SteelSeries Qck HEAVY Mousepad Review

Let’s face it, if you’re reading this, it’s more likely out of curiosity than the fact that you’re doing some deep research about the right mousepad to buy to complete your well-thought-out gaming setup.
Or, you know, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe you ARE doing some deep research. In which case, I should tell you that you’re in the right place.
Lately, I’ve been really impressed by how far manufacturers can go with making a mousepad – the most boring part of a gaming setup – something to look forward to.
The MPC450 mousepad from Endgame Gear, in particular, changed the way that I view them and really showed me that mousepads are more than just a random piece of cloth and fiber to drag your mouse over.
With my newfound respect for these unsung heroes, I decided to do a Steelseries Qck HEAVY mousepad review. I’ve heard some good things about it, so I’m a bit excited to share my thoughts with you. Let’s get into it!
Cost
The Steelseries Qck HEAVY is available on the official Steelseries website for a maximum price of $29.99 at the time of writing, or you can check out the latest price on Amazon below:
SteelSeries QcK Heavy — Cloth Gaming Mouse Pad — Extra Thick Non-Slip Rubber Pad — Exclusive…
Packaging
First impressions are everything, and this one made a not-so-good first impression. I understand why manufacturers often have to roll up mousepads – especially the bigger ones – but I don’t like what it does to the product inside.
In some cases, it leaves bumps and dents in the fabric. Sometimes, it’s easy to smoothen it out and other times, it’s not. The Fnatic Dash mousepad was one that smoothened out pretty easily, so I was hopeful for this one too.
Sadly, in the case of the Steelseries Qck HEAVY, I found that there were still bits of inward flaring on the sides, and it still tends to fold to the other side even after I weighed it down.
It’s not a huge dealbreaker, but it’s a little annoying.
Specs
The key specs of the Steelseries Qck HEAVY are as follows:
Medium Size (mm) | Large Size (mm) | XXL Size (mm) | Surface | Edge | Underside | Weight |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
320 × 270 × 6 | 450 × 400 × 6 | 900 × 400 × 4 | Micro-Woven Cloth | Non-stitched | Rubber | 744 grams |
That “Heavy” in its name is there for good reason – this is a weighty mousepad. It’s pretty thick at 6mm for the medium and large sizes, but they’ve tried to reduce the extra weight on the desk mat size by keeping the thickness level to 4mm.
I would’ve liked to see stitched edges, as the lack of it brings doubts about the durability of the edges and proneness to fraying after a while. However, it would cost more than it does with stitched edging, so it’s a way of keeping the cost low.
Design
The surface of the mousepad is made of micro-woven cloth. There’s a Steelseries logo in the bottom left corner that is minimalistic enough to stay out of sight – pretty much.
Otherwise, the rest of the pad is completely black.
With further thought, I realized that it would’ve been harder to implement stitched edging on this mousepad because of the thickness of the edges. The MPC450 was only 3mm thick, so that would’ve been a less difficult process.
Compared to some of the other mousepads that I have, the SteelSeries Qck HEAVY is quite firm. It doesn’t absorb and release pressure as much, which can be a pro or a con depending on how you use your mice.
The rubber base of the underside of the pad is very thick, and it provides extra comfort and support when gaming. It sticks pretty well to surfaces, so you don’t have to worry too much about dragging the pad with you as you flick your mouse.
Thicker pads are generally more accommodating with desks of inferior quality too, which can be handy in some situations.
Performance
Speed
There are mousepads that focus on crazy speed, while there are others that focus on control of the mouse. The Steelseries Qck HEAVY sits bang in the middle of those two categories, balancing the ease that comes with speed with the accuracy that comes with control.
I think it’s a strong positive for gamers that play a lot of slower shooters such as CSGO and Valorant. It definitely makes the mousepad feel more versatile and consistent regardless of the context of the game you’re playing.
Watch my video review below to see how my mouse glides over the pad.
In-game
The thickness of the mousepad helps with comfort during longer gaming sessions, and as I said, the balance between speed and control brings the most consistent results.
However, you may need to consider alternatives if you mostly play fast-paced shooters that require faster mouse movements.
At the same time, it does not have the stopping power of slower pads, so if you have a habit of overshooting when gaming, you may want to reconsider this purchase.
If you play on low sensitivity, this mousepad should be a dream for you because there’s so much space to move your mouse around on. You can sweep it across the pad and not have to worry too often about lifting and re-adjusting your mouse to get the cursor across the screen.
Maintenance
The material of the Steelseries Qck HEAVY is a bit of a dust trap. It’s also not as straightforward or easy to clean as the Fnatic Dash, but at least it’s washable.
