What is the Difference between Core I5 6th 7th and 8th generations

There are many kinds of the processor which are being made by Intel company, these processors names are as intel core processor, Intel Pentium processor, Intel Celeron processor, Intel Xeon processor, Intel Xeon Phi processor, Intel Itanium processor, intel atom processor, and Intel Quark Soc. These all processors are used in a different electronic device like laptop, desktop, mobile phones, research devices, etc. however, There is a lot of difference between 6th, 7th and 8th generation’s processor of core i5 mostly the difference can observe in its performance, specifications and in features as well.

Figure: What is the Difference between Core I5 6th 7th and 8th generations

However there is also a difference in same core and same generation processors due to late launched with updated version as if we just talk about core i5’s 6th generation its # of cores, max turbo frequency, processor base frequency, and cache storage memory may vary from its every newly launched version in which all launched versions are being known as core i5 6th generation but the same generation may have different specification due to variations in launching dates.

Here is the comparison between 6th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor and 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor. If we talk about essentials of these three processors the vertical segment, processor number, lithography and status will be desktop for all, i5-6600, i5-7600K, i5-8600T, and 14 nm and launched will be for all respectively.

Performance of Core I5

If we talk about the performance of these processors then definitely there will be a big difference will be seen, as we know that the new version or new generation is being launched just because of improving the performance of the processor as ultimately the device performance. However, here I will discuss a few things regarding performance comparison. These are the performance differences between 6th, 7th and 8th generation of Core i5 processor.

Memory

In the memory specifications, the discussion about differences in memory will be seen in Max memory size, memory types, Max number of memory channel and Max memory bandwidth. So if we compare the Max memory size of upper three generations the memory size will be 64 GB for the 6th generation, 64 GB for the 7th generation and 128 GB for the 8th generation processors.

There every processor can support different type of memory type however the above processors have and can support the different memory type as 6th generation processor will support DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V type of memory and 7th generation will support DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V type of memory and 8th generation will support the DDR4-2666 type of memory. The max number of memory channels will be 2 for al above-mentioned generation of core i5 and max memory bandwidth for a 6th generation will be 34. 2 GB/s and for an 8th generation, it will be 42.6 GB/s and there is no one processor which is ECC memory supported.

Processor’s Graphics of Core I5

In the 6th generation, the processor graphics is Intel HD graphics 530, in a 7th generation it rises as Intel HD graphics 630 and in an 8th generation, the HD is be replaced by UHD as Intel UHD graphics 630 due to UHD the graphics support will boost up. The graphics base frequency is 350 MHz for all the above three generations.

The graphics max dynamic frequency is also the same for all three generations as 1.15 GHz, the graphic video max memory is 64 GB for above three and these all are 4k supported. Max resolution for all three above generation is same as 4096*[email protected]

The durability of Core I5

The thermal solution specification for all the above three generations is PCG 2015C (65 W) for 6th and 7th generations and PCG 2015A (35 W) for 8th generation processor. T Junction is 100 °C For 7th and 8th generations and the 6th generation can support T case at 70 °C.

Hence these are few differences in core i5’s 6th, 7th, and 8th generations processors.

The Intel Core i5 Processors

Launched in June 2014, Intel’s latest CPUs are codenamed ‘Haswell’ but are more officially known as 4th Generation Intel Core processors. The familiar i3 /i5 / i7 branding is retained and easily allows customers to identify the budget, mid-range and premium versions respectively. As you might expect, with this new generation of processors comes improved performance and an overall reduction in power requirements, although the highest-performance variants actually consume 13 watts more than their 3rd generation counterparts at full throttle.

Improved on-board graphics

Perhaps the biggest improvement is in the area of embedded graphics. With this new generation of CPUs the graphics are now known as HD 4600 and with the change of name comes about a significant improvement in performance, especially for 3D games and applications. Furthermore, up to three separate displays can now be driven simultaneously, reducing the need for a discrete graphics card where triple-head monitors are required.

Guide to suffix variants

The single-letter suffix on each model of processor denotes whether it can be overclocked (K), or is low-power (S) or ultra-low power (T). Note that ‘power’ in this context refers to electrical power, not computational power. We recommend S or T suffix processors where cool-running / energy saving is required, or K-series processors where maximum performance is desirable and sufficient cooling can be provided accordingly.

