AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT review: Nvidia wins this round
- Entertainment
Unless AMD actually sells them for $479, of course

AMD and Nvidia are pretending they live in a fantasy world, one where you can buy a state-of-the-art graphics card for under $700. Heck, a fantasy world where you can buy a new AMD GPU at all — though AMD has repeatedly promised it would stock additional RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards at its website for $579 and $649 respectively, I’ve seen no evidence the company has ever replenished those supplies since those cards first debuted four months ago.
Today, the company’s launching a GPU that might change that: the $479 Radeon RX 6700 XT. AMD tells The Verge it will have “significantly more GPUs available” when it goes on sale tomorrow morning. If that’s true — if this is the moment the clouds part, the GPU shortage recedes, and you can actually buy a RX 6700 XT for $479 for even a limited time — you absolutely should. It’s a solid performer at 1440p.
But amusingly, in the fantasy world where we’re pretending a $400 GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and $500 RTX 3070 still exist, the RX 6700 XT actually feels outgunned. It’s not the clear-cut Nvidia competitor you might have hoped for.
6Verge Score
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
$479
The Good
- Good 1440p performance in most of today’s games
- AMD says you’ll be able to buy this one
The Bad
- Slightly larger than Nvidia equivalents
- Worse ray tracing performance
- Still has 650W power supply requirement
- No DLSS equivalent
$479. 00 at AMD Direct
The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT comes with a simple pitch: a way to max out your 2560 x 1440 monitor with the latest games at maximum settings, all for $100 less than the RX 6800 I reviewed late last year. If that sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same playbook Nvidia used last fall, where its $400 RTX 3060 Ti undercut the $500 RTX 3070 by the same amount.
So in our fantasy world where those prices held, this would be the lay of the land:
Mid-range desktop gaming GPUs in 2021
$399 | Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti | Solid 1440p |
$479 | AMD RX 6700 XT | Maxed 1440p |
$499 | Nvidia RTX 3070 | Maxed 1440p / entry-level 4K |
$579 | AMD RX 6800 | Maxed 1440p / decent 4K |
Given those prices, I’d expect a $480 AMD card to soundly thrash a $400 Nvidia card. (That’s what the $580 Radeon RX 6800 did to the $500 RTX 3070, after all. ) I’d also expect it to be within spitting distance of the $500 Nvidia card if there were only a $20 bill between the two.
But running AMD’s card through my 15-game gauntlet on my own 1440p monitor, AMD’s new card sometimes lost to Nvidia’s 3060 Ti — sometimes by a lot — and it can even lose to Nvidia’s vanilla $329 RTX 3060 in tests where I had ray tracing turned on.

Frames per second; all games tested at highest graphical preset unless specified.
As you’ll see in the chart above, AMD does notch some wins, and in many cases lives up to its promise of maxed settings at 1440p. Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks glorious on my G-Sync / FreeSync monitor at an average 105 frames per second with all the eye candy turned up, and the difference between 120 frames and 114 frames in Call of Duty: Warzone at max settings (probably) isn’t worth quibbling about.
With a beefier processor, you should be able to get 60+ frames per second in a maxed-out Cyberpunk 2077 experience, too — I’m still testing with my old Core i7-7700K, which is more than good enough for most of the games on this list (SotR shows I’m 100 percent GPU-bound), but a few titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator and Cyberpunk are still notoriously CPU limited and more cores could help. As another example, my colleague Tom Warren saw identical framerates to me in Watch Dogs: Legion and Metro Exodus pairing the 6700 XT with a far newer Intel chip, but slightly higher in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Is that a 3060 Ti or 3070 on the left? Both can beat the RX 6700 XT in some games.
But look at Valheim. Look at Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Look at Control. How is AMD underperforming or merely tying these lower tier cards? Things aren’t any rosier at 4K resolution, in case you’re wondering: while I still recommend Nvidia’s 3070 for entry-level 4K, the 6700 XT just doesn’t have the same oomph. In games like Control and Metro Exodus, I had to drop the settings to a comparatively dull “low,” where the 3070 managed to play those games at 4K and medium-spec without trouble. And of course, AMD doesn’t yet have a DLSS competitor if you’re a fan of AI-upscaled resolution.
