstrate a more or less acceptable level of performance.

Reviews of the Radeon HD 8400E

hell, Koduri went there to create a division of discrete cards, count almost from scratch. So in a year and a half, with a high degree of probability, we will see video cards from Intel. Or we will hear about them, if in the end they go only for servers and other profs. tasks

I didn’t even say that this is a professional sound level meter, I use what I have at hand! but within the same room and the same measuring device in this case of the phone, you can still have some kind of picture of how much one vidyushka is noisier than the other!

I have the same card. none of these games run normally in FullHD, and some even at low settings give FPS less than 10. maybe something will work fine at 720p, but I don’t believe that everything is on high and so smooth in places.

Listen, you don’t have a stump 4 in-line and a mother on z170, it became interesting what this percentage is capable of in hard overclocking to 5 hertz and 3 hertz memory, so for the sake of interest (I myself have a mother on z170 but buy a stub for 5k a bit of a toad chokes)

    Video processing

As for video processing, the whole issue here rests on too low performance of the graphics core.
