If you want to use a stylus — or your fingers — for notes or drawings, your best bet is to buy a 2-in-1 laptop. These convertible laptops, which feature a touchscreen, give you more to work with than just a boring ol’ touchpad, allowing your creative juices flow. We’ve listed the best 2-in-1 laptops below, including laptops with 360-degree flipping abilities and detachable devices with built-in stands.

The Quick List

Best overall

1. Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 (Gen 8)

Best overall

Our reviewer sung the praises of the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 as the best laptop she’s ever reviewed. Why? That 14-inch, OLED display is spec-freakin’-tacular. The stunning 2,800 x 1800 panel has “mouthwatering vibrancy” and a magnificent color depth that you can darn-near go swimming in. It also has a blisteringly fast SSD, loud, impactful speakers, decent battery life.

Looking for a 2-in-1 that is perfect for your content creation and digital artistic needs? Stop looking right now. The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 fits the bill. First of all, it ships with the beloved S Pen, the stylus that is one of the biggest selling points of Samsung Galaxy S-series flagship phone line. Now, you can use that stylus to take notes and draw with precision on the Galaxy Book 2 Pro’s 360 display.

It also has a sweet, vivid, 15.6-inch AMOLED, 1080p display. And to our surprise, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 lasts quite long on a charge: 12 hours! That being said, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 delivers all-day battery life — and then some.  It also outputted outstanding performance in our benchmarks, outpacing its rivals. The only downside is that we wish that the webcam could be a bit more crisp, but other than that, there’s not a single downside of the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 has a large display and a bright panel (for the price) — two features that often work against battery life. But still, against all odds, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 managed to last a whopping 13 hours and 38 minutes on a charge. That’s almost 14 hours!

Although it’s under $1,000, this 16-inch Dell laptop has a premium design (the Laptop Mag editor who reviewed it says that the dark green configuration is the most attractive) and it delivered strong performance scores. It has a decent 12th Gen Intel Core i7 chip that can juggle all of your productivity needs in a cinch.

Our review called the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook a «near-perfect» laptop. It has a mouth-watering OLED display, a brilliant detachable 2-in-1 design, and comes with a keyboard and cover. To top it all off, lasts over 13 hours on a charge. This is a 2-in-1 laptop that you can bring to work or school, sans the charger, and you should still have some juice left at the end of the day. Can we get a «hallelujah» for power efficiency? The one downside you should consider, however, is that although it is compatible with a stylus, it does not ship with one. It is sold separately.

On top of that, it ships with a stylus that our reviewer says is ultra accurate, making it perfect for content creators, artists and note takers. The Dragonfly Folio G3 also delivers a sharp, colorful display, strong performance, and a gorgeous design that features a soft, faux leather lid.

Our reviewer was stunned by the HP Spectre x360 16’s OLED touch display, which is packed with a 3840 x 2400-pixel screen. It comes with a stylish, compact design and great Bang & Olufsen-tuned speakers.

Like any other 2-in-1, it can transform into a number of different modes, including tent mode, tablet mode, and clamshell mode. However, our review noted that the Spectre x360 is a 16-inch laptop, so using it as a tablet is a bit unwieldy. Other than that, the Spectre x360 16 is a 2-in-1 with one of the best displays on the market, so if you’re ready to feast your eyes with a visual treat, don’t overlook this excellent HP convertible.

The Asus Chromebook Detachable CM3 is a 10-inch 2-in-1 that blew our mind. Big things really do come in small packages. It only weighs 1.1 pounds, but when you add that keyboard and case to the mix, it’s still quite featherweight (2 pounds). On top of that, it comes with a garaged stylus for your drawing and note taking needs.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 featured on this list is labeled the «best travel buddy» due to its perfect melange of power and compactness for frequent travelers. The Chromebook Detachable CM3, on the other hand, isn’t necessarily a powerhouse, but it’s ideal for anyone seeking something super pocketable that won’t weigh them down. Plus, it has nearly 12 hours of battery life. Sweet!