It’s not like AMD is winning in any other particular way, either. While I’m actually fond of the company’s new two-slot design (clearly inspired by a certain late 1960s muscle car) and I don’t hugely mind going from three to two axial fans, the RX 6700 XT is just as chunky and nearly as power-hungry as the RX 6800 (230W vs. 250W) without as much to show for it. AMD still recommends a 650W power supply, a pricey proposition for those of us with tall PC cases, and you’ll need both 6 and 8-pin PCIe connectors, while Nvidia’s comparable cards make do with a single 8-pin.
I also saw the 6700 XT hit 89 degrees Celsius on one occasion. While I don’t have enough evidence to say that’s a problem, I’ve yet to see Nvidia’s 3070 cross 82 degrees C even with my case fans unplugged.
But as I alluded to in my intro, very little of this will matter if you can actually find this card for $479.
All modern AMD and Nvidia cards have plenty of display support, with one HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPorts.
In December, I reported that the true street price of a $399 Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti was actually $675, and that the street price of an $499 RTX 3070 was actually $819. Those were the average prices people actually paid on eBay that month.
If you think that sounds unbelievable, hear this: the street price of the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 are now approaching $1,200 each. People are paying triple for what should have been Nvidia’s bang-for-the-buck graphics card now, and the launch of a “$329” RTX 3060 didn’t slow that at all.
To me, this indicates two things: First, AMD probably isn’t going to be able to make anywhere near enough RX 6700 XTs to hit anywhere near that $479 price for the vast majority of buyers, even if it produces “significantly” more cards. I wouldn’t expect today to play out any differently than any previous GPU launch since the pandemic began. It’s a well-established pattern now. Second, none of these fantasyland prices will necessarily keep the RX 6700 XT from being a hit if the supply is there. As you can see from the similar street prices for the 3060 Ti and 3070, the market has a way of balancing prices out.
If you miraculously see this card for its list price, buy it, because you won’t get anything better for anywhere near that price in the near future. But it feels inferior to every Nvidia GPU that can compare — and I wouldn’t trade my 3060 Ti for one.

AMD RX 6700 XT vs Nvidia RTX 3070: Full Comparison with Specs, Price, and More
As it seems, we might be coming out of the GPU shortage, and with that, it is time to start shopping for graphics cards again. Hopefully, now with reasonable pricing. Let’s look at the mid-range cards for the red and green brands. Nvidia is offering the RTX 3070, and AMD has the RX 6700 XT; in their own right, they are amazing cards and offer excellent performance. When it comes down to it though, most people can only buy one, so which one is your best option?
Let’s break down each of these cards separately for a bit. The AMD RX 6700 XT definitely doesn’t stand out as much as the RTX 3000 series, but it does offer excellent performance and, as long as everything continues to move in the right direction, a great price. AMD describes this card as “The new addition to the AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series family is engineered to deliver ultra-high frame rates and the ultimate 1440p gaming experience. Powering the next generation of games with a blend of raytracing, compute, and rasterized effects, the AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT graphics cards bring new levels of visual fidelity.” AMD also likes to tout that this architecture is behind the new generations of consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
RTX graphics cards, unlike AMD, use Tensor cores for their graphics cards.
The Nvidia RTX 3070 is part of the new family of RTX 3000 cards. It sits right in the middle of price to performance of this range, being topped out by the RTX 3090. So, I like to refer to it as the goldilocks card. It’s not overly expensive, and the performance is excellent as long as you are not trying to break any records. Nvidia describes this card as “The GeForce RTXTM 3070 Ti and RTX 3070 graphics cards are powered by Ampere—NVIDIA’s 2nd gen RTX architecture. Built with enhanced Ray Tracing Cores and Tensor Cores, new streaming multiprocessors, and high-speed memory, they give you the power you need to rip through the most demanding games.”

