Case is having nice look with excellent air flow design. But the tempered glass side panel is secured with four hex key screws. Although screws are having a rubber spacer but why hex key screws instead of thumb screws. Every time one has to hunt for the hex key to open the case. And most concerned part is that the screw hole is very close to the corner of the glass and if somehow user over tightens the screw, the whole tempered glass can shatter into tiny pieces.

Finally at a price tag of Rs.8.5k(approx.) Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-OMEGA Tempered Glass Case is slight expensive in the range, but with tempered glass in side and front of the case still makes it one of the best showcased high end gaming PC case.

INTRODUCTION

When the first tempered glass PC cases made their debut roughly 3 years ago they had hefty price tags attached to them just like with most RGB gaming peripherals when they were introduced in the market shortly after. The good thing about the electronics industry in general however is that it never stays still and as a result prices tend to take serious hits as time goes by. So today consumers can find numerous affordable PC cases in the market that feature not only tempered glass side panels but also RGB lighting. CORSAIR released the Carbide Series Spec-Omega mid-tower this January and after a very positive reaction by both media and consumers all over the world they decided to take it back to the drawing board both for further tweaks and to also to swap its white LED strips and fan with RGB ones. The result is the brand new Carbide Series Spec-Omega RGB Mid-Tower Tempered Glass Gaming Case which is here with us today.

Founded in 1994, CORSAIR supplies high-performance products purchased primarily by PC gaming enthusiasts who build their own PCs or buy pre-assembled customized systems. The company’s award-winning products include DDR3 and DDR4 memory upgrades, computer cases, PC cooling products, gaming headsets, gaming keyboards, gaming mice, power supply units, USB flash drives, solid-state drives and system monitoring and control devices.

Just like the original Spec-Omega the Spec-Omega RGB is a compact mid-tower aimed towards people with space restrictions who are also looking to get something good looking for their desks. Leaving out the fact that the Spec-Omega RGB version features a PSU shroud/cover and comes ready with a front RGB strip (30 LEDs) and two HD120 120mm RGB fans instead of the front white LED strip and a single 120mm white LED fan found in its predecessor everything else remains pretty much the same (of course both feature the same tempered glass side panel). So once again we find enough room for up to ATX sized mainboards, three 2.5″ (vertical drive tray) and two 3.5″ drives (removable drive cage), six 120mm fans and/or two 240/280/360 radiators (240/360mm front and 240/280mm top), 170mm tall CPU coolers, 370mm long graphics cards and 180mm long power supply units. The new Spec-Omega RGB is also compatible with CORSAIR’s iCUE software (you can check our last look at this specific software suite here) so that means that you have the ability to manually adjust the color and modes of both the front RGB LED strip and its two HD120 RGB fans (you can also synchronize the colors and modes with other CORSAIR RGB compatible devices). Also since we never got the chance to test the original Spec-Omega RGB mid-tower CORSAIR was kind enough to send one over so we could do a side to side comparison with the new RGB version.

Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega Mid-Tower Case Review

At CES 2018 Corsair once again presented a range of updated and new products geared at expanding their product line with new and innovative ideas. While we are still in the half of 2018, Corsair has already launched several new computer cases, Obsidian 500D, Carbide 275R and the Spec-Omega. Today, we will be taking a look at the Spec-Omega (specifically the White model with part number CC-9011119-WW), a Mid-Tower ATX case, that features a Tempered Glass side panel, built-in LED lighting on the front panel, and an angular design for a unique look. The Spec-Omega is currently available for purchase with white, red or black exterior accents. The black or white versions run $89.99 with free shipping, while those looking to make a statement can pick up the red version for just $85.09 shipped.

Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega – White Overview

In addition to the previously mentioned features, the Spec-Omega also features multiple cooling options, which includes support for up to a 360mm radiator or up to six 120mm radiators; Corsair includes two SP120 fans with the Spec-Omega (one LED and one standard). Storage options include support for three 2.5in on the back side, along with two 3.5/2.5in drive trays; not to forget about the dual USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports. It will support all modern graphics cards up to 370mm in length, all inside a case that measures 495mm x 232mm x 516mm or 19.5in x 9.13in x 20.3in.

Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega – Internal Packaging

Continuing with the modern trend of keeping the packaging simple, Corsair packs their cases in a standard printed cardboard box. This keeps the printing costs down, while still being able to protect the case and provide plenty of information for a consumer if they should purchase this in a retail setting. In typical fashion, the front of the box, provides a little information; generally an overview picture of the case, and the model. For the details, you turn to the back of the box where you find an exploded view of the case. Some specifications are listed in multiple languages on the sides of the case. Of course, for detailed features and specifications, you have to go to their website. Opening the box, the case itself is packed in a plastic bag, and nestled between two large foam blocks. Interestingly the manual is taped to the foam blocks, which has a purpose.

Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega – Accessories

Corsair is known for including a well thought out accessory pack with their cases. The Spec-Omega includes six cable ties, one additional motherboard standoff, four SSD pan-head screws, sixteen motherboard, sixteen SSD flat-head screws, sixteen short fan screws, and four long fan screws. Included with the previously mentioned user manual is a standard hex-key; we’ll see shortly why this is needed and why Corsair made sure it was easily visible with the user manual.

The Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega is available in three colors, White/Black, Red/Black and Black. Other than the obvious color difference, there are two other side differences. The White model includes a White LED accent light on the front, and a White LED fan. The other two models have a Red accent light, and a Red LED fan.

Let’s take a look at what the Corsair Carbide Spec-Omega has to offer.

Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA Review ~ Computers and More

The Corsair SPEC Omega — Bling…Beauty…Boldness!

Corsair took the market by storm when it released the SPEC Alpha in 2016 mid tower gaming chassis, a design inspired by their bulldog SKUs that got such warm reception that Corsair incorporated it into the SPEC-04 last year. Sadly we never saw or heard about a successor to the SPEC-Alpha until this year where Corsair has finally brought out the Corsair Carbide SPEC Omega Gaming Cabinet out just in time for CES 2018.
Thanks to Corsair India I already have one on my table today for review and by the looks of this I’m sure we are in for some seriously interesting and fun filled building and reviewing session today.

With a tentative price of $99 the Corsair SPEC-Omega may appear like the older SPEC-Alpha at first but look closer and we can see a whole new product sitting in front of us. The SPEC Omega being a bit smaller in size than the Alpha has surprisingly more room and provision inside for installing components! Coming in three color combinations as of now namely as black-red. black-grey and the one that we have today, black-white the case has full tempered glass side panel along with a front panel which is made out of solid plexiglass. It comes with two 120mm fans one LED and on non-LED right out of the box & is backed up by the solid 5 years warranty from Corsair.

What’s in the Box!?

Corsair stuck to the usual outer packing with the SPEC Omega and we have a plain brown cardboard box with the product name, images, specifications and even a detailed diagram of the dissembled case printed in black all over the box.

The box is quite heavy for a product of this size and this is mainly due to the weight of the tempered glass used which tends to be a thick heavy slab of, well glass! Glad to see that Corsair has opted for thick blocks of styrofoam here over normal thermocol blocks that tend to break at times during rough transit risking bending of the side panels which over here would’ve resulted in catastrophic cracked glass so good move by Corsair here.

Inside the box apart from the Corsair SPEC Omega we have the installation guide, warranty manual, a hex key or allen wrench for the tempered glass screws along with a bunch of cable ties, motherboard screws, fan screws, SSD screws etc all of which can be found inside a small brown box located inside the case in the first drive caddie.

A Closer Look at the Omega!

Corsair SPEC Omega is a direct successor to the SPEC Alpha and hence we can see a similar design on the Omega aswell which is angular from almost every corner. The entire side is a big tempered glass window while the body is made out of premium quality plastic.

The other side is plain and opaque with nothing special going on and the metal sheet matches perfectly with the matte color of the plastic used in the body which is really good to see and shows the attention to minute details that have been put into the case designing here.

Front fascia of the Omega is where we find the most number of direct changes. The biggest one coming in with the partial plexiglass use which gives a direct insight to the case and in case you are using a LED fans in the front they’ll be easily visible from here giving a more refreshed look to the case. You might not be able to distinguish it but there is a LED strip tracing the division between the plastic and plexiglass area of the fascia which I’ll be coming to later on. The vent at the bottom is meshed for air intake by the front fans and we also see that the legs at the bottom are glossy this time in the Omega to gel in with the theme of the product.

All the connectivity options for the SPEC Omega are located right in the front only on a glossy panel located at the top right side. We have a white LED lit power button, mic and headphone jack, reset button, HDD activity light and two USB 3.0 ports. Even though two USB 3.0 ports are enough for most users but I was expecting atleast three if not four ports on this cabinet like this.

The top is angular, vented and is removable by loosening the two thumb screws at the back which hold this panel in place. Once removed we find provision for two 120mm/140mm fans here which can be used as intake or exhaust depending upon your preferences. Obviously you cannot install a radiator here unless you plan for some DIY. This is definitely an improvement over previous designs since this time the panel is easily removable unlike previous designs which required the removal of the front fascia to facilitate the removal of the top panel.

At the back we have a 120mm non LED SP120 fan from Corsair installed out of the box which can be swapped with a 140mm one aswell if required. At the bottom end we have seven expansion slots and the PSU installation area which supports ATX form factors and has a removable dust filter under it which slides out for easy cleaning process.

Underneath the chassis we have the PSU dust filter which is removal and another screw that is clearly protruding out and holds the drive cage in place. Its evident that Corsair wants to provide the users the flexibility to remove the drive cage here by providing screw such as this for greater flexibility and accommodation capacity.

Inside on we see that the Corsair SPEC Omega is quite clean and spacious with neat clean edges. There is a HDD cage that has a capacity of two 3.5″ HDD or two 2.5″ SSDs along with a SP120mm white LED fan is pre-installed in the front and there is provision for three 120mm or two 140mm fans in the front. There are neat markings made near the motherboard installation area for smoother and easier installation for new users for any motherboard form factor. A great feature is the raised motherboard mounting tray and the space created under the mounting tray for hiding wires.

