Athlon 64 3400+ coming out in 10 days: orders accepted
The last few days in our news feed regularly appeared
messages about the start of accepting orders for the supply of yet unannounced Intel processors. It is characteristic that such proposals are currently dispersed in various parts of the world. This allows us to say that such proposals do not have the character of misunderstandings or errors.
And yet, we should not forget about AMD products. Moreover, the date of announcements of new Athlon 64 processors is much closer to the present moment than the announcements of Prescott processors scheduled for February. To be more precise, the most real contender for an early announcement is the Athlon 64 3400+ processor in Socket 754 with 1 MB of L2 cache and a frequency of 2.2 GHz. The announcement of the processor should take place on January 6, that is, almost a week and a half later. Of course, «interested persons» already have engineering samples of processors in their hands and are hastily preparing reviews so as not to burden themselves with work on the holidays following January 1 :).
«Mere mortals» are also not deprived of attention. A number of German and American stores began to accept orders for the supply of this processor. Characteristically, the correct marking like ADA3400AEP5AP leaves no room for misunderstandings — these are absolutely real processors with a frequency of 2.2 GHz, and not early engineering samples of Athlon 64 3200+ with the old rating and «AO» symbols at the end of the marking.
It is clear that no one has yet announced the availability of processors in stock, but the price has already been set — it ranges from $444 to $470. We remind you that the official wholesale price of the Athlon 64 3400+ at the time of the announcement will be $417, while the Athlon 64 3200+ will drop in price to $278. In the price range below $300 there will already be two Athlon 64 models operating at 2.0 GHz — one with 1 MB cache, the other with 512 KB cache. Buyers will have a real opportunity to choose, since back in the first half of December only one Athlon 64 3200+ model officially existed.
«Heavyweight» named Athlon 64 FX-53 (2.4 GHz), equipped with 1 MB cache in the second level, dual-channel memory controller and a free multiplier has been featured in search engines like Price.ru for a long time. However, AMD has not yet officially decided when this processor will be announced. It is scheduled to be done in early February, which leads us to the conclusion that the most successful day for the announcement of Athlon 64 FX-53 will be February 2, when Prescott and Pentium 4 XE 3.4 GHz will be released.
However, the retail price of the Athlon 64 FX-53 has not been determined. It is known that the Athlon 64 FX-53 will have to replace the Athlon 64 FX-51, the latter will simply be discontinued.
