Fclga1150 socket: FCLGA1150 Socket list — Cpu Specs Benchmarks reviews cpu upgrade

LGA 1150 vs. 1151: Infamous CPU Socket Debate

When building a gaming PC, most of us prioritize performance by looking at each individual component and trying to get the most out of it. In most cases, the majority of your budget should be aimed towards getting the highest-quality GPU you can afford.

But future-proofing your PC isn’t as easy as buying the highest-rated parts online and slapping them all together. Not all parts are compatible with one another, so you need to do careful research to make sure your dream rig will even work.

Many gamers run into problems when it comes to selecting motherboard sockets and chipsets. What are sockets and chipsets, anyway? What’s the difference between an LGA 1150 and an 1151 socket? If you don’t know, there’s a good chance you could end up with a CPU that doesn’t physically fit into the motherboard.

In this guide, we’ll help you avoid this problem and others like it by walking you through the process of identifying and selecting compatible PC parts.

Why Do Sockets Matter?

The motherboard is the component around which we build our PCs, and it is the crucial element that determines the compatibility of future upgrades. Thus, it’s critical to get the best gaming motherboard we can.

The development and evolution of components inevitably change the types of connections they use, sometimes leaving our computers obsolete and un-upgradeable.

Such is the case with CPU sockets.

Aside from clock speed and number of cores, the type of socket that a CPU uses is an essential characteristic. The socket type tells us the generation of the CPU, but it also determines what other components it will be compatible with.

LGA (land grid array) sockets are the current CPU standard. Old-fashioned sockets used holes that the chip plugged into. LGA sockets have many tiny receptors for the many tiny pins on the CPU chip. Those pins are individual connections between the motherboard and the chip. Some of the different types of sockets are T, H, h2, h3, h4, and h5.

LGA 1150 CPU Socket Compatibility

This type of socket, also known as the h4 socket, is the successor of the LGA 1155 h3 socket. LGA 1150 sockets are compatible with all of the latest Intel processors, and they can also support Haswell and Broadwell processors. They carry the 1150 number due to having 1150 pins for the contact between the motherboard and the processor.

Motherboards with this socket support HDMI, VGA, and DVI connections. The CPU cooling is compatible with older LGA 1155 and 1156 sockets. It is compatible with the DDR3 RAM. The chipset for this type of socket is called Lynx Point.

LGA 1151 CPU Socket Compatibility

LGA 1151, known as the h5 socket, is currently the freshest socket, developed in 2015 to replace the LGA 1150. The first generation of this socket supported Intel’s Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs, while the second generation supports the Coffe Lake CPU. This type of socket supports the following chipsets:  h210, B150, Q150, h270, Q170, and Z170.

The points for heatsink attachment are the same 4 points in a square with a 75 mm lateral length. Therefore it allows the use of the same cooling fans as older LGA 1150 and 1155 chips. These motherboards carry DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI connections. While older generations supported only DDR4 memory, newer ones are compatible with DDR3 RAM, too.

LGA 1150 vs. 1151: Comparison

The first point is obvious. The new LGA 1151 socket will be the standard for some time into the future. LGA 1150 sockets won’t support CPU upgrades for much longer. Therefore, a PC with an h4 socket will soon become obsolete. If you get the best gaming CPU in 2021, you probably won’t be able to mount it on an LGA 1150 socket.

All USB connections on a motherboard with an h5 socket are 3.0. On the other hand, h4 has some 3.0 USB ports, while others are 2.0 USB ports. A motherboard with an h5 socket has DisplayPort video connections, but doesn’t include VGA connections. The high-res gaming monitors of today don’t utilize VGA; it is considered to be an old and outdated port.

Thus, we can conclude that LGA 1151 motherboards have better, future-proof connectors.

LGA 1150 sockets support only DDR3 RAM memory, while LGA 1151 sockets support either DDR4 only or both DDR3 and DDR4 RAM sticks. This will depend on the model of the LGA 1151 motherboard, and you will have to check to be sure. Also, it is very important to understand that this motherboard will only support one type of memory at a time.

Intel rated its DDR3 motherboards for lower voltage, meaning that higher voltages could damage the CPU. However, other manufacturers such as Gigabyte and ASUS rated their motherboards for higher voltages, and there should be no danger in most cases.

In the end, LGA 1151 once again shows better compatibility and is more future-oriented.

LGA 1151 Downsides

One of the major downsides of the LGA 1151 socket is that it doesn’t allow overclocking. Previous models of h4 sockets allowed for CPU, GPU and RAM overclocking, but most LGA 1151 motherboards don’t. The first generation of these motherboards allowed limited CPU and RAM overclocking, but Kaby Lake models did not, except for Z270 chipsets.

The second generation of these motherboards does not allow overclocking except for Z370 and Z390 chipsets. Therefore, you should plan ahead. Knowing that you cannot rely on overclocking, you must get better components for good performance.

Final Words

Obviously, LGA 1151 and LGA 1150 are not within the same generation and the same category. Motherboards with LGA 1151 sockets support newer CPUs and faster connections with other peripherals, making them better than their predecessors performance-wise. If you’re running an older LGA 1150 motherboard, enjoy it while it lasts, but plan on shelling out more cash to catch up when it finally gives out.

