How to Compare Processors — The Tech Edvocate

Spread the love

Processors are the heart and soul of any computer. The performance of a computer is dependent upon the processor installed in it. There are numerous processors available in the market, each promising to offer high-speed performance and multitasking capabilities. With so many options available in the market, it can be challenging to compare processors and select the best one for your needs. In this article, we will discuss the essential points to keep in mind while comparing processors.

1. Clock Speed

The clock speed is one of the critical factors that determine the performance of a processor. It is measured in GHz (Gigahertz) and indicates the number of instructions a processor can handle per second. A processor with a higher clock speed will be able to perform tasks faster. However, it is essential to note that a higher clock speed does not necessarily mean better performance. Other factors, such as the number of cores and cache size, also play a vital role.

2. Number of Cores

The number of cores a processor has is another critical factor to consider when comparing processors. Cores are like mini processors that work together to complete tasks. A dual-core processor will generally perform better than a single-core processor, and quad-core or more processors will perform even better, especially when it comes to multitasking. If you are someone who multitasks heavily or does a lot of video editing or gaming, it is recommended to go for a processor with four or more cores.

3. Cache Size

Cache is a high-speed memory that stores frequently used data for quick access. The larger the cache size, the faster the processor can access data, resulting in better performance. Typically, processors with a larger cache size will perform better than processors with a smaller cache size.

4. Integrated Graphics

Integrated graphics are suitable for basic tasks such as web browsing and video playback. If you do not plan on doing heavy-duty gaming or video editing, a processor with integrated graphics can save you a lot of money. However, if you plan on doing heavy-duty gaming or creative work, it is recommended to go for a graphics card along with a separate processor.

5. Power Consumption

The power consumption of a processor is an essential factor to consider if you are planning on using a laptop or a portable device. A processor that consumes less power will provide more battery life. Also, it is more cost-effective to go for a processor that consumes less power as it reduces the cost of cooling and electricity bills.

Conclusion

Comparing processors can be daunting, but keeping the above factors in mind can help make the process easier. Always consider your budget and your computing needs before selecting a processor. A little research can go a long way in helping you select the right processor for your needs.

CPU-Z benchmark: rating and comparison of

processors

Updated: Author: Mikhail Stroganov

The CPU-Z utility will display information about the hardware components of the PC: video card, processor, motherboard, RAM. Displays the frequency characteristics of graphics and CPU, tests the latter.

Let’s deal with the variety of benchmarks in the application. We will show you how to compare the performance of your crystal with the reference ones, send the result of the test to the cloud, see it in the global processor rating.

Benchmark rating

The CPUID site presents the CPU-Z Benchmark rating — the results of tests of central processors in 64-bit mode. It is formed on the basis of CPU test results received from users and in the developers’ own laboratories through the CPU-Z utility. Information is updated monthly.

You can compare your processor with other models at the link.

For the spring of 2021, the TOP-5 is headed by «blue» Intel.

Model, Intel Core Score
i9-10900K 584
i9-9900KS 582
i7-10700K 558
i7-9700KF 557
i9-9900KF 557

In multithreading mode, positions differ based on the number of cores.

How to compare CPU performance using CPU-Z

To evaluate performance, visit the Bench tab and click Bench CPU.

After 30 seconds, you will see an assessment of the performance of the device in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes.

How to display the position of your processor in Benchmark

To view the result in the global ranking after testing, click «Submit and Compare» — send and compare.

The button will become active after the end of the performance evaluation.

After sending, a rating will open with the position of the CPU among peers and a full summary of it.

TOP fragment.

On the validation page, click on the inscription «YOU» to view the position of your «old man».

Places are not displayed, but the 10-year crystal is in the middle of the table.

By clicking on the screenshot of the application, you will be redirected to the page with the TOP-15 models for the last year by clock frequency.

Far from the leader?

CPU-Z will test and compare processors: yours with the exemplary one. At the bottom of the «Bench» tab in the «Reference» list, select the device and run the benchmark.

If you check the box next to «Reference», you will see the difference in percentage instead of points.

Why do you need to compare CPU performance

The performance of processors is compared with different goals:

  • to evaluate the increase in speed after overclocking to show off to friends or the overclocking community.
  • Questions and answers

    Mikhail Stroganov

I have been doing software research and applied programming for over 11 years. I switched to the side of Open Source programs and I distinguish them from the rest.

    Ask a question

Describe problems using the comment form.

Is it possible to improve the performance of the processor?

Yes, by overclocking. How to do it, read the link.

If I increase the frequency by 5%, will the speed also increase by ~5%?

    No.