How we test the best 2-in-1 laptops

You first need to decide what type of 2-in-1 laptop is right for you. If you want a primary computing device for home and work, you should probably go with a laptop that can convert into a tablet, or what we call a bendback 2-in-1. These include the HP Spectre x360 13, Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo Yoga C940.

If you want something more portable or just need a nice display for content viewing, consider buying a tablet that converts into a tablet via a detachable keyboard. In this category are the Microsoft Surface devices and Apple’s iPad Pro. Tablets are also great for artists or designers because they typically support a stylus input and aren’t as unwieldy as convertible laptops.

Once you’ve made a choice between tablet or laptop, decide how much power you need. When it comes to specs, we recommend buying a laptop with an 11th Gen Intel U-series or H-series Core i5 CPU, at least 8GB of RAM (16GB is great) and a minimum of 256GB of storage. AMD is coming in hot with its Ryzen 5000 chips, so keep an eye out for those.

Battery life is another key component of any good 2-in-1 laptop. If you plan to take the notebook to class or the library, don’t count on there being an outlet! Consider a laptop that gets at least 9 hours of battery life, which should be enough to get you through a couple of classes with enough juice for studies.

Why Trust Laptop Mag

We put 2-in-1 laptops through extensive benchmark testing — both synthetic and real-world — before they end up in the hands of our reviewers. We evaluate each aspect of the laptop, including its performance, battery life, display, speakers and heat management.

In our benchmark testing, we use a Klein K10 colorimeter to detect the brightness and sRGB color gamut of the laptop’s display. For performance testing, we run the laptop through a gauntlet of benchmarks, including Geekbench 4.3 and 5.0 and 3DMark professional graphics tests.

To determine real-world performance, we task the laptop to convert a 4K video to 1080p resolution and to duplicate a 4.97GB multimedia file. Our real-world graphics test is the Dirt 3 benchmark with medium settings at 1080p resolution. Gaming laptops go through an entire library of games at high settings to see how their discrete GPUs keep up.

We also run heat tests by playing a 15-minute full-screen video and measuring temperatures in different areas of the laptop. Last but not least, our battery test consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. For MacBooks and premium Windows 10 (and soon Windows 11) laptops, a runtime of over 9 hours is considered a good result whereas gaming laptops and workstations that can stay powered for longer than 5 hours deserve praise.

These tests are complemented with extensive hands-on testing from our reviewers who critique everything from the laptop’s materials to the feel of its touchpad.

You don’t typically get good battery life on a laptop with a large display — more screen space means more battery drain — but the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) says “bump that.

For $1,249, you’re buying a premium chassis (please get Dark Green), packed with a bright 16-inch touchscreen display, strong performance, and a long-lasting battery. It’s not perfect — I didn’t like the keyboard and touchpad experience, and the audio wasn’t up to par. But it’s also not exorbitantly expensive.

If you want a big laptop with a big battery, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is easily one of the best laptops you can buy.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) that we tested costs $1,249, and it’s outfitted with an Intel Core i7-1260P processor, an Intel Iris Xe Graphics chip, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 16-inch, 1920 x 1200-pixel display.

If you’re working with a budget, you can pick up the cheapest model for $999, which drops you down to an Intel Core i5-1235U CPU and 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the most expensive version has a price tag of $1,549, which upgrades you to an Nvidia GeForce MX550 GPU and a 16-inch, 3840 x 2400-pixel display.

Silver and logo. This couldn’t look more boring, but it feels premium thanks to its hard, metal chassis. If you don’t want to be bogged down by the monotonous silver paint, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) also comes in a gorgeous Dark Green.

However, I do appreciate empty open space when it comes to the interior. Why? Because that means there’s more room to work — my palms need to explore. I love how the touchpad is delicately carved into the deck, leaving the side toward the keyboard open. The keyboard itself is neatly packed in between two thick speaker vents. In the top-right corner of the keyboard is a fingerprint reader that doubles as the power button.