Intel LGA1150/1/5/6 Quiet CPU Coolers

Please note: All coolers compatible with LGA1151 will also fit LGA1200, as their mounting holes are the same.

LGA1151 is Intel’s newest mainstream socket which replaced LGA1150. Compatible CPUs include Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. The “Core i7” brand is used to refer to LGA1155/6, LGA1136 or LGA2011 processors so make sure you know which socket type your motherboard has before buying a CPU cooler. If you are wondering what the difference is between LGA1151, LGA1150, LGA1155 and LGA1156, then from a cooler point of view, the answer is nothing. The sockets are mechanically identical so if a cooler will fit LGA1150 then it will also fit LGA1151, LGA1150, LGA1155 and LGA1156, or vice-versa.

As always, if you are still unsure which CPU cooler is right for you, please read our article “How do I choose a CPU cooler?” and remember to check the TDP, (i.e. its maximum heat output measured in watts) of your CPU to aid identifying a suitable cooler.

The table below provides information about each cooler to help you quickly identify the most suitable product for your needs. Each column can be sorted, making it easy to determine a cooler of a certain height or a specific noise level. Please note, AIO water coolers are not shown on this table due to their unique characteristics.

Intel’s LGA CPU Sockets Explained

Computers have used socketed processors for most of the PC’s lifespan, with a few notable exceptions like Intel’s cartridge-based Pentium II and III aside. These sockets change every few processor generations to cater to new chip pin layouts and to take advantage of the new enhancements in performance and features. Each of the two major processor makers, AMD and Intel, has its own type of socket. For Intel, it’s land grid array (LGA) CPU sockets.

Contents

  • The skinny on sockets
  • LGA 1200
  • LGA 2066
  • LGA 3647
  • LGA 1151
  • LGA 1150
  • LGA 1155
  • LGA 2011
  • Other sockets to note

Intel has continually updated its LGA socket over the years, adding more pins and different designs to expand functionality. Here’s everything you need to know about Intel’s LGA CPU sockets.

The skinny on sockets

The socket is the physical interface a processor connects to. In the case of an LGA socket, it consists of a series of pins that correspond to flat connectors on the bottom of the processor. When new processors require a different array of pins due to their design or improved functionality, a new socket is born. Since Intel is a primary creator of processors, the sockets the company designs are particularly important, so knowing the LGA that your new hardware is compatible with is important. If you’re curious, the other big manufacturer, AMD, uses its own equivalent, called PGA sockets.

Physically, sockets are always located on a computer’s motherboard. They can’t be upgraded without changing the motherboard entirely, so upgrading to a new generation of processor can require a complete system rebuild — though other components like the PSU, memory, and graphics card can usually be ported over.

If you’re here specifically to find out what socket you have and what socket your processor supports, Intel has an excellent guide on doing just that.

LGA 1200

The latest socket upgrade from Intel is the LGA 1200. This is the new socket design on 400-series motherboards that were released in 2020 specifically for Intel’s 10th-generation processors, and they have 49 more pins than before. These Comet Lake-S processors are more efficient than the previous generation and have the ability to support up to 10 cores. They also support a variety of additional tech, including HEVC, HDR, and VP9 10-bit encoding. This socket represents a key design shift, and they are not backward compatible with the older 300-series chipset.

Intel is sticking with LGA 1200 for its 11th-generation processors, too. These processors use Intel’s new 500-series chipsets, though they still use the same socket.

You’ll find the LGA 1200 socket on h510, B460, h570, Q470, Z490, and W480 chipsets. The 500-series chipsets are coming soon, and they’ll likely use the same naming scheme (we already know about Z590, at least). Despite using the same socket, 500-series motherboards have some improvements. Z590 motherboards, for example, support PCIe 4.0 and come with more PCIe lanes to the CPU.

LGA 2066

The LGA 2066 was released in 2017 as part of Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors and was designed primarily for higher-end desktop computers. It was made to directly replace the LGA 2011-3 socket.

LGA 3647

LGA 3647 is a special type of socket specifically made in 2016 to be used on Xeon and Skylake-SP processors, with support for a six-channel memory controller, non-volatile 3D XPoint memory, and Intel’s UPI. There are a couple of different designs depending on if the chip was made for a Skylake or Xeon processor. You’ll see these primarily in server setups.

LGA 1151

Intel Core i7-6700K Greg Mombert/Digital Trends

LGA 1151 was released 2015, designed to accept the new Skylake class of 14-nanometer processors, the sixth-gen Core designs with product names in the 6000 series.

The design supports six different chipsets, from lowest power to highest: h210, B150, Q150, h270, Q170, and the most performance-oriented, Z170. Compared to the equivalent chipsets on the slightly older LGA 1150 line, all of them support more USB 3.0 connections, faster DDR4 RAM DIMMs (though some motherboards can also be equipped with older and cheaper DDR3 RAM), and for the low-end chipsets, more SATA 3.0 connections.

