Superb processor. Running very cool in FC8 Fanless case, haven’t seen it going higher 55C under load, usually stays below or around 40C. Great for “gaming” HTPC, runs Dolphin emulator smoothly without dedicated graphics card. Highly recommended if you need completely quiet, passively cooled HTPC with gaming capability.
It was my first purchase from Quietpc, and everything was fantastic: great email communication (answered several emails promptly) and fast parcel dispatch. A+ service

Gaming performance with a discrete GPU does improve in line with the rest of what we’ve seen thus far from Ivy Bridge. It’s definitely a step ahead of Sandy Bridge, but not enough to warrant an upgrade in most cases. If you haven’t already made the jump to Sandy Bridge however, the upgrade will do you well.
Dragon Age Origins
DAO has been a staple of our CPU gaming benchmarks for some time now. The third/first person RPG is well threaded and is influenced both by CPU and GPU performance. Our benchmark is a FRAPS runthrough of our character through a castle.
Dawn of War II
Dawn of War II is an RTS title that ships with a built in performance test. I ran at Ultra quality settings at 1680 x 1050:
World of Warcraft
Our WoW test is run at High quality settings on a lightly populated server in an area where no other players are present to produce repeatable results. We ran at 1680 x 1050.
Starcraft 2
We have two Starcraft II benchmarks: a GPU and a CPU test. The GPU test is mostly a navigate-around-the-map test, as scrolling and panning around tends to be the most GPU bound in the game. Our CPU test involves a massive battle of 6 armies in the center of the map, stressing the CPU more than the GPU. At these low quality settings however, both benchmarks are influenced by CPU and GPU. We’ll get to the GPU test shortly, but our CPU test results are below. The benchmark runs at 1024 x 768 at Medium Quality settings with all CPU influenced features set to Ultra.
Metro 2033
We’re using the Metro 2033 benchmark that ships with the game. We run the benchmark at 1024 x 768 for a more CPU bound test as well as 1920 x 1200 to show what happens in a more GPU bound scenario.
DiRT 3
We ran two DiRT 3 benchmarks to get an idea for CPU bound and GPU bound performance. First the CPU bound settings:
Crysis: Warhead
Civilization V
Civ V’s lateGameView benchmark presents us with two separate scores: average frame rate for the entire test as well as a no-render score that only looks at CPU performance. We’re looking at the no-render score here to isolate CPU performance alone:

3DNews Technologies and IT market. News processors More about Ivy Bridge processors and their… The most interesting in the reviews
03.12. 2011 [10:00], Konstantin Khodakovsky Earlier this week, we published a list of 18 Intel Ivy Bridge processors that will be released next year. This line included Core i5 and i7 3000 models aimed at various market niches. Intel’s commercial plans for 2012 have recently leaked online, confirming a number of the listed processors.
The slides show that Ivy Bridge processors will be available starting in the second quarter of 2012, in line with earlier rumors of a delayed launch until April/May. The first models will be Core i3-32xx, i5-3450, i5-3550, i5-3570K, i7-3770 and i7-3770K. In the third quarter, the i5-3470 and i5-3570 processors will be replaced by the i5-3450 and i5-3550, and the faster Core i7-37x0K chip will replace the i7-3770K.
The third quarter will also see the continuation of new Core i3 models. In the last quarter of the year, the Intel assortment will remain unchanged, with the exception of the withdrawal from the market of Core i3 processors with Sandy Bridge architecture. As for the Sandy Bridge-E line of processors for LGA 2011, only one junior 4-core i7-39 model will be released in 201260X. Intel’s internal materials leaked online also reveal details about the performance of Ivy Bridge processors, which the company devoted several slides to evaluating. The upcoming architecture, although in general it will only be transferred to the 22-nm Sandy Bridge process technology, Intel will still make a number of small changes to it to increase computing capabilities. The Maho Bay desktop platform will feature Intel 7-series chipsets with only two new features: a USB 3.0 controller and a more powerful 3-monitor integrated graphics accelerator. Of course, the last possibility is not intended for games, but rather for office work. Compared to the 6-series chipsets, the Z77’s only difference will be the new PCI Express configuration, which assumes that one slot will have 8 lanes, while the other two will use a 4-lane bus. Most Ivy Bridge processors will have TDPs of 65W and 45W. And for high-performance models, the power consumption limit will be 77 watts. All processors will receive a new integrated core Intel HD Graphics 4000 or 2500, Quick Sync 2.0 hardware video encoding technology and support for OpenCL. For PCI Express 3.0, there is no exact data yet, but anecdotal evidence indicates that Intel is currently facing some problems in this regard, due to which motherboards will be able to technically support the third generation of the bus, and at least the first processors will be deprived of this technology. Like Sandy Bridge, hopefully some of the entry-level Core i3 Ivy Bridge models will eventually get an HD Graphics 4000 instead of an HD 2500. Intel compared the performance of the new architecture using a number of processors as an example, of which we will test only two chips: the Core i7-2600, a member of the Sandy Bridge family, and the Core i7-3770, belonging to the Ivy Bridge generation. The main characteristics of the processors (frequency, number of processing cores and cache memory) are the same, the difference lies in the integrated graphics core and minor improvements made to the CPU. In ArcSoft MediaConverter 7, the new processor showed a 56% advantage over its predecessor when transcoding 10 minutes of HD video. Testing in the 3DMark Vantage pact showed an overall superiority of 2.5 to 3 times — most of the credit, of course, belongs to IGP, but the CPU outperformed Sandy Bridge by 17%. It’s worth noting that the HD 4000 graphics core is 200 MHz slower than the HD 2000, even in Turbo mode. Other tests conducted on SYSmark 2012, HDXPRT 2011, Cinebench 11.5, ProShow Gold 4.5, and Excel 2010 show that Ivy Bridge’s architectural changes and higher clocks with Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 provide over 7% performance gains. up to 15%. Excel was able to use the faster Core i7-3770 cache for a 25% advantage. Testing the Core i5 compared to a similar processor of the current generation shows about the same level of increase in computing power. So, official Intel tests show that the new generation of Core iX processors provides a performance increase that cannot be called significant. The graphics capabilities of future chips have received a noticeable improvement, but they are not so high if we compare the HD 4000 with the HD 3000. However, the main difference, as befits the Intel «Tick» production cycle, is the new 22-nm process technology and lower power consumption, which will allow you to increase the battery life of laptops and ultrabooks, and cTDP technology will provide a high performance boost when working from the network due to overclocking. More significant changes in Intel processors should be expected only in 2013 with the release of a new architecture codenamed Haswell. Related content: Source:
