Video card MSI GeForce GT 610 (N610GT-2GD3H/LP) has been on the market for a long time in the segment of ultra-budget solutions, but is still in demand in certain circles of consumers. This fact is due to the fact that in this category, compact dimensions and silent operation are more important characteristics, and not performance in modern games.

Some users may argue that most modern processors have an integrated GPU and do not need a discrete adapter. Despite this, there are not only many outdated solutions without a video core on sale, but also modern budget (AMD Athlon) and high-performance CPU series (AMD FX). In any case, they require the installation of a video accelerator to display the image, even if you do not plan to run computer games at all.

So, the MSI GeForce GT 610 (N610GT-2GD3H/LP) model boasts a low-profile design, a passive cooling system and an affordable price. What can you expect from it in terms of performance and how it looks against the background of competitors — let’s find out.

The MSI N610GT-2GD3H/LP graphics card comes in a colorful cardboard box that has a very nice white and blue color scheme. On the front side is the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the model. The main features of the video adapter are immediately noted:

  • low-profile design, thanks to which the graphics accelerator takes up less space in the case;
  • completely silent passive cooling system;
  • low-profile interface panel blank kit included.

On the back of the box there is a description of the additional advantages of the video accelerator:

  • the use of reliable solid capacitors with a service life of over 10 years, high efficiency and low heating;
  • the use of chokes with a ferrite core, which have excellent stability even at high loads;
  • the presence of proprietary software for monitoring and overclocking (MSI Afterburner).

The following are the minimum system requirements that the manufacturer recommends that you adhere to in order for your graphics card to perform optimally. By today’s standards, they are very low: a 300 W power supply and 2 GB of RAM.

Inside the package, the MSI GeForce GT 610 (N610GT-2GD3H/LP) is fixed with a special cardboard mold and placed in an antistatic bag. This design significantly increases the safety of fragile electronics during transportation.

Graphics accelerator package includes:

  • software and driver disk;
  • two additional blanking plates for the interface panel;
  • quick start guide.

Accessory kit includes everything you need to build your computer. I was especially pleased with the additional plugs, which greatly simplify the installation of the adapter in a compact case.

Video card interface panel contains the following connectors:

  • 1 x D-Sub;
  • 1 x HDMI;
  • 1 x DVI-I.

    This set of connectors is one of the most successful for assembling a budget system, since it allows you to connect both an analog (D-Sub) and a digital monitor (DVI-I) or TV (HDMI), without using additional adapters.

    The following resolutions are supported:

    • digital — up to 2560 x 1600;
    • analog — up to 2048 x 1536.

    Appearance and element base

    The MSI N610GT-2GD3H/LP video card has a rather original appearance, because it is built on a low-profile printed circuit board (70 mm high). Note that the main feature of this design is the ease of installation in compact cases, which is also accompanied by the ability to disconnect the D-Sub connector and replace the interface panel plug with a more compact one.

    Graphics accelerator power consists of two phases: one for the GPU and one for the video memory, respectively. In this case, reliable solid capacitors and efficient chokes with a ferrite core are used.

    On the back of the PCB are four of the eight memory chips and stickers with technical information. Please note that there is a protective seal on one of the cooling system fixing screws. This means that dismantling the CO will void the warranty.

    The MSI GeForce GT 610 (N610GT-2GD3H/LP) is based on the NVIDIA GF119 (Fermi) graphics chip, made using the 40nm process technology. It consists of 48 universal shader processors, 8 texture units and 4 raster units. The nominal frequency of the GPU at maximum load is 810 MHz.

    The graphics accelerator memory with a total capacity of 2 GB is assembled using eight Nanya NT5CB128M16FP-DI chips with a capacity of 2 Gb each. They operate at an effective frequency of 1000 MHz and communicate with the GPU via a 64-bit bus with a bandwidth of 8 GB / s.

    Cooling system

    The graphics card components are cooled by a fairly large black painted aluminum heatsink. It occupies two slots for expansion cards and is located on almost the entire area of ​​the printed circuit board (total length is 160 mm).

    Now let’s examine the performance of this CO during stress tests. The readings of the sensors were performed by the MSI Afterburner program. At maximum load, the temperature of the graphics core did not exceed 76°C. In principle, one can put up with such a value, given the fact that the cooler operates absolutely quietly, and the maximum allowable GPU temperature is declared by the manufacturer at 102°C. You also need to remember that during everyday work (office programs, watching videos, surfing the web), the GPU temperature will be even lower.

    After going into idle mode, the GPU frequency dropped to 270 MHz and its temperature dropped to 57°C.

    In general, the cooling system of the MSI N610GT-2GD3H/LP model performs at approximately the same efficiency as other models in this price range. Therefore, when assembling a computer in a compact case, additional airflow may be required to maintain the optimal temperature of the components inside.