At the back we see enough cuts and crevices for routing cables and using zip ties. There is provision to install three SSDs here using holders designed to do the same. I haven’t seem them on Corsair cases for a while since the Obsidian series so I’m happy to see them back since they make SSD installation a lot more easier. Also you may observe that the front USB 3.0 wire is flat rather than cylindrical to aid in cable management.

Time for the fun part — Installation

Before I proceed further I’d like to say that I had a very limited time with this case hence I’ve concentrated more on bringing you a more detailed review and less of fancy photographs so excuse me for the bad photography here at times.
With the Corsair SPEC Omega I observed that there has been a lot of changes not only in terms of designs but also in what all the case can accommodate so I decided to go with two different style configurations altogether. One with the Corsair h215i Pro RGB liquid cooler which is a 280mm AIO and another with the MSI Core Frozr L which is a tall Air Cooler along with three high CFM 120mm blue LED fans in front.
In general I swapped front Corsair SP120 white LED fan with the rear one
for aesthetics purposes since both have the same RPM and CFM. Cable management on this case is absolutely simple especially at the back where there is enough room to route and hide the cable even if you are using a non-modular PSU like me. The grommets are aptly cut and even in a tight space with thick hands such as mine it wasn’t much of an issue dealing with all the connections.
For the build here I went with the following components —

CPU: Intel Core i7 5930K
Motherboard: Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P
RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz
Cooler: Corsair h215i Pro RGB and MSI Core Frozr L
Graphics Card: MSI R9 380 Gaming 4G
Storage: Corsair Neutron XTi 480GB
Power Supply: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 700
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

With MSI Core Frozr L

The build looks absolutely fantastic with the beefy MSI Core Frozr L in place and I had absolutely no issue in installing the cooler or the three 120mm fans in the front. The air flow inside the case is optimum and it looks absolutely beautiful from the front where we can see the blue LEDs of the fan clearly through the plexiglass. All the three fans are visible from this angle and if you are into RGB fans then this case would make a worthy enclosure for your setup.

A point worth noticing here is that we’ve put in three thick 120mm fans here that use LED rings and rubber washers and still we have ample of space left between the fans and the HDD cage, it clearly shows that you can put in a 360mm AIO inside this case without a shadow of a doubt just like the spec sheet says so!

With Corsair h215i Pro RGB

Alright so this is where the SPEC Omega shines out bright, in the beginning I had apprehensions about installing this cooler inside the Omega not due to its massive size but its thickness since the Corsair ML140 fans on the Corsair h215i Pro RGB are quite thick and can cause obstruction with the HDD cage but none as such happened and the cooler was in place without any issue or the need of an extra pair of hands.

If we look at the clearance between the HDD cage and the radiator then its just enough for a decent air flow. Now I know why Corsair has made the HDD cage readily removable, if removed then we have enough room for a push-pull configuration on any size of coolers be it 280 or a 360! And this is with both pair of fans inside the main chassis and not one pair outside between the main frame and the plastic fascia and the other pair inside since that ways the air flow is extremely poor with this type of case with a partially vented fascia.

The tempered glass on the side is very clean and thick and I don’t see any distortion in the lighting of the LEDs in place. Its obviously a finger print magnet but that’s how glass pieces works so simply wipe it clean once everything is in place.

Since at the time of reviewing or writing this the Corsair SPEC Omega was not out officially this took me a while to figure out since I’d not received the reviewer’s guide or any sort of information regarding the case till a few days back. The case has a front LED bar which is powered by a SATA connector which is entangled with the other set of cables inside the case. Once lit its a solid white bar which looks more like a light saber in the dark! Sadly you cannot control its color or behavior but the impression of it is impeccable.

Among the other noticeable design improvements and features are the series of holes near the expansion slots to easily screw in and tighten the graphics card once installed. This is major design feature as when installing heavy and beefy cards the toughest part is to screw them in inside mid-tower and other smaller form factors. Kudos to Corsair for bringing this in the SPEC Omega!

Temperature Readings

To get the temperature readings across various components I’ve used HWMonitor and run every test twice taking the highest reading out of the two. Only on exhaust SP120 fan is used & CPU cooler is the Corsair h215i Pro RGB and its set to default settings via the BIOS just as the exhaust fan.
Reading is taken with the Intel Core i7 5930K overclocked to 4.5Ghz using excess voltage of 1.45v to generate a bit more heat than it usually would and fan curve for the MSI R9 380 Gaming 4G is set to default that is the fans would only spin after the card hits 60°C or more. CPU and Graphics Card are loaded for 15mins using the MSI Kombuster and FurMark suit respectively. Readings are in degree Celsius and readings are in delta temperature.

My Verdict

Corsair Carbide SPEC Omega is a true successor to the iconic SPEC-Alpha in every right possible. At first it may just look like an Alpha re-branded with the addition of tempered glass but in all truthfulness the SPEC Omega is an entirely different product all together.