While the prices are getting better on both of these cards, they are still not back at their launch MSRP. Nvidia originally released the RTX 3070 in October 2020 at $500. Now, you can find it for around $600 if you want to buy a new one, or take a chance on a used one for as low as $450.
AMD released the RX 6700 XT in March 2021 at $475. Now, you can find it for as low as $499 new or used for as low as $330.
Gaming/ Creative Application Benchmarks
At the end of the day, price doesn’t mean a lot if the card doesn’t perform to its mark. The RTX 3070 outperforms its previous generation by 45% which is a pretty unprecedented jump considering that it was released at around the same MSRP as the 2070. In comparison, the RX 6700 XT outperforms its previous generation by 30%, still a respectable number. Most of the time, these numbers come from non-real-world benchmarks, so let’s look at a table comparing the two cards in some real-world benchmarks.
Besides Metro: Exodus, these results are neck and neck. We get a real difference when Ray Tracing is turned on. Nvidia cards now also sport a feature called DLSS or Deep Learning Super Sampling; this allows the GPU to boost the performance from 30%-50% without a loss in image quality. With DLSS being supported in more games and game engines, it is hard to recommend the 6700 XT strictly on gaming performance.
However, AMD does have an answer to DLSS. They call their’s FidelityFX Super Resolution or FSR for short; in typical AMD fashion, their acronyms are entirely nonsensical when read as the full name. While FSR is an impressive feature, unfortunately, at the time of writing, only 47 games support FSR, whereas over 150 support DLSS.

Gaming isn’t the end all be all when it comes to declaring a graphics card better than another. For example, using these cards in a workstation for video editing, photo editing, or 3D rendering is a great choice. Regarding video editing, Puget Systems, a reputable computer builder specializing in creators’ workstations, recommends sticking with Nvidia. Using Adobe Premiere, Nvidia GPUs see improved performance across the board than AMD. Take this with a grain of salt because that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Nvidia GPU is physically better than the AMD. A lot of video CODECs are more compatible with Nvidia architecture than AMD. When it comes to 3D rendering, I am taking benchmarks from Blender, specifically the BMW and Classroom Render.
Now, while the RTX 3070 does beat out the RX 6700 XT in these render tests, if you are coming from an older generation of GPU, these numbers are still quite impressive. With that being said, if you are building or upgrading your system to be your new creative workstation, it is probably best to go with the RTX 3070. Not only does it outperform in these tests, but as mentioned, Nvidia’s systems are more compatible with more programs than AMD’s

Something that is quickly growing as a feature to look for GPUs is the streaming capability. Nowadays, everyone and their grandmother are streaming in some way, whether that is on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. GPUs play a significant role in that process; OBS (Open Broadcast Software) offers GPU encoding for streaming and recording to take a load off your CPU. Nvidia has leaned into this market and has launched a whole streaming suite that comes along with their cards. Their proprietary encoder NVENC (Nvidia Encoder) claims to free up resources on your computer to be able to play triple-A games while still streaming full-quality at 1080p. While these tend to be more than just claims, the RTX 3070 does have a mid-range performance compared to its bigger siblings.
AMD does have an encoder; while it does perform well compared to x264 with a lower performance CPU, it does not hold a candle to NVENC, and it seems like AMD knows that. It looks like AMD is focusing on getting more raw performance out of their cards and then concentrating on the extra bits later, whereas Nvidia is now trying to see what else they can do. Something to keep in mind with both of these encoders is that, if you are just streaming your camera to hang out, they will outperform the x264 encoder handily. So, if you are a streamer that likes the chat and occasionally plays some light games, both AMD and Nvidia are going to give you similar results.

Let’s take a look at thermals and power consumption. For both cards, the TDP is around 220W under a gaming load. Of course, thermals are dependent on which version of the card you purchase. Still, for the gigabyte gaming OC model for each of these cards, the temperature averaged around 70℃, which is very respectable for both, so, if your primary concern is a quiet and cool machine, these cards will fit excellently.