All LGA 1151 compatible chipsets, except for Z170, restrict overclocking to the GPU only — if you want to overclock your CPU or RAM, you’ll have to opt for the high-end chipset. SATA RAID support is included only on the h270, Q170, and Z170 chipsets, and only the Q170 adds support for Intel Active Management, Trusted Execution, VT-d, and Vpro. Support for these technologies is contingent upon a compatible sixth-gen Core processor.

LGA 1150

Socket LGA 1150 is designed to accommodate the Haswell (fourth-gen Intel Core) processors. This socket also supports the handful of fifth-gen Core desktop chips that came to market.

Like other Intel sockets, it can be found on six different chipsets; H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H87, and Z87. The first trio (H81, B85, and Q85) can be considered the entry-level line. None of them offer support for Intel’s more advanced features, like Intel Rapid Storage and Smart Response.

We’ve rounded up all the LGA 1150 processors on Newegg for a closer look. These chips also include Devil’s Canyon processors, a line that has now been discontinued (which is why you don’t hear it discussed in the same way as Skylake, etc.).

LGA 1155

The oldest socket we’ll cover in this guide, Intel’s LGA 1155 arrived alongside the second generation of Intel Core processors. The socket served as the mainstream option, so most of Intel’s Sandy Bridge line of CPUs is compatible with it. High-end processors, like Intel’s six-core models (called Sandy Bridge-E), are the exception; we’ll talk about their socket next.

LGA 1155 is a cross-generation socket. Though built for Sandy Bridge (Intel Core second-gen), it also accepts Ivy Bridge (Intel Core third-gen) processors, which means that owners of an old LGA 1155 motherboard absolutely have some upgrade options available. Upgrading from an old Sandy Bridge dual-core to an Ivy Bridge quad (like the Core i5-3450, for example) can provide a major boost in performance.

Twelve motherboard chipsets have this socket. The older line of chipsets includes B65, H61, Q67, H67, P67, and Z68, and all were released alongside the Sandy Bridge processors. The launch of Ivy Bridge brought the B75, Q75, Q77, H77, Z75, and Z77. All of these chipsets have the same socket, but some features are disabled on the low-end chipsets.

Note, though, that old LGA 1155 motherboards often won’t work with new processors unless you upgrade the BIOS. You can usually find a compatibility list on the manufacturer’s support site. Check it before you make a purchase.

LGA 2011

Intel’s LGA 2011 socket arrived after 1155 and served as Intel’s extreme high-end chipset for Sandy Bridge-E/EP and Ivy Bridge-E/EP processors. The socket is designed for six-core processors and for Intel’s full line of enterprise chips (the Xeon series).

There are actually six chipsets for this socket, too, but only one is relevant to consumers: X79. This is the chipset built for Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy Bridge-E processors. The other chipsets are intended for Xeon processors, which are almost always a waste of money for home users.

Other sockets to note

Here are a few other Intel sockets that some readers may still have, but that are probably too old to upgrade.

LGA 775: This socket is ancient. It was used for a wide variety of Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Quad, and other CPUs from 2006 until the release of LGA 1366. These systems will need a serious upgrade because, in addition to the outdated socket, chipsets compatible with LGA 775 mostly used DDR2 RAM, though a few late-model motherboards were DDR3 compatible.

LGA 1156: The LGA 1156 came out in 2008, a release that coincided with a new line of processors. Designed to replace the LGA 775, the 1156 marked a new era of cooling systems. Note that the LGA 1156 was discontinued in 2011, and there are no upgrade paths for this socket that is outdated by today’s standards.

LGA 1366: This socket, or Socket B, is a newer, more advanced version of the LGA 1156. Like the LGA 1156, the first version (LG 1366) featured an Intel Core i7 in 2008 and last used in 2011. Both sockets have similar characteristics, but the LGA 1366 has better performance.

Intel’s CPU socket offerings vary with changing technology. Engineers are constantly changing processors’ architecture, so they need to change sockets, too. The changes can confuse people in terms of different chipsets’ capabilities and compatibility, but it’s likely to continue.

Intel sometimes discontinues older processors as newer tech comes around, making finding replacements and upgrades challenging. Sometimes, you can upgrade an old socket to run new processors, but it requires a lot of research to find the right solution.

How To Choose The Best 1150 Motherboard

Before taking the best 1150 motherboard at whatever else, basically you would have to take a gander.

The following we would refer to is the processor attachment after the structure factor. Somewhat recently, a considerable lot of the various sorts of attachments were found among every one of them, three are the one’s material nowadays, in particular; LGA, PGA, and BGA. The motherboards from Intel utilizes LGA while AMD utilizes PGA. As the BGA attachments are reinforced for life to the motherboards due to which they can’t be redesigned or overhauled. Purchasing a sort of processor you need to decide the kind of attachment on your motherboard.

On the market today, there are the two largest CPU manufacturers, Intel and AMD. In which, Intel accounts for about 90%, and ADM only accounts for 10% of the sales market share. Depending on their financial ability, consumers can choose the right products for themselves. Mid- and high-end Intel CPUs for higher performance than AMD. However, AMD has an advantage in the affordable segment.

Besides the price, consumers need to pay attention to the socket type of the CPU and the RAM that the CPU supports. This is to avoid the case of buying the mainboard and CPU, not with the same socket, which will lead to wasting more time and effort in purchasing. The specific parameters of the CPU are usually available on the official website of the manufacturer.