The Omega pics up from right where the Alpha has left filling in all the gaps and joining all the loose ends both in terms of aesthetics and practicality. Throughout the review I came across a range of small changes that make up for an entirely new picture, an impressive picture to be precise. The accommodation capacity of the Omega is more than what one can expect from a mid tower chassis with support for upto 360mm AIO coolers at stock and in push pull configurations for those who are looking at an all SSD system. Corsair has made the design extremely flexible and user friendly with this to cater to a wide spectrum of users from the daily gamer to the pro modders.
While some cases out there are just about tempered glass and bling the SPEC Omega has done all of that, and more, with excellent air flow keeping even the hottest components cool under extreme loads and a packed up interiors which denotes the hardwork that Corsair designers have put into this case. Its as if there was a guy sitting in their office listening to all the customer’s feedback and requests over the years to create a perfect amalgamation of looks and functionality in form of the SPEC-Omega that would woo in system builders and modders alike.

«The Corsair SPEC-Omega has a sophisticated flare of craftsmanship due mainly to the added tempered glass panels. Building a system using this case can make the most novice builder look like a polished pro at building gaming computers»

Pros —

  • Good use of tempered glass
  • Can house a 360mm AIO cooler
  • Available in three color combinations
  • Five years warranty applicable on glass break aswell
  • Great air flow
  • Lots of fan mounts
  • Flexible design

Cons —

  • Only two USB ports in the front
  • Lack of dust filters

I give it a 8/10 earning our Gold Award!

Corsair SPEC OMEGA case

We take a look at the Corsair SPEC-OMEGA chassis, a chassis that breaks away from flat and monotonous fronts, takes internal cooling into account and features a huge, high-quality tempered glass window.

For a long time, computer chassis or towers have ceased to be simple and monotonous and a simple container for components, today they are part of the systems, they offer essential characteristics for any and many show an aggressive and different design. Corsair knows a lot about making high-quality, high-performance chassis, different from rectangular and flat towers. The Corsair SPEC-OMEGA is a clear example of this, as a gaming and aggressive chassis has been developed, which will delight the most demanding users.

Corsair SPEC OMEGA 05 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 04 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 03 box

Corsair has put years of experience on this chassis, creating the SPEC-OMEGA, a chassis with an aggressive design, which breaks with traditional configurations and has a tempered glass area on the front and on the side. Not only that, the chassis has been designed so that the components have RGB LED lighting, that is why the tempered glass and that is why different RGB LEDs have been arranged in the chassis, which are compatible with the lighting systems of most of motherboard manufacturers.

This chassis has all the necessary elements in the box, how could it be otherwise. Inside we will find our chassis, perfectly protected, an instruction manual and a quick guide, all the screws and some more, in case we lose one during assembly and even a special key to remove the screws from the tempered glass side.

Something important and that does not go unnoticed at any time, is the design of the chassis, which is very different from what we are used to, betting on very pronounced angles and an asymmetric design. Above all, the front is the most striking point, since it breaks the aesthetics of flat fronts or quite ‘simple’ design and opts for something more current.

Corsair SPEC OMEGA 06 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 08 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 07 box

We are known for being very demanding and we believe that a chassis should be more than just a chassis. This has the front panel directly on the front and not in the upper area. That it is in the upper area is not good, since the connectors can easily get dusty and damage them. The front has two USB 3.0 ports, a microphone jack input and a headphone output jack. We miss two more USB ports, even if they are USB 2.0, something that would give more possibilities, but even so, that both are USB 3.0, it adds up.

The most brutal thing about this chassis is the tempered glass side, which is of the best quality, with a slight smoky touch, which gives it a great touch. We are not facing a common chassis, we are facing a true monster. It should be noted that it is almost mandatory for a high-end chassis to have a tempered glass window, because you have to see the hardware and you have to see that our equipment has many RGB LEDs and this chassis has a lot of this, in addition, It has plenty of room for fans and of course, putting Corsair RGB fans is very tempting.

If we look at the rear of this chassis, we find that it has seven PCI expansion slots, space for a good power supply on the front, space for the rear connectors of the power supply and space for a 120mm fan. adjustable in height, since Corsair has not simply put holes, but a space, which allows us to adjust it in height.

Corsair SPEC OMEGA 09 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 11 box Corsair SPEC OMEGA 10 box

Okay, the outside is fine, but what’s on the inside? Well, inside it has been developed to install in a simple and comfortable way any component that we want (and be compatible, do not go to put an E-ATX motherboard in an ATX chassis). A simple anchoring system has also been chosen, specifically, so simple that we do not need any tools for its installation, something very interesting.

This Corsair chassis has several points that allow us to hide all the cables at the back of this chassis, so that it looks as clean as possible through the tempered glass and that the cables do not disturb in terms of air flow. The interior is also very spacious and allows you to work comfortably and install all the components without major problems. We must emphasize that this chassis is designed for ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX motherboards, so we will not have problems in this field.

Internally it supports graphics cards of 370mm in length and heatsinks for the processor with a maximum height of 170mm. Obviously it is compatible with all graphics cards and heatsinks on the market. We can also install a power supply with a maximum length of 200mm, so we will have no problems installing high-power power supplies.

Regarding capacity, this chassis has four bays for storage units, of which two are for 3.5 ”drives and two are for 2. 5” drives. The front supports three 120mm or two 140mm fans and a SP120 RGB LED is incorporated. We can install two fans at the top of 120 / 140mm and in the rear, as we have said, a 120mm. Those who love liquid cooling will be able to mount 240 / 280mm radiators on the front and on the top and even a 360mm radiator on the front.