Since it’s a 2-in-1 laptop, the display is slightly further back, but the bezels that surround it are as slim as I’d expect. The hinges are thick and sturdy, so much so that I doubted that it was going to flip at first. But it did, and it looked rather comfortable in tent mode. The lid is heavy enough to weigh onto the underside when in tablet mode, leaving little-to-no room for interruption when you’re drawing and sliding away.

At 4.6 pounds and 14.1 x 9.9 x 0.6~0.7 inches, you can’t get around the fact that the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is a big laptop, although it retains a slimness on a par with smaller laptops. The HP Spectre x360 16 (2022) weighed in at 14.1 x 9.6 x 0.7 inches and 4.1 pounds; the Asus Vivobook 16X measured 14. 1 x 9.8 x 0.8 inches and 4.1 pounds; and the Huawei MateBook 16s came in at 13.8 x 9.9 x 0.7 inches and 4.4 pounds. Dell was the heaviest and nearly the widest.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) ports

There’s a solid number of ports on board the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620).

On the left, you have the HDMI port, one USB Type-A port, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the right side holds room for one USB Type-A port, a headphone jack, and an SD card slot.

Looking for more ports? See our best USB Type-C hubs and best laptop docking stations pages.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) display

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is outclassed in a fist fight with premium laptops that cost as much as a used car, but it tries its best to be the brightest with its 16-inch, 1920 x 1200-pixel display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

I watched the trailer for Ocean Boy, and the crystal-blue sea popped on the display as dolphins hopped and skipped on their way to commit a hate crime. When the most forgettable Hemsworth talks to his son, the panel was bright enough to show off colorful sheets in the dimly lit room.

According to our colorimeter, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) covered 69.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which plummets below the 86.4% premium laptop average.

At 307 nits of brightness, the Inspiron 16 doesn’t make the 429-nit average.

We don’t have the official test results of its competitors, but let’s talk about what the Inspiron 16 does for its price. For $1,249, the Inspiron gives you a big panel brighter than more expensive gaming laptops, and just as colorful as some of the dimmest bulbs in the shop. It’s not going to match up to the $4,000 MacBook Pros, but it doesn’t need to.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) keyboard, touchpad, and touchscreen

Do you like wet sponges? That’s what it feels like to type on the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620). It’s unsatisfyingly mushy and all of the keys are too close to the deck, so it’s troubling to navigate without getting lost in the (lack of) trenches.

I typed 76 words per minute on the 10FastFingers.com typing test, which is slightly below my 78-wpm average. There were more accidental clicks than there would have been if the keys were higher.

The touchscreen was as smooth as you could ask for it to me, at least to someone that draws shoddy maps for D&D on the go. It tracked my movement well enough as I detailed each room of the dungeon I was designing.

I’m not a fan of the 3.5 x 5.3-inch touchpad. I love the design, but the clickers are so shallow they might as well not be there at all. Even web-browsing felt so unpleasant. However, the touchpad itself was appropriately smooth.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) audio

Welp, if you open this laptop up and start using it, you might notice that you don’t hear any audio. After a few minutes of fiddling, I found my way to the Waves MaxxAudio Pro audio software that Dell ships the Inspiron 16 with. It was active, naturally, but when I turned it off, voilà — sound. Raw, untuned sound. However, with its top-firing and bottom-firing speakers, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) sounded OK.

I listened to “lullaby” by Against The Current, and the opening bassy beats were a little too distant for my taste. The vocals were crisp during the chorus, but the guitar was muddled up with the percussion. Everything in between was loud and messy, but it’s not ear-splitting or too sharp.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) performance

Packing a Intel Core i7-1260P processor and 16GB of RAM, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) easily smoothed through a couple dozen Google Chrome tabs and a handful of YouTube videos without issue.

On the Geekbench 5.4 overall performance test, the Inspiron 16 scored 6,757, which flies over the premium laptop average (6,183). The Spectre’s Core i7-1260P CPU averaged 6,920; the Vivobook 16X’s Core i3-1220P processor hit 4,811; and the MateBook 16s’ Core i7-12700H chip earned 9,337.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) graphics

With an Intel Iris Xe Graphics chip, there’s not a lot going on — gaming or productivity wise.