Any game will require a certain amount of RAM. Installed in your cheap gaming PC but you probably won’t need much.

Make sure you have enough RAM for whatever game you want to play. Computer engineers have also shown that. More RAM doesn’t make the game run better. Instead, think of a Graphics Card with more VRAM that will allow for textures. Get higher resolution and better visuals in your games.

Computer users usually have 2 target groups: Those who have little or no intention of upgrading the CPU for the machine; and vice versa are enthusiasts, who want to upgrade the processor chip to discover new technologies. With you falling into the first case, you do not need to be too concerned about the socket factor. For these people, even if the CPU is soldered straight to the motherboard, there should be no problem. However, if you fall into the second situation, you need to pay attention to the socket of the CPU, because it is one of the tuning factors affecting your ability to upgrade.

Just like the multiplier, the chip clock speed comparison only works with models in the same series and from the same manufacturer. You cannot conclude that the 3.8GHz Pentium 4 chip has the same performance as the 3.8GHz Sandy Bridge. The reason lies in the way the CPU handles instructions. The amount of work completed in each clock cycle is different on different CPU architectures. For example, the Pentium 4 chip needs more clock cycles to do the same amount of work as the original Pentium chip, so the Pentium 4’s clock speed will be higher for the same amount of work.

After the processor multiplier and chip speed, cache memory is also a parameter that manufacturers often give to “bait” you. Currently, the CPU cache ranges from 3 MB to 8 MB. There are also CPUs with less than 3MB cache.

First, you need to note that in many cases when the chip is first manufactured, the chips are the same. When Intel and AMD conduct quality checks to approve that chip model, they remove the defective chips. If a chip has 8 MB of L2 cache and part of it fails, it will be sold as a chip with 6 MB or 4 MB of L2 memory. However, this does not apply to all models, because there are models that will have the cache disabled or cleared to save costs.

Can Lga 1151 Cpu Lga 1150 Socket – Android Consejos

Socket 1151 motherboard will not work with socket 1150 CPU.

Table of Contents

Can an LGA 1151 CPU work in an LGA 1150 motherboard?

No, it needs a matching LGA 1151 socket. They are physically incompatible.

Is LGA 1151 the same as LGA 1150?

LGA 1151 is designed as a replacement for the LGA 1150 (known as Socket h4). LGA 1151 has 1151 protruding pins to make contact with the pads on the processor. Most motherboards with the LGA 1151 socket support varying video outputs (DVI, HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 – depending on the model).

What processors will fit LGA 1150?

List of 8 Best LGA 1150 Processors Intel Core i7-4790K. Intel Core i7-4790 Processor. Intel Xeon E3-1230V3. Intel i7 4770 quad-core. Intel Core I5 4570. Intel Core i5 4460. Intel i5-4590. Intel i3 4150.

Is LGA 1151 backwards compatible?

The LGA 1151 V1 socket goes way back to 6th Gen Skylake chips and 100 series motherboards, with the following 7th Gen Kaby Lake chips and 200 series motherboards also fitting neatly into this initial socket design. And so the move towards a new socket with Comet Lake comes as no surprise.

Is LGA 1150 outdated?

Yes, socket 1150 CPUs are outdated. Not only are they over 6 years old, Intel doesn’t make or support them anymore. If you plan to build a new computer, I’d not recommend buying one. They’re not useless unless you need them for some specialized application, but they absolutely are outdated.

Is LGA 1150 or 1151 better?

Thus, we can conclude that LGA 1151 motherboards have better, future-proof connectors. LGA 1150 sockets support only DDR3 RAM memory, while LGA 1151 sockets support either DDR4 only or both DDR3 and DDR4 RAM sticks. Intel rated its DDR3 motherboards for lower voltage, meaning that higher voltages could damage the CPU.

Does LGA 1151 support processor?

The LGA1151 is compatible with “Skylake” desktop and server processors, that have the following features: 2 or 4 CPU cores, up to 8 MB of L3 cache, integrated GT1 or GT2 graphics and a dual-channel memory controller.

Do 1151 coolers fit 1200?

“The heatsink mounting on Intel’s new LGA 1200 (code name Comet Lake S) is identical to all LGA115x sockets (LGA 1150, LGA 1151, LGA 1155, LGA 1156,” Noctua wrote this week on its FAQ page. “Therefore, all Noctua CPU coolers that support LGA 115x also support LGA 1200 and don’t require any mounting updates.”Apr 23, 2020.

Is FCLGA1150 the same as LGA 1150?

Yes, FCLGA1150 is just a longer/more complete name for LGA 1150 ?? 11 of 11 found this helpful.

What is the difference between socket 1150 and 1151?

LGA 1151 has 1151 protruding pins to make contact with the pads on the processor vs The LGA 1150 socket has 1150 protruding pins that make contact with the pads on the bottom side of the processor and the voltage regulator has again been moved from the CPU die to motherboard.

Does LGA 1150 support DDR4?