Those looking for a striking and versatile chassis, I think they should look no further, because this Corsair SPEC-OMEGA is everything we could demand from a high quality gaming chassis. Tempered glass, aggressive design, RGB LED lighting, good connectivity and good internal distribution, makes it a suitable solution for everyone.

Results

Building with the Corsair Spec-Omega was a bit of a challenge. Since I am using a 360mm radiator, this dictated the location of the radiator and everything else had to work around this for the installation.

Below is a shot of the case after everything was installed. The white LED fan that was pre-installed needed to be moved to make room for the Corsair h250i Pro radiator.

The white LED strip that runs down the front of the case is very bright, perhaps a bit too bright. During the night if you are in a dimly lit room or turn the lights off to watch a movie on your PC, this light can be a bit distracting. I would of liked a switch added to the front panel to be able to turn this light on or off.

I wanted to get a side-shot of the tempered glass with the hardware installed, but the nature of the reflective glass made that shot impossible with the shooting conditions at my home.

Below is a cropped shot of the top of the case where I moved the pre-installed front 120mm white LED fan. I decided to make this an intake fan, rather than exhaust, to help with some airflow over the VRM section of the motherboard.

As you can see, the mounts are fairly versatile so you have some wiggle room when installing 120mm or 140mm fans. Corsair states that you can fit a 240mm radiator in the top of this case, but doing so with certain boards and RAM might have interference issues. There simply isn’t much room above the motherboard and any radiator and fan combination is going to sit below the top level of your motherboard, and tall VRM heat sinks will undoubtedly cause issues if you mount a radiator in the top of this case.

I wanted to highlight the installation of the EVGA PSU, as it was quite the squeeze. Corsair states that the Spec-Omega can accommodate up to 190mm length of a PSU, and I think that is a bit optimistic considering the EVGA PSU is 180mm in length and the wires barely have any room to breathe.

As it was, I had to remove the HDD drive bay to get the PSU into position, then reinstall the HDD bay. Granted the drive bay can be moved more toward the front of the case, but with the radiator installed, the bay could not be moved.

Also note that if you do not have a 3.5″ HDD you can simply remove this bay all-together and install SSDs on the SSD caddy on the back-side of the case. This would free up a lot of space and help with cable management.

Up in front you can see the radiator takes up all of the space in the Spec-Omega. It appears you could mount fans on the front for a ‘push’ configuration, but I left the radiator in a ‘pull’ set-up based on the h250i Pros manual recommendation.

I had limited time with the case, so I couldn’t test moving the fans from the inside of the case to the front of the panel. This would be ideal to ease some of the space inside the case and allow the HDD drive bay to be moved closer to the front of the chassis for better clearance of the EVGA PSU.

Because of the front panel design the radiator has constricted airflow and is evident by the coolant in the radiator heating up even while the PC is idle. Instead of the clear glass on the front panel, Corsair should have installed a black mesh grill,(again I reference the Spec-Alpha here) as they did with the top case panel.

The PC is fairly quiet when first turned on, but the front radiator fans start to slowly spool up as the coolant temps start to rise from lack of airflow. There isn’t any issues with the included 120mm fans. They are well behaved with them set to 1,000 RPM via BIOS controls and are relatively quiet at that RPM.

I did not test the included fans at full RPM, as I’m sure the fans will do what all fans do, push more air and get much louder. Corsair didn’t include the specs of the fans, but I can guess that max RPM would be in the 1400 to 1600 range based on my 60% power setting to get them to 1K RPM.

Oh boy, my least favorite part of building, cable management. The Spec-Omega has plenty of tie-down points, but the spacing is limited to roughly a half-inch of space between the motherboard tray and side panel door.

As you can see, I tried to keep wires and cables from overlapping to some extent. I do not pretend to be good with cable management so this may not be as big of a deal to others. I can recommend however, that if you do use this case, PSUs with longer cables are going to be a bit rough to manage, and I would say flat cables would be the way to go with the Spec-Omega for the best cable management results.

The thickness of the 24 pin power cable alone presses against the side panel door when closed. There isn’t much recourse to fix this, as the cable has only so much room between the drive bay and PSU. I even uninstalled the SSD caddy to make room for cable management.

From the looks of the case with all the panels on, you think this case is a lot bigger than it actually is. The inside of the chassis is quite short from front to rear since optical drive bay compatibility is not included with this set-up.

At least the cabling inside this area doesn’t look too bad. It’s fairly clean despite how cramped everything looks in the case.

A note about clearance: Corsair specifies GPU clearance up to 370mm, and CPU cooler clearance of 165mm. Of course the PSU clearance is 190mm, but as I mentioned before this is a bit dubious. Just keep in mind without the radiator in the front, the HDD drive tray can be moved closer to the front of the chassis and give more room for PSU clearance.

Next page we come to my final thoughts and conclusions.

Case Overview Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-Omega RGB

Specifications

We’ve been familiar with Corsair’s SPEC series cases many times. Note that this is the youngest series of cases in the manufacturer’s assortment. If in the standard “numbered” line of SPEC cases each subsequent model is a slightly improved previous one, then in the “Greek” line there are two cases, Alpha and Omega, which are even a little similar on the outside due to similar design elements. But in practice, the cases are very different. Judging by the name, SPEC-Omega is a kind of maximum in the SPEC series, i.e. a kind of flagship in the most accessible series.

