What Is a CRAC Unit? Computer Room Air Conditioning Monitoring

Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) are cooling units for computer rooms. As the equipment in your computer room becomes more complex and compact, computer rooms are watching their power draw and heat generation quickly rise. The increase in computer room power consumption, density, and heat generation requires a more exact approach to a computer or IT room air conditioning design than ever before.

Computer equipment room or data center cooling used to be a relatively painless affair. When data centers were using less power and generating less heat per square foot, a technician or administrator could simply offset the heat from equipment with additional CRAC units. Simply pumping cold air in the room was enough of a cooling solution to bring down the temperature.

Download the HVAC Monitoring Tutorial PDF

Now, however, that proves to be a feeble way to cool your computer room. Hot air is generated by computer room equipment quickly. Simply turning the thermostat down doesn’t offer the cooling you need to safeguard your equipment. Cool air distribution must occur to ensure that heat is displaced.

Keeping the Modern Computer Room Cool

To achieve an effective computer air conditioning system, many technicians are placing racks in hot and cold configurations.

They place their computers and racks on raised floors, two tiles apart, with their air intakes facing each other. The CRAC cooling system pumps cool air through perforated floor tiles between the racks, the computers and racks intake the cool air and exhaust hot air into the opposing hot aisle. Computer room air conditioning units on the floor then pull in the hot air exhausted into the hot aisles, and release it underneath the floor tiles, completing the cycle.

In this way, a CRAC unit air handler can keep cool air running through the system and help keep a steady airflow through the environment.

It’s even become common to take advantage of the space above computers and racks and make another «hot aisle» of the room’s ceiling, where heat normally escapes and hovers. To keep the whole computer room cool, technicians advocate turning the area above racks into a hot air plenum by placing ducts and more CRAC units. Hot air escapes into the plenum to be pushed back into the system, below the floor, where it can be cooled and released back into the system.

This works for your computer room by removing hot air from the data center. Bringing in more hot return-air helps the heat exchangers in the CRAC units produce colder air to pump out to the computer room floor.

Monitoring Devices for Your Modern Computer Room

Of course, monitoring the quality of the air conditioning in the computer room means much more than simply monitoring the CRAC unit components themselves. Even if they’re working, there’s no guarantee that the cool air they pump into the environment is making it to your equipment. And since there’s no guarantee of homogenized equipment across the computer room, it’s likely that you’ll have hot and cold spots.

There are two main things you’ll have to check to ensure that your CRAC units are working properly and keeping your computer room cool. First, you’ll have to check the airflow both above and below the floor. Then, you’ll have to check the air temperature throughout the room to find which areas are hot and which areas are cold. Fortunately, there are a number of small devices that can fit in line with your computers and monitor your computer room’s environment.

The TempDefender RTU

DPS Telecom’s TempDefender is specially designed to monitor conditions in your computer room. This small, rack-mountable RTU connects to up to 16 analog sensors. These sensors measure the temperature, humidity, airflow, smoke, or any other conditions you may be worried about in your server room.

Sensors for the TempDefender are daisy-chainable via RJ-11 connectors and can be assembled in any configuration. This allows you to run a set of sensors through your server room without running 16 cables in parallel from your room, all the way back to your TempDefender. You can run sensors from a temp defender to monitor airflow in your hot aisles and hot and cold spots, and humidity at the return air space, all from one RTU.

TempDefender monitors your computer room cooling system to ensure the safety of your equipment and optimal operating conditions. Preventing hardware failures and shutdowns due to poor data center conditions keep costs down.

The TempDefender also has 8 dry contact alarms and 3 control relays. This way you can augment monitoring and remote control for devices inside your cabinet. Or, mount your temp defender near your CRAC unit HVAC equipment and monitor both environment and HVAC equipment for failures.

A computer room is a delicate environment, and you don’t want to babysit a bunch of computers and air conditioners. When TempDefender measures a threshold alarm for any of the environmental factors it’s monitoring, it can send a trap to your master station or email you directly. It also has an intuitive web interface, so you can see what’s going on in your data center in real-time.

NetGuardian 216: Making Sure CRAC Units Perform at the Equipment Level

Of course, you don’t have to monitor your whole data center with one device or even run sensors throughout the data center. Hot, cold, and humid spots will appear throughout the room naturally. That’s because varying equipment will emit varying amounts of hot air, and because air is simply a hard element to control. You could simply install monitoring devices individually with your cabinets, so you can monitor every individual cabinet, thereby giving you a good overall view of the computer room environment.