Simply no. As a prevention the CPU also won’t fit. And even if you fit the CPU somehow, it won’t be compatible, especially due to the fact that LGA 1150 Haswell CPUs have internal memory controller for DDR3, while Skylake and Kaby Lake have an integrated memory controller for DDR4.

Does LGA 1150 support DDR3?

Intel’s Platform Controller Hub (PCH) for the LGA 1150 CPUs is codenamed Lynx Point.LGA 1150. Type LGA Processors Haswell Haswell-WS Broadwell Predecessor LGA 1155 Successor LGA 1151 Memory support DDR3.

What socket is the i7 4790K?

Intel Core i7 4790K – 4 GHz – 4 cores – 8 threads – 8 MB cache – LGA1150 Socket – Box.

What socket does Intel i7 use?

LGA1366 Processor Socket Used Intel® Core™ i7-9xx Processors LGA1366 Intel® Core™ i7-2xxx / i7-37xx Processors LGA1155.

Will a 1150 CPU fit a 1155?

Any 1150 CPU will not be compatible with a 1155 motherboard because not only the hardware (PCIe Lanes, DMA Lanes, Different BUS Protocols) but also the software in terms of BIOS will be inconsistent and incompatible.

Can you change CPU socket?

The socket type is specific to the motherboard design and can not be changed. However, there are a few hacks that can allow some specific motherboards (with an associated socket) to use some CPUs that were not intended for it. However, the CPU is very similar to the other CPUs that the board will accept.

What is the difference between LGA 1151 and 1200?

LGA 1200 is designed as a replacement for the LGA 1151 (known as Socket h5). It uses a modified design of LGA 1151, with 49 more pins on it, improving power delivery and offering support for future incremental I/O features.

Is the motherboard?

The motherboard is the backbone that ties the computer’s components together at one spot and allows them to talk to each other. Without it, none of the computer pieces, such as the CPU, GPU, or hard drive, could interact. Total motherboard functionality is necessary for a computer to work well.

What socket is 10th Gen Intel?

10th Generation Intel® Desktop Processors and 11th Generation Intel® Desktop Processors use the LGA1200 socket and require motherboards based on Intel® 400 Series Desktop Chipset or Intel® 500 Series Desktop Chipsets.

Does LGA 1151 support 10th Gen?

Nope LGA1151 (V1) is present on 100/200 series motherboards, so only 6th and 7th gen intel chips will work. 300 series motherboards have the LGA1151 v2, therefore 8th and 9th gen chips are compatible.

What socket is Intel 9th gen?

9th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors use an LGA1151 socket. However, they require motherboards based on Intel® 300 Series Chipset.

1150 or 1155 which is better.

What is the difference between LGA1150 socket and LGA1155 socket and which one is better. Broadwell Chip Generation

Hello, tech blog readers. Today I will tell you which processors are suitable for socket 1151 (Skylake, Kaby Lake), as well as 1151v2 (Coffee Lake). In this article we will try to talk about the most powerful, inexpensive and cheap Intel Core, Pentium and Celeron chips.

The list of CPUs will be listed to give you a better understanding of the models on the market.

And yes, it’s worth making an important clarification: socket LGA1151 is not backward compatible with 1150 and does not support server Xeon processors.

          Processor compatibility chart

Socket 1151 from Intel is very insidious in its essence, because it has 2 versions: the first supports chips of the 6th and 7th generations, and the second only supports the 8th. In relation, the picture is much simpler, but it is not about him.
Let’s see which , as well as i3, i7, Pentium and Celeron can run on 1151 Gen 1.
Now let’s look at the line of chips that will fit the motherboard with socket 1151v2.
In 2018, 9th generation CPUs were added to the previous list.

The best processor for the price

And now the most interesting part of the comparison. We have indicated which processor fits a particular socket. Now it remains to decide on the model of the chip itself. If you want to learn more about the CPU, we recommend reading this article.
And now let’s go through the brightest representatives of the 6th, 7th and 8th generations:

          Skylake
          — Intel i5 6400T engineering sample. At one time, this processor made a lot of noise, because it had an extremely low cost, 4 productive cores with a frequency of up to 2.8 GHz and a very modest heat pack of 35 watts.

          Kaby Lake
          — Intel Pentium G4620. The so-called «Hyperpen» became a cult among gamers at the time of release, as it offered the functionality of the Intel Core i3-7100 at a significantly lower cost. It is also worth mentioning the peppy mid-range i5-7400 and the top version of the i7-7700k, which has 4 cores and 8 data processing threads. To this day, the stone is considered a relevant, powerful and interesting solution for progressive systems, and also supports overclocking up to 5 GHz by a multiplier.

          Coffee
          Lake
          — i5-8400. The advent of the 8th generation of Intel chips added not only a new socket, but also 2 additional cores of each line, with the exception of Celeron and Pentium. Having a 6-core processor that can automatically increase the frequency from 2.8 to 4 GHz is a very successful investment in the future and therefore I recommend it boldly (at i5 prices, you can find out about this (especially since this discounter is well known to many as reliable and verified seller.