Variant performance comparisons

In terms of computational performance, Intel don’t provide official figures for their processors because so much depends on other hardware such as motherboard, type of memory, etc. So instead, we would suggest that potential customers refer to real-world empirical performance benchmarks such as those published by Passmark and quoted / linked to in the specification table below. These allow a simple comparison to be made between the different variants of processors and are based upon the averaged results of many users’ PC systems across the world. An opinion about the relative performance differences between each model of processor can therefore be quickly formed.

Core i5 / Core i7 differences

In essence, Core i5 processors are designed to be more affordable, lower performing versions of the Core i7 parts. There will certainly be some overlap in performance between the highest-end i5 processors and the cheapest i7 versions, but in essence the Core i5 range has a smaller cache (6MB rather than 8MB), a fewer maximum number of threads (4 not 8) and the omission of Hyper-Threading (HT Technology).

Intel Core i5-6200U / i5-6300U 6th Gen ‘Skylake’ Mid-Range Laptop CPUs (Review) – Laptop Processors

The 6th Generation “Skylake” Intel Core i5-6200U, just like its slightly faster i5-6300U sibling, is a mid-range processor for mainstream laptops. This 6th Gen U parts offers better performance than the i3-6010U and are somewhat slower than the i7-6500U from the same CPU series.

Intel Core i5-6200U / i5-6300U 6th Gen Skylake PassMark CPU Benchmark

In comparison to its older 5th Gen “Broadwell” i5-5200U and i5-5300U equivalents, the i5-6200U and i5-6300U “Skylake” are only marginally faster. The same applies to their Intel HD 520 integrated graphics which replaces the HD 5500. On the positive side, the 6th Gen version provides a greater power efficiency and smoother high-resolution video playback, especially 4K content. The i5-6200U / i5-6300U is an excellent choice for the daily home and office tasks and casual gaming. It can be additionally used for more hardware demanding tasks like work in photo and video editing or graphics design programs. If these tasks are the main purpose of using your laptop, systems with a quad-core Intel i7 and preferably a dedicated video card are recommended.

Real World Use Review

We recorded a video (below) showing what performing usual computing tasks looks like on the Intel Core i5-6200U. The i5-6300U performs very similar, with almost unnoticeable boost over the 5200U. We reviewed multitasking, web browsing, video playback, Office document, image and video editing, and gaming capabilities. For the test, we used a Windows 10 Home-based HP Pavilion 15.6″ laptop with the i5-6200U, 6GB of RAM, a mechanical 500GB hard drive at 5,400rpm, and Full HD display. A typical 2015 / 2016 mainstream notebook. Please keep in mind the same CPU could perform somewhat different in other systems, depending on other hardware specs, such as RAM size, single- or dual-channel RAM setups, and storage speed, as well as cooling solution of each laptop.

Web browsing was simply flawless, even when you have multiple data-heavy web pages opened. The same applies to video playback, with some software-related exceptions. CPU usage during Full HD and Ultra HD (4K) video playback was almost unnoticeable, thanks to its hardware-based video decoding capabilites. Exceptions are 4K YouTube video playbacks in Google Chrome browser and 4K playback in VLC media player program, producing video stuttering and very high CPU load of up to 100%. The problem in Chrome can be fixed with h364ify browser extension, while in VLC player you’ll have to tweak video settings to make the playback smoother. As for work in the Office suite, the most popular apps – Word and Excel run perfectly. Although professional photo and video editing remains in the domain of the quad-core Intel chips, the i5-6200U provides decent performance for these tasks, too.

For a list of laptops with the 6th Gen Intel Core i5-6200U “Skylake” CPU, click here. The i5-6300U isn’t used in as many notebook models, but is included in the famous Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet.

Note: The benchmark scores of the listed processors are averages measured across various devices with these processors. The scores and real-world performance of the Intel Core i5-6200U and compared CPUs may vary depending on the notebooks’ other components, settings, cooling, and other factors. However, the benchmark results are good indicators of the processors’ performance.

Below you can read and submit user reviews, questions, and answers about the processor. Thank you for your contribution.

A Complete Guide To Intel Processors

Copied link!

Tom Gerencer

|

April 30, 2021

For decades, Intel® has made the most trusted CPUs on the market, but the thicket of model numbers, names, and generations can make it challenging to choose the best Intel Core CPU for your PC.

Below, we explain the Intel processor brands, generations, and models in plain, easy-to-understand English. We’ll also look at naming conventions, so when you see Intel Core™ i3-8145U or Intel Core i7-10510Y, you’ll know exactly what each part of the name means.