DPS Telecom recommends the NetGuardian 216 device for this sort of application because it has both dry contacts and analog inputs. The dry contacts are used to monitor the data center equipment in your cabinets, and four analog inputs are used to measure the environment inside or just outside your cabinet.

Computer room cooling requires a strategic plan and a large amount of environmental data. However, getting the data you need to maximize cooling in your computer room doesn’t have to be hard. The TempDefender and the NetGuardian series remotes are perfectly equipped to handle analog and discrete coverage within the computer room, giving you the information you need to keep your computer room cool.

What Is a Smart Air Conditioner?

To be considered smart, an air conditioner needs to have a Wi-Fi radio so it can connect to an app, allowing you to control and monitor it from your phone or tablet. No matter where you are, smart air conditioners let you do things like adjust the target temperature, change the fan speed, and turn them on and off. Many also let you set a cooling schedule, so they will kick on at a designated time. And some offer support for Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant voice commands.

Some models even offer energy usage reports, and can use your phone’s location services to cool down rooms before you arrive. That way, you’re not wasting energy—and money—cooling an empty room when you aren’t there.

How Do I Calculate What Size Air Conditioner I Need?

Before purchasing any air conditioner, it’s important to figure out what size unit you need. If it’s too small, it will have to work harder to reach the target temperature, wasting energy. If it’s too big, it will cool the room before sucking out moisture, leaving you feeling clammy.

Figuring out the correct size AC for your room involves some math, but it’s pretty easy. First, measure the length and width of the room you want to cool, then multiply those numbers to calculate the square footage.

In general, you want 20 to 25 British Thermal Units (BTUs) of cooling power for every square foot. So, multiply the square footage of your room by 20 to get the minimum size air conditioner that will work in your space. If your room is 500 square feet, for instance, you’ll want an air conditioner with 10,000 BTUs. If you have high ceilings and large windows, you may need more cooling power.

Energy Star recommends(Opens in a new window) increasing capacity by 10 percent if the room is very sunny, reducing it by 10 percent if it’s heavily shaded, adding 600 BTUs if more than two people regularly occupy the room, and increasing capacity by 4,000 BTUs if the unit is located in a kitchen.

Which Is Better, Portable or Window Air Conditioners?

When selecting a smart air conditioner, you’ll need to decide whether you want a portable or window unit. Both have their pros and cons. Portable units can be moved from room to room, but they take up floor space, and require a bulky exhaust hose. Window units can be a pain to install and block out your view, but are far more discreet than portable units.

Another option is to purchase a retrofit device to make your basic air conditioner smart. If you already have a working AC, you might want to consider a device like the Sensibo Sky, which brings remote phone control and other connected features to your old traditional unit. It works with various types of ACs, and was easy to install in our testing.

Meanwhile, if you need something to keep you cool without necessarily bringing down the temperature in an entire room, you might want to consider a device like the Evapolar Personal Air Cooler. It’s not an air conditioner, but it keeps you comfortable using evaporative cooling, and it doubles as a humidifier. It’s perfect for hot, dry office buildings.

It is one thing when your air conditioning does not work properly at home, but quite another when it does not work at optimal levels in a computer center in a company. As an IT facilities manager, you should know that a PC air conditioning system for a high-performance data center is essential for business success.

Is air conditioning bad for electronics? No. Proper air conditioning will end the problem of dealing with high temperatures, as they stabilize the climate by leaving a cool environment. The PC air conditioning must be powerful and according to the space to be heated. The recommended optimum temperature is 20 to 25 °C for comfort.

Suppose the environment exceeds 26 °C, the risks of system collapse increase. If the room cannot be ventilated on days of 30 °C, it is advisable to switch off or use the equipment as little as possible.

The importance of an air conditioner in a computer room

For a computer room to function properly, monitors and humidity control options should be considered, regardless of your structure’s unique requirements. Among the advantages are:

1. Data and equipment protection

You can rest assured that your hardware and software will be protected to the maximum extent possible by keeping cool air circulated according to your space’s needs.

2. System longevity and productivity are increased

Maintaining optimal cool temperatures in computer systems can improve performance, reduce wear and tear, and significantly improve the system’s life.

3. It reduced humidity levels to an optimal level

With the right cooling system, you won’t have to worry about humidity, even more, dangerous than heat.

4. The comfort of workers

For workers to remain healthy and productive, even more importance must be placed on the employees who work closely with the computers and devices.

Why are computer labs air-conditioned

Computer labs with air conditioning serve more than cool computers; they also control dust in the labs. A build-up of dust and fibers in the processor blocks its heat dissipation, resulting in excessive heat. The processor tripped on overheating as a result. The power supply fan is incapable of dissipating heat, and other parts in the computer could also malfunction if there is too much dust.