If you are looking at these two cards for overclocking, they are not going to benefit noticeably. Pushing them both to their max overclock, which is unstable at best for both cards, you will see around a 10% gain in FPS. However, this may seem like a good size jump for these cards that already both perform well it won’t make a real-world difference for you.
In terms of IO for both cards, they are relatively similar to most modern cards, with three display ports and one HDMI 2.1 port. If you are an aesthetic person and want to show off your balling PC to all your friends, both of these cards feature tons of different designs from the usual round-up of GPU manufacturers. Although, if we are just comparing the two “founder’s” editions (I say founder’s in quotes because AMD does not have a brand name for their internally produced cards), I will lean toward the RTX 3070. The big future-looking brick goes well with anything you put next to it, while the RX 6700 XT from AMD looks like it could have come out six years ago and not look timeless. Now, keep in mind that this is just a personal preference. The look of it doesn’t affect the performance at all.
Conclusion
You can look at these stats all day long and still not make a decision, but ultimately these cards are both incredible feats of engineering, and now that the GPU shortage seems to be coming to an end, we should celebrate! You will enjoy playing new games and creating to your heart’s desire no matter which one of these you choose. If you have made it all the way down here, I have one request of you. Please don’t scalp or let your friends, family, coworkers, or even strangers scalp these cards; otherwise, we are going to have to keep talking about the “Great GPU Shortage” for years to come, and I, for one, want to buy a GPU at MSRP.

GeForce RTX 3060 Ti vs. Radeon RX 6700 XT
We recently compared the GeForce RTX 3070 against the Radeon RX 6700 XT in a 50 game head-to-head battle and the GeForce got the better of the exchanges. It was a close battle for the most part, but the RTX 3070 was faster and considering the feature set, it seemed like the way to go, assuming pricing is competitive.
Some readers were upset with that comparison though, claiming the 6700 XT was designed to compete with the RTX 3060 Ti, a comparison we were always going to make anyway.
Technically speaking, the 6700 XT is priced closer to the RTX 3070 based on MSRP. But no need to lose sleep over that one as today we have another 50 game benchmark comparing the RTX 3060 Ti and 6700 XT, so we can put that debate to rest.
The RTX 3060 Ti is meant to be available for $400 and the RTX 3070 for $500, with the 6700 XT at $480. Actual pricing is higher and all of these GPUs have been priced well over MSRP for the bulk of their existence.
As of writing, the RTX 3070 is closer to $750, while the 6700 XT is down at $600. A 25% price premium for the Nvidia GPU is steep, and a little hard to justify, even with the aid of DLSS and much better ray tracing performance.
If anything, that was a favorable matchup for AMD fans who were unhappy with the previous comparison. The RTX 3060 Ti is much more affordable than the RTX 3070 and slightly less than the 6700 XT at $570.
In a best case scenario for AMD, the 6700 XT and 3060 Ti occupy the same price point, so that being the case it will be interesting to see how they stack up across a massive range of games.
For testing we’ve used our AMD Ryzen 9 5950X test system with 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 dual-rank, dual-channel memory. Both GPUs were tested at 1080p, 1440p and 4K across 50 games, using Windows 11 with Resizable Bar enabled, that means SAM was enabled for the Radeon GPU.
The driver versions used were Radeon Adrenalin 22.3.1 and GeForce Game Ready Driver 512.15, as these were the latest available drivers when we started testing a week ago.
Let’s take a look at results for some of the highlight games and then we’ll check out how these two GPUs perform across all 50 games in a single comparison graph.
Benchmarks
Starting with Dying Light 2, the Radeon 6700 XT is slightly faster than the RTX 3060 Ti. We’re talking about an 8% margin at 1080p, 9% at 1440p, and 12% at 4K.
Usually we’d expect the margin to shrink in Nvidia’s favor at the higher resolutions, but that wasn’t the case in this game, though admittedly there’s little difference between an 8% and 12% margin. Strong performance from the 6700 XT, even if it didn’t blow the 3060 Ti away.
Next we have Total War Warhammer III, and here the results swing slightly in Nvidia’s favor with the RTX 3060 Ti offering 5% more frames at 1080p, 8% more at 1440p, and then 17% more at 4K, though neither GPU provided particularly playable performance at 4K.