On the Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Gathering Storm benchmark (1080p), the Inspiron managed only 19 frames per second, falling into unplayable territory and well below the premium laptop average (43 fps).

Even on the 3DMark Fire Strike synthetic benchmark test, the Inspiron 16 scored only 3,869 compared with the category average (6,692). With the same integrated graphics, the MateBook 16s still scored a higher 5,562.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) battery life

Wow — this machine lasted hours before it finally died on me. On the Laptop Mag Battery Test, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) clocked out at 13 hours and 38 minutes, sailing over the average premium laptop (10:40). We don’t have any definitive numbers on the Inspiron’s competitors, but we don’t need them to know that when it comes to battery life, the Inspiron has got you covered.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) webcam

Despite sporting a 1080p webcam, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) did a terrible job.

It couldn’t focus on the sharper features of my hair and beard. The hot pink chair behind me turned cold real quick. The contrast was too dark — I couldn’t make out any detail in the Big Boss poster behind me. Dell does include a privacy shutter; we wouldn’t want hackers to see how bad your webcam is. Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) heat

Warm, but not hot. After streaming a 15-minute HD video, the Inspiron 16’s underside reached 98 degrees Fahrenheit, which is just slightly above our 95-degree comfort threshold. The center of the keyboard and touchpad hit 95 and 80 degrees, respectively. Meanwhile, the hottest that the machine got was 110 degrees on the rear-center underside.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) software and warranty

Dell includes some proprietary software to help manage your system. You will find Dell Delivery, Dell Cinema Color, and the Dell system management app, which lets you adjust settings and optimize battery usage, the noise cancelation of the mics, and other system settings.

The Dell Inspiron 16 comes with a one-year limited warranty. See how Dell performed on our Tech Support Showdown and Best and Worst Brands ranking.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is a solid laptop. You get the performance, battery life, design, and display that you can expect from a laptop of its price point. However, the keyboard and audio could be better.

The other alternative is going for HP Spectre x360 16 (2022). You get more storage, a beefed up GPU, and a gorgeous OLED display. But I would take a step back and look at the price first —- $2,129. Yeah, ouch.

If all you want is a big laptop with a pretty display that you can touch for longer than a work day, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is right for you.

      Pros

      • Best in class performance
      • Exceptional battery life
      • Fantastic price

      Cons

      90 049

    • Tablet mode is a bit bulky

HP Envy x360 15 (2021) almost completely corresponds to its class. It’s a 2-in-1 convertible laptop that combines impressive CPU and GPU power with a sleek yet durable design, stunning screen, outstanding battery life, and incredible value.

In fact, if you don’t want to spend a fortune, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better value for money 2-in-1. Especially when you’re already getting best-in-class performance. Its huge collection of ports makes it even more profitable. If you have a few peripherals in your arsenal, you won’t find a lack of connectivity options.

However, using it as a tablet is not very convenient. Because it’s heavier and doesn’t offer the best tablet experience. However, the positives far outweigh those points for us, especially since even the most premium contenders in this ranking aren’t perfect, so it’s easy for a laptop to forgive that.

How to choose the best 2-in-1 laptop

First, you need to decide which type of 2-in-1 laptop is right for you. If you want a primary computing device for home and work, you should probably go for a laptop that can be turned into a tablet, or what we call a curved 2-in-1.

If you want something more portable or you just need a good screen for viewing content, consider buying a laptop that converts into a tablet with a detachable keyboard. Tablets are also great for artists or designers as they usually support stylus input and are not as bulky as convertible laptops.

Once you’ve made your choice between a tablet or laptop, decide how much power you need. In terms of specs, we recommend buying a laptop with an 11th Gen Intel U-series or H-series Core i5 processor, at least 8GB of RAM (16GB is great), and at least 256GB of storage. AMD is gaining momentum with their Ryzen 5000 chips, so keep an eye out for them.

Battery life is another key component of any good 2-in-1 laptop. If you’re planning on taking your laptop to class or the library, don’t count on an outlet! Consider a laptop that provides at least 9hours of battery life, which should be enough to get you through a couple of classes with enough energy to study.