Does an air conditioner reduce dust in the computer system

Water and electricity don’t mix, as you were probably taught in elementary first aid or science classes or experienced firsthand. When exposed to high humidity consistently, computer components become corroded and eventually fail.

Your computer can short-circuit if it produces condensation due to the high humidity inside. You may lose data, and some computer components could be damaged if your computer shorts out. In a computer room, the humidity level should be kept between 45 and 60%.

Mini air conditioner for PC

Mini air conditioners” or personal air coolers work by pulling hot air from your room and pumping it through the cool water in their tanks to take on the cooling effect. It works by reducing the overall heat in the room that way. Evaporative mini coolers are more affordable.

As you realize, not only was the purchase price of your air conditioning unit high but using it was also expensive. Imagine if you could keep your cool while saving money?

This is just a personal cooling unit in the form of a mini air conditioner. Although they cannot keep your entire home cool, these compact devices are perfect for smaller spaces and PCs.

NexTherm air-conditioned PC case

Despite not being flashy, this case boasts something unique: its air conditioning! The case illustrates this unique concept very well. In this case, there is no intake fan, but it uses an air conditioning unit, and a PC AIRCON 120W controls the cooling. In other words, you will have much lower temperatures than you would with a normal case.

The NexTherm case comes with a handy display that shows the temperature of two thermal probes placed anywhere and how much power the air conditioner is drawing. Additionally, this serious case is tool-less and has its front panel connectors on the top for ease of access.

What does the CRAC unit stand for

CRAC unit stands for computer room air conditioning. Datacenter and network rooms use (CRAC) units to monitor and maintain temperatures, air distribution, and humidity.

How does a CRAC unit work

In a computer room, there is usually an air conditioning unit, which is a device that monitors the temperature and humidity in a computer room and the distribution of air in the room. The central system of your home’s air ducts draws warm air in from the furnace or air handler.

During cooling, air passes over an evaporator coil, usually located on top of your furnace. As heat is removed from the coil, it is absorbed by the refrigerant. Refrigerant is then pumped from the compressor to the condenser, the part of your air conditioner outside your home. This heat is released into the outside air, cooling the refrigerant, then sent back inside the house to begin the process again.

Difference between CRAC and CRAH units

A data center’s air handlers (CRAHs) are often used to deal with the heat produced by the equipment. Instead of a computer room air conditioning unit (CRAC) that uses mechanical cooling to cool incoming air in the data center, CRAHs use fans, cooling coils, and water chillers to remove hot air.

Does mining need an air conditioning system

The answer is yes. The purpose of conditioning the mine air by imparting greater cooling capacity to counteract adverse environmental thermal conditions is when ventilation cannot maintain adequate environmental thermal conditions.

When choosing an air conditioning system, the following data must be known and established: physiological, surface meteorological, geological, production and ventilation parameters.

If refrigeration is necessary, it should be done in three phases. In the first phase, the water must be cooled to the lowest possible temperature. In the second phase, the air entering the mine is cooled to compensate for the effects of humid summer air and heat sources in the shaft system. Finally, in the third phase, the ventilation air is cooled again from time to time in the recesses using coils with chilled water.

What is CRAC? CRAC vs. CRAH Unit Differences

What is a computer room air conditioning (CRAC) unit?

A computer room air conditioning (CRAC) unit is a device that monitors and maintains the temperature, air distribution and humidity in a data center, network or server room. CRAC units replace the air-conditioning units used in the past to cool data centers. By comparison, CRAC systems have better air filtration, better humidity control mechanisms and higher airflow than typical AC systems.

CRAC units help prevent low humidity and water vapor from forming. Low humidity can cause static electricity buildup, which can damage electronics, and water vapor buildup, which can cause short circuits and corrode equipment.

CRAC units work via a refrigeration cycle where air is blown over a cooling coil filled with refrigerant. Refrigerant in the cooling coil is kept cold by a compressor. Excess heat is expelled as air, water or a glycol mixture. Older CRAC units can only turn on and off, while newer units enable different airflow variations.

There are a variety of ways that CRAC units can be situated. One popular CRAC setup is having cooling air dispensed through an elevated floor. Also called raised flooring, the cooled air rises through the perforated floor sections, forming cold aisles. The cold air flows through the racks, where it picks up heat before exiting from the rear of the racks. The warm exit air forms hot aisles behind the racks, and the hot air returns to the CRAC intakes, which are positioned above the floor.

Raised floor cooling in data centers forces cool airflow upward through the floor, up past servers and into a CRAC intake where the air is cooled.

