Core i7 Vs. Quad Core | Small Business

So, you’re in the market for a new computer, and you’ve come up with some impressive looking specifications, particularly to do with the processor. A friend on your left tells you to get a processor with an i7 core, while a friend on your right advises you to get a quad-core. If you find yourself conflicted over which is the better unit, you can relax because they’re virtually the same thing. The question now becomes not whether quad-core is best but which quad-core is best. It helps to have a clear understanding of how a processor works.

Basic Processor Elements

  1. A computer processor is controlled by three basic units: the input/output unit, also called I/O; a control unit; and a set of arithmetic logic units, also known as ALUs. The I/O controls information going to and from the processor. The control unit takes care of the party going on inside the processor. And the ALUs do all the smart things like calculations. An ALU can process instructions very fast, but they can follow only one set of instructions at a time. It’s important to understand ALUs because they’re at the heart of multi-core processing.

Multi-Core and Multiprocessing

  1. Since ALUs can only do one thing at a time, you can improve the processing performance by adding more ALUs. If you have two ALUs on a processor, you can get twice as much done. This is known as multiprocessing. Now imagine if you had more than one processor and each processor had two ALUs. This is multi-core processing. Dual core processors can do four things at once. So naturally, quad-core means you can do four things at once. If more cores mean more processes, you may wonder why computers don’t just have a hundred of them. It’s for the same reason you don’t just run a hundred times faster than normal. You would get hot and tired. Computers get hot and tired as well. To compensate for all the extra effort, more power and cooling efficiency must be added. Some computers (especially servers) have more than four cores, but they are typically bulky, expensive and require additional technology to make them proficient. However, the evolution of technology is constant, and engineers will always find ways to improve computer performance, with or without additional cores.

Intel i7 Quad-Core Processors

  1. Intel named its quad-core series i7, and there are actually several processors to choose from. As of October 2012, the i7 Extreme models are top of the line for PCs and were designed with hardcore gaming and graphics processing in mind. The difference in the i7 Extreme versions have to do with clock speed. The higher the clock speed, the better the performance. Most of the i7 Extreme computers have four cores. However, there are a few models that have six. These models also have larger caches. If your processor isn’t listed as an i7 Extreme but just says i7, it’s likely a quad-core with slightly slower clock speed and smaller caches than the Extremes. They’re still capable processors for multimedia tasking.

AMD Quad-Core Processors

  1. AMD is the other household name for CPUs. It has a line of quad-core processors such as the AMD Phenom and the Dragon. The selection is small, but AMD puts a lot of effort into well-rounded proficiency and not just the number of cores. If you find a computer with an AMD processor, even if it’s listed as dual-core, check the rest of the system’s specifications because AMD has probably beefed up the graphics technology or software acceleration or other improvements to make performance comparable to Intel’s i7 processors.

The Intel Core i7 processor used to be one of the best mainstream processors from Intel in terms of performance and still is. Although, the i9 is now better than the Intel i7 in terms of performance. In terms of performance, it simply is one of the best in the market. The Intel i7 comes with everything that one would expect from a high performance chip. High boost clock, 8 cores, 16 threads due to Hyper Threading, high cache memory, good efficiency, etc. These are some of the things which make Intel Core i7 processors so much likable.

In terms of performance, the Intel i7 10th generation processor are by far the best Intel i7 processor. Obviously, excluding the latest Intel 11th generation. The 10th generation Comet Lake processors are significantly better than their predecessors. The Intel i7 9th generation and Intel i7 8th generation do not hold a candle to the Intel i7 10th generation. The latest Intel Core i7 processor are just so much better than the previous Intel Core i7 8th gen and Intel i7 9th generation. However, all of this comes at a price.

In terms of pricing, the Intel i7 processor price has always been on the higher side. After all, good things do not come cheap, do they? Neither do the high performance Intel i7 processor. The previous generation i7 processors, such as the Intel Core i7 8th gen, and Intel i7 9th generation processors are significantly cheaper these days. However, the new intel i7 10th generation processor price in India is definitely not cheap. The most affordable Intel Core i7 10th generation price is around 27,000 INR. At 26,000 INR, you can get the Core i7 10700F. That is the cheapest intel i7 10th generation processor price in India. But, it goes all the way to as high as around 31,000 INR.