If you’re after a 60 fps+ experience in this title using the ultra quality settings, then 1080p is the optimal resolution for this class of GPU, though we assume most of you would tune the quality settings for 60 fps at 1440p.
The 6700 XT performs really well in Call of Duty Warzone, pumping out well over 100 fps at 1080p and that made it 13% faster than the 3060 Ti. The Radeon GPU maintained the lead at 1440p and while not a massive difference, you will at times notice the extra 13% performance. Once again, neither are ideal for 4K gaming, with under 60 fps on average.
Forza Horizon 5 runs very well on Radeon GPUs, especially with Resizable Bar enabled. The 6700 XT enjoys a strong performance lead at 1080p and 1440p where it was 16% and 14% faster, respectively, and then at 4K the margins close right up and here the Radeon GPU was just 4% faster, so basically the same level of performance was seen at this high resolution.
The God of War results are very competitive. Here the RTX 3060 Ti was slightly faster at 1080p, then we saw the same performance at 1440p and 4K.
The 4K results were quite good and it wouldn’t take much to ensure frame rates stay above 60 fps on both camps.
Oh, boy, did Far Cry 6 stir the pot in our last benchmark. We mentioned how AMD fans didn’t like us comparing the 6700 XT against the RTX 3070, but then Nvidia radicals did not like us enabling the HD texture back in Far Cry 6 either.
Despite the fact that 6700 XT can deliver over 60 fps at 4K with HD textures enabled, we were told it’s highly unrealistic and we did that to make the GeForce GPU look bad.
Truth is, we’ve always tested games that offer HD texture packs with them enabled, especially when testing mid to high-end hardware. This was nothing new and HD textures shouldn’t impact performance assuming you have enough VRAM. It’s a free visual upgrade and for most gamers well worth using… again, if you have enough VRAM, which you should when spending $500+ on a graphics card.
Those playing Far Cry 6 at 1080p or 1440p with either the 6700 XT or RTX 3060 Ti need not worry about VRAM in this title, even with the HD texture pack, both worked really well despite the Radeon GPU offering up to 10% more performance. At 4K however, it does become a problem for the 3060 Ti as it’s unable to deliver playable performance, while the 6700 XT sailed along without issue thanks to its larger 12GB VRAM buffer.
In our opinion, 12GB VRAM should be the minimum at this price point. Bizarrely, Nvidia’s slower RTX 3060 (the non-Ti version) does pack a 12GB VRAM buffer. Go figure.
Moving on to F1 2021, this game enables ray tracing when using the ‘Ultra High’ quality preset, so we’ve left it enabled as we like to test with presets where possible.
This setting saw both GPUs render 116 fps on average at 1080p, but at 1440p the RTX 3060 Ti edged ahead by an 8% margin and then took a commanding lead at 4K by a 14% margin. Ideally, you’ll want to lower the visual quality settings to boost frame rates, but if you keep ray tracing enabled the GeForce will reign supreme.
Metro Exodus Enhanced is another title that enables ray tracing by default. In this particular case, RT hardware support is required to launch the ‘Enhanced’ version of the game.
This is a bad title for AMD with the RTX 3060 Ti dominating the 6700 XT, offering 27% more performance at 1080p, 31% more at 1440p, and then 40% more at 4K, though neither GPU was suitable at this resolution.
Moving on, we have Rainbow Six Extraction where performance is very similar. The 6700 XT was slightly faster at 1080p, then we see basically identical performance at 1440p, and at 4K the 3060 Ti nudged ahead, though performance overall was much the same.
Frame rates in Apex Legends were also similar, though the RTX 3060 Ti did provide the best performance at all tested resolutions. We’re only talking about a 4% difference at 1080p and 1440p with a 6% margin seen at 4K.
Fortnite’s chapter three, season two was recently released and with it a number of performance related issues. That said, the game now appears to be in a pretty good shape, though Radeon owners will want to make sure they’re running the game in the DX12 mode as it’s basically broken using DX11.
