In the list of changes in the beta version 5. 92.4397 of the popular AIDA64 information and diagnostic utility, there were a lot of interesting things for those who are interested in Intel processor innovations. The developer of AIDA64 — FinalWire — has declassified not only the next CPU releases planned by the Santa Clara company, but also the names of eleven 9th generation Core i3 / i5 models.
Among the Intel Core processors listed above, many are associated with the upcoming replenishment of the Coffee Lake-S desktop CPU lineup for the mainstream LGA1151/Z370 platform. Currently, this family includes only six Core i3 / i5 / i7-8000 series chips, but dozens of others will join them in the first quarter of next year. Note here that retail availability issues with 8th Gen desktop processors are unlikely to last.
The older six-core CPU Core i7-8700K and its «deputy» Core i7-8700 with lower frequencies and heat dissipation will be joined by the Core i7-8700B (it seems to be an analogue of the i7-8700 with an extended market life cycle), Core i7- 8670 and economical processors Core i7-8700T and Core i7-8670T with a nameplate TDP of about 35 watts. Previously, all of them will be characterized by: the presence of six x86 cores, 12 MB of shared cache memory of the third level, support for Intel Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading technologies.

To help the Core i5-8600K in the fight against Ryzen 7 from the AMD camp, a more productive (due to a slight increase in frequency) Core i5-8650K model will come. In addition, processors with an extended technical support period Core i5-8500B and Core i5-8400B, and energy-efficient CPUs Core i5-8500T, Core i5-8420T and Core i5-8400T will appear in the Intel assortment. By analogy with the existing Core i5-8600K and Core i5-8400 products, their brothers will operate with six cores and six data processing threads, and will also cost 9MB L3 cache.
- Core i5/Coffee Lake-S (95W): i5-8650K, i5-8600K;
- Core i5/Coffee Lake-S (65W): i5-8650, i5-8550, i5-8500, i5-8500B, i5-8420, i5-8400, i5-8400B;
- Core i5/Coffee Lake-S (~35W): i5-8500T, i5-8420T, i5-8400T.
The Core i3-8000 quad-core family will include ten new processors. The youngest among them will be the Core i3-8000 (which echoes the name of the series) and the Core i3-8000T. The Core i3-8350K, Core i3-8320, Core i3-8320T, and Core i3-8300T solutions will stand out from the rest of the Core i3/Coffee Lake-S CPUs with more L3 cache — 8 MB versus 6 MB.
- Core i3/Coffee Lake-S (91W): i3-8350K;
- Core i3/Coffee Lake-S (65W): i3-8320, i3-8120, i3-8100, i3-8020, i3-8000;
- Core i3/Coffee Lake-S (~35W): i3-8320T, i3-8300T, i3-8120T, i3-8100T, i3-8020T, i3-8000T.
Dual-core Pentium Gold G5000 processors will be limited to 3 MB of cache memory, but, unlike the Core i3, they will support Intel Hyper-Threading technology and will almost certainly be more economical than the usual representatives of the Core i3 / i5 / i7-8000 family with their 65 -watt TDP.
- Pentium Gold/Coffee Lake-S (50+W): G5620, G5600, G5500, G5420, G5400;
- Pentium Gold/Coffee Lake-S (~35 W): G5620T, G5500T, G5420T, G5400T.
Celeron G4000 are content with, one might say, an archaic set of features: two cores, two data processing threads and two megabytes of shared L3 cache. One way or another, for “office” PCs, even the most modest processors of the Coffee Lake-S family are by no means the worst option. There will be six such CPUs in total:
- Celeron/Coffee Lake-S (50+W): G4950, G4930, G4920, G4900;
- Celeron/Coffee Lake-S (~35 W): G4930T, G4900T.
According to FinalWire, Intel will release similar Core i3/i5/i7-8000 Xeon E-2100(G) processors, aka Coffee Lake-S WS, for workstations. The suffix G for representatives of the «2100th» series can mean anything, and not just the use of an enhanced graphics subsystem. The Xeon brand is usually associated with ECC memory support, and the Xeon E-2100(G) is unlikely to be an exception in this regard.
What is the architecture and capabilities of the ninth-generation Core i3 / i5-9000 processors added to AIDA64, among others, is still difficult to determine. They can be both hypothetical Coffee Lake-R (Refresh) CPUs on the “14++” nanometer process technology, and Ice Lake on the “10+” nanometer. Finally, the third option, which also explains the release of the Z390 chipset planned for the second half of 2018, is the appearance among Coffee Lake CPUs for the mass buyer of the first eight-core offers (Core i7-9000). Accordingly, chips with fewer cores will be included in the junior series Core i5-9000 (6-8 cores) and Core i3-9000 (4-6 cores). However, at this stage, this is only our guesswork.
- Core i5/LGA115x (High TDP): i5-9600K;
- Core i5/LGA115x (mid TDP): i5-9600, i5-9500, i5-9400;
- Core i5/LGA115x (Lower TDP): i5-9400T;
- Core i3/LGA115x (medium TDP): i3-9300, i3-9100, i3-9000;
- Core i3/LGA115x (Lower TDP): i3-9300T, i3-9100T, i3-9000T.
Intel pins great hopes on the forthcoming update of its mobile processor range. In particular, Kaby Lake-H (Core i7-7820HK, etc.) will be replaced by Coffee Lake-H solutions — Core i7-8000H and Core i9-8000H. Of the latter, FinalWire highlighted the overclocking CPU Core i9-8950K. We believe that it will operate with six or eight physical cores.
According to AnandTech colleagues, the Core i9-8950HK, Core i7-8850H and Core i7-8750H will have six x86 cores, 12 MB cache and support for Hyper-Threading. The more modest Core i5-8400H processor will be limited to six data processing threads and 9MB L3 cache. Finally, the Core i3-8300H will operate with four processing cores (without Hyper-Threading) and 8 MB of L3 cache. The approximate level of heat dissipation of the above CPU Core i7 / i9-8000H is 45 W, with the possibility of a slight (5 W) deviation in one direction or another.
Mobile workstation manufacturers will be able to use Coffee Lake-H WS processors instead of Coffee Lake-H, which together form the Xeon E-2100M series (the Xeon E-2176M and Xeon E-2186M models are mentioned separately above). The benefits of dedicated CPUs will almost certainly include support for DDR4 memory with error control (ECC) and Intel vPro software for remote resource management and protection against malware.