We also demystify the Intel CPU generations and “Lake” monikers, and the latest Intel processors – 11th Generation – and how they support the new Evo platform (and why that’s exciting). Finally, we’ll clarify Intel’s Core, Xeon®, Pentium®, and Celeron® processors, with the generations, brand modifiers, and suffixes of each.

For a comprehensive list of all Intel processor model numbers, see the Intel product specs site.

What are Intel processors?

Intel processors are the most popular CPUs for desktops and laptops in the world. They’re offered in a range of model families, with names like Core, Xeon, Pentium, and Celeron. They come in multiple generations like 9th, 10th, and 11th, also called Coffee Lake, Comet/Ice Lake, and Rocket/Tiger Lake.

These household-word processors power most of the PCs on the market, with specific models engineered for enhanced speed, mobility, creative workflows, gaming performance, business news, big data, and other applications.

Intel processor naming conventions

To sift out the differences between the unique Intel CPUs, you have to know the parts of each name. Each processor name has a brand, brand modifier, generation, SKU, and product line. Once you know what each of those mean, you can identify each processor at a glance. Let’s take a look:

The parts of an Intel processor name:

  • Brand: The overall product line, such as Core, Xeon, Pentium, or Celeron.
  • Brand modifier: In the Core brand of Intel chips (and only there), you’ll find a brand modifier such as i3, i5, i7, or i9 after the “Core” name. Higher modifier numbers generally mean better performance and more features. (The Xeon, Pentium, and Celeron brand names don’t have these modifiers. )
  • Generation indicator: After the brand and modifier, you’ll find a generation indicator like 9, 10, or 11, closely followed by an SKU number sequence. This indicates when the chip was made. (9th Gen Intel chips came out in 2018-2019, 10th Gen in 2019-2020, and 11th Gen in 2020-2021.)
  • SKU: This is a more specific model number within each brand and generation. Generally, a higher model number means a more full-featured processor. But you can’t compare model numbers from one brand to another, such as Core vs Xeon.
  • Product line: The product line suffix at the end of each Intel processor name lets you know what each processor is generally meant for. For instance, the “XE” at the end of an Intel Core processor’s name denotes a max-performance desktop chip.

One note about these naming conventions: they’re not dyed in the wool. Only the Core brand has the modifiers, and the SKUs and product lines don’t follow any standardized code that’s easy to tease out from one brand to the next.

Intel processor generations

One of the stickiest parts of Intel processor names is the generations. The good news? It’s easy to grasp, once you see it explained. Techies often talk about 9th Gen, 10th Gen, and 11th Gen processors, and the different “Lake” processor families, like Whiskey, Ice, and Sky. But actually, “lakes,” “generations,” and “microarchitectures” are the same thing.

Each generation delivers significant performance upgrades, increasing productivity and connectivity, such as longer battery life, faster clock speeds at up to 5.3 GHz with Turbo Boost, Intel WiFi 6 (Gig+), Thunderbolt™ 3 technology, and immersive 4K HDR.

Intel Core processors, ranked by generation:

  • 8th Generation, released 2017 to 2019; Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake, Whisky Lake
  • 9th Generation, released 2018 to 2019; Coffee Lake Refresh (Desktop)
  • 10th Generation, released 2019 to 2020; Comet Lake (Desktop), Ice Lake (Mobile)
  • 11th Generation, released 2020 to 2021; Rocket Lake (Desktop, Comet Lake Refresh (Desktop), Tiger Lake (Mobile)

What’s the latest Intel processor?

As of early 2021, the latest Intel processor is the 11th Generation Tiger Lake chip for mobile PCs and the 10th Generation Comet Lake processor for desktops. The eagerly-awaited 11th Generation Rocket Lake PC processor from Intel will hit shelves sometime in early to mid 2021.

The 11th Generation of Intel chips is incredibly exciting, because it supports the new Evo platform. That’s not a chip, but a new from-the-ground-up redesign of PC hardware that wakes from sleep in less than 1 second, switches between apps and tabs in a blink, and supports remote workflows like no other machine in history.

1. Intel Core processors

Intel Core processors are Intel’s flagship family of CPUs. First released in 2006, they replaced the popular Pentium line as the standard for high-end processor chips. They’re available in different models like Core i3, i5, i7, i9, and X, and they bring a new generation to market every 1 to 2 years.