    Best 2-in-1 laptops of 2023 | DGL.RU

For most people, a laptop remains the best portable device for productivity. A physical keyboard is something that tablets can’t match, however tablets are the best option for gaming or watching videos.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was one device that could do all this and more? Depending on your needs, a 2-in-1 laptop, which has become increasingly popular in recent years, could be the solution.

There are two main form factors, a tablet with a detachable keyboard and a laptop with a 360° hinge. Both allow you to type and touch the screen, and such devices currently exist for Windows, Android, iOS, and Chrome OS.

Be warned, however, that it will be difficult for you to find a device that works both as a tablet and as a laptop. Some of the options on this list are very expensive, so you can get both devices for the price of one 2-in-1. But don’t forget the convenience of having everything in one place, especially since these devices can be taken with you everywhere.

There is a wide range of models for different price ranges. In addition, below you will find detailed recommendations for choosing a 2-in-1 laptop.

    Pros:

    • Great design and display
    • Solid battery life
    • Good accessories
    • Impressive webcam

    Cons:

    • Poor performance on ARM
    • models

    • Limited number of ports
    • Keyboard cover sold separately

    Our score: + + + +

Other key strengths are video calls and battery life, and even better in the new ARM-based model. The SQ3 processor it uses is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, but it can’t compete with Intel in terms of performance and application compatibility, which is still holding it back.

The 5G feature is only available on the ARM version, but for most people it’s just not worth it. Poor quality ports and a high price tag remain regardless of which model you choose, but the Intel version still delivers the best all-around tablet.

With the addition of a keyboard cover (sold separately), it becomes a compelling laptop replacement.

    Pros:

    • Superior Performance
    • Stunning display
    • Great cameras and battery life

    Cons:

    • Expensive accessories
    • iPadOS does not fully utilize the M1 processor

    Our estimate: + + + +

The 2022 iPad Pro hasn’t changed much from the 2021 version, but it’s Apple’s closest model to replacing a laptop.

This 12.9-inch model features Apple’s latest M2 processor for enhanced performance. You will not find another tablet with the same capabilities, but the few applications that do not even come close to revealing its potential.

To get the most out of your device, you’ll have to pay extra for the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, but they provide a superior typing and navigation experience that surpasses even the Surface Pro. Also worth noting is the 120Hz display, which now comes with mini-LED technology for even better viewing.

The biggest reason not to buy an iPad Pro, however, is its software. iPadOS simply cannot compete with macOS or Windows in terms of functionality.

For such an expensive device, this is enough to make you think twice.

    Pros:

    • Great display
    • Impressive battery life
    • Slim and light design
    • Decent performance

    Cons:

    • Bad webcam
    • Weak trackpad

    Our score: + + + +

The Galaxy Book 2 360 isn’t the most powerful Samsung laptop, but it delivers superior performance in every way, including the 360° hinge.

It still excels at its core features: great 13.3-inch OLED touch screen, great performance from Intel 12th generation processors, and all-day battery life. You also get fast charging and a decent selection of ports, while still weighing just 1.16kg. With all this, it remains impressively strong and durable.

Still, not all news is good. The Book 2 360’s 720p webcam isn’t the best, and the unreliable trackpad means you’ll soon want to plug in a mouse.

But at around $111,990, this is a great convertible laptop that will serve a lot of people well. If you don’t need the functionality of a foldable laptop, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro is also worth considering.

    Pros:

    • Impressive OLED display
    • Excellent cameras
    • Keyboard case included
    • Decent i5 performance

    Cons:

    • Low battery life
    • Frustrating fingerprint sensor
    • Only one port

Huawei has been into 2-in-1 devices in the past, but the latest MateBook E is its best attempt.

The design is the same as the Surface Pro 8 and deserves a high rating given that it’s significantly more affordable. However, this entry-level model only has an 11th Gen Core i3 in its chassis. For most people, it will probably be a good idea to upgrade to the i5, which will provide solid performance in every way.