Components of a CRAC unit

CRAC units include the following components:

  • Refrigerant. This is a chemical compound that is used as a coolant in CRAC and air conditioners.
  • Cooling coils. Also called evaporator coils, refrigerant flows through the cooling coils to cool the air.
  • Compressors. This keeps the refrigerant running through the coil cool.
  • Air filters. These help catch the accumulation of dirt or dust that travels through a CRAC unit.
  • Electronically commutated (EC) fans. EC fans blow cool air while producing less heat with high efficiency.
  • Humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Although these are optional in CRAC systems, humidifiers increase the amount of moisture in the air, while dehumidifiers remove water vapor from the air.

What are the differences between CRAC and CRAH units?

Computer room air handler (CRAH) units are another data center cooling device. The main difference between CRAH and CRAC units is how they cool their surrounding environments. CRAC units use both refrigerants and compressors, while CRAH units use chilled water and control valves.

CRAH units use fans to blow air over cooling coils. Instead of the coils being filled with refrigerant, however, they’re filled with chilled water. Warm air from the data center room is drawn back into the CRAH unit, passing over the chilled water coils. The heat transfers from the air to the water, where the water then returns to a chiller.

Because CRAH units don’t need a compressor, they use less energy and are more efficient when compared to CRAC units. This makes CRAH units more suitable for sustainable data centers.

CRAC units are ideal for data centers with electrical loads of 200 kilowatts (kW) or less. Meanwhile, CRAH units are designed for data centers with electrical loads of 200 kW or more. CRAH units are also ideal for environments with higher availability requirements.

Is Your Equipment at Risk?

It’s one thing when your air conditioner is not working properly at home, but it’s quite another thing when the air conditioning system is not performing at optimal levels at a business where computers are at the core of the operation. As a facility manager, you know a top-performing computer room air conditioning system is essential to commercial success. So let’s take a look at what can happen if the computer room air conditioning is not functioning at a high level.

The two H’s that can hurt computer operations: Heat & Humidity

Heat
Has your computer ever operated at an annoyingly slow rate or randomly shut down when you are in the middle of an important work-related task? A computer working at a glacial pace or shutting down unexpectedly could be the result of overheating. Such technological events can slow down business or bring it to a halt altogether, which will not make a business owner or employees happy.

The electronic components inside a computer operate at a certain current produced by low voltage. Even a small voltage fluctuation can have a deleterious effect on the computer’s components. The computer’s central processing unit (CPU), which carries out the instructions of a computer program, is the most vulnerable to overheating. The computer’s motherboard, also known as a mainboard, which provides for communication among the different electronic components, has a temperature sensor and will instruct the CPU and other components such as the hard drive to slow down or shut down if overheating continues.

Humidity
As you probably learned in an elementary first aid or science class or through an unfortunate firsthand experience, water and electricity don’t mix. When they do it can yield painful results. Computer components exposed to extreme humidity on a consistent basis can corrode and eventually break down. If high humidity inside your computer produces condensation, your computer could short-circuit. If your computer short-circuits, you could lose data and damage could occur to some computer components. Humidity levels should be kept between 45 and 60-percent, which should be easily attainable if you have a properly designed and maintained computer room air conditioning.

Computer room air conditioning choices

As a facility manager with so many responsibilities, you can’t be expected to be an HVAC expert, too. As you probably know, there are many choices to be made to meet the specialized climate needs for computer server room air conditioning and computer room air conditioning, sometimes referred to as CRAC.

CRAC crash course

More sophisticated computer room air conditioning units have replaced the air conditioning technology that was used to cool data rooms in the past. These computer room air conditioning units are more technologically advanced and do more than just control climate. These units are capable of maintaining and monitoring temperature, humidity and airflow.

Traditionally, computer room air conditioning and server room air conditioning have been room-based cooling, providing the entire room with cool air from centralized units at one end. This type of setup usually serves low density areas. Density is measured by peak kilowatt load. The Association for Computer Operations Management (AFCOM) tiers density into four ranges – low is considered up to 4kW per rack; medium from 5kW to 8kW; high from 8kW to 15kW; and extreme, more than 16 kW per rack.

One design for computer room air conditioning is to position the CRAC units around the perimeter of the computer room. In this design, the devices pull air from the top of the room, cool the air, push the air downward and release it through an elevated perforated floor, which forms a cold aisle. The cold air gets sucked into the servers, where heat is picked up from the server components. The heated air is released out the rear of the server racks, which forms a hot aisle. The heated air returns to the CRAC intakes where a plenum, which is an air distribution box, will process the hot air.

