1. Check the temperature of all components.
1.1 GPU temperature can be checked by MSI Afterburner
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm
or GPU-Z
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
Temperatures above 90 degrees under load indicate the presence of problems with cooling!
1.2 CPU temperature can be checked Aida64
http://www.aida64.com/
HWmonitor
http://www. cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Tip: Do not run multiple monitoring programs at the same time, errors may occur.
2. Check that the power supply matches your computer configuration.
The power supply is very important for the stable operation of the PC, an approximate calculation of power consumption can be done here. http://ru.msi.com/power-supply-calculator/
Keep in mind that over time, power supplies can degrade and produce much less power than stated on the label.
As a rule, voltage drops are to blame for the instability of the PC, it makes no sense to measure the voltage programmatically, we take a multimeter in our hands and check the compliance of the voltages with the load turned on. ATTENTION! Never disassemble the POWER SUPPLY included in the mains! DANGEROUS!
3. Check the RAM for errors.
You can check it with a regular Windows 9 RAM diagnostic tool0005 or Memtest.
If you have «overclocking memory» it makes sense to check in what mode it works, if XMP mode is set in the BIOS, then change it to SPD mode and test the memory again. Be sure to conduct a memory test if the system has several memory sticks from different manufacturers and different sizes installed! Check the timings and operating voltage on the bars! (voltage and timings are usually written on the nameplate of the RAM)
4. If your system is installed on an SSD drive, and especially if it is on a SandForce controller, be sure to reinstall the system on another hard drive and test. Also check the integrity and connection of all loops.
5. If you have an SLI/Crossfire configuration on your system.
5.1 For AMD, if errors occur, you can try to disable the low power mode (ULPS), you can do this in MSI Afterburner on the «Basic» tab video cards. In single mode, such a video card can work stably, but not in a paired configuration.
5.3 In some cases, to ensure stable operation, you need to increase the voltage on the GPU core (at your own risk) Information on safe values \u200b\u200bcan be found on the Internet, specifically for your video card.
6. Conflicts and errors.
6.1 Pay attention to what Windows tells you.
Write down error codes, it’s much easier to understand what the problem is.
I personally had an error with which I struggled for six months, it consisted in freezing the computer 10-15 minutes after entering the game, then there was a DirectX error, a crash to the desktop, the whole system fading and eating but a manual reset, just reboot.
After the reboot, everything returned to normal, it was possible to play 24/7.
It turned out that the systems did not like my IEEE 139 controller4.
After starting the system and entering the game, for some reason she tried to fix something with it at the driver level))) Disabled it manually, the problem was gone.

I have 2 memory slots, one is 2GB and the other is 4GB, can this cause the game to crash or blue screen?

Very possible. Check with another RAM.
Or at least check the one available for errors, check as described above.
Be sure to check the timings as set.
They can be different for two planks. Hence the error.
Check where the brackets are installed, if there are 4 slots on the motherboard, then they should usually be installed in slots 1-3 or 2-4, i.e. in memory bank A and B according to the bracket, if bios allows, then you can try to separate the timings for each memory bank separately, in case the memory is different.

Mega thanks for the effective solution mileyhappy:
Overclocking a video card using the program
If the game slows down, then it is not necessary to postpone it until a better moment until you buy a more powerful video card, because you can try to overclock the existing one. Overclocking a video card, as a rule, comes down to increasing the operating frequencies of the core and memory. This can be done in various ways. Some motherboards provide the ability to overclock video cards from the BIOS environment, but a more convenient way today is software overclocking. There are a large number of utilities for this, however, from my point of view, the most attractive, especially for novice users, is the simple MSI Afterburner program.
MSI Afterburner is a free utility and supports all manufacturers of graphics cards based on AMD and Nvidia chipsets. Distinctive features of the program are ease of use, safe overclocking and real-time monitoring of the state of the video card. Some video cards do not have a potential headroom for overclocking, in which case MSI Afterburner will show the frequencies set to the maximum and not be able to exceed them.
But first of all, I consider it necessary to identify some factors that must be considered before deciding whether to overclock a video card:
— It makes no sense to overclock built-in or budget low-performance video cards, because you will not get much performance gain from them, and programs like MSI Afterburner will not work, for example, with built-in ones at all.
— If the card is not equipped with at least a simple internal cooling, then after overclocking, the risk of its rapid failure increases as a result of constant work at maximum frequencies, as a result — overheating.
— It makes no sense to overclock the video card if you have an insufficiently powerful processor and a small amount of RAM.
— Perhaps the reason for the slowdowns is not that you have a weak video card, processor or little RAM, it may turn out that you have outdated or incorrectly installed drivers. Or perhaps the performance has dropped simply because of the many programs simultaneously running in the background.
Well, now we can proceed to the description of the overclocking process itself.
Attention. Despite the fact that the described methods for overclocking a video card using the MSI Afterburner program are the safest, you carry out all actions at your own peril and risk.
Download the latest version of MSI Afterburner from the official website using this link:
http://event. msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm
The installation process is standard, so we won’t dwell on it, but immediately Let’s move on to the program.
The working window consists of two parts (areas)
On the left, the video card settings are adjusted, and on the right, its status monitoring (temperature, GPU load, fan speed, core frequency) is displayed, which is very convenient because all the changes made can be monitored visually on graphs.
In order to overclock the video card, we need only two parameters: «Core Clock» (video core frequency) and «Memory Clock» (memory frequency).
But remember, the key to overclocking is gradualness. Therefore, you should not rush to set the frequencies immediately to the maximum values. For Nvidia video cards, let one step be in the region of 50-100 Mhz, and for ATI — 20-50 Mhz. After each upgrade, press the «Apply» button and test the new settings on a modern, resource-intensive game by playing for at least half an hour (preferably an hour or two).
