MSI GE63VR 7RE Raider — DAGeeks.com

When it comes to gaming laptops, the MSI brand is one of those brands that is not only visible, but has taken strides in providing us with an ample amount of choices in terms of gaming laptop options.

As for this experience, I was given the opportunity to play around with the GE63VR 7RE Raider for a short period.

The GE63VR 7RE Raider I got to experience has this specifications:

  • Processror: Core i7-7700HQ

As you can see, on paper, the GE63VR 7RE Raider carries within the mid-range specs for laptops these days. As it should, even with the laptop already pretty beat up when I got it, it was able to provide the optimum experience I expected for a laptop with the price tag that the MSI GE63VR 7RE Raider has.

I must say that the GE63VR 7RE Raider is pretty solid. Not only does the laptop have a premium feel with it’s finish, it feels solid enough that it can go through the day-to-day without problems.

The laptop is deceptively light since most of the weight will most probably be coming from the power brick so it was pretty heavy during whenever I was using it on the road (during commutes) or on locations which helped a lot most especially during presentations I had to use throughout the event.

Another build feature is that pleased me a lot was the Steel Series keyboard and the Audio the laptop had. Compared to other laptops on the same range that I personally experienced, the Raider’s is by far one of the laptops I’ve enjoyed typing on. The keys have a crisp click whenever I type on them and the adjustable RGB lighting makes typing during the night pretty psychedelic.

You can also just let the laptop run at night and enjoy the light show you can set the keyboard to have.

During the experience, I was able to play the laptop with these games and programs:

  • Program
    • Adobe Photoshop CC 2019
    • Filmora Video Editor (full)
  • Game
    • League of Legends

I told you I didn’t have the unit long enough right?

With the great keyboard, I can really say that the Raider provides more than just gaming. You can also have fun with it just doing work or chatting with friends or even doin presentations because the design itself is not overtly gaming.

During the experience, I was able to use the laptop with a bit of Photoshop, a bit of Filmora video editing and a lot of gaming with League of Legends. The time I had with the laptop wasn’t much so I wasn’t able to explore a lot of the options the laptop had. What bothered me a lot though during the experience was that the laptop had difficulty with a few photo edits during the time it was with me.

Meanwhile, the amount of activities I was able to do with the laptop using Filmora was also limited. Since during the period I had the laptop was mostly focused on just trimming and cutting videos, not so much in terms of the full-on editing task so it was manageable.

As expected, with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, I was able to run League of Legends at high settings without problems. The 120Hz monitor, while great, wasn’t something that I was able to play around much. But of course the images look crisp and clashes look awesome with the 15’6″ screen.

So far though, playing with the GE63VR 7RE Raider has been a fun experience.

One of the things I never expected to do in a laptop though is to prefer to use the on-board speakers instead of using my headset. The GE63VR 7RE Raider’s speaker not only provide quality music, but it also has enough to provide stellar audio quality even in games.

Based on the amount of time I was able to experience GE63VR 7RE Raider, I wish I had a fresher unit to experience. The laptop was able to deliver optimally what I expected from a mid-range laptop (SRP 99,995 php). Though there were obvious wear and tears on the laptop when I got it, it just goes to show that the MSI build with the GE63VR 7RE Raider is really solid to be able to still deliver such an experience.

The GE63VR 7RE Raider even with a hefty price tag provides what you can expect from a mid-range gaming laptop. It’s a good investment most especially for people looking to get more for their audio and keyboards than what is being offered in the market right now.