We received a case in black and white design, even in nature there are black and black and red versions. Perhaps the list will be expanded. In addition, there are variants of this case without RGB lighting.

The black and white version looks very good: classic colors spilled over the asymmetrical body shapes. To a place here and transparent elements. Although the case looks unusual, it is quite interesting, it is difficult to call it clumsy, at least in black and white colors.

Arrangement

The Corsair SPEC-Omega RGB is a mid-sized tower solution with a vertically stacked ATX (or smaller) board and a bottom horizontal power supply.

A collapsible plastic partition is installed in the case, which performs the usual role of the power supply housing. It covers the entire lower part of the case from the side of the transparent wall, giving the interior of the case neatness and completeness. This is precisely its main function — to hide everything unnecessary. The execution of the partition is not the most outstanding, but from the outside everything looks more than decent.

In this case, the developers abandoned the 5.25″ device bays, and the usual 3.5″ device bay is located under the PSU cover near the front wall of the chassis, but it is present in a truncated form: only two disks. The compartment is removable, it is fixed with three thumbscrews, it can also be removed or rearranged closer to the front panel.

There are no external drive bays in the chassis. Three 2.5″ drives are placed behind the motherboard base.

Lighting system

The case is equipped with a Corsair iCue software-controlled lighting system. It consists of:

  • Backlight controller
  • Hub for lighting six fans
  • 2 illuminated fans
  • LED strip integrated in front panel

The iCue replaces the Cue (Corsair Utility Engine) that has been used in Corsair’s peripherals since 2015 for lighting control. Now iCue with the help of a separate controller can control the backlight of the case. The iCue software package manages all illuminated devices that it detects in the system, and it also synchronizes their operation.

The case uses two devices to control the backlight: the main controller connected to the internal USB ports with the included Mini-USB cable with output to the internal ports of the motherboard, and there is also a fan hub that connects to the main controller. Fans must be connected to it in series, starting from the first connector.

It is not very convenient that two devices are used for control, since in this version more space is consumed in the case, where there is already little of it.

To control the illumination of the case, you need to download the iCue software from the official Corsair website and install it yourself. After starting, you need to make the initial setup, which in our case consisted in specifying the type of equipment connected to the second channel of the controller (the first channel had an LED strip, it was not necessary to specify it). The second channel had a hub with two fans, which we indicated by selecting the “LL fans” item in the drop-down menu.

Next, you need to select the mode of operation of each channel, they can work independently.

We found an interesting mode: indication of the temperature of PC components by changing the color of the backlight. Since the channels can work independently, you can monitor two values at once: then the LED strip in the front panel acts as an indicator of one temperature, and the color of the fan glow acts as an indicator of the second. The function works quite well, but when setting up, you must first adjust the first backlight channel, and then the second, because otherwise all the settings of the second channel are copied from the settings of the first channel.

Thus, in this case, the lighting system is not only a decoration, but also an indicator that can be used for applied tasks.

Cooling System

This chassis has a total of six fan slots and three heat sinks.

Front Top Rear Right Left
Fan mountings 3×120/2×140 mm 2×120/2×140 mm 1×120 mm no no
Installed fans 1×120 mm no 1×120 mm no no
Seats for radiators 120/140/240/280/360 mm 120/240 mm 120 mm no no

There are two 120 mm approx. 2000 RPM fans pre-installed in the chassis, one in the front and one in the rear. The fans have RGB lighting and are connected by two connectors: a standard four-pin (PWM) connector to the system board to power the drive and a proprietary four-pin connector to the hub for power and lighting control.

It should be noted that the places for installing fans on the front, top and rear panels are not clearly fixed, they can be shifted vertically by 3-5 cm, thereby adjusting to the features of the CPU and GPU cooling system. This is achieved due to the fact that the holes for the screws are not round, but in the form of slots of considerable length.

If you want to install a radiator on the top wall, then only models with 120 mm fans are supported.

The filtration system in the housing is very peculiar. Actually, the filter is only on the bottom wall of the chassis. It is made of fine synthetic mesh, which is enclosed in a plastic frame. It can be considered quick-detachable, since it does not require any additional steps to remove it.

At the front, the role of the filter is performed by the metal grille of the front panel, which can only be removed together with the panel itself. But since there are electrical connections on the front panel, as well as elements of electrical circuits, it is better to discard the option with washing under running water right away. If desired, you can clean it from the outside with a vacuum cleaner. True, the grille itself is quite large and dust will not be retained very well.

From above, the role of the filter is performed by a completely similar metal grill, which can only be removed together with the panel. But since there are no controls and switching elements on the top panel, the easiest way to clean it is to rinse it under running water — of course, followed by drying. However, it can also be cleaned from the outside with a vacuum cleaner. The grille itself is quite large and will not retain dust very well, but it will protect various objects from getting inside the case.

Design

As you can see, the left side panel, when viewed from the front panel, is made of tempered glass. Its fastening is of an overhead type, with fixation through four through holes on the front side using four screws with a semicircular head and an internal hexagon. To Corsair’s credit, the key is also included. On the inside, the screws have an overlay made of rubber-like material.