Rack them up or row them

With a row-oriented computer room design, the CRAC units are committed to a row of computer equipment. The CRAC units can be mounted among the information technology (IT) racks, above the racks or mounted under the floor. A row-based cooling solution has shorter and more defined airflow paths than a room-based system. A row-oriented design is used in both high and extremely high density areas.

Though similar to a row-based design, in a rack-based design, air conditioner devices are located even closer to the IT devices that need cooling. The airflow paths are more precise and target a specific equipment rack.

Smaller business? Ductless might be a good solution for server room air conditioning

Whether your small business is located in a NYC skyscraper or in a smaller building, a ductless air conditioning system might be a good choice. If you are a tenant in a multi-story building, the building might be served by a base system, but that base system might not totally serve your unique needs. Sometimes base systems only supply optimum air conditioning during normal business hours and not on weekends. Your business might require computer room air conditioning around the clock with no weekends off. In this case a supplemental system might be a solution.

Learn more:
Ducted air conditioning unit vs ductless: What’s best for you?
Ductless AC System? NYC: Think VRF for Comfort & Efficiency

A popular choice is called a ductless split system. These systems have a condensing and compressor unit usually located outdoors (or in a mechanical room if space permits) and an evaporator coil and air handling unit, located indoors. There is a lot of flexibility for the location of the indoor units, which can be mounted on walls or ceilings. These units are independently controlled, which promotes energy efficiency. The small size of these units combined with the fact that ducts are not required makes them a good computer room air conditioning fit for a small data room.

Download the Daichi apps from the App Store or Google Play and your phone will turn into a centerpiece
intelligent remote control for the entire air conditioning system at home.

In addition, you will receive
access to control using your PC through a web browser.

Many are accustomed to control the air conditioner using the remote control. But often the remote controls of the air conditioner
get lost, wall controls clutter up the wall, and usually the remote control can only be operated from the room,
in which there is an air conditioner.

It is much more convenient to have access to the air conditioner from anywhere in the world and
control it using a device that is always at hand: mobile phone, tablet or laptop.
Would you also like to have «smart control» that takes into account your preferences, remembers your favorite modes
and accepts voice commands?

Install Daichi controller in your air conditioner and download free
Daichi Comfort (X) apps from the AppStore or GooglePlay. With the Mobile Control program, your phone,
tablet or PC will turn into a central intelligent control panel for the entire air conditioning system
at home.

Benefits of mobile/web control over conventional remote control

Ability to manage via the Internet from anywhere in the world

Since the control is carried out via the Internet, you do not have to be near the air conditioner,
to manage it.

For example, after leaving the house, you remember that you forgot to turn off the air conditioner —
you can do it at any time. You can set the temperature in one room, say the bedroom
child without leaving your room.

Moreover, for distant objects, such as a dacha,
which you visit on weekends, you can set the weekly schedule so that the mode is
economical, but the house did not warm up on weekdays, and in case of cool weather, transfer
air conditioners in heating mode or turn them off.

One application — all objects and all premises

It often happens that the equipment is installed at many facilities owned by the same owner (apartment,
country house, etc. )

One mobile application can control all objects and all
devices on site.

Working with voice assistants

Communication with voice assistants — Artificial Intelligence in action. Manage voice commands and
take advantage of the achievements of the 21st century. Alice from Yandex and Marusya from Mail.ru are already built into the system,
Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant will be next in the near future.

Intelligence and personalization

One of the most important advantages of the Mobile Management program is that the system
air conditioning becomes personalized.

You enter your own names
rooms, you can combine them into groups that are convenient for you. You can create your own commands and
bring them to one button. Using the built-in «Geolocation» function *, you set the desired distance, and
air conditioners automatically turn on or off when approaching or moving away from the house.

The cloud technology behind mobile control makes every air conditioner functional
premium class.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I control the air conditioner with
    mobile phone?

Outwardly, it looks simple: the screen of a mobile /
web application is similar to the control panel
air conditioner. Air conditioner operation parameters
are displayed on the screen. By changing them, the user
    controls the air conditioner.

    In more detail, the controller,
    installed inside the air conditioner
information about the status of systems and via the Internet
sends signals to a server called
Daichi Cloud. Mobile / web application
through the Internet is also connected with the «Cloud
    Daichi.» Application receives parameters
air conditioning systems from Cloud Daichi
and displays them on mobile/web screen
    devices.

On their mobile web device, the client
enters the desired parameters, the application
sends appropriate signals to the «Cloud
Daichi», the cloud transmits control signals
controller, and that, in turn, changes
    air conditioner operating parameters.

  • Where is the Daichi Cloud server located?