As a rule, 1) the higher the Core “i” number, the better the chip; and 2) the newer the generation, the better the chip. So an Intel Core I7 processor will give higher performance than an Intel Core i5 chip, and an 11th Generation Core i9 chip performs better (with more features) than a 10th Generation Core i9 chip.

Intel Core processors, ranked by performance:

11th Generation

  • 2021 Rocket Lake; Core i9-11
  • 2020 Comet Lake Refresh; Core i7-11, Core i5-11, Core i3-11

10th Generation

  • 2019 Comet Lake; Core i9-10
  • 2019 Ice Lake; Core i7-10, Core i5-10, Core i3-10

9th Generation

  • 2018 Coffee Lake Refresh; Core i9-9, Core i7-9, Core i5-9, Core i3-9

Generally speaking, the higher you go in the table above, the “better” the processor. For instance, 11th Generation Core processors add new enhancements for connectivity, graphics, and AI, creating a much faster, easier-to-use platform with WiFi 6. They’re incredibly thin and do more with less electricity, letting manufacturers like HP create thinner, lighter, cooler, and more powerful laptops than ever before.

Core suffix meanings:

  • C: Desktop processor with high-end graphics
  • F: High-performance processor used with discrete graphics cards (ex. Gaming)
  • H: High-performance graphics
  • K: Unlocked for overclocking
  • M: Mobile
  • Q: Quad-core
  • R: Desktop processor, BGA1364 (mobile) package, high-end graphics
  • S: Performance-optimized lifestyle
  • T: Power-optimized for best desktop computing
  • U: Ultra-low power for laptop efficiency
  • X: Extreme unlocked for high desktop performance
  • Y: Extreme low power

The 11th Generation Intel Core i9 processor is a shockingly fast CPU. See our write-up, What You Should Know About the Intel Core i9 Processor.

2. Intel Xeon processors

Intel Xeon processors are the brand’s line of business CPUs. They have comparable clock speeds to the Core family of processors. Where they shine is their support for ECC error-correcting memory, which is a must for critical computing applications, like financial or scientific computing.

Aside from the “Lake” generation names, Intel dubbed the 2019 model “2nd Generation Xeon,” and the 2020 models, “3rd generation Xeon. ” This has nothing to do with the more broad chip generations like the 10th and 11th Generation. If you have an older machine with a Xeon CPU, don’t worry. The first Xeon processor actually came out in 1998, with new models released regularly since then.

Intel Xeon processor generations:

  • Cooper Lake, 2020 to 2021; Xeon Gold, Xeon Platinum
  • Comet Lake, 2020 to 2021; Xeon W
  • Cascade lake, 2019 to 2020; Xeon Platinum, Xeon Gold, Xeon Silver, Xeon Bronze
  • Coffee Lake, 2018 to 2019; Xeon E

Xeon suffix meanings:

The different letter suffixes at the end of the Xeon processor names tell you a little about the chip’s features.

  • E: Embedded
  • H: Large memory support (up to 1.12 TB per socket)
  • HL: Large memory support (up to 4.5 TB)
  • L: Large memory support (up to 4.5 TB)
  • M: Medium memory support (up to 2 TB)
  • N: Networking specialized
  • P: Performance and power
  • R: Refresh (high performance)
  • S: Search optimized
  • T: Thermal / long life cycle / low power
  • U: Uniprocessor
  • V: Virtual machine density optimized
  • Y: Speed select

Favorites among Intel Xeon-based machines, the HP ZBook Create and HP ZBook Studio workstations can take your design, video editing, and creativity to the next level with amazing power and vapor-cooled thermals.

3. Intel Pentium processors

Intel Pentium processors are mid-to-entry level CPUs that deliver high value at more modest price points than the Core and Xeon processor lines. These chips manage similar clock speeds to the more robust Core chips, keeping prices down by not including premium features like Turbo Boost and HyperThreading. That means if you’re not running processor-guzzling applications for big data or design, a Pentium processor can be an excellent choice.

Intel Pentium processor generations:

Jasper Lake, 2021; Pentium Silver

Comet Lake, 2019 to 2020; Pentium Gold

Tiger Lake (Mobile), 2019 to 2020; Pentium Gold

Coffee Lake, 2018 to 2019; Pentium Gold

  • H: High power
  • U: Medium power
  • T: Low power

A fan favorite for its phenomenal power in a tiny chassis, the HP Slim desktop PC packs an Intel Pentium processor into a “tower” shorter than one foot high and just 3.74 inches wide.

