The LGA 1150 platform (another name is Socket h4) replaced LGA 1155 in 2013, and was replaced by LGA 1151 in 2015. In total, two generations of processors were released for the LGA 1150 socket:
1) More modern, built on the 14nm Broadwell architecture;
2) Older, built on Haswell’s 22nm architecture.

CPUMark — processor performance rating in points. It can be used to roughly compare the capabilities of different models. The rating is the same for all generations of AMD and Intel processors.

Note:
For Socket LGA1150 (sometimes referred to as Socket h4), Intel released two generations of processors: the 4th generation Core was built on the 22nm Haswell architecture, and the next 5th generation Core (Broadwell architecture) already received a 14nm process technology and an advanced integrated graphics core — Iris Pro 6200. Later, a series of integrated HD Graphics 510-530 GPUs will be created on its basis.
It was the Haswell architecture that received the main distribution on the LGA1150, since Broadwell was originally conceived by Intel as an intermediate experimental link in the transition to the 14nm process technology. Because of this, the Broadwell line received only two custom Core models and 6 Xeon models for 1150 socket.
The Haswell line (4th generation) also received a number of Xeon CPUs for socket 1150 in addition to Core models.

K versions — provide greater performance due to increased clock frequencies, have an unlocked multiplier, which allows you to «overclock» the processor.
T versions — provide increased energy efficiency and fit into a 35W heat pack.

    What are the features of

    The most important advantage of these stones is the presence of as much as 128mb (!) L4 cache. Its presence allows you to significantly increase performance in certain tasks, and also makes the system unpretentious in relation to the frequency of RAM.

    What about overclocking?

    The first thing worth noting is that after overcoming the frequency of 4.2 GHz, a strong increase in performance is no longer noticeable, so the feasibility of higher frequencies is questionable.

    The second is that heat generation strongly depends on the quality of the cover installed by the Chinese and the liquid metal under it. Unsuccessful instances begin to overheat strongly already when approaching 4 GHz.

    The maximum operating temperature for the entire series is 100 degrees, but it is desirable to keep it at no more than 75-80 degrees in the load.

    There are several ways to overclock Crystal Well, but first it would be good to decide what frequency you need to achieve. So, to work with mid-range video cards, a level of 3.5 — 3.9 is enoughGHz. Frequencies of 4 GHz and above will allow the processor to load video cards of the nvidia 1080 level.

    Multiplier overclocking

    The simplest and most familiar method that works on motherboards with any chipset. Slowly raise the multiplier, while turning off the turbo boost. You will need to manually raise the voltage, but a slight overclocking can be done without it.

    There is an opinion that straps work best on the older model — 4980HQ.

    Turbo Boost Overclocking

    If the board for some reason does not support multiplier overclocking, you can resort to overclocking through turbo boost blocking.

But even in this case, the range is very large, so the user must be well aware of the tasks for which he will use the computer in order to select the optimal parameters for solving his problems.

    Processor line

    Intel has been releasing several lines of processors for quite a long time. They may differ in their characteristics, but are combined into conditional classes according to their purpose:

    1. Celeron. Budget computing cores designed for installation in systems of the lowest price level, for example, office or simple home. Celeron processors are usually obtained by purposefully weakening older models, which makes them as cheap as possible for the end user. Suitable for surfing the Internet and working with documents.

    2. Pentium. Once upon a time, the processors of this family made Intel a big name and brought it to the world leaders in the production of CPUs. Today, Pentiums are no longer the most powerful solution — there are better options. In terms of their power, they occupy an intermediate position between frankly budget and weak Celerons and older lines. Among the Pentiums, you can find very worthy solutions that will even run games three or four years ago, especially if you have a good video card.

    3. Core i3. This is the youngest line of computing devices that have two computing cores and work on hyper-trading technology, that is, the creation of virtual threads. Thus, with two physical cores, the user has four threads at his disposal. A good average indicator of a universal nature for most household tasks.

    4. Core i5. This line was originally designed by Intel as mid-priced solutions that will satisfy users who want more power, but do not have enough money to buy top versions. These processors have either 2 hyperthreaded cores or 4 physical cores with the same number of threads. Without exception, all models are equipped with TurboBoost technology, which actually automatically overclocks the processor, increasing the nominal clock frequency multiplier, if there are no contraindications to this.

      Core i5 processor

    5. Core i7. The most powerful CPU, positioned as a user for individual work. They almost always have at least 8 computational threads, but there can be half as many physical cores. The most powerful systems have 8 real cores. Turbo boost is available in all i7 models. This processor is often used by professionals for work, it is also a favorite line of gamers. But it will also have to be spent on the acquisition, respectively.

    6. Xeon. These processors were initially positioned as server processors. Great processing power is combined with additional improvements that increase stability and minimize the number of possible errors. These models can work in multiprocessor systems, however, with a little technical literacy, they can also be used as solutions for personal computers. However, the profit from this solution is pretty exaggerated if the computer is supposed to be used for games.

    LGA 1150 (Socket h4)

    LGA 1150 (or Socket h4) — a socket for installing Haswell microarchitecture Intel processors (including Haswell Refresh) and Broadwell on the motherboard. Designed for desktop systems, workstations and servers of medium and entry levels.

    The socket was released in 2013 as a replacement for the LGA 1155 socket (Socket h3). Later, in 2015, it was replaced by the LGA 1151 socket.

    LGA 1150 is made in the Land Grid Array form factor, that is, inside it there are spring-loaded contacts, to which the installed processor is pressed. The number of contacts is 1150. The physical dimensions of the installed processors are 37.5 x 37.5 mm.

    The holes for installing the processor cooling system on the LGA 1150 socket are located exactly the same as on the LGA 1151/1155/1156 sockets. That is, you can use the same coolers for them. In other respects, these sockets are different (not compatible), despite the similar sizes of supported processors and almost the same number of pins.

    Processors installed in the LGA 1150 socket have an integrated memory controller (two DDR3 channels up to 1866 MHz), an integrated PCI Express controller (16 PCI Express 3. 0 lanes), up to 4 processing cores, and an integrated video core. Some Xeon processors do not have a video core. Core i7, Core i3, and most Xeon processors support Hyper-Threading.

    LGA 1150 communicates with the motherboard chipset via the DMI2 bus (up to 2 GB/s in each direction).

    The Intel FDI (Flexible Display Interface) bus is used to output an image from the processor’s graphics core to the monitor, through which the core is connected to the display output unit of the chipset. The FDI bus uses two lanes with a bandwidth of 2.7 Gbps each. Supports connection of up to 3 monitors via VGA interface.

    LGA 1150 desktop motherboards use Intel H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H87, Z87, H9 chipsets7, Z97.

    Motherboards based on the Intel C222, C224, and C226 chipsets are designed for server systems and workstations with this socket.