So, depending on the model the intel i7 10th generation processor price in India can greatly vary. So, if you were wondering about the intel core i7 processor price in India, then the lowest is around 26,000 INR for the i7 10700F. And, the highest intel core i7 processor price in India is around 31,000 INR. Spending the additional money on the i7 10700K would provide you overclocking capability and an iGPU. If you can live without those, then i7 10700F is an excellent choice. However, as said before the intel i7 processor price has always been high. But, if you are after high levels of performance from your processor, then it is well worth it.

How many cores does an Intel Core i7 processor have?

Hello Everyone So the Intel Core i7 is a cool processor, because it is positioned as the most powerful processor for the home, that is, for an ordinary home computer. And it certainly is not cheap, I would even say very expensive. So how many cores are in the i7? But here everything is not so simple. For ordinary computers, as a rule, i7 is 4 cores, but since the processor supports Hyper-threading technology, there are also threads. As a result, 4 cores or 8 threads, but Windows perceives threads as cores. Although in Windows 10, in the Task Manager on the Performance > CPU tab, it seems like it says how many cores and how many threads.

That is, usually the way it is, for i7 stationary computers it is 4 cores or 8 threads. So it was four years ago and so it remains to this day. However, there are still laptop processors, there it may already be a little different, namely 2 cores or 4 threads, for example, the i7-6500U model. No, this does not mean that these are bad processors, it’s just that for these processors, the main thing is not only performance, but also minimum power consumption (TDP), after all, they are notebook ones. That’s despite the fact that the i7-6500U model is i7, but it consumes very little for a top model, namely 25 watts!

But what does the letter U mean in the name of Intel processors? This letter means the same as the letter M, that is, models with such letters are mobile processors. This means that they are not as powerful as usual and, of course, consume much less energy, this is very important for laptops.

So if you have a laptop, then look at what processor it costs and then look on the Internet for how many cores there are. But it’s best not to look for anything, but to use the CPU-Z program, it clearly shows everything and is tiny in itself. I wrote about it here, so I advise you to take a look after all

There are also models i7-5500U, i7-7500U, and there are also 2 cores or 4 threads. So here are the things. For desktop options, well, that is, for those for PC, then there seems to be no such thing. There are standard 4 cores or 8 threads.

But here I wrote about 4 cores, this is all fine, but as I mentioned, this is all STANDARD for socket 1155, 1150, even the old socket 1156 i7 also has 4 cores or 8 threads. But in laptops, in pursuit of the fact that the laptop worked for a long time without recharging and at the same time was more or less productive, then they made such sacrifices there, they removed two cores . . Well, what to do then …

Well, and the next socket, so to speak, the platform of the new era, the power of the new format, is socket 2011-3 (or its first version 2011). This socket, it’s just something, there probably won’t be processors with two cores, it seems that there aren’t even four cores (I could be wrong). 2011-3 is the power of processors with six or more cores, this is no longer a joke, the power of such processors is simply incredibly cool. So there’s definitely nothing to say here, on the 2011-3 socket or even just on 2011, i7 often runs on 6 cores, that is, running models have 6 cores or 12 threads. There are more powerful ones, but they are more expensive and not everyone can afford. Model Intel Core i7-6950X costs more than a thousand bucks, or rather almost two, well, there are 10 cores or 20 threads, it seems that such power will be enough for a lifetime …

So what do you think in the end? Well, that is, how many cores are in i7? Is it possible to answer this question in a simple way? Yes, I’ll try to do it now! So look, if you have a socket 1156, 1155, 1150, 1151, then there are 4 cores or 8 threads maximum (like so). If the socket is 2011/2011-3, then it goes from 6 cores / 12 threads and above. If the processor is mobile, then you need to look at the characteristics, as a rule, i7 is 4 cores / 8 threads or 2 cores / 4 threads. As I wrote above, if you have i7 and you need to find out all the important information about it, then I advise you to use CPU-Z, you can also try Aida64, also a good program, it shows a lot more information about hardware, not only about the processor.

So that’s how things are guys. By the way, I wrote that 2011-3 is a socket, so to speak, of a new era of performance. Well, I think so. But socket 1151, I didn’t write about it, so it’s like a continuation of what we have now, well, that is, socket 1150. 1151 will be a little more powerful, but the price is almost the same. Although, maybe in the future there will be a continuation of the 1151th socket …

By the way, there is also socket 1366 (as if outdated already), well, there is an i7-9 model there70, it has 6 cores / 12 threads, also a cool percentage! That is, the model is the same as in socket 2011-3, but of course it loses in performance.