4.

Intel Celeron processors

Intel Celeron processors are a line of desktop and laptop CPUs based on the Pentium 4-core chip. They have less cache memory and reduced speeds, making them a much more affordable choice for those who stick to browser-based activities and non-processor-heavy applications.

The first Intel Celeron processor appeared in 1998, with new generations regularly since then. The newest Celeron processors are the Celeron N4500 and Celeron N5100, with clock speeds of 1.1 GHz and 1.8 GHz, and burst speeds of 2.8 GHz.

Intel Celeron processor generations

Jasper Lake, 2021; Celeron N

Comet Lake, 2019 to 2020; Celeron G5

Tiger Lake (Mobile), 2019 to 2020; Celeron 6305

Coffee Lake, 2018 to 2019; Celeron G4

Celeron suffix meanings:

  • E: Embedded
  • J: Processor has NX (No-execute) feature
  • L: Mobile low power
  • S: Small form factor CPU
  • P: Mobile power-optimized
  • Q: Desktop or mobile quad-core
  • T: Extended temperature range
  • U: Mobile ultra-low power
  • X: Desktop or mobile extreme power

Summary

Intel makes hundreds of different processor models, with more hitting the market each year. For a quick rundown:

  1. Intel Core CPU is their flagship line of powerful chips for business and personal use.
  2. The Intel Xeon line is specially designed for science and data-heavy workflows.
  3. The Intel Pentium family of processors is a budget-friendly option that delivers a big bang for the middle-sized budget.
  4. Intel Celeron serves up fast performance for entry-level shoppers with light-level workflows.

    Comparing Intel i5 processors of different generations: Which is better to choose?

    What is the difference between Intel i5 processors of different generations 8, 9 and 10

    When you buy a PC or laptop, the first thing you pay attention to is the processor. Assuming you’ve chosen the Intel Core Series, you’ll find that the Intel Core processor line is usually divided into four levels of Intel processors: i3, i5, i7, and i9.

    There are very good i9 processors nowspecially designed for gamers and solve many problems.

    What is the difference between Intel i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors

    Let’s now understand the main differences between i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors. These are the processors we usually deal with today.

    • i3 processors are entry-level dual-core processors. So this assumes two processors on the same chip. i3 processors have Hyper-Threading for efficient processing.
    • i5 processors come with two (Dual Core) as well as four cores (Quad Core). These processors are equipped with Intel Turbo-Boost Technology, which allows the cores to run faster than their operating frequency when needed. This process is also known as overclocking.
    • i7 processors have two (Dual Core) or four cores (Quad Core) and are equipped with Hyper-Threading and Turbo-Boost technologies.
    • Core i9 processors support Intel Technology Thermal Velocity Boost for +100MHz Turbo . High class i9 processor is suitable for gaming high performance games. These laptops feature Musclebook, a new name for similar DTR devices.

    So an initial look at the three levels shows that the i9 processor is better than the i7, and the i5 processor is more efficient than the i3 processor.

    Now let’s look at the numbering and letters that are found on each processor.

    How to find out what generation the Intel

    processor is. For example, you have a Core i7-8650U processor and a Core i5-6200U processor. The first number represents the generation. So the i7 processor is 8th generation and the i5 processor is 6th generation in this example.

    Naturally, the higher the number, the later the generation.

    6th generation processors introduced in 2015. But there are already 10th generation processors on the market today .

    The next part in the designation is a three-digit number, 650 and 200 respectively.

    These numbers point to SKU (stock holding unit). Or more clearly: the model number.

    The model number is followed by a letter. In our example, this is U. Letter designations distinguish one processor from others in the same generation.

    Intel uses a different letter for each processor. They represent a category of computer systems for which the processor is ideal. What do these letters stand for?

    Difference between 8th, 9th and 10th gen Intel i5 processors

    While you may not see much difference in quality between 8th gen i5 and 9th gen i5 processors, 10th generation processors are a separate class.

    10th Gen Processor is Ice Lake Processor with 10nm Processor, While 8th and 9th Gen Processors are 14nm Sky Lake Processors.

    The Sky Lake chip was introduced in 2015 as the 6th generation processor. So the 7th, 8th and 9th- th (they are all Sky Lake processors with a 14nm process) are updated versions of the 6th generation with some incremental improvements.