          Differences between
          1151
          and 1151
          v2

It has long been no secret that a processor socket designed for chipsets of the 100th and 200th series is completely incompatible with the 300th. And it’s not even that Intel wants to make more money. The introduction of additional cores forced engineers to radically redesign the power supply scheme of Coffee Lake processors in order to ensure stable operation of the chips, even under extreme overclocking.
Key changes have been made to the VCC (power) and VSS (ground) pads. At the same time, the number of previously reserved RSVD contacts was slightly reduced. Thus the situation is as follows:

          Skylake/Kaby Lake
          Coffee Lake
          VCC 110 128
          VSS 364 378
          RSVD 46 25

As you can see, it is physically impossible to «make friends» of old chips with new motherboards, just like plugging a Chinese plug into a European socket. Yes, there are enthusiasts who managed to get Kaby Lake on the Z370 by modifying the BIOS, but the lion’s share of the functions in this case was unstable, and the rest were completely absent.

So if you have a lot of free time — you can try, but I strongly do not recommend doing this.

I hope that the article was useful to you, so, comment, share with your loved ones. See you in new articles. Bye.

Hello dear guys. I love processors, and everything connected with them is interesting to me. It has always been interesting. And today we have such a topic — 1155 and 1150, what are the differences between the socket and what is the compatibility? I will say right away that there is no compatibility and close, since these are different sockets, although they are similar. 1155 is an older socket and supports two generations of processors like Ivy Bridge (3rd generation) and Sandy Bridge (2nd generation). Well, 1150 is a newer socket, it supports Haswell generations (fourth generation) and Haswell Refresh. I now have exactly 1150 socket and stump (percent).

Oh, I almost forgot, socket 1150 is still a little bit unique — in it, namely in motherboards based on the Z97 chipset, there is support for Broadwell (fifth generation).

That is, in fact, socket 1150 supports two generations, but the second generation is somehow limited — only on the Z97 chipset. There were rumors that there might be support for the Z87, but in the end there is no support.

Well, now to the most important thing. Let’s start with socket 1155. There are two of the best here, the first is the i7 2600K, there is also the i7 2700K, but it’s hard to find. This processor belongs to the Sandy Bridge generation, that is, it’s kind of old for 2018, but still peppy, yes, you can really play on it! The second processor is already the Ivy Bridge generation — the i7 3770K model, well, this is already a suitable processor, of course, not like the new ones, but you can definitely play on it. By the way, another important plus of these processors is the price. For example, we can search for i7 2600K and if you search well, you can find it even for $100..

Now let’s talk about socket 1150. Here everything seems to be even cooler. The coolest CPU is the i7 4790K, whose performance is not far from the i7 7700K (Kaby Lake generation). The price on the used market is also not the lowest, in general. This is the Haswell Refresh generation, I also remember that in order to support this processor, it was necessary to update the BIOS .. So, okay, the second processor is the coolest i7-5775C — generally a rare beast, if you can find it, it will definitely not be cheap. Yes, and it only works on the Z97 chipset, it won’t work on others, it’s already checked.

Note to you — processors with the letter K means that they can be overclocked. Without it — it is impossible, and such prots are even cheaper. The only thing I don’t understand is whether it is possible to overclock the i7 5775C, I read it on the Internet, it seems like it is possible. Look, we start with the i7 2600K, I’ll tell you a little in my own words. As I already wrote — the processor is good, worthy of respect. Has 4 cores, 8 threads. The frequency is 3. 4 GHz, in turbo mode it rises to 3.8. The cache is 8 MB, in general, everything is fine with this processor, and you can play on it, and if you overclock it a little, it’s a bomb for ridiculous money. Here are the main features of the i7 2600K as a picture:

Now about the i7 3770K, it will already be a little better, the frequency is 3.5 GHz, in turbo mode 3.9, everything else is the same. The processor generation is newer, so it seems to be a little more productive .. but for the price of an i7 3770K you can buy an i7 2600K and normal cooling, there is something to think about. Here are the characteristics of the i7 3770K in the form of a picture, see:

So, now about the i7 4790K — well, this is already a normal processor, so you can call it in our conversation. It carries new games, it has a normal frequency, but its used price is not quite normal. not 4.. Okay i7 has 4790K frequency is 4GHz, in turbo mode 4.40, which is very good! Of course, the cooling is also desirable to be more or less. This percentage can be overclocked, then it can definitely last a couple of years, provided it is cooled properly. It is unique in that it is the fifth generation, that is, even in some relevant for today, that is, for 2018. It is also made according to the 14 nm process technology, there is 6 MB of cache. That is, as if new. But the most important thing in this processor is a kind of eDRAM memory, thanks to which it is faster than all previous processors in some operations, despite the lower frequency. Yes, this is a good processor, I would like one for myself, but the price of it used is no, thanks. The frequency of the processor is 3.3 GHz, in turbo mode 3.7, and the most important thing, as I already wrote, is eDRAM memory, the volume of which is 128 MB .. So, here are the characteristics in the form of a picture:

By the way, do you see the question mark opposite eDRAM? I clicked on it and the following message popped up:

Here are the guys in business, here is such a dynamic RAM right in the processor chip!