When you do decide to give it a wash, bear in mind that you’ll need to wait for a while for the pad to dry because it’s so thick. However, when it does dry up, it’s pretty much good as new.
SteelSeries QcK Heavy — Cloth Gaming Mouse Pad — Extra Thick Non-Slip Rubber Pad — Exclusive…
Verdict
Would I recommend this? Easily.
It’s built like a tank at 744 grams, which is heavier than some keyboards, but it’s going to spend most of its life sitting in one place so I don’t think that should be a dealbreaker.
Extra features and a bit of flash are nice perks, but if you’re the sort of person that just needs efficiency and value for your money, then the Steelseries Qck HEAVY mousepad is a fantastic option.
SteelSeries QcK Heavy Review
ProSettings | LarsReviews
When it comes to competitive gaming gear people often like to talk about which mouse they should use, which headset offers the best value for money, and so on.
Not a lot of people seem to be talking about which mousepad you should choose, which is a shame. It might not be the most important part of your setup, but there are definitely big differences between the various types of pad, not only in appearance but also in performance and feel.
The Steelseries QcK line has been a steady performer in the world of mousepads, with it being both widely available and offered at a reasonable price, so it’s no wonder that this pad is one of the more popular ones out there and the next pad to be featured on our list of popular gaming mousepad reviews.
Finding a mousepad that suits you and your playstyle can really enhance your overall gaming experience.
The Steelseries QcK Heavy is definitely that; heavy. That’s due to the fact that it’s a very thick mousepad. It’s around 6 mm thick (0.23 inch) and it’s made that way to ensure that you don’t feel any imperfections in the surface you decide to put it on, which can be an issue with thinner mousepads.
Due to the overall size and weight of the QcK Heavy it lays flat on your desk almost immediately after unpacking it (it comes packaged in a rolled up fashion), which is definitely nice if you want to use it instantly. The pad obviously won’t cover up any gaping holes in your desk, but due to its thickness it does indeed cover up minor imperfections rather well, making it a good choice for players who travel to lans often or play on shoddy surfaces.
A weird quirk with this pad is that it has a rather defined smell to it. After unpacking it the pad will definitely fill a small room with the smell of the materials that were used for a couple of days. That’s solved by leaving it to air out for a bit or by simply not caring about the smell, but it’s definitely weird for a mousepad to elicit ‘what’s that smell?’ responses from people who quickly entered the room.
SPECS:
- No stitched edges
- Medium — fast glide
- Length: 44. 5 cm / 17.5 in
- Height: 39.7 cm / 15.6 in
- Thickness: 6 mm
Performance
The QcK Heavy is a large mousepad, so people who play on low sensitivity will find plenty of real estate to execute their large sweeps. The pad itself is finished with a white Steelseries logo in the bottom left corner, but is left completely black otherwise. The logo didn’t interfere with the tracking as far as my testing goes (I tested with a variety of different sensors and mice) so should you find yourself frolicking about at the edge of your mousepad in the heat of the battle you won’t see any issues.
The QcK Heavy has a rubber base in order to make it stick to the surface it’s placed on. I’ve been using the Heavy on and off for months now and I’ve yet to catch it slipping even a bit, even though I play on a rather low sensitivity and do some rather aggressive flicking from time to time.
The pad sadly itself isn’t finished with stitched edges, which gives it a less premium look than its stitched counterparts, and the edges have started fraying a little bit, though it’s definitely nothing too bad.
The QcK Heavy has a rather tight texture, resulting in a smooth and medium (to fast, for a cloth pad) glide. It doesn’t have the most stopping power as a result, so if you have a tendency to overshoot you might want to think twice about buying this certain pad.
A very small downside of choosing a pad this large is that it’s going to take a while to completely dry off if you decide to wash it (which you should, every once in a while) but that just comes with the nature of the product.
The QcK Heavy's texture in a closeup
Conclusion & Recommendation
The QcK Heavy is a great pad for users who want to have plenty of real estate to move their mouse around.
It’s built like a tank and offers a very smooth, medium-fast gliding experience. It might not be to everyone’s taste due to the thickness of it, but if you can get past that (and the smell during the first few days) the QcK Heavy is definitely a very good and reliable pad which can easily be used as a LAN pad on its own as well.
If you like to have your pad ‘rein you in’ a bit you should be wary though, as there isn’t a whole lot of stopping speed to the QcK Heavy.

Best Gaming Mouse Pad (Cloth) in 2021
A cloth mouse pad is a quintessential piece of gear that plays quite an underrated part in your gaming experience.