Bushings are installed inside the holes in the glass panel, but their design is not very good: they sometimes fall out during dismantling.

Screws are screwed into the posts, which have a reduced length, which seems to increase ease of assembly. However, in reality this does not happen, since it has become more difficult to dock the hole on the panel and in the rack.

The top and front panels have a similar design, they consist of several parts: the main part is black (painted in bulk), to which a white plastic overlay is fixed with latches (the outer part is painted separately), and all this is closed by a steel mesh , which is bent in the right places to fix it on the main part.

In the case of the front panel, this is complemented by an LED strip that is installed under the white trim, as well as a translucent plastic light guide that is located between the white trim and the black base. There is also a glass insert.

The legs of the case extend far beyond the chassis, which may not always be convenient. They have rubber pads.

Assembly of the system unit

In the case of the simplest assembly, two side panels must be removed: the right side (by unscrewing two thumb screws) and the left side (by unscrewing four hex socket screws).

If you plan to modify the cooling system, you will also have to remove the top and front panels. And if there are no special problems with the first one — you need to unscrew the two thumbscrews on the rear panel and simply remove the top cover, then everything is much more interesting with the front panel.

It should be noted right away that the process of dismantling the front panel is not illustrated in any way in the attached brochure with assembly instructions. The front panel is fixed with eight plate-type latches, which must be pressed by hand, and preferably at the same time. You should not use a screwdriver, since there is a non-zero probability of breaking these latches, and they are located in such a way that it’s not very convenient to reach there even with your fingers, and even more so with some kind of tool. It is also advisable to use specially prepared fingers, since the efforts required to be made are quite tangible.

But that’s not all… Under the front panel there is a connector where the LED strip located inside the front panel is connected, so you have to be careful here too.

The next assembly step is to install the power supply and drives into the 3.5″ basket.

To do this, remove the plastic partition, which consists of two parts. Formally, the disks can be installed without removing it, but later it will be clear why it is better to do it this way. But it is not possible to put the PSU in a different way, this is not provided for by the chassis design.

Each of the two baffle pieces is secured with one thumb screw to the back of the system board base. Partitions are held thanks to a system of grooves and ridges. If it is still quite convenient to remove this design, then putting it back on is already somewhat tiring, since you need to get the combs into the holes on two planes: on the base for the motherboard and on the bottom of the case. And part of the casing above the PSU is also fixed with a latch on the rear panel.

By the way, no mention of the partition and its dismantling was found in the attached instructions. In the instructions, the case is shown without a partition at all.

There is not much room in the case, so it is better not to use power supplies longer than 180 mm. Our PSU from the test assembly with a length of 170 mm fit, but there was catastrophically little space for laying wires, even taking into account the fact that all the extra wires were disconnected from it. It should be noted that the PSU seat has a vibration decoupling in the form of four strips of rubber-like material glued to the bottom of the case.

If the plans do not include a heatsink in front, and 3.5″ drives will still be installed, then it is better to rearrange the basket closer to the front panel (there is another set of holes in the case), which will free up space for the PSU and wires, as well as improve the airflow of the drive basket with the front fan.

Full-size hard drives are installed in a double-seat basket designed for them through plastic frames. The disk is attached to them using four pins, but it is possible to use one more screw on each side. The frames are fixed with a simple snap, the fastening reliability is quite high. Note that these frames are universal, they can be used to install 2.5″ drives with drives mounted through the bottom.

After that, you can put the baffle back on and proceed with the installation of the motherboard, since no problems were found here. All racks for mounting the system board are pre-installed by the manufacturer.

A CPU cooler up to 160 mm high can be installed in the case: the distance from the motherboard base to the opposite wall is about 175 mm. The depth of the cable routing compartment is about 15 mm at the rear wall, so the case is not the most spacious. For mounting wires, loops are provided for fastening screeds or other similar products.

There are three slots for 2.5″ drives in the bay located on the back of the system board base. The drive is fixed by pressing it with a plastic element. Everything here is very reliable. The bay itself is removable, secured with two thumbscrews, and held in place by a hook on the bay that fits into a hole in the motherboard base. There is no special need to remove the drive bay, but there may well be problems with the wires from the power supply unit, since the drives are located not in a stack or column, but in a line (nearby). And with such an arrangement in a very small space, it will not be very convenient to bring wires with connectors.

We connect the backlight controller and its hub with two SATA Power connectors, since they are connected to power separately. And do not forget to connect the fans to the motherboard.

Ports and connectors are connected quite standardly: backlight controller, USB 3.0 and audio — with monolithic multi-pin connectors, everything else — with single-pin connectors.

Actually, the main drawback of Corsair SPEC Omega RGB, like many modern cases, is the need to manipulate the case from both sides when assembling the system, so it has to be turned over several times, and this is not always convenient and requires free space, effort and time.

The presence of the shroud makes it difficult to access the power supply for cleaning and controlling the operation of the fan, and also complicates the connection of additional wires if they are removable.

It is not very convenient to assemble the system in this case, therefore, for those who like to regularly and often dive into the depths of their iron friend, this option is not the most suitable.

Handprints on the glass surfaces are clearly visible, so it is better to carry out all manipulations with the case with gloves on.