The 12.6-inch display is a bit smaller than some of the competition at just 60Hz, but opting for OLED makes up for that. Huawei has retained thin bezels around the edges of the display that house a solid webcam.

Also has an impressive webcam for video calls, but no Windows Hello face unlock. This means you’ll have to rely on an under-performing fingerprint sensor built into the power button. There is also only one USB-C port.

The included keyboard case (with built-in stand) and separately sold stylus are excellent, but battery life is another key weak point.

Perhaps too many downsides for most people, but it’s still an attractive option and very good value for money.

    Entry-level Intel Core i4 performance.

    Pros:

    • 3-in-1 functionality
    • Excellent performance
    • Excellent battery life

    Cons:

    • Expensive
    • Restricted ports

With the Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft addressed one of the key flaws in the Surface Book’s design, the need to place many components under the screen.

Ditching the detachable display in favor of a new flexible hinge design does just that, but now you’re limited to only three fixed positions. But the Laptop Studio excels as a traditional laptop, while the other two modes — push-forward or flat display — have decent options.

The high-resolution 120Hz panel itself is pleasing to the eye, and video calling functions are top notch. The keyboard and trackpad take some getting used to, but provide a comfortable experience. With great battery life and solid performance (thanks to 11th Gen Intel processors and an optional RTX 3050 Ti GPU), there’s a lot to like here.

But whether you buy a Surface Laptop Studio will most likely depend on two things: whether the design suits you and whether you can afford the high price. If you answer yes to both questions, you won’t be disappointed. But since a second-generation model is expected to arrive soon, you might be better off postponing your purchase.

    Pros:

    • AAA games on tablet
    • Excellent GPU performance XG Mobile
    • Impressive 120 Hz display

    Cons:

    • Expensive
    • Too heavy for most people
    • Low battery life

PC gaming usually requires a fixed desktop or bulky laptop, but Asus has proven that it doesn’t.

The ROG Flow Z13 offers incredible power in a thin and light package, with a choice of top-end Intel or AMD processors and a discrete RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. Performance drops slightly when running on battery power, but connecting the optional XG Mobile module helps deliver desktop-level gaming.

The large 13.4″ Mini-LED display provides an immersive gaming experience. You can choose from Full HD or 4K, with both displays delivering a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

An integrated footrest and detachable keyboard (included) make the Flow Z13 impressively versatile, although you might be disappointed by the lack of ports. It would be nice to see better speakers as well, but most gamers will plug in headphones anyway.

However, battery life is a key drawback: less than 90 minutes of play in AAA mode on a single charge. In general use, the situation is much better, but with a duration of about five hours, it is still worse than most competitors.

In the long run, the high price of the Flow Z13 will put people off. But it’s an interesting first step into the world of 2-in-1 gaming.

    Pros:

    • Decent performance
    • Excellent sound
    • Premium Internals

    Cons:

    • Reflective display
    • Intermittent faults

However, 2-in-1s aren’t just about Windows and iPads, you have plenty of options if you’re looking for a Chrome OS device. HP’s

Chromebook x360 is our top pick, combining ultra-fast performance with a great design and a great keyboard with trackpad. The Full HD display is another highlight, even if it’s not very bright, and the Bang & Olufsen speakers provide excellent sound.

Otherwise, you also get an excellent selection of ports and impressive battery life, all at a price that won’t break you.

If you can ignore low street lighting and some minor glitches, then the x360 14c might be a great option for you. Just make sure you’re comfortable with Chrome OS restrictions.

    Pros:

    • Lightweight and portable
    • High performance Intel Core i3
    • Great for video calls

    Cons:

    • Low battery life
    • Obsolete design
    • Type Cover still extra charge

    Our estimate: + + +

If you don’t have a lot of money, Surface Go 3 is a great option. It’s one of the smallest devices to run the full version of Windows 11, making the OS more portable than ever.

There aren’t many updates here compared to the Surface Go 2. In fact, the only notable change is the introduction of new processors, but the impressive performance of the Intel Core i3 processor justifies the move. However, this is likely to have a significant impact on cheaper models.