The Daichi server is located on the territory of the Russian Federation,
which is in accordance with federal law
    «On Personal Data» dated 27.07.2006
    N 152-FZ.

  • How to connect and configure the controller?

    Designed for split and multi-split
Wi-Fi systems Daichi controller at the first
connection temporarily forms its own separate
local network from which the owner can
establish a connection from any network
    devices (computer, mobile phone,
etc.) After the connection is established, the controller
asks the owner for connection data
to his local network. Next, he connects
to the owner’s home network, while the data
about the owner’s local network are stored in the
controller and are not communicated in any way to
    external world.

    Controller for VRF systems connected
to the local network via cable
    connections. Connection setup
    carried out by experts.

  • How many controllers will I need?

For split and multi-split systems Wi-Fi controller
    Daichi DW01/DW11 must be installed
to each indoor unit. For VRF systems
    one centralized controller is used
    DCM-NET/BMS.

  • Can I install the controller myself?

You can install the controller yourself,
    following the instructions https://daichicloud. ru/split-install,
however, we recommend that certified professionals be involved, as independent
installation of the controller may affect operation
conditioner. Our engineers will do the work
quickly, efficiently and at a convenient time for you.

  • Is it safe to leave my
    data? How are security and
    confidentiality?

You can be calm about the safety of your
    data. When providing Daichi services
signs a processing agreement with the client
    personal data, which is legally
    enforces your privacy rights
    received information.

  • Is it safe to give access to my
    local network?

Safe, data stored in the controller itself
    and are not transferred anywhere.
    However, as an additional measure
    security, consider creating a second
    LAN for all home appliances.

  • Can multiple users manage
    the same device?

Yes. Each user will have to
create your own account, and the very first
user (master) will be able to provide
access to the entire object or individual
    premises to other accounts.

Cloud air conditioner Daichi Alpha 2.0: comfort in the new version

    08/17/2022

“Our Cloud air conditioners are a fundamentally new generation of climate technology, where the emphasis is on new services and settings for your air conditioner. Thanks to the development of new scenarios and commands, an ordinary air conditioner turns into an intelligent climate system,” comments Dmitry Zolotkov, Director of the Daichi Cloud Solutions Department. “Thanks to digital technologies, we offer consumers impressive functionality that will be constantly updated and expanded in the course of use. The software package, located in the Daichi Cloud, allows our technology to adapt to changing needs and growing customer expectations.”

Daichi Alpha 2.0 cloud air conditioner is a smart air conditioner with connected online services and favorable payment terms.

The air conditioner is controlled from a smartphone, tablet or PC and connected to the Daichi Cloud Service. A cloud service with a fundamentally new approach to creating a microclimate allows the user to get a premium level of comfort.

What’s included in Daichi Cloud Service:

    • Mobile control — The cloud air conditioner is controlled from a smartphone/PC using the Daichi Comfort app. The application provides the owner with many premium features, personalized settings and the ability to control the air conditioner from anywhere in the world.
    • Online monitoring of the technical condition of the air conditioner-24/7 online monitoring of the operation of the air conditioner. In the event of a problem, Daichi’s support service notifies the owner and offers solutions.
    • Advice support through the application — if you need advice on the operation of the Cloud air conditioner, you can quickly contact Daichi support or order air conditioner service through the application.
    • Additional 2 Years Warranty — Since the air conditioner is under the control of the Cloud Service, it has an additional 2 years warranty.
    • The unique features of the Daichi Alpha 2.0 Cloud Air Conditioner are revealed in the Daichi Comfort app. The Daichi Comfort app is more than an air conditioner remote control, it is a truly mobile assistant for creating a comfortable climate in your home or office.

Daichi Comfort Mobile and Web App

Thanks to the Daichi Comfort app, the air conditioner becomes a high-tech device, allowing you to:

    • automate the operation of the device;
    • link the scenarios of the air conditioner to the geolocation of the smartphone;
    • use premium features: Sleep Comfort, Work Schedule, Geofencing;
    • manage with the help of voice assistants Alice, Marusya and Salyut;
    • set user groups;
    • create a personalized climate;
    • and more.

The Daichi Comfort team is constantly working on the implementation of new functions and scenarios for the Cloud Air Conditioner, taking into account the current trends in the industry. By updating the application, the user will have access to the most modern functions and control methods.

    Subscription with purchase

Owning the Daichi Alpha 2.0 is as easy and modern as operating this air conditioner. The cost of equipment already includes a subscription to the Cloud service, the benefits of which are described above. At the same time, the company’s customers purchase the equipment itself much more profitably than any of the devices with comparable functionality.