That’s all, I personally like the i7 2600K because of its price, after all 4 cores . . 8 threads .. and the possibility of overclocking. And I forgot to tell you the main thing — the i7 2600K has solder under the cover, that is, metal, not paste! Therefore, in theory it is better to overclock than others. And I just read that the i7 2600K can be easily overclocked to 4.6-4.8, and at this frequency the processor is already decently good! That’s all, that’s all, good luck to you and take care of yourself !!

          Processor socket LGA 1150
          or
          Socket h4
is for processors that the company
          Intel
          introduced in 2013. it

4th generation processors with integrated graphics core.

          LGA 1150
          designed to replace
          LGA 1155
and is intended for processors on the core
          Haswell
          .

          In 2013 Intel
announced crystals (processors) codenamed Ivy Bridge
          ,
they were designed in 22nm technology and replaced the 32nm Sandy Bridge processors in the market
          .
At the same time, the computing cores have not changed, but the graphics component has undergone major changes. The transition to new processors was not without consequences, processors based on 22nm technology turned out to be much worse overclocked than their predecessors. In this regard, fans of Intel microprocessors
with hope we waited for the correction of the situation in the upcoming products. They just became processors Haswell
          .

Long before the release of new processors, the Internet was filled with numerous speculations about the unprecedented overclocking potential and excellent performance of processors based on the Socket 1150 processor socket
          .

Let’s look at the new processors from the technical side
          . New s1150 i3, i5, i7 processors
have an integrated graphics core Intel HD Graphics 4600
          ,
          much more powerful than s1155 i3, i5, i7
which are equipped with only Intel HD Graphics 2500
          .
This is a very weighty argument for those who are going to work on systems without a separate video card and plan to use the integrated graphics core.

          New microarchitecture details
          Haswell
          .

The manufacturer decided not to increase the number of cores in the new i5 processors
          and i7
          ,
as it was, for example, in the processors of the competing company AMD (recall that processors AMD
          made on socket AM3+
had 2,4,6 and 8 cores). The motive was the excellent performance of quad-core systems.

Using the latest technological process, it was possible to place a hitherto unthinkable number of semiconductors — 1400 million on a crystal area of 177 mm². These transistors have a three-dimensional structure, similar to the structure of the first processors based on 22nm technology Ivy Bridge
          .
          This structure is called Try-Gate
and thanks to it, transistors are small and leakage currents are minimized. This set of solutions not only reduced the cost of the product, but also resulted in a reduction in power consumption compared to processors using the 32nm process technology.

          Let’s look inside the crystal
          Haswell
          .
Inside it are 4 computing cores, a third-level memory array, a graphics accelerator and a “system agent”, which includes a DDR3 RAM controller,
          image transmitters, bus controllers PCI
          and DMI
          .
A high-speed bus is used for communication between internal blocks in a crystal, processor cores and integrated graphics use a common cache memory.

As for computing cores, changes compared to Ivy Bridge
are optimizations, the design of the computational pipeline is the same. The throughput of the task manager has been increased by adding two ports, the fetching and branch prediction mechanisms have been improved, buffer 9 has been optimized in the second level cache0971 translation
          Lookaside Buffer
          ,
as well as during the operation of virtualization technologies, delays have been reduced. The operation of vector construction blocks has also undergone minor changes — they have received support for the latest instructions that speed up cryptography operations, multimedia processing and caching. The depth of data fetching from the cache memory of the first and second levels per cycle has doubled, which means that the Haswell processors
can significantly outperform their predecessors in optimized tasks.

Special sockets are used to connect the computer processor to the motherboard. With each new version, processors got more and more features and functions, so usually each generation used a new socket. This nullified compatibility, but it allowed to implement the necessary functionality.

Over the past few years, the situation has changed a bit, and a list of Intel sockets has been formed that is actively used and supported by new processors. In this article, we have compiled the most popular 2017 Intel processor sockets that are still supported.

Before we get into processor sockets, let’s try to understand what they are. A socket is a physical interface that connects the processor to the motherboard. The LGA socket is made up of a series of pins that align with the plates on the underside of the processor.

New processors usually need a different set of pins, which means there is a new socket. However, in some cases, processors remain compatible with previous . The socket is located on the motherboard and cannot be upgraded without a complete board replacement. This means that updating the processor may require a complete rebuild of the computer. Therefore, it is important to know which socket is used on your system and what you can do with it.

          1. LGA 1151

LGA 1151 is the latest Intel socket. It was released in 2015 for the Intel Skylake processor generation. These processors used the 14 nanometer process technology. Since the new Kaby Lake processors have not been changed much, this socket is still relevant. The socket is supported by the following motherboards: h210, B150, Q150, Q170, h270 and Z170. The release of Kaby Lake also brought such boards: B250, Q250, h370, Q270, Z270.

Compared to the previous LGA 1150 version, USB 3.0 support has appeared here, DDR4 and DIMM memory modules have been optimized, and SATA 3. 0 support has been added. DDR3 compatibility has also been retained. From video, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort are supported by default, while VGA support can be added by manufacturers.

LGA 1151 chips only support GPU overclocking. If you’re looking to overclock your CPU or memory, you’ll have to go with a higher-end chipset. In addition, support for Intel Active Management, Trusted Execution, VT-D and Vpro has been added.

In tests, Skylake processors perform better than Sandy Bridge, and the new Kaby Lake processors are a few percent faster.