Typically, Fortnite gamers will want to opt for medium level quality settings for that competitive advantage, but doing so for a GPU comparison makes it more of a CPU benchmark. Also, scaling for Radeon and GeForce GPUs is very similar.
The 6700 XT did provide noticeably better frame time performance with the latest update and this was evident at 1080p. Even at 1440p, the 1% lows were 25% higher using the 6700 XT which is a significant margin. By the time we reach 4K though any and all performance differences were neutralized.
Cyberpunk 2077 is another competitive title for the RTX 3060 Ti and 6700 XT. The Radeon GPU was a whisker faster at 1080p and 1440p, but the margins aren’t worth getting excited over. Performance was basically the same as you won’t be able to tell the difference between 87 and 91 fps.
Performance Summary
Based on the dozen or so games we just looked at, the RTX 3060 Ti and 6700 XT appear to be very close in terms of performance. There were a few titles that did heavily favor one over the other, but for the most part performance was similar.
We did spend a week testing through 50 games, so let’s go check out that data…
Starting with the 1080p expanded benchmark data, we see that the RTX 3060 Ti was just 2% slower on average across the 50 games tested. The big wins for Nvidia came in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Warhammer Vermintide 2, War Thunder and Resident Evil Village. For AMD, the 6700 XT was most dominant in Sniper Elite 4, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Horizon Zero Dawn, Borderlands 3, Forza Horizon 5, Warzone and The Division 2.
Moving to 1440p, we found a tie between the 6700 XT and RTX 3060 Ti, though that hardly means they delivered the same performance across all titles. It simply signals the margins are balanced out overall.
Of the 50 games tested, the margin was less than 10% in either direction for 39 of them. Then for 22 of the games tested the margin was 5% or less which we deem a tie.
The only outlier was Metro Exodus, the rest of the games were within a 14% margin. For those gaming at 1440p, the 6700 XT and 3060 Ti will deliver a similar experience overall.
For those gaming at 4K, the results are a little more interesting as the RTX 3060 Ti is typically faster unless you run out of VRAM. This only happened on a single game we tested though we’ve also seen this in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and to an extent Doom using the highest quality settings. Besides Metro Exodus, Nvidia enjoyed solid wins in Vermintide 2, Warhammer III, PUBG, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and Star Wars Jedi Fallen order.
Who Wins?
This comparison is as straightforward as they come. The only advantage the Radeon RX 6700 XT has over the RTX 3060 Ti right now is the larger VRAM buffer, jumping from 8GB to 12GB. This is an advantage that will certainly serve the 6700 XT well in the future, but right now there are very few instances where VRAM becomes relevant in terms of raw performance output.
In other words, this is not an issue for the RTX 3060 Ti, and where it might be, the workaround is easy to apply and doesn’t impact visuals significantly.
While we’d have preferred the RTX 3060 Ti to pack more VRAM, it’s got enough to get the job done. The advantages of the RTX 3060 Ti include superior ray tracing performance — which personally I don’t care for too much at this performance tier — but still you can enjoy RT effects if you want, typically at much higher frame rates than you’ll get with the 6700 XT.
The RTX 3060 Ti also supports DLSS which is a key advantage at the moment. AMD is now hard at work to reduce its significance, but they’ve still got some way to go.
It’s possible DLSS won’t be a critical feature in a few years, but we never like to heavily weigh our recommendations on what could be, rather we prefer to focus on the here and now, and right now DLSS is a strong selling point of GeForce RTX GPUs.
With rasterization performance essentially the same, we don’t see many reasons for buying the 6700 XT over the RTX 3060 Ti, especially when the GeForce GPU costs the same or even a little less.
We’re still tracking GPU pricing closely and our recommendation remains to hold out a little longer before making any purchase if possible. But if you want to buy right now, and have ~$600 to spend, we’d go for the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT vs Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti: Which GPU is better?
The Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti is one of the most affordable 30-Series graphics cards available right now, offering solid ray tracing performance at 1080p. But, how does it compare to the similarly priced AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT?
