Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Features

Nvidia Pascal

The latest Nvidia 10-series cards including the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 5GB is powered by Nvidia Pascal – the world’s most advanced GPU gaming architecture. Brand new VR experiences are now available as well as the latest technologies from Nvidia. This includes Nvidia Ansel, G-Sync and also 3D Vision.

5GB GDDR5 Memory

Exclusive to China, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 5GB is mainly aimed at the mass amount of internet cafes. This card runs off of the GPU variant GP106-350-K3-A1 and most notably has 5GB of GDDR5 Memory. This extra memory is required for gaming cafes which need more than the 3GB GTX 1060 but at a cheaper cost. The CUDA Cores, transistor count, ROPs, Texture Units as well as clocks are the same as the 6GB version of this card. However the memory interface width and bandwidth have been decreased to 160-Bit and 160 GB/s respectively.

Chinese exotic from five manufacturers

The most interesting in the reviews

Ivan Grudtsyn

Late last year, NVIDIA gave AIB partners the opportunity to release a 5 GB version of the GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, limiting its distribution to China and neighboring East Asian countries. Almost simultaneously with the news about the GTX 1060 5GB, data appeared about the first accelerator based on the NVIDIA GP106-350 core — the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WindForce OC 5G. Almost six months later, we can state that 5GB cards remain a curiosity from China, but their range has been significantly expanded.

Along with the overclocked version of the aforementioned video card (1556-1771 MHz core), Gigabyte also released the usual GeForce GTX 1060 WindForce 5G. Its frequency formula corresponds to the recommended 1506-1708/2002(8008) MHz. Recall that the GeForce GTX 1060 5GB not only lacks 1 GB of GDDR5 memory, but also the memory bus has been cut — from 192 to 160 bits. On the other hand, this version of the GTX 1060 looks more promising than the three-gigabyte one based on future “gluttonous” games: in the past, many video cards prematurely lost their relevance due to lack of buffer memory.

The ASUS GTX 1060-5G-SI adapter is made in the design of the Expedition series cards, which are positioned as solutions that can work 24/7. The device is cooled by a two-slot DirectCU II cooler and operates at the recommended frequencies.

ZOTAC limited itself to the budget accelerator GeForce GTX 1060-5GD5 MI. It is equipped with a modest cooling system and three video outputs — DVI-D, DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b. It seems that many such video cards work (or worked) as part of cryptocurrency farms.

The brainchild of Chinese engineers, the ASL GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Skynet Dual looks more solid than the ZOTAC model, but still offers only three image output connectors.

Of all NVIDIA’s AIB partners, the Chinese company Maxsun was the most responsibly approaching the release of the 5 GB version of the GTX 1060. In its assortment there are four models of this class with the same frequencies (1506-1708/2002 (8008) MHz), but different printed circuit boards and coolers. All representatives of the quartet have the same set of video outputs: single DVI-D and HDMI, and three DisplayPort connectors.