It’s hard to recommend just one single mouse pad as the best gaming mouse pad period, so we’ve recommended 5 mouse pads that you really can’t go wrong with.
The best overall mouse pad, if you don’t know what you prefer, is the HyperX Fury S mouse pad, it combines really fantastic build quality with a medium/fast speed glide makes it a perfect first choice mouse pad.

Corsair MM300 | Speed | S, M, XL, Extended, Extended XL | See Price |
The Glorious Gaming Mouse Pad is our top pick for a speed pad, it’s affordable and provides a really nice fast glide while not skimping on stitched edges despite its price. The legendary Steelseries QcK is our first pick for a gamers looking for control pads, it’s basement pricing means that even when the QcK wears out, which it will, it’ll be easy to replace.
The premium Zowie GS-R provides a higher quality high control experience with very minimal branding. The Corsair MM300 provides a large size option for control pads.
Aren’t all mouse pads the same?
Not exactly, most mouse pads will be an improvement over a bare wood, metal or glass surface, but a good mouse pad introduces a significant amount of consistency to your gameplay, which contributes you to playing better over the long term.
Good mouse pads are also generally built better, they have stitched edges and surfaces that will hold up better over time. Mouse pads come in a variety of sizes, paddings and textures that allow for a custom gaming experience. If you like to move your mouse fast, you can get a speed pad, if you like pixel by pixel accuracy, go for a control pad.
1. HyperX Fury S

- Comes in both control and speed variants

Cons

The HyperX Fury S is a clear top pick given its wealth of options and its top-tier quality.
The Fury S comes in 4 size options:
- Small: 290mm x 240mm
- Medium: 360mm x 300mm
- Large: 450mm x 400mm
- XL: 900mm x 420mm
The amount of options means you’ll get the mouse pad that best suits your amount of desk space.
I have the standard Fury S version, the surface tracks very consistently with an average amount of control, not nearly as much as something like the GS-R or QcK. The great thing about the Fury S is that it also comes in a speed pad variant.
Comfort is awesome on the Fury S with a really plush and thick mouse pad which is something I enjoy, the standard version is slightly scratchy on the skin but nothing I would consider uncomfortable. The stitched is tight and perfect, no fraying happening here from my experience.
From a design standpoint the HyperX Fury S is okay, the logo is quite large but luckily the texture is the same on the branded area and I haven’t noticed any tracking issues over the logo. The pad also has some limited edition custom
2. Glorious Gaming Mouse Pad
The best speed pad
Pros
- Affordable price
- Great glide
- Stitched edge at a low price
- Minimal branding
- 5 size options
- Color options: black and white
- Stealth option with super minimal branding
Cons
- Thinnest mouse pad on the list, there is one heavy Large version of the mousepad available on Amazon
- Stitched edge inconsistent
Best speed pad
Glorious Gaming Mouse Pad
The best overall speed pad with a great price
Check price on Amazon
Glorious continues to show that they really get gamers and what they want. The Glorious Mouse Pad offers a really great speed experience for not a lot of money with the smallest Glorious size at $12 dollars.
Tracking is smooth and consistent across the entire pad with the logo only occupying the bottom right of the pad.
The logo itself is a bit of an eyesore, luckily the Glorious pad comes with a Stealth colour option, which reduces the logo to a gray head logo without the words, probably the best choice unless you really want to advertise that you have ascended.
Choice is a feature I really appreciate in a good mouse pad, the Glorious is no exception with 5 size choices:
- Large: 61 x 122 cm
- XL: 28 x 33 cm
- XL Extended: 41 x 46 cm
- Extended: 36 x 61 cm
- XXL Extended: 28 x 91 cm
- 3XL Extended: 61 x 122 cm
You can get a mouse pad of any size, the 3XL size is MASSIVE if you wish to have your entire desk be a surface.
It’s amazing to see a stitched edge on a mouse pad at this price, the Glorious stitches aren’t as nice as the Fury S’, there are a couple of loose strands and inconsistencies in my version of the mouse pad, but for the long run it’ll keep the mouse pad from fraying no problem.
Underneath the mouse pad is coated with a tight rubber pattern, the underside is thin, I feel a lot more of my desk through this pad than a thicker mouse pad, but that is mostly a preference. The Glorious pad does a swell job of staying in place during hectic gaming sessions.
3. Steelseries QcK
A great budget control pad
Pros
- Legendary control
- Different thickness options
- Super affordable
- Multiple size options
Cons
- Pretty large logo foot print
- No stitch edges at the lower price point
- Missing extended option on base version
Cheap control
Steelseries QcK
A classic high control mouse pad with a low price
Check price on Amazon
The QcK is a legendary mouse pad loved by a lot of CS:Go pro players, and for good reason. The QcK provides a really grippy, high control glide which is absolutely appreciated if you need perfect pixel precision to click heads from miles away.