The RX 6700 XT launched earlier this year, and is currently the cheapest RDNA 2 graphics card in AMD’s lineup. It targets a slightly higher 1440p resolution and features ray tracing, but is also noticeably more expensive than the RTX 3060 Ti.
So, how does the RX 6700 XT compare with the RTX 3060 Ti? Read on to discover what the two graphics cards have in common – and how they differ from each other.
Price and availability
The RTX 3060 Ti has the lower RRP of the two GPUs at £369 to the RX 6700 XT’s £419.99 price. That makes the RTX 3060 Ti just £50 cheaper.
However, you’ll likely struggle to find these graphics cards at their original prices due to the current silicon shortage. Many models are sold out, reselling at higher prices, so you may find the AMD card for less depending on availability.
Specs and features
The RX 6700 XT is based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, which is the latest offering from the brand and supports features such as ray tracing. The RTX 3060 Ti, on the other hand, is based on Nvidia’s Ampere architecture.
The RX 6700 XT has a boost frequency of 2.6GHz and a base frequency of 2.3GHz. The RTX 3060 Ti has a boost clock speed of 1.67GHz and a base clock speed of 1.41GHz, making the AMD GPU noticeably faster here.
However, the RX 6700 XT also has a higher recommended system power of 650W when compared to the RTX 3060 Ti’s 600W. The AMD card also features 12GB GDDR6 memory, while the RTX 3060 Ti sports 8GB GDDR6 memory.
When it comes to features, the RTX 3060 Ti offers support for both ray tracing and DLSS. The former is a light-rendering technology that creates more realistic light, reflections and shadows, while the latter can boost frame rates and improve image quality using AI.
The RX 6700 XT also supports ray tracing, but won’t work with DLSS since it’s an Nvidia technology. However, it will work with FSR (Fidelity FX Super Resolution) instead, which does a very similar job.
Performance
As far as performance is concerned, the RX 6700 XT is designed for Quad HD and Full HD gaming, which means it isn’t quite powerful enough to handle modern AAA games in 4K.
We found the AMD GPU performed well in Horizon Zero Dawn, reaching 116fps in Full HD and 94fps in Quad HD; but it dropped to 49fps in 4K. While running The Division 2, the GPU managed to reach 126fps in Full HD, 84fps in Quad HD and 43fps in 4K.

Meanwhile, the RTX 3060 Ti is designed to support 1080p Full HD gaming for those who aren’t interested in paying for 4K support.
To compare the RTX 3060 Ti with the RX 6700 XT directly, the GPU hit 101fps in Full HD, 86fps in Quad HD and 54fps in 4K for Horizon Zero Dawn. And for The Division 2, the Nvidia GPU can hit 128fps in Full HD, 87fps in Quad HD and 46fps in 4K running The Division 2.
There really isn’t much difference between these two graphics cards in terms of performance, although the RX 6700 XT does seem to have the edge for games such as Borderlands 3 and Doom Eternal. You can see the full breakdown by checking out our AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT review.
Verdict
The Radeon RX 6700 XT and Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti are both great graphics cards, excelling at Full HD and Quad HD resolutions, while also being able to hit 4K with less demanding games.
The Radeon RX 6700 XT seems to have a slight advantage in terms of performance power, with slightly better results in our gaming benchmarks. But the RTX 3060 Ti features DLSS which can close the gap without compromising on visual quality with select games.
Ultimately, it comes down to what price you’re able to buy the graphics card for. The RTX 3060 Ti has the cheaper RRP, making it a better value option, but it may well be the case that the AMD is cheaper due to the price fluctuations caused by the silicon shortage.

AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT review —
graphics card review The 6750 XT is a new graphics card that is an overclocked AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with faster memory. The core clock has increased by 19MHz and the memory bandwidth has increased by 12.5% over last year’s RX 6700 XT. The increase in board power was 9% up to 180 W. The retail price has also gone up, from $480 to $550.
MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio and Sapphire Radeon RX 6750 XT Nitro+ were taken for testing. All AMD and Nvidia graphics cards have been tested at official clock speeds, so no factory overclocking is required. All data was collected using a Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor with 32GB dual rank DDR4-3200 CL14 dual channel memory on an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard using the latest BIOS that supports AGESA 1207.
