Hi guys. Does anybody know if the drum set, guitar, and the microphone for the PS2 version of Rock Band are compatible with PS3?

I was thinking that if the hardware are compatible, I can get the PS2 version for now and then just buy the game for $50-$60 when I get a PS3. This will allow me to enjoy Rock Band now on my PS2 and then upgrade to the PS3 version when I get a PS3.

Anybody know?

-Huh

Yes they are perfectly compatible. The «PS2» Rock Band hardware *is* the PS3 hardware.

I bought the PS2 bundle and a standalone PS3 game in a desperation move to fulfill a New Years Party quest and it paid off. — View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif —

Incidentally, of the three gameshops I put this question to, all of them vehemently denied that it was do-able, to the point of flat out lying («its a PS2 connector»). Trust me, it’ll work fine.

That rocks! I’m going to pick this up tonight (hopefully).

Also, Nerfgun — did you get another guitar to complete the set? If you did, do you have any brand you would recommend? Hopefully it’ll be something that will work for PS2 and PS3…

-Huh

And also my badass threads.

On the other hand, I’d hate to be without Rock Band. It is so good that it is worth starting over for.

For PS3, right now the only choice is another Strat (thanks Activision — dicks) and those aren’t for sale individually yet.

Now that I think about it… why is that? Aren’t both PS and Xbox versions just USB devices?

(I guess now that I think back, I guess I didn’t really need to ask the previous question. — View image here: http://episteme. arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif — )

-Huh

Both of them having a USB plug doesn’t make them speak the same protocol.

Sorry to revive an old thread. .. I never got a chance to pick one up because the PS2 bundle has been sold out at my local Circuit City for the past 2 weeks… — View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif —

Yeah, so you’ll basically end up paying about 220 for the whole bundle on day 1, but if you get a PS3 you won’t have to worry about buying the game again at least.

Has anyone confirmed the PS2 GH guitars yet? Not that I need to know, since activision wasn’t able to dick over 360 owners, but I really am curious.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock — this is the best songs of the 90s, a completely redesigned famous guitar controller and many new features. Players will be able to create their own band: play the guitar, beat the rhythm on the drums, sing along with world stars — and transform into a rock legend without leaving home! The best rock music of all time in one game — explosive compositions from Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Megadeth, as well as the legendary ballads of Queen, Muse and KISS, will unleash the rock warrior that lies dormant inside everyone!
For the first time in the history of the Guitar Hero series, players will be able to become real heroes in the new Quest Mode, where not only a fascinating story awaits them, but also a lot of in-game rewards and bonuses that unlock as you progress through the story. And you can always test your playing skills in the Quickplay mode, where each song is a real test for dedicated rock fans. Finally, what makes Guitar Hero one of the most successful music game franchises of all time is the ability to dive into the waves of rock with your friends in Party Play and Competitive Mode.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock — unforgettable impressions, unique sensations and boundless rock!
- Rock must be saved! In Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, for the first time in the history of the series, players will find a full-fledged Quest Mode story mode. Creator of the legendary KISS band Gene Simmons personally guides virtual musicians on the path to becoming a hero: from the unknown scene in a small CBGB club to the lava-filled arenas of another world. To the crushing rhythms of a new song by Dave Mustaine, vocalist and author of Megadeth, players will become real rock warriors and, at the request of the God of Rock, will fight the Beast that threatens to destroy the music.
- Together with friends — against the whole world! The Quickplay mode will allow all fans of the series to test their skills in 13 new challenges for each song from the game and your own Guitar Hero library. Hundreds of hours of musical madness guaranteed! A table of records for each instrument separately, as well as for the whole group, and various parameters, including synchronization of performance on all instruments — there is no limit to perfection! A special Power Challenge mode will allow players to choose any two super abilities already unlocked and try to pass tests using them. All records set will be the keys to countless in-game bonuses, including new tools, decorations and videos.
- The best rock music in one game! The list of more than ninety songs that became the heart of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock included only the most hurricane, explosive and famous songs. Fans are in for a one-of-a-kind collection of the most furious drum beats, enchanting guitar strumming and inspired vocals from rock legends — KISS, Slipknot, Megadeth, Queen, Black Sabath, as well as compositions from world-class stars written specifically for this game.
- The party is on! One of the important game features migrated from Guitar Hero 5 to Warriors of Rock — in the Party Play mode, players can join the performance or leave the group at any time without restarting the composition. In Competitive Mode competitions, everyone will be able to prove that they deserve the title of the best musician. Four players will be able to compete behind one console, and up to eight musicians can compete with each other in the game over the network at the same time. Brand new challenges — Streakers, Momentum or Do or Die — are a great skill test for veterans of the series and a great trainer for beginners.
- Let’s Rock! The 90+ songs can be expanded with the Guitar Hero Music Library, which will feature over 300 downloadable songs by the game’s release. In addition, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will support the transfer of music from previous games in the series — Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero Smash Hits, Guitar Hero 5, and Band Hero.
All additional music downloads will be playable in all available game modes, including 13 Quickplay Challenges. Hundreds of hours of play and crazy fun guaranteed!
- Each musician has his own guitar! Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock comes with an advanced controller. Transferring all electronic parts to the guitar neck will allow all virtual musicians to develop their own unique style, as well as change the look of their guitar depending on their own preferences thanks to interchangeable side panels. And the introduction of shredding into the game will raise the skill of the players to a whole new level.
Instrument Compatibility FAQ for Rock Band 4 on Xbox One
When Rock Band 4 was first announced, Harmonix promised that they would work to ensure that as many drums, guitars and microphones for the Xbox 360 as possible would be compatible with the new game. Since then, Harmonix has introduced an extensive list of backward compatible instruments that work with Xbox One, so you can use your old Xbox 360 guitar with the Rock Band 4 thanks to the Legacy Xbox Game Controller Adapter.
This information applies to all versions of Xbox One, including Xbox One S and Xbox One X .
Rock Band Legacy Xbox One Adapter
Because Xbox 360 controllers use their own wireless signal and Xbox One uses Wi-Fi Direct for its controllers, using older Xbox 360 wireless tools on Xbox One requires an additional adapter. The Xbox One Legacy Adapter is a small USB device that plugs into your Xbox One that allows your console to receive signals from wireless Xbox 360 drums and guitars. In contrast, the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 use Bluetooth, so to play older instruments Rock Band on PS4 does not require any special adapter.
Obsolete adapter supplied with some standalone versions of Rock Band 4 . Other hardware kits that include the new Xbox One Guitars, Drums, and Microphones do not come with the legacy adapter, but you can purchase it separately online. If you purchase the digital version of Rock Band 4 on Xbox One, you will receive instructions on how to get the legacy adapter.
Only instruments from the same console family are backwards compatible, so only PlayStation 3 (and some PS2) instruments work on PS4 and only Xbox 360 instruments work on Xbox One.