The 10.5-inch touch screen is excellent, and the video calling capabilities are very good. But the Go 3 suffers from poor battery life, and thick bezels give the impression of an old device. In addition, you will need to purchase the Type Cover separately to take full advantage of the device.

That said, if you’re looking for a solid tablet that avoids the limitations of Android and iOS, the Go 3 is a great option. Since Go 4 isn’t expected to be released before 2023, you won’t have to worry about it becoming obsolete at any moment.

    Pros:

    • Great display
    • Reliable everyday performance
    • Impressive keyboard
    • Excellent double-sided cameras

    Cons:

    • Limited port selection
    • Insufficient battery life
    • Not the fastest

    Our estimate: + + +

Dell’s regular XPS 13 is one of the most famous Windows-based laptops. The 2-in-1 version has yet to gain the same reputation, although some of its strengths make it worth considering.

These are great cameras with 11 MP on the back and 5 MP on the front, the latter combined with a dual microphone to create one of the best video calling devices. The tablet comes with a keyboard case for a comfortable typing experience, while 12th Gen Intel processors make it a reliable all-rounder.

Another highlight is the 13-inch IPS touch screen that looks great and responds well to finger input or optional XPS Stylus.

However, the XPS 13 2-in-1 still can’t handle more demanding workloads, and battery life and ports could be improved. It’s relatively thin and light, but these flaws are the main reason it’s not higher on this list. However, it’s definitely worth considering.

    Pros:

    • Excellent folding OLED screen
    • Extremely versatile
    • Excellent battery life
    • Excellent speakers

    Cons:

    • Very expensive
    • Heavy and bulky
    • Not enough ports
    • No discrete GPU

    Our score: + + +

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is a truly extraordinary device, but not yet ready for mainstream consumption. The main argument against it is the huge price tag.

But that’s to be expected from a first generation device that is only the second foldable tablet/laptop ever to hit the market. The Zenbook 17 Fold’s hinge is impressively durable, and it allows for a variety of form factors that simply aren’t possible on the other devices on this list.

You can use it as a huge 17.3-inch tablet, use the built-in palm rest, or fold it in half for unique scrolling. In addition, there is a dedicated keyboard that can replace a desktop or clip on top of half the screen to create a compelling 12.5-inch laptop.

With great battery life and superb audio, Asus is doing something very good with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. But it won’t force many to abandon the traditional laptop or 2-in-1 just yet.

    1. Do you prefer a tablet or a laptop?

In 2-in-1 devices, a compromise is inevitable. If you have work to do, the first thing to focus on is making it a great laptop. But if content consumption or online shopping matters most, choose a tablet.

Choosing the right device depends largely on what you want to do with it. Some of the devices presented in this article are capable of performing more than two main functions, so this is also worth keeping in mind.

    2. What should I consider when choosing a laptop?

A convertible laptop usually has a non-removable screen that rotates almost 360 degrees to turn it into a tablet. This style also means you can use it in other «modes» like «tent» or «display».

Lenovo’s Yoga series is arguably the best-known convertible laptop and has been the inspiration for many of its competitors. The Microsoft Surface Book is also the first laptop but still has a detachable screen so is a more advanced hybrid system. However, in 2020, Book 3 became the last member of this line. It has been replaced by the Surface Laptop Studio, which instead has three fixed positions.

    3. What should be considered in the design of the device?

A convertible tablet is similar to a regular tablet, but has either a keyboard that attaches with magnets or a case that gives the feel of a laptop. In some cases, the keyboard can connect via Bluetooth. Microsoft’s

Surface Pro and Go are the most obvious, but there are plenty of other options for Windows these days. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series is another option, but Android still isn’t great for productivity. The limitations of iOS (or iPadOS as it’s officially known) also hold back the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard, but it’s a worthy alternative.

    4. What characteristics should I pay attention to?

Most of what you need to look for in a convertible laptop/tablet is the same as in a regular laptop and tablet.

You want the best value for your money, including the latest processor, plenty of memory and storage, and a high quality screen. Be sure to read our reviews to learn more about each device, including benchmark results.