The QcK comes with multiple options and types, there’s the QcK Heavy which is a thicker version of the QcK vanilla, QcK edge is the version of the QcK with a stitched edge and an XL extended version, the QcK hard is the hard version and lastly the QcK Prism adds RGB to the mix.
We’re picking the vanilla QcK here just for its pure budget value, this is the cheapest high performance mouse pad you can get on the market, you can get the small size for 7 dollars. We’d recommend the QcK edge if you’d like a control pad that lasts a little bit longer.
The QcK comes in 3 sizes: small, medium and large. Weirdly, this version is missing the extended size, the QcK Edge is your choice for an extended QcK mouse pad.
Underneath the QcK you see a tight rubber coating pattern that holds onto desk surfaces really well. The lack of a stitched edge on the vanilla pad means that you will see fraying over a long period of time, but at this price you can get a replacement pad no problem.
The logo of the QcK does have a fairly large footprint, with the logo having a rubber texture that will definitely interfere with tracking. The thickness of the mouse pad is average, thick enough to be plenty comfortable.
4. Zowie GS-R
High quality control
I didn’t get a chance to clean this mouse pad, but you can see it has lasted me quite a while.
Pros
- Minimal branding
- High quality stitched edges
- Really high control for people who want it
- Decent thickness
- Solid rubber base
Cons
- Expensive
- Only two sizes, large (GS-R) and small (PS-R)
Quality control
Zowie GS-R
A classic control pad, super high quality

A well worn Zowie GS-R branding tag
The GS-R was my main mouse pad for years and you can see that in the photos that I have of it, it’s been through multiple cleanings and plenty of game play, it’s a testament to the quality of the GS-R that it’s still a serviceable mouse pad.
The GS-R is known for its super high friction glide, this is meant for gamers that know they want maximum control, and boy does the GS-R deliver on that front. The GS-R will provide a consistent grippy experience, so long as you keep the surface clean as the GS-R does tend to pick up dirt.
We’d recommend going for the GS-R over the P-SR only because the more space you have the better, the PS-R is the same super good mouse pad.
Dimensions of the GS-R: 47cm x 39 cm.
The stitched edge is tight and really consistent throughout, my old GS-R has shown no signs of fraying on the edges. The rubber underneath is solid and the thickness is in the medium range, really satisfying to use.
A minor pro, but a pro nonetheless, I appreciate the very minimal branding tag on the mouse pad that is entirely out of the way during normal gaming.
5. Corsair MM300
A great speedy-ish pad
Pros
- Good speedy glide
- Multiple size options
- High quality stitched edging
- Good thickness
- Grippy base
Cons
- Non-standard surface design
- Lots of branding
Speedy
Corsair MM300
A great speed pad alternative with a unique design
Check price on Amazon
The Corsair MM300 represents another high quality speed pad option. The Corsair MM300 is a good choice if you don’t want to more for a speed Fury, and you find the Glorious a little too thin, the Corsair MM300 sits between there nicely.
The graphics on the MM300 are love or hate, I personally don’t like it but that’s completely subjective, the pad tracks perfectly with a smooth glide even with the design.
The MM300 comes in multiple size options:
- Small – 25.6 x 21 cm
- Medium – 36 cm x 30 cm
- Extended – 93 cm x 30 cm
The height of these mouse pads can be a bit of an issue, especially on the extended version, the mouse pad doesn’t have much vertical room which may feel more cramped when compared to pads like the Fury and the Glorious.
All high quality markers are here, great stitched edge, satisfying thickness, and a great rubber bottom. The mouse pad is built to last.
How we tested and picked
As always, we primarily test by playing a ton of games a bunch of the top rated mouse pads. I personally prefer control pads but that will not stop me from appreciating a good speed pad. We played on these mouse pads with a bunch of our gaming mice. During gameplay I’m looking for a consistent experience, while looking for specific factors.
Surface
A good mouse pad surface is going to deliver a consistent tracking experience whether that’s a smooth glide or a controlled glide, it should behave the same over time. Humidity actually has a factor to play in surface glide experience, a humid environment is going to make all gaming pads ‘stickier’, so in that case, you might want to go for a smoother, faster mouse pad. Faster mousepads usually have a tighter weave that is less affected by humidity in general.
