In June 2016, NVIDIA introduced the GeForce GTX 1070 graphics accelerator built on the 16nm Pascal architecture. Video cards of this family, such as the GTX 1060 (6 GB), GTX 1070, GTX 1080, deservedly can be called popular hits that have become the backbone of the gaming systems of a huge number of gamers around the world for several years. Despite the fact that the so-called «rays» appeared only in the next generation of NVIDIA video cards, the Pascal architecture turned out to be undeniably excellent, both in the opinion of numerous players and in the opinion of other involved persons. In turn, another popular hit — AMD Radeon RX 580 video cards based on Polaris 20 chips in the most current version with 8 GB of video memory appeared in April 2017 and became a rebranding of the previous generation of video cards from the Polaris 10 family (Radeon RX 400 Series).
Both solutions are still popular with a large number of gamers to this day, which, in the face of a total shortage and exorbitant prices for new solutions, allows them to keep the system in a «gaming» state. Most of these video cards were purchased by users either at the start of sales or between two mining waves at prices that can only be remembered now. I am sure that later these video cards will receive legendary status, along with other hits of past years.
Techspot decided to see if the veterans NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB still had gunpowder in 2021 by pitting them head-on in 15 actual games at 1080p and 1440p resolutions using various quality settings. In order not to limit the performance of video cards, all tests were conducted on a system with a Ryzen 9 5950X processor, 32 GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 RAM and the latest available display drivers. The list of games used and the results of the work done are presented below.
