All aboard the Intel Arc! Or Ark? Intel’s first true dedicated graphics cards are here, and we’ve got the Arc A750 review along with the Arc A770 review. Intel has set its sights on the value midrange market with the A750, hoping to earn a spot among the best graphics cards. We’ve thoroughly tested the card and have come away far more impressed than we were with the budget-friendly Arc A380.
This is a companion review to the A770, so there’s a lot of additional detail in that article. You can also check out our deep dive into the Intel Arc Alchemist architecture. For the A750, we’ll skip straight to the important bits and render our verdict.

Intel Arc A750 Specifications
Here’s the quick rundown of the full Intel Arc desktop card lineup. The A580 hasn’t launched yet, so we’re missing some information like the price, but everything else should now be available. That’s not quite true, as the A750 and A770 will actually go on sale next week, on October 12 — right alongside the Nvidia RTX 4090, which promises gobs more performance for slightly more than five times the price of the Arc A750. 2)

The Intel Arc A750 follows the familiar pattern of taking the same GPU and core design of a more expensive model and then trimming down some features. The A750 disables four of the potential 32 Xe-Cores and has a slightly lower boost clock, giving it about 85% of the theoretical compute of the A770. It also has half the memory of the 16GB A770 Limited Edition, clocked at 16 Gbps instead of 17.5 Gbps, so that’s 9% less memory bandwidth. Memory capacity is our bigger concern.
8GB of VRAM was great back in 2016 when the GTX 1070 and 1080 launched. However, six years later, we’re not quite as keen on only having 8GB of memory. Granted, the RX 6600-series cards from AMD are all packing 8GB, and everything from the RTX 3050 through the RTX 3070 Ti — with the exception of the RTX 3060 — also has 8GB. But one look at where games are heading with VRAM use, and we can’t help but think the A770 16GB is probably worth the extra $60. The extra memory could definitely help big brother leave his little sibling sucking wind.
Looking at the direct competition, which, based on current GPU prices, would be the AMD RX 6600 or RX 6650 XT and the Nvidia RTX 3050, things are a bit messy. Let’s just get this out of the way and say that the RTX 3050 ends up hopelessly outclassed. That was already true with the RX 6600, and the Arc A750 can pour some salt into the wound. But the AMD cards aren’t going to roll over so easily.
In short, AMD promises good performance and excellent value for people that aren’t worried about ray tracing or fancy schmancy AI upscaling technologies. On the other hand, Intel and Nvidia offer much better ray tracing performance along with matrix cores that can boost machine learning and AI performance.
With 28 Xe-Cores and a nominal 2050 MHz boost clock — and we say «nominal» because, as you’ll see later, the Arc A750 easily exceeded that mark in our testing — Intel offers 14.7 teraflops of graphics compute performance. For deep learning and AI workloads, the A750 can perform 118 teraflops of FP16 calculations, or double that for INT8 work with 235 teraops of compute. Don’t worry too much about the loss in precision, as companies like Google and Facebook have proven that 8-bits is sufficient for such work.
By comparison, AMD’s RX 6650 XT has 10.8 teraflops of compute, while the RTX 3050 putters along with a meager 9.0 teraflops. Of course, that’s on paper, and you can’t just look at theoretical numbers to determine a winner — we’ve seen AMD’s RDNA 2 chips punch well above their theoretical specs over the past two years. And that’s why we run the benchmarks.