Acoustic ergonomics

The noise level of the cooling system varies from 21.3 to 41 dBA when the microphone is placed in the near field. When the PWM duty cycle is less than 40%, the noise of the housing cooling system is at a low level, and at short circuit = 60% … 80%, the noise is average for a residential area in the daytime.

If the case is further away from the user and placed, for example, on the floor under a table, the noise can be characterized as minimally noticeable at a PWM duty factor of less than 40%, and at a PWM duty factor of more than 80 percent — as average for a residential area in daytime.

The cooling system in this case is implemented quite successfully, since if necessary, you can achieve a minimum noise level, but you can achieve a fairly high performance, although, of course, not at the same time.

Results

It’s hard to argue that the Corsair SPEC-Omega has an interesting design, especially if we mean not only the exterior design of the case, but also its lighting system, which is a significant part of the appearance of this model. A software-controlled backlight controller also adds to the interest. However, this case still represents one big compromise, since, on the one hand, it has at least a peculiar design with a glass wall, software-controlled backlighting and relatively low cost, and on the other hand, a very budget chassis, far from the highest convenience. during assembly, small internal dimensions and some other features.

Thus, in Corsair SPEC-Omega, a mid-level gaming system unit with an air cooling system or just a general-purpose system with visual effects will really look quite worthy, however, for those who like to install many different large-sized components and periodically change them, this model according to the above reasons are unlikely. A developed disk subsystem cannot be assembled here either: although five drives can be installed in the case, only two places allow you to install full-size hard drives (which, however, are easily accessible and well cooled).

Therefore, the case can be called a solution with an original shell, but budget internals, although in the SPEC series this is probably the best case we have ever seen.

This model wins our editorial award for the current month for its original software-controlled lighting system.

Case Review Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA

It’s always a pleasure to deal with a quality product, especially if it’s a computer case. Such a device should not only please the owner’s eye, but also help in assembling the system inside (you must admit that cramped boxes can spoil the impressions of a ready-made PC before the start). The Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA is a perfect case in every way. And that’s why.

Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA with an asymmetrical geometric design is not like a dull gray box.

First of all, this body is made of durable steel, and the side window is not made of acrylic (as is the case in budget models), but of tempered glass. As a result, Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA looks very monolithic and impressive. It is quite heavy (7.5 kg), powerful legs at the base with rubberized inserts are divorced here for a reason.

Secondly, functionality. All side panels and plastic frames can be dismantled, as a result, the user will have at his disposal a solid space of the correct form, which can be filled with the most top-end components and CBOs. Inside, there are enough seats for both fans and efficient heatsinks of various form factors.

The Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA is supposed to be equipped with illuminated propellers (in the reviewed modification, only one fan is nominally equipped with lamps). And it’s not for nothing that the brand’s assortment includes exactly the same case called RGB (numerous ventilation holes and a side window are separated here for a reason).

Exterior Features

Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA with its asymmetric geometric design does not look like a dull gray box. This case is designed for gamers and users for whom the phrase computer case is not an empty phrase.

Not only is the side panel made of tempered glass (it is fixed with four nice figured screws; a hexagon for removing them is included), but also part of the front.

For 100 euros, the user receives a monumental case for assembling a PC of any profile.

In addition to communication connectors (USB and audio), it also has a ventilation line through which fresh air enters the case and bright light from the lamps seeps through.

We highly recommend purchasing a pair of 120mm propellers yourself and mounting them to the existing fan on the front panel; It will turn out not only effectively, but also very beautifully.

By the way, instead of fans, you can install a radiator for a water cooling system on the front panel, for the same purpose there is free space in the upper plane (as you like).

Test bench:

Processor — Intel Core i5-8400
Motherboard — ASUS ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC)

Drive — Kingston A400 120 GB
Power Supply — Cougar GX-F 550

Internal features

take off. The manufacturer claims that this Mid-Tower case will fit any ATX, MicroATX and Mini-ITX form factor motherboard, but we think the available space is enough for E-ATX solutions.

Fans of multi-graphic bundles will like this case, two powerful adapters in Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA will not be cramped.

The power supply is attached to the bottom of the case, there are no steel protective covers here (only a replaceable filter at the base). But next to the PSU lives a hard drive cage, which, in theory, can interfere with the installation of the overall power supply . But this is not a problem, the indicated basket can be easily dismantled (it is fixed with a couple of screws).

Hard drives and 2.5″ SSDs are fixed on the back of the mounting base for the motherboard, and 3.5″ hard drives, as mentioned, are placed in a profile basket in the main part of the case being monitored.

Perhaps the most important feature of the Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA is its structured interior; there are many through holes (some of them with silicone clamps) for competent laying of all kinds of cables.

This approach contributes not only to a convenient system assembly process, but also to proper air circulation. These parameters are sometimes more important than the aesthetic features of the device.

Conclusion

The Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA is a cool case, to be sure. For 100 euros, the user receives a monumental case for assembling a PC of any profile.

A powerful liquid or air cooling system, a multi-graphics bundle consisting of several adapters, a large motherboard and a high-performance power supply — everything fits here.

New from Corsair is not only extremely functional, but also devilishly beautiful. Before us is a modern building, designed with intelligence and care. Recommended.