Durability
After some time, the surface of a mouse will collect, dirt, skin and sweat and it’ll lose its original glide properties. A good mouse pad will have a durable weave/texture to withstand a wash to restore the original performance of the pad. A lot of good mouse pads also feature a stitched edge, which prevents the mouse pad from fraying at the edges.
Slip and traction
The underside of the mouse pad should be lined with a surface, usually rubber, that will maintain a strong grip on your desk surface regardless of material. No matter how hard you’re holding your mouse, your mouse pad shouldn’t slip whatsoever.
Padding & Comfort
This is a bit of a personal preference, but I think good mouse pads should have a fair amount of padding, the more comfortable your gaming experience the longer you can play for. Surfaces and edges of the mouse pad should not irritate the skin on prolonged use.
Design
A good mouse pad should look like it belongs in a majority of gaming set ups, we don’t like huge branding or over the top designs, the best mouse pads that appeal to the most people will have a bit of a minimal design.
Sizes
Good mouse pads will come in different sizes to accommodate the amount of desk space you have in your set up. Generally, you want to get as much mouse space as possible, a larger mouse pad gives you room to lower your sensitivity which is one of the proven ways to better your aim. Regardless, if you have little desk space, a good mouse pad should have a small size so you aren’t too crammed.
Logitech g640 Mousepad Review » [Pros, Cons & Durability].
Logitech products are always mentioned in the gaming mousepads used by many gamers around the world. This time I got Logitech’s large mouse pad, G640. So, this article is on a Logitech g640 Mousepad review.
The Logitech G640 is a soft-type gaming mouse pad that was released by Logitech in 2015. However, it is still being one of the top gaming mousepads used by FPS professional gamers due to its relatively large size and compatibility while gaming (mouse pad that can be used for games of all genres).
Gaming mousepads aren’t necessarily the most important peripheral of computer, but using a gaming mousepad that fits your style will definitely improve your PC gaming experience and performance that’s why the majority of the gamers consider gaming mousepad for their performance.
In this article, I will review the Logitech g640 mousepad and share the usability, feeling of use, texture, and durability after used for a year now. I also made a comparison with the mouse pad of other manufacturers, so I would be grateful if you could refer to it!

FAQs
Logitech g640 Mousepad Review’s Conclusion:
Let’s start with the Logitech G640 Mousepad review. The Logitech 640 comes packed in a hexagonal box. The contents are only the mouse pad body, warranty card and warranty policy.
Since the mouse pad is cylindrical, it has a slight curl for few hours after opening, but it flattens out within a couple of hours when placed on a desk. Also, there is almost no odor from the beginning of the opening.
It looks impressive and immediately makes it clear that inside there is a rug of at least medium size. By the way, the manufacturer himself mentions the packaging as one of the chips – it is convenient to carry the mat with you in it if you often travel with all the game uniforms.
So, this time, I will check “Logitech G640” which is used by many players at home. I get the impression that it has permeated both casual gamers and professional scenes, yet how about we discover the featuring specs.
Quick Specs
- Size – Length: 400mm, Horizontal: 460mm,
- Thickness – 3mm,
- Weight – 351g,
- Slip surface – Made of Soft fabric,
- Back side – Non-slip rubber base,
- The edges are left uncut and not sewn,
Extra designs and patterns can adversely affect the performance of the mouse sensor either optical or laser. The G640 is developed with this in mind, enables stable mouse operation anywhere on the mouse pad. Clean, consistent processing from end to end for smooth tracking across the entire surface.
1.
Appearance & Material.
The design of the mousepad is very simplistic and the entire main playing surface is made of material with black colored, with the just only Logitech “G” logo at the bottom right. The backside is made of rubber material to prevent slipping from the desk.
The texture of the surface is made of soft fabric material and it slides smoothly so even if you use various types of mice, there is no particular habit. The surface is thin – only 3 mm so that the hand doesn’t get tired and feels as comfortable as could really be expected.
Soft foam at the base provides decent cushioning and added comfort, while the pronounced texture prevents the rug from slipping on the table. Also, The sponge in the middle layer is a little hard. Also, it has a cushioning property that sinks a little when pressed with a finger.
In general, everything is modest, sustained, and will be more in spirit for those users who don’t care about surfaces that attract too much attention. Even from the point of view of design and ergonomics, there is simply nothing to complain about the Logitech G640.
But at the same time, the white part reflected is the “G” logo at the lower right corner of the mouse pad, but as you can see, the paint is sticky, so the logo part can not be used as a mouse pad.
2.
Slipperiness
As per Logitech’s formula, the G640’s surface friction is “moderate” and is classified as a balanced mouse pad. Implies that the surface is smooth to the touch, with little resistance, and medium-speed sliding that is neither too quick nor too slow.