    8th generation processors offer the full range of processors, while 9th generation only offers high performance processors.

    Although 10th Generation Processors do not provide high performance graphics, they are significantly faster than previous generations.

    Let’s now compare i5 processors 8th, 9th- th and 10th generation and understand the difference.

    Comparison parameters:

    When comparing 8th, 9th and 10th generation processors, we will consider only the main functions without going into technical details.

    Lithography

    Lithography is a semiconductor technology used to make a processor. Denoted in nanometer (nm). The lower the number, the smaller and more power efficient your processor is

    Processor Cores

    Core, a hardware term, refers to the number of independent CPUs on a chip.

    Threads

    The software term Threads denotes a sequence of functions that can be processed by a single CPU core.

    Base frequency

    This is the operating frequency of CPU processing time. Measured in GHz.

    Maximum Turbo Frequency

    This is the maximum single core frequency at which the processor can operate using Turbo Boost and Thermal Velocity (if available).

    CPU Cache

    CPU Cache is an area of fast memory located on the processor.

    Using these critical parameters, we will now compare four processors, each of the 8th, 9th and 10th generation processors.

    060

    Intel Iris Plus Graphics Intel UHD Graphics

    Comparison of 8th and 9th generation Intel i5 processors

    Compared to 8th and 9th generation i5 processors , except for clock speeds, especially in the i5 9600 with a base processor speed of 3.10 GHz.

    Thus, 9th generation processors are relatively faster than their 8th generation counterparts.

    However, if you enable processors 9-th generation, the difference in clock frequency will be little noticeable. In terms of pricing, 8th gen processors can be cheaper.

    10th generation Intel i5 processors

    When it comes to comparing 10th generation processors, they are in a class by themselves. If you compare the main characteristics of 9th and 10th generation processors, there will be little difference between them.

    However, when it comes to advanced features, 10th generation processors are ahead.

    • 10th generation processors equipped with Intel Iris Plus graphics
    • These processors feature 2.5x accelerated AI, 3x wireless speed and 2x graphics performance.
    • 10th generation processors deliver faster wireless speeds with WiFi 6 (Gig+) technology and the most versatile and fastest port thanks to Thunderbolt 3 technology.

    Why is the 10th generation Intel i5 processor better?

    Here are a few reasons why 10th generation i5 processors are preferred over previous generations.

    New process

    There is a huge shift in lithography as Intel’s 10th Gen processors move to 10nm from the previous 14nm process.

    Intel’s chip architecture has been based on the 14nm process since the introduction of the sixth generation Sky Lake processors in 2015.

    The highlight of the 10th generation processors are the Ice Lake chips with the 10nm processor.

    Faster Processes

    10th Gen Intel processors have Sunny Cove cores that are significantly faster than previous generation cores.

    Intel estimates that these cores increase IPC (instructions per clock) by about 18%.

    In addition, these cores come with Dynamic Tuning 2.0 to control the Turbo Boost capability. So you get better performance even if these chips run at slightly lower clock speeds compared to the 9 chips-th generation.

    Highly advanced features

    Integrated graphics have been in CPUs since the 2nd generation of Sandy Bridge processors.

    If this was a landmark introduction, then Thunderbolt 3 in 10th generation chips is the next big integration.

    Certain high-end laptops offered Thunderbolt 3 support using a Thunderbolt 3 controller.

    However, 10th generation Intel chips get Thunderbolt 3 as a built-in feature. This could lead to lower costs for PC manufacturers as well as more space inside laptops.

    Another positive aspect of 10th generation processors is that all laptops will have WiFi 6 compatibility.

    It used to be known as 802.11ax. The advantage is that it provides much faster speeds on 2.4GHz and can also handle multiple devices at the same time.

    It is also compatible with 5 GHz operating frequency. Thus, people who have a WiFi 6 router at home will benefit greatly.

    Large memory and high speeds

    10th generation Intel processors support LPDDR4X RAM. The immediate benefit is that it provides almost 50% more memory bandwidth.

    In this way, games will become more improved. Professionals in the video editing industry welcome this valuable memory addition to their systems.

    Today’s 8th and 9th generation processors support LPDDR3 RAM. The maximum memory capacity is 16 GB. Now this amount of memory should be more than enough for the average user.

    However, LPDDR4X opens up new possibilities for video editors and avid gamers.

