Capcom Finally Releases Street Fighter 5 Benchmarking Tool

Nearly four years after the release of Street Fighter 5, Capcom finally releases a benchmarking tool for the PC version of the game.

Street Fighter 5 may be at the end of its lifecycle, but that does not mean Capcom is going to stop caring about the game. Capcom has been working hard to add new features and content to the game with the release of the latest Champion Edition upgrade kit, which adds a new character along with a bunch of different cosmetic items. In addition to the new stuff, Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition also unlocks all the previously released characters, costumes, and stages for players.

Four years after its release, the game is finally at a point where the character selection screen can rival previous iterations of the franchise. However, Capcom does not seem to be slowing down when it comes to adding new features. Yesterday, Capcom released a new Benchmarking tool for Street Fighter 5 on PC. This is a standalone tool that helps players find the best settings for their setup in order to run Street Fighter 5 as smoothly as possible.

Street Fighter 4 had a similar benchmarking tool built into the game which made it easier for players to test their setups from within the game, but this time, Capcom has released a standalone tool that players will have to download individually. The Street Fighter 5 benchmarking tool is around 1.7 GB in size and runs a demo match that tests the machine to find out the optimal settings. A “Perfect” score means that the game will run without any issues both offline and online; however, the online portion depends more on the users’ networking setup.

Street Fighter 5’s netcode has not been up to player’s expectations, but Capcom recently made some changes to the multiplayer netcode which improved the online play to some extent. However, fans are still not satisfied with the netcode changes, and some have been reporting even worse performance than before. It’s unclear whether Capcom will make any further changes to online multiplayer, but there’s always hope.

There is no word whether a new Street Fighter game is in works, but a previous announcement from Capcom did hint that Street Fighter 5’s competitive scene might be coming to an end in 2020, which means a new Street Fighter game might pick up the Capcom Pro Tour for 2021.

Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is available on PC and PS4.