The reason I referenced “moderate cushioning” above is that the pad is neither too hard nor excessively delicate, and the slight sinking of the mouse pad provides just the right amount of resistance.
I felt that it was a mouse pad that was slippery than average. What is remarkable about this mouse pad is its fine and silky surface material. The surface of the G640 allows the mouse to slide smoothly, giving a light operation feeling.
Also in the terms of the difference in vertical and horizontal sliding, the vertical one has a slight sense of resistance. The feel is also slightly different between vertical and horizontal.
Since the mouse is flat and stable from the start to the stop, it can be said that it is a mouse pad that is compatible with games that require accurate tracking.
At last, there are many different aim styles, and each person feels differently, so it’s hard to say which mouse pad is the best. In any case, there is a view that it is safer to avoid peaky things so as not to create odd habits. In such cases, the G640 will be the first choice.
3.
Durability
I’ve used the G640 for gaming for about a year, and I’ve seen the durability and maintainability: The troubling point I observed is the non-stitched edge with the mousepad. Since the edges are not sewn and it looks like it has been cut.
It’s 3mm thick and doesn’t have the stitching that you often see on modern gaming mousepads. If you use this type of hand for a long time, accordingly, the edges become fluffy due to deterioration over time, the peeling will become noticeable after a certain period of use.
This is unavoidable as long as it is a full flat type mouse pad with no stitches on the edges, however it turned out to be such a state in around 6 months to 10 months.
In addition, the cloth on the surface becomes less slippery due to dirt such as hand sweat as it is used. Wiping with a wet wipe can restore the slipperiness, but it is only a temporary remedy. It isn’t suggested if it becomes conspicuous or slippery, yet it is better to wash it.
The feeling of operation doesn’t fluctuate greatly depending on the environment, and I didn’t feel that it is vulnerable to humidity. So I can say that after reviewing the Logitech g40 mousepad the durability is moderate but not high at all.

Performance
The first thing that attracts the attention of the Logitech G604 is its large size.
And the second thing is that the manufacturer used medium friction nylon on the top surface, which functions admirably for both speed and control options. At the same time, the mouse runs on the mat really well, without snags or slippages.
And I had no complaints about speed and accuracy either with the Logitech G604, with which he came for testing or with other gaming mice.
To make the mouse significantly more comfortable, the manufacturer narrowed its back to the back and made the sides curved. There is even a special thumb rest on the Logitech’s g640 mouse if you see it on the left side so that one can rest and not be in constant tension.
I also don’t feel a lot of friction even if my palm hits it, so I felt it was truly easy to use for gaming.

Gaming Experience
Apex Legends is a game that often has a smooth AIM that keeps chasing enemies, but CS: GO is a game with many numerous that aim and stop suddenly, and even with the same FPS, the AIM method is completely different, so it is a quite different view.
In the case of Apex Legends, I found it easy to do AIM that keeps moving like chasing enemies. I was able to move the mouse smoothly because it was slippery and I could move the mouse with a light force.
In the case of CS: GO, I had the impression that the slippery advantage was rarely good in light of the fact that it was more like matching the AIM to the enemy rather than keeping the AIM moving, but I didn’t think it was difficult to stop.
Generally speaking, the G640 mousepad has an excellent balance of “slip” and “stop”, which are important for mouse movement during the game. From games with intense shooting such as Fort Knight to games that require AIM accuracy. There’s a reason why it’s also picked by professional gamers!
In conclusion, it’s a very slippery and easy-to-use mouse.
The Impression of using Logitech g640 Mousepad for a Year:
- The G640 is a slippery [balanced type] as a gaming mouse pad,
- It slips considerably when combined with a lightweight mouse that weighs only 60g and 70g, which is popular these days.
- It slides moderately and stops moderately.
- It feels like silk … It’s a bit overstated, but it’s that kind of smoothness.
- Arms are fluffy because there is no edge stitch,
- I was able to bring out my performance without any problems even with CS: GO, which requires fine AIM.
- The Logitech G640r is well-balanced and can be used in a variety of play styles, including high-sensitivity, middle-sensitivity, and low-sensitivity, so it’s no wonder it’s used by top players around the world.

Comparing the
Logitech g640 Mousepad with Steelseries Qck.
I compared the slipperiness of “Logitech G640” with the “SteelSeries QcK” mouse pad. The “SteelSeries QcK” is 2mm thick and the “Logitech G640” is 3mm thick. Both are cloth mousepads
The surface knitting looks almost the same, but the Logitech G640r is smooth and has a silky texture that allows you to move the mouse more smoothly than with the Qck. With respect to the stop, Qck will be in an ideal situation.