    Gamers will love the 10th generation Intel processor

    Gamers are still unhappy with Intel Integrated Graphics. With the arrival of the new Gen11 graphics in 10th generation processors, they have reason to rejoice.

    These processors can provide one teraflop of performance, delivering fantastic gaming experience in 1080p . Support for VESA Adaptive-Sync makes it doubly enjoyable for the avid gamer.

    Now gamers don’t need onboard DRAM to get the best graphics performance. Intel claims that its Gen11 graphics can perform better than Iris Plus graphics even without the use of e-DRAM.

    Intel i5 10th generation or 8th / 9th generation — which is better?

    All the features presented above should prove that the 10th generation chips are much better than previous generations. Hence, people wishing to switch to 10th generation processors can happily do so.

    However, does this make current 8th and 9th generation chips obsolete?

    No, you can still purchase the 8th generation processor. Here are a few reasons:

    10th generation is faster, but 8th generation chips are not far behind

    • No one can deny that 10th generation chips are faster than modern ones. However, the average user cannot easily tell them apart.
    • Performance is excellent, but it’s an advantage in applications that support it.
    • The average user who uses MS Office or regular web browsers will not find much difference in speed.
    • The number of cores and threads does not change, as it did when Intel introduced the 8th generation processors. Compared to the 7th generation processors when the difference in speed was immediately noticeable.

    The 10th Gen i5 processor offers the best gaming experience, but it’s still far from a gaming laptop.

    Adaptive-Sync support improves smoothness. Despite these improvements, it’s nowhere near as capable as the gaming laptops available today.

    Gaming laptops come with high quality graphics processors. 10th generation processors cannot match the gaming performance levels of today’s GPUs. If you opt for a 10th generation processor, an external GPU should greatly enhance your gaming experience.

    10th generation processor systems cost more

    We are at the very beginning of the 10th generation processor release. Therefore, the prices of these computers and laptops will be higher compared to the previous generation.

    Support for RAM LPDDR4X RAM makes the processor more expensive. As the number of laptops with 10th generation processor increases, prices may come down.

    At the same time computers and laptops on the 8th and 9thgenerations will begin to offer attractive discounts and incentives to purchase.

    Which Intel processor should I buy?

    There are many factors to consider before choosing the right processor. Processor speed is one of the most important things.

    Graphics performance is another critical factor. The cost of a computer plays a decisive role. A typical user is one who uses simple applications, including MS Office and so on. Intel 9 processors0003 8th generation are the best to date.

    9th generation processors are also good, but they are higher class. Category Y and U processors are not available in 9th generation chips. These processors are the least expensive of all.

    As for the 10th gen Intel processors, they are a great for advanced users doing video editing and more.

    The first processor in the line to feature six physical cores. The 14nm ++ process technology combined with this number of cores has led the processor to increase the performance of .

    The memory cache has also been updated here — 9 MB L3 instead of 6 MB. Such characteristics made it possible to obtain a high clock frequency with excellent overclocking performance.

    Moreover, the ease of overclocking favorably distinguishes the model from others, supporting performance up to 5. 2 GHz .

    Due to its technical characteristics, the processor is classified as a gaming one, and, despite this, it also differs by not the highest energy consumption rates.

    At standard frequencies, a standard air cooler will handle the cooling, but liquid cooling is recommended for overclocking .

    When combined with top-end graphics cards, it may slightly lag behind its sixth generation predecessors in performance, but this lag will not be significant.

    Specifications :

    • Socket: LGA1151 v2;
    • Gaming: yes;
    • Cores: 6;
    • Clock speed: 3600 MHz

    • Cores: 6;
    • Clock speed: 3300 MHz
    • Memory: DDR4 2666 MHz, 128 GB.
    Intel Core i5-10500

    The processor is one of the most popular due to its cost and performance . The 6-core, 12-thread CPU has sufficient clock speeds to overclock to 4.5 GHz, but the base overclocking multiplier cannot be used here.

    Based on Comet Lake architecture, provided with Hyper-Threading technology, L3 cache size is increased .

    Despite the limitation on the base multiplier, many other restrictions — for example, on power management — are removed here, which will allow fans of overclocking components to «play around».

    Optimal when using integrated graphics, the user will get high performance at the output, however, if you plan to connect an external video card, you should probably give preference to other versions, because the model does not have a modification without a graphics core.