The user himself chooses the payment option that is most convenient for him — the purchase of equipment with a perpetual subscription to Daichi Cloud Service or an annual subscription. In the annual subscription option, you can pay for the Cloud service when necessary. The subscription price includes mobile control, 24/7 online monitoring, communication with the Daichi consultation center and an additional 2 year warranty. The perpetual subscription option does not require additional payments and includes perpetual access to the Daichi Cloud Service for the life of the air conditioner.

At the same time, users who choose the annual subscription model switch to a perpetual subscription after they make five annual payments. You can do this at any time. For example, if two years have already been paid for, then to switch to a lifetime subscription, you need to pay for three more years at once — or continue to pay once a year and receive a lifetime subscription after making the fifth annual payment.

The cloud service implemented in the Daichi Alpha 2.0 air conditioner allows you to get a premium level of comfort and complete confidence in the health of your equipment. This is the future of the climate market, available today.

      Important to know:

        • Unlike the first generation, the second generation Cloud Air Conditioners do not require a permanent connection to Wi-Fi and can be controlled locally using a smartphone via Bluetooth.
        • Cloud air conditioners have more favorable conditions for switching to a Perpetual subscription. When switching from an Annual subscription to a Lifetime subscription, previously made payments are taken into account. In total, you need to pay 4 annual payments, in addition to the 1 year included in the price.

The cloud service implemented in the Daichi Alpha 2.0 air conditioner allows you to get a premium level of comfort and complete confidence in the health of your equipment. This is the future of the climate market, available today!

Before choosing an air conditioner, you need to know all the features of the room, but more on that later. To select a device, it is recommended to follow the following basic steps:

        1. Familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the devices.

        2. Evaluation of the overall performance of devices.

        3. Feeling the need for additional functions other than thermoregulation.

        4. Select the brand of the device.

        5. Comparison of similar models and selection of the most suitable one.

        Brand choice

Brand choice depends a lot on your needs. The most reliable are Japanese and German brands. They have a corresponding price. Air conditioners made in China or Korea are the most budget options, respectively, their service life is shorter. Some air conditioners of different brands may have the same characteristics, but drastically vary in price.

All manufacturers of air conditioners can be conditionally divided into three classes:

        1. Economy class: Hyundai, Haier, Midea, etc.;
        2. Middle class: LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.;
        3. Premium class: Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, General, Daikin.

Choice: floor air conditioner or wall split system

Split systems can be built into the ceiling or wall mounted. Mobile air conditioners, all floor-standing.

Unlike floor-standing air conditioners, to install a split system you need:

        • Take into account the layout of the room.
        • Consider outdoor architecture.
        • Installation and setup by a specialist.
        • Pay more for additional installation service and more power.
        • No need to think about rearranging, or reducing the space in the room.

        Air conditioner power selection

The cooling capacity of air conditioner also depends on the power. Insufficient power will not give a full result of cooling or heating. Also, if the power of the air conditioner is too low for the room, then it will work at maximum. Therefore, it is not worth saving on power. But, the excessive power of the air conditioner will feed the excess energy. Therefore, it is always worth considering the power consumption.

        Air conditioner input

Do not confuse air conditioner performance with its power consumption. The power consumption depends on the electricity bill and how the air conditioner is connected to the network. If the power consumption is low, then it can also be connected to an extension cable, but air conditioner 9 and above with a cooling capacity of more than 8 kW must be connected directly to the power supply, through a special cable. With a power of up to 4 kW, the air conditioner can be easily powered from the outlet. Of course, it all depends on the permissible operating current of the electrical wiring at home. When choosing an air conditioner, you need to take into account that the power consumption is about 3 times lower than the one being cooled.

Marking 7, 9, 12 etc. speaks about the power of a split system, which is calculated in Btu / hour equal to 0.3 watts. That is, air conditioner 09 produces 2.1 kW, air conditioner 18 — 5.4 kW, air conditioner 24 — 7.2 kW, and air conditioner 36 — 10.8 kW.

How to determine the optimal power of the air conditioner

        premises.

But the above ratio is only approximate, and the required power of the air conditioner is influenced by many factors, namely:

        • The area of the room or room. This factor affects not only the choice of air conditioner power. The size of the device also usually depends on the size of the room.
        • Ceiling height.
        • The average number of people who are constantly in the room.
        • Number of electrical appliances. Not only appliances that produce a large amount of heat: an electric stove or a fan heater. TV, PC, refrigerator and others are also taken into account for the next factor.
        • Permissible operating current of the wiring and permanent load on it. Here it is necessary to take into account the power consumption of all electrical appliances in the house.
        • Insolation level. It is also necessary to take into account the degree of illumination by the sun’s rays, since they also give a plus to the temperature of the room.
        • The intensity of the physical work of people in the room. People, just like appliances, generate heat, so you should also choose the power of the air conditioner according to the type of activity of individuals in the room.