Here are the processors currently running on this socket:

          SkyLake:

          • Pentium — G4400, G4500, G4520;
          • Core i3 — 6100, 6100T, 6300, 6300T, 6320;

          2. LGA 1150

The LGA 1150 socket is designed for the previous fourth generation of Intel Haswell processors in 2013. It is also supported by some chips from the fifth generation. This socket works with the following motherboards: H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H87 and Z87. The first three processors can be considered entry-level devices: they do not support any advanced Intel features.

The last two boards add support for SATA Express as well as Thunderbolt technology. Compatible processors:

          Broadwell:

          • Core i5 — 5675C;

          LGA 1155

This is the oldest supported socket in the list for Intel processors. It was released in 2011 for the second generation of Intel Core. Most processors of the Sandy Bridge architecture work on it.

The LGA 1155 socket has been used for two generations of processors in a row and is also compatible with Ivy Bridge chips. This means that it was possible to upgrade without changing the motherboard, just like now with Kaby Lake.

This socket is supported by twelve motherboards. The older line includes B65, H61, Q67, H67, P67 and Z68. All of them were released along with the release of Sandy Bridge. The launch of Ivy Bridge brought B75, Q75, Q77, H77, Z75 and Z77. All boards share the same socket, but some features are disabled on budget devices.

          Supported processors:

          4. LGA 2011

The LGA 2011 socket was released in 2011 after the LGA 1155 as a socket for high-end Sandy Bridge-E/EP and Ivy Bridge E/EP processors. The socket is designed for six-core processors and for all Xenon processors. For home users, the X79 motherboard will be relevant. All other boards are designed for corporate users and Xenon processors.

In tests, the Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy Bridge-E processors show quite good results: performance is 10-15% higher.

          Processors supported:

          • Haswell-E Core i7 — 5820K, 5930K, 5960X;
          • Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 — 4820K, 4930K, 4960X;
          • Sandy Bridge-E Core i7 — 3820, 3930K, 3960X, 3970X.

These were all modern intel processor sockets.

          5. LGA 775

It was used to install Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Quad and many other processors up to the release of LGA 1366. These systems are obsolete and use the old DDR2 memory standard.

          6. LGA 1156

The LGA 1156 socket was released for a new line of processors in 2008. It was supported by the following motherboards: H55, P55, H57 and Q57. New processor models for this socket have not been released for a long time.

          Processors supported:

          Westmere (Clarkdale)

          • Celeron — G1101;
          • Pentium — G6950, G6951, G6960;
          • Core i3 — 530, 540, 550, 560;
          • Core i5 — 650, 655K, 660, 661, 670, 680.

          7. LGA 1366

The LGA 1366 is the high end version of the 1566. Supported by X58 motherboard. Supported processors:

          Westmere (Gulftown)

          • Core i7 — 970, 980;
          • Core i7 Extreme — 980X, 990X.

          Nehalem (Bloomfield)

          • Core i7 — 920, 930, 940, 950, 960;
          • Core i7 Extreme — 965, 975.

          Terminals

In this article, we looked at the generations of Intel sockets that were used before and are actively used in modern processors. Some of them are compatible with new models, while others are completely forgotten, but are still found in users’ computers.

Latest Intel 1151 socket, supported by Skylake and KabyLake processors. It can be assumed that CoffeLake processors, which will be released this summer, will also use this socket. There used to be other types of Intel sockets, but they are very rare now.

          LGA 2011.
First of all, low prevalence. In case of problems, it is difficult to find the motherboard. Such computers are only for enthusiasts. There are many times more conventional motherboards.
More sizes. You need a huge cooler, and a huge case.
And now imagine, to put all this thug to work after himself, or to dad, mom, etc. .. Few people will like a huge and heavy system unit.
Energy consumption. It will eat a lot, always, even in idle time, much more than the usual i5 and i3.
Price. The decision at LGA 2011 will be expensive.
Performance. Windows and the browser will not be appreciated, they will work just like on a modern Core i3.
Games will appreciate, but only the most modern, 12 channels then. And often I want to play old games.
          It’s a great idea to play CS 1.6 on a 6 core i7 with a TDP of 140W. Super!!!
Even modern life does not allow to play a lot, there is simply no time.
6-core will just stand, or at best distribute torrents. For this, it is also directly necessary :))) It’s a joke, you don’t need a powerful percent for torrents, you need more RAM.
Such a 6-core processor can be bought for permanent archiving, video encoding, and other things. But here, too, he may not justify himself.
All in all, LGA 2011 is a bold decision. But an experienced investor is unlikely to invest his money in this, since the benefits are highly debatable.
But LGA 2011 will be bought by an enthusiast, primarily for self-satisfaction.
          The choice is yours.

1155th is simply irrelevant. Assembly based on socket 1150 will be cheaper than in 2011. However, there are advantages to 2011 as well. In particular, quad-channel memory, 40 PCI-E lanes… In addition, 6-core processors have been developed for this socket, and soon there will probably be eight-core ones. In short, if you have money and a desire to assemble a more productive computer, then choose 2011. If there is no desire to stick to top solutions in the budget, then the 1150th.