The RX 6750 XT is expected to cost $570, making it very close to the RTX 3060 Ti in terms of price, and it’s 8% faster in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction. Compared to the RTX 3070, it’s only 2% slower, but we estimate it’s about 19% cheaper.
Even so, the RX 6750 XT is only 7% faster than the RX 6700 XT, so a 15% price increase isn’t exactly what you’d expect.
NVIDIA GeForce cards perform better at 1440p, where the RX 6750 XT can only match the 3060 Ti, while the RTX 3070 is 13% faster. Most disappointing is that the RX 6750 XT is only 4% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
In resolution, things change again, the RX 6750 XT is 8% faster than the RX 6700 XT and again equals the RTX 3060 Ti, this time only 5% slower than the RTX 3070.
Watch Dogs : Legion
Watch Dogs: Legion RX 6750 XT is impressive compared to GeForce graphics cards, though not impressive compared to RX 6700 XT as it was only 4% faster. It was also faster than the RTX 3070 at 22% faster.
The gap narrowed at 1440p, but the RX 6750 XT was still 13% faster than the RTX 3070, which is a great result considering how much cheaper it is.
As usual, Nvidia’s Ampere architecture is much better used at 4K resolution, while the reverse is true for RNDA2. As a result, the RTX 3070 now matches the RX 6750 XT, which was 6% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p, the RX 6750 XT performed well with 139
At 1440p, the RX 6750 XT gained a 9% lead over the RX 6700 XT to keep it on par with the RTX 3070
At 4K, the RTX 3070 takes the lead as the RX 6750 XT is 5% behind and is now on par with the RTX 3060 Ti. It was only 8% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
The Outer Worlds
As with many Unreal Engine 4 games, this game favors NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Therefore, even the RTX 3060 Ti was faster than the RX 6750 XT, which was only 7% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
At 1440p, the situation is even more in favor of NVIDIA cards. The RX 6750 XT is now 6% slower than the RTX 3060 Ti and 14% slower than the RTX 3070. However, it was 7% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
At 4K resolution, the GeForce cards are further behind, and the RX 6750 XT is now 7% slower than the RTX 3060 Ti and 18% slower than the RTX 3070. Unfortunately, the faster GDDR6 memory didn’t help it much, as we see only a 4% lead over the RX 6700 XT.
F1 2021
In F1 2021 at 1080p, the RX 6750 XT was only 5% slower than the RTX 3070 and 7% faster than the RX 6700 XT and RTX 3060 Ti it was 7% slower than the RTX 3070, 3% faster than the 3060 Ti, and 9% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
The 4K results are very different: here even the RTX 3060 Ti is slightly faster than the RX 6750 XT, and the RTX 3070 is 20% faster. Meanwhile, the RX 6750 XT was only 5% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
Power consumption
A quick look at total power consumption shows that the system with the RX 6700 XT was drawing 336 watts, and the RX 6750 XT increased the system power consumption by 13%, which is a significant increase, considering not a huge increase in performance. However, compared to the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070, the power consumption of the RX 6750 XT is normal.
Average FPS in 11 games
In terms of performance, the Radeon RX 6750 XT looks good compared to the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 in several of the games we just reviewed, but the lead over the RX 6700 XT isn’t impressive.
Starting at 1080p, the RX 6750 XT is 6% faster than the RX 6700 XT, which isn’t great given the 15% price increase. It’s slightly faster than the much more expensive RTX 3070 and only slightly slower than the even more expensive RTX 3070 Ti.
However, the RX 6700 XT is obviously a better option given the MSRP, especially since you can simply overclock it yourself to the performance of the RX 6750 XT
At 1440p, the RX 6750 XT and RTX 3070 perform the same, while the RX 6750 XT is 5% faster than the RX 6700 XT.
Then in 4K, the RX 6750 XT was 6% faster than the RX 6700 XT and 6% slower than the RTX 3070.