In addition, the middle layer has moderate cushioning (thickness 3 mm). For example, with QcK, although it is a sliding surface with strong resistance and easy to control, it doesn’t have pad properties (thickness 2 mm), so I feel that it lacks instantaneous stopping ease, but with G640, the mouse sinks into the cushion and you can get a sensation of stopping.
As a result, “Logitech G640” had overwhelmingly better slippage. Well, the “SteelSeries QcK” is worn out and may have deteriorated, but maybe even a new one, the “Logitech G640” slipped better.
Even if you touch it, the “SteelSeries QcK” is rough and the “Logitech G640” is smooth, so I think the “Logitech G640” was smoother.
If you focus on stopping, it’s like “SteelSeries QcK +”, and if you focus on slipping, it’s like “Logitech G640”.
Until now, the SteelSeries QcK series has always been the standard mouse pad. However, in recent years, I think the G640 has taken the place of a standard product from the Qck series. The reason is that the G640 is more sophisticated and follows modern games.

FAQs
Logitech g640 Mousepad is Recommended for?
The Logitech G640 mousepad is recommended for all gamers from PC game beginners to professional esport players in various genres and play styles.
Does the Logitech g640 Mousepad works with the latest gaming mouse sensors?
I tested a variety of sensors on it (Pixart PMW3310, SDNS-3988, ADNS-9800, as well as Philips Twin-Eye PLN2037), and I did not notice any jambs on any of them. The surface should be called universal and the most problem-free for working with almost any sensor.
How hard is the property of the backside of the logitech g40 mousepad?
The backside is a non-slip rubber base property. The mouse pad does not move at all even if you operate the mouse violently and it stops firmly. The large size and large surface area of the non-slip are also one of the reasons why it is hard to slip. It can handle intense mouse movements in FPS!
How slippery the mousepad is?
It is a gaming mouse pad for those who are looking for “slipperiness” in the mouse pad. It is a highly recommended for gamers who want smooth mouse sliding.
How often mousepad gets dirty?
The mousepad gets dirty constantly, however even if it gets a little dirty during use, it can be easily wiped off by simply wiping the surface with a slightly damp cloth.
Logitech g640 Mousepad Review’s
Conclusion:
We’ve taken a closer look at the Logitech G640 mousepad review. It is one of the gaming mouse pads that is recommended for beginners in PC gaming without any doubt for the reason it has a good balance of slip and stop and does not have such a habit.
It is also an irresistible option for core gamers who want to “balance slip and stop“. The feeling of operation required by each person is different, but I think that it is extremely rare to dislike the feeling of operation of the G640, which is an intermediate standing position (aside from whether it is preferred or not).
The Logitech G640 is, in a good way, a regular mouse pad. Quality, usability, durability, and price are all normal. Nothing, in particular, is good or bad. But I think this is the biggest reason why it’s gaining popularity among gamers.
The performance aspect of the G640 is satisfying for many players. Durability is the only little drawback. G640 is a full flat type mouse pad with no stitching on the edge. It is important to understand that the cloth on the surface will come off at the edge where the arm rubs.
Finally, the G640 is perfect for anyone who wants to make a universal choice. If you are asked, “I’m thinking of buying a gaming mouse pad, what should I do?”, I would recommend the Logitech G640 immediately.
Bottom Line: It is a standard product and has a sophisticated feel. Recommended for a wide range of players from light gamers to professional gamers.

Review of SteelSeries QcK Prism / Overclockers.
ua
Gaming mats equipped with LED backlighting are no surprises now. After all, they have been tightly included in the assortment of all leading manufacturers of gaming peripherals for two years now. Now it is still difficult to judge whether the experiment was successful and whether the players really need the backlight on the mat. But there is clearly a certain demand for them, because this product has not disappeared from sale, but, on the contrary, has begun a gradual evolution. Actually, we want to talk about evolution in this review. SteelSeries’ first and only RGB carpet was the QcK Prism hard double-sided surface. It has already been mentioned earlier in this review. More recently, two more new products have appeared — QcK Prism Cloth Medium and QcK Prism Cloth XL. They are made of soft fabric, with an optical tape sewn around the perimeter and differ only in size. Now let’s dive into the details.

SteelSeries QcK Prism
Rigid on the inside, beautiful on the outside, the box securely protects the playing surface on its way to the customer.
The first carpet in the QcK Prism line was made on the basis of a rigid plastic base with a rubber outer covering, on the inner perimeter of which LEDs are inserted. The effective size of the playing surface is 320×270 mm, but it is at a height of 7 mm, which can be a little high for those who are used to keeping their hands on the table, and not on the arm of the chair.