    Specifications :

    • Gaming: yes;
    • Cores: 6;
    • Graphics: UHD 630, 1150 MHz;
    • Clock frequency: 3100 MHz;
    • Memory: DDR4 2666 MHz, 128 GB.
    Intel Core i5-10400

    Older models are more voracious and demanding on cooling, and against their background, the processor looks very worthy, and can be considered a full competitor to representatives of the Ryzen series.

    The original clock speed is not very high, but it can be overclocked to 4.3 GHz, supported by Turbo 2.0 technology.

    Support for Hyper-Threading has been added, making the processor more attractive than the previous generation. The model is available in two versions — with a semiconductor crystal stepping Q0 and G1.

    The first stepping is distinguished by low operating temperatures, here the effective internal thermal interface is used. The second option uses a polymeric internal interface, which is much more common.

    Despite the older Skylake architecture, the processor shows better results in tests even compared to older processors of the same series. Improved performance does not affect the price jump.

    Specifications :

    • Socket: LGA1151 v2;
    • Gaming: yes;
    • Cores: 6;
    • Clock speed: 3600 MHz
    • Memory: DDR4 2666 MHz, 64 GB.

    In tests, the processor performs slightly better than previous models, but is significantly behind the representatives of the i7 .

    At the same time, its power consumption is noticeably lower, but exceeds that of previous generations.

    Its energy efficiency is also not brilliant, this was a clear step backwards, but this may be due to the fight against vulnerabilities at the hardware level.

    Specifications :

    • Gaming: yes;
    • Graphics: UHD 630, 1150 MHz;
    • Cores: 6;
    • Clock frequency: 3700 MHz;
    • Memory: DDR4 2666 MHz, 64 GB.
    Intel Core i5-9600

    The ninth generation model was at one time the most advanced in its line due to high clock rates and the ability to overclock to 4.6 GHz .

    But even in 2021, the processor does not lag behind its top counterparts in terms of performance. More and more modern options are only a guarantee of performance for many years to come, the same processor will remain relevant for at least a couple more years.

    With a good video card, RAM performance and other technical equipment in modern games, will show itself in the best way.

    However, the model is demanding in terms of cooling due to high heat dissipation — either a very powerful air cooler or a direct liquid cooling installation is required.

    The latter is mandatory if you plan to overclock the processor.

    The eighth generation model can easily compete in performance even with the tenth generation .

    The heat dissipation at the standard frequency is low, an air cooler will be enough for cooling, but liquid cooling is recommended for overclocking.

    The energy consumption here is also very rational .

    In games, it performs at its best even in today’s demanding projects.

    Specifications :

    • Socket: LGA1151 v2;
    • Gaming: yes;
    • Cores: 6;
    • Clock speed: 3100 MHz
    • Memory: DDR4 2666 MHz, 64 GB.

    Which processor is better: Intel Core i3, i5 or i7?

    Several families stand out in the Intel Core line from i3 to i9.

    The number indicates the power of the device, but the i9 models are designed for heavy duty server or gaming PCs . For desktop options, i3 or i5 will be optimal, the i7 family already belongs to full-fledged gaming ones.

    What is its operating temperature?

    The operating temperature depends on the model and generation. In a calm state, the average temperature will be about 40 degrees, with simple processes in the form of watching videos or surfing the web, the limit of 40-50 degrees will be optimal.

    During gaming, the indicator can rise to 70 degrees, but not all models are configured to maintain such indicators for a long time .

    Generations of Intel Core i3, i5, i7 processors

    I recently heard that Intel Core i3, i5, i7 processors come in several versions or generations. How to determine which generation a particular processor belongs to so as not to buy junk?

    These marketing gurus convince everyone that the old must necessarily be worse. The so-called «junk» can sometimes be almost as good as speed. It is better to pay attention to the price / performance ratio. When it is possible to take a processor i5 2nd generation 3GHz or i3 3rd generation 2.5 for one price, then option 1 is better ? With compatibility, the main thing is not to miscalculate and everything will be fine. In general, look at the price and tests, not the age of the model. The first thing you should pay attention to is the number of physical (!) cores (preferably at least 4), then the frequency and bus, then the cache, and only then the generation.

    1156 it is better not to take even a second-hand socket, since it is rare. Few motherboards are for sale. Yes, and their performance is rather weak. 1155 running socket, there are many of them, but you should not take the P67 and H67 chipsets, since they first came with a serious error in the sata controller. You can take H61 and Z68, they seem to write about them that some are too simple for that error, while others have already been corrected.