The best graphics cards are the lifeblood of any gaming PC — it’s its beating heart that delivers stunning pixels to the screen. While there is no one size fits all solution, we are here to take what is needed from those who want it. Some want the fastest graphics card, others want the best value for money, and many are looking for the best card for the price. The balance between performance, price, features and efficiency is important because no other component impacts your gaming experience as much as a graphics card.
Where our GPU benchmarks rank all cards purely based on performance, our list of the best graphics cards attempts to cover the entire package. Price, availability, performance, features, and efficiency are all important, although the weighting becomes more subjective. With cryptocurrency and Ethereum miners still seemingly grabbing GPUs and supply chain issues continuing, it seems like reasonably priced graphics cards are nowhere to be seen.
Except perhaps for the (weak) hope for the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT , Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 and Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards. All of these should be closer to the «budget» end of the spectrum (at least for the Arc 128 Vector Engine variant), with AMD and Nvidia listing an MSRP of 19$9 and $249 respectively. Can supply meet demand? Probably not, but at least they should be less attractive to miners. However, prices and availability of all the best graphics cards remain terrible, and GPU prices on marketplaces like eBay are often 50-100% higher than the official starting prices.
Graphics card offerings
Supply shortages, price gouging and speculation that have been driving GPU prices for over a year have not subsided. However, if you’re looking for a good deal on a new graphics card, we suggest checking out our RTX 3080 Deals, RTX 3070 Deals, and RTX 3060 Deals, where we suggest some ways to save on either the graphics card itself or the pre-built system that comes together. with him. Generally speaking, the best deals will cost only 25-50% more than nominal suggested retail prices.
While we have sorted the list above in order of performance, we have sorted the cards below based on performance as well as our own subjective rating. We look at performance, price, power and features and then adjust things accordingly, although opinions naturally differ. Best Graphics Cards for Gaming 2022
Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3080 uses the new and improved Ampere architecture. It’s over 30% faster than the previous generation 2080 Ti and costs $500 less. The new RTX 3080 Ti failed to dislodge the incumbent leader thanks to its significantly higher price. If you’re serious about making the most of all graphics settings and want to play at 4K or 1440p, then this card is the one for you — it’s mostly overkill for 1080p games, although enabling all ray tracing effects in games that support this function, gives a resolution of 1080p. still reasonable.
If you missed the first round of RTX GPUs, the RTX 30 series could finally take you to the ray tracing train. With potentially double the ray tracing performance of Turing and games like Cyberpunk 2077 using even more ray tracing effects, the RTX 3080 is your best bet for gaming in all its ray tracing glory without breaking the bank.
Ampere also offers improved tensor cores for DLSS, a technology we’re sure to see in future games, now that it doesn’t require learning for every supercomputer game. We’re seeing a lot more games with DLSS 2.0 these days, helped by the fact that it’s basically a switch and a UI update to make it work in Unreal Engine and Unity. Nvidia RT and DLSS performance is also slightly better than the new AMD RX 6000 cards, which is a good thing since Nvidia sometimes lags behind in traditional rasterization performance (which is what our raw numbers are based on).
The biggest problem with the RTX 3080 will definitely be finding it in stock at prices that aren’t terrible. For example, the average eBay price for the last month was over $1,750. However, given the even higher prices of the 3080 Ti and 3090, this remains our top pick for a fast GPU right now.
We select a video card for a miniITX system / Sudo Null IT News miniITX format. Firstly, games for PC are cheaper, and secondly, on PC you can play games for the game console that are not intended and that will never be released on consoles. In addition, I wanted the machine to combine the functions of a media server. Well, i.e. children to play with toys and watch cartoons / movies.

But, as it turned out, not everything is so simple. The last time I climbed into the system unit with a screwdriver was seven years ago and somehow I’m not very oriented in modern “iron” formats and technologies. As it turned out, assembling a miniITX computer turned out to be a non-trivial task with its own pitfalls. Looking ahead, I’ll say that I had to buy / change previously purchased components, work with a hacksaw and a file, and as a result I assembled two mini-systems — a gaming machine for children and a workstation for myself.
It is generally accepted that the lot of miniITX systems is HTPC and workstations that are undemanding to the graphics subsystem. Indeed, assembling a gaming machine causes some difficulties associated with the placement of a video card in the case and an optimal cooling system.

Choosing a case
There are several types of cases for miniITX boards:
- Barebone (these are square ones)
- UltraSlim (thin cases up to 7 cm thick without the possibility of installing expansion cards)
Width 20-30 cm, length 32-36 cm, height 12-20 cm.
Perhaps the ideal case for our task. As a rule, a full-fledged ATX power supply with all the consequences is installed in such cases — active PFC, high efficiency, it can be replaced, since there are enough offers on the market. In such cases, you can install a full-sized video card and, as a result, more powerful compared to low-profile ones. In such cases, there are enough ventilation holes and it is possible to install a large low-speed fan inside, which has a beneficial effect on cooling during quiet operation. You can also install more than one hard drive.
The only negative is the size, or rather the thickness. Such a case can only be installed in one position and cannot be placed behind a monitor/TV or hung on a VESA mount. But on the other hand, you can put a cup of coffee and a saucer with cookies on it.