It is not necessary to adhere to all factors, because such an accuracy of the required power is not really needed. It is difficult to calculate the power yourself, so it is best to contact a specialist and present him with all the necessary information.

        Air conditioner as a heater

The principle of operation of the air conditioner for heat is called the heat pump mode. Does this mean that can be heated by air conditioner in winter? Unfortunately no. The split system is not a heating device. Accordingly, there is no element in the air conditioner that provides heating for the device. Air conditioners work on the principle of exchange, air distillation, and cooling the internal unit of the system with refrigerant. There are special additional winter systems, but even they allow you to warm up the room, if the street is not lower than -10, and then in the case of a powerful air conditioner. It is worth remembering that budget options for air conditioners often cannot create a freon reverse process, that is, give out warm air.

        Additional functions of air conditioners

Modern air conditioners have a number of additional functions that are simply amazing. Not so long ago, Samsung introduced the first air conditioners with Wi-Fi . Additional features should be selected from the estimated amount of money that you are willing to spend on the device.

        Additional options include:

        • Air purification.
        • Admixture of air from the street.
        • Inverter system.
        • Reduced noise level.
        • Ionizer.
        • Presence of a winter kit.
        • Presence sensor.

Make the right choice of air conditioner

Choose the brand and model carefully. You need to take into account all the features of the room. Pay special attention to the optimal power of the equipment. The type of device depends only on personal wishes. If you do not want to save on air conditioning, choose a powerful one with many additional features that will definitely improve your life.

How much electricity does the air conditioner actually use?

How much electricity does the air conditioner actually consume? — A priority

        12/28/2017

The power consumption of an air conditioner is one of the most important factors in purchasing this equipment. This can be explained by the constant increase in electricity prices, because every buyer wants to reduce their future costs after purchasing an air conditioner. However, it is no secret that expensive models usually differ in low power consumption, while cheap ones «pull» more. That is why, before buying this type of equipment, you should decide on an acceptable cost and answer the question: how much are you willing to give in order to save good money on paying for electricity later?

High energy consumption: myth or reality?

Some sources state that the energy consumption of an air conditioner is twice that of an iron. This is incorrect information, since in this case the concepts of output (thermal) and consumed power are confused. These are not identical concepts, since the consumption of electricity is approximately 2.5-6 times less compared to its generation.

To better understand the issue, we suggest comparing the operating parameters of air conditioning equipment with other devices:

        • 20-25 m room air conditioner 2 winds 0.5 — 0.8 kWh.
        • Plasma TV power consumption is 0.3 — 0.5 kWh.
        • Iron «pulls» 2.0-2.5 kW.
        • PC requires 0.3 — 0.5 kWh.

        Determination of energy efficiency

You can evaluate the energy efficiency of air conditioners using a special scale of COP and EER coefficients, which divides this indicator into seven categories (from A to G). At the same time, category A corresponds to the highest level, and G — to the smallest.

The COP coefficient is the ratio between the produced thermal energy and the consumed, which is needed for its generation. High COP values indicate good energy efficiency. The heating capacity indicates the power of the air conditioner (expressed in kW) operating at full load in heating mode.

The EER ratio reflects the ratio of parameters such as the performance of the equipment at full load in cooling mode and the amount of electrical energy required to achieve a given indicator. A high EER provides the same level of energy efficiency.

What else do you need to know about the power of air conditioners?

Typically, a split system (conventional or inverter air conditioner) with a capacity of 2.0-3.5 kW is connected to an outlet already in the house and consumes about 0.5-1.5 kW of electricity. However, these indicators may differ in certain air conditioners, so this issue should be approached individually, taking into account such aspects as:

        • The parameters of plugs in the electrical panel that protect the network from overload.
        • Power outlet. Permissible current and voltage values are indicated on the rear side. For example, the current strength for a foreign-made outlet is usually 10 or 16 A, and for a domestic one — 6.3 or 10 A. Accordingly, the first is capable of withstanding 3520 W, and the second is an order of magnitude less.

In addition, the characteristics of the electrical wiring are also an important aspect. One often hears the question: why does the machine on the electrical panel knock out in the house when the air conditioner is turned on? This happens if the wiring is old, thin or aluminum. And this does not mean at all that the technique “pulls” a lot. It just requires a good power supply. And in terms of savings, it has long been proven that air conditioning is much more profitable than a conventional electric heater.
