Intel CPU Windows 11 compatibility list

Only chips from Intel’s 8th generation or newer will be compatible with Windows 11. Think mid-2017 onward. The socket is used in entry-level and mid-level personal computers. The name LGA means spring-loaded contacts, of which there are 1151 pieces in this socket. There are two different types of processors for the LGA2066 platform — Kaby based processors Lake-X (Core i5/i7-76xx and 77xx) with a dual-channel memory controller and Skylake-X generation models (Core i5/i7-78xx and 79xx) with a 4-channel memory controller.

The LGA2066 platform is technically great, but that doesn’t mean any of the processors on the list above is worth buying. Because both motherboards and processors themselves are too expensive. And, if for the Core i9 for reasons of «the most powerful processor is the same!» sometimes it makes sense to overpay, then it is not advisable to buy Core i5 and Core i7 — it is more profitable to purchase the same ones based on the LGA1151v2 platform.

And the Core i9 will not work «for all the money» for all buyers. Because it reveals its potential only in tasks that can be «spread» over the maximum number of cores. And this is not always the case. It often happens that programs or games run faster when there are slightly fewer cores, but the frequency of each of them is higher. Also, remember that the 18-core Core i9-7980XE has a base frequency of only 2.6 GHz, so the 10-core Core i9-7900X with base 3.3 GHz will go faster.