Choosing a video card
Pay attention to the space for the video card. The video card should not just be single-slot, but occupy exactly one slot. Most cards, although they are single-slot, take up more space due to the heatsink and fan. You can either find an appropriate case, such as the more expensive Cooler Master Elite 120, or an appropriate graphics card, such as one of these:

The developers of these video cards require a 400-watt power supply, which is quite feasible in the form factor of Barebone cases.
Width 20-30 cm, length 32-36 cm, height 9-12 cm. This format already imposes some restrictions on us. Only low-profile graphics cards can be installed. The power supplies here are usually TFX 8cmX8cmX15cm or Flex 8cmX6cmX15cm with lower power than ATX (usually no more than 300 watts). The advantages include a smaller size than the Barebone and the ability to install both horizontally and vertically (usually, legs for horizontal installation are included). With a horizontal installation, you can no longer put a cup of coffee, because the ventilation holes will be blocked.

Cooling problems are immediately visible. The PSU fan blows into the case, and the vent on the opposite side is blocked by the graphics card. The case fan only cools the hard drive. Vertical installation is possible only on legs, otherwise the ventilation hole for the video card will be blocked. Be prepared for the case to heat up under load.
There are also cases in which the power supply is located not on top, but on the bottom, and the video card is located directly above it. For example Foxconn RS-224.
Also, some inconvenience can cause the use of the drive when the case is installed vertically. In some cases, it is possible to install a slim drive (Winsis Wi-08)
Choosing a video card
We are also narrowing down the range of suitable video cards. The video card must be low profile and occupy one slot. Compared to full-sized video cards, such video cards are less powerful.

The manufacturers of these video cards require a 300 watt power supply, which can already cause some difficulties, since a 300 watt power supply is the exception rather than the rule for this case format. In fact
, even if the power supply is running at 70% efficiency (~200 watts) this power will be enough for the normal operation of the machine:
- Intel Sandy Bridge processors consume 65 watts
- Intel Ivy Bridge processors consume 55 watts, and below 2900 MHz — 35 watts
- Video cards on the first two presented chips consume 65 watts, less powerful on the GeForce GT 610 chip — 35 watts
- Memory, fans and hard drive together ~20 watts

Enclosures of this type are smaller and lower than the previous ones. First of all, due to the fact that their main purpose is HTPC based on integrated CPU and GPU and workstations / thin clients. It is these cases that can be hung on a VESA mount on a monitor. These cases are not designed for the use of expansion cards (video cards) and picoPSU with a capacity of up to 90 watt. But there are instances with ATX-blocks with a power of 150-250 watts. As a rule, such power supplies have their own format and in case of failure it will be necessary to completely change the case. Due to the small size of the power supplies (~7cmX7cmX10cm), there is no need to talk about any voltage stabilization and high efficiency.

Given the small size of the case, the cooling system looks very good. Air flows from the power supply do not pass through the case, but are blown down. Due to the upper and lower openings, when installing fans in them, the case will be very well ventilated. There is only a small problem with cooling the hard drive. The processor requires a low-profile cooling system.
Choose a video card
Since there is no way to install a video card on a regular basis, we will have to resort to the services of a hacksaw and a file, and we will also need additional devices. With proper skill, the video card can be placed parallel to the motherboard through a flexible or angled riser.
To implement such an idea, you will need to choose a motherboard with the top location of the processor socket.
Unfortunately, with this approach, the video card blocks the southbridge heatsink, which makes it difficult to cool. When using a hard corner riser, the graphics card can be positioned lower under the motherboard, after moving the power supply to the right. If this succeeds and the power of the power supply allows, then you can also plug in a more powerful video card that occupies more than one slot. In the presented layout, only the compact ZOTAC GeForce GT 610 810Mhz PCI-E 2.0 1024Mb 1066Mhz 64 bit card will fit (photo above).