The backlight controller is attached to the carpet body on the left and does not interfere with mouse movements in any way. It has a glossy company logo on it.
The worktop can be removed and turned over if necessary. One side is made of a very slippery polymer material, and the other side is made of fine textured fabric, which has a higher grip. The overlay is held due to surface tension and the corrugated sticky surface of the substrate.
Soft touch rubber base. Holds well on the table top.
USB cable, thin, unsheathed, 2 meters long. It has kink protection both at the port input and at the controller output.
The most entertaining thing about QcK Prism is, of course, the backlight. The 12 individual LEDs, three on each side, can play any color, create a light show, or even work as a visual notification of game events if properly configured through the driver. All colors except white are able to display correctly.
Three brightness levels and complete backlight off, 12 separate zones, seven patterns and four lighting effect options with various additional presets are configured in the control driver. The color is set to any desired.
SteelSeries QcK Prism Cloth Medium
The box of this copy is made in the same style as the older brother in the line. It is flat in shape and is characterized by increased rigidity, although, given that the rug is soft, it could have been made in a less durable package.
The QcK Prism Cloth version is much more like regular mats — a soft, slippery black fabric surface is padded around the perimeter with optical fiber. The effective surface area is 313×265 mm and the height is 4 mm.
The backlight controller is traditionally sewn closer to the upper left corner so as not to interfere with the movement of the mouse cable. To illuminate the fiber, two separate LEDs are used — one at the bottom of the controller, the second at the top, therefore, formally, this surface has a two-zone illumination. There is also a disadvantage. The case from below slightly protrudes in height beyond the dimensions of the carpet, which raises its left corner. This can be considered a design flaw, because if the mouse lift-off height is set to a minimum, then when entering this zone, the sensor may stop reading the surface, jumping up on a hill.
The reverse side is made of the usual fine-pored rubber. Since the mat is quite light and small in size, the grip on the table surface is not the best. If you look closely, you can see the stitches of a thin transparent fishing line, with which the edges are sewn, and which ties the optical tape to the rim of the carpet. If you accidentally stretch your hand over it, the impressions will not be very pleasant.
Slim unsheathed USB cable 1.8 meters long. Both sides have anti-kink protection.
QcK Prism Cloth’s backlighting is weird. Two separate zones are officially declared (along the upper arc and along the lower one), however, in fact, when the colors are separated, they mix and form some kind of third one, moreover, with an arbitrary filling area of the optical fiber. Therefore, a more beautiful option would be to use synchronized colors in both zones. In addition, the controller’s LEDs are quite bright and can blind the user in the dark at full power. It’s good that at least the brightness can be adjusted.
The control program interface has been slightly redesigned. It is interesting that you can select the static glow mode only on separate zones. If they are linked together, then only the “breathing” or color change mode is available.
SteelSeries QcK Prism Cloth XL
The Prism Cloth XL is as big as its name suggests, and the manufacturer has made sure that the mat will endure the bumpy retail path. Inside the box there is a hexagonal cardboard core around which the surface is wound. In addition, the carpet is closed with plastic overlays on the outside and inside.
The dimensions of the surface turned out to be so large that it did not fit completely in our photo booth. Taking into account the controller, the size is 910x306x10 mm, of which the effective surface on which you can use the mouse is 880x295x4 mm.
The backlight controller is located in the same way as in the Prism Cloth Medium, but it no longer interferes with mouse movement, since, as a rule, it is located half a meter from it.
The edges stitched with transparent line and fiber optic tape look similar.
The thin unsheathed USB cable is two meters long. Both sides have anti-kink protection.
The backlight situation here is almost the same as in Prism Cloth Medium. Using two separate colors looks bad because they merge and form a third transitional shade. If you paint everything in one color or include breathing effects or color changes, then everything looks much better.
There are no significant differences in driver settings.
Ergonomics
Assessing the ergonomics of gaming mats from the QcK Prism series, it is worth noting that they all do an excellent job of their direct duty, namely, to provide an ideal surface texture for reading by an optical sensor. The height of the mouse separation can be set to the very minimum.
Both QcK Prism Cloths have the least slip resistance. On them, the manipulator floats with tangible inertia. Slightly more grippy is the polymer surface of the hard QcK Prism, and its rough-textured fabric side provides the most friction. Nothing interferes with the movement of the cable on all carpets.
Prism Cloth is the most comfortable in terms of height (only 4 mm), and you will have to get used to the hard Prism separately, since the difference from the table surface of 7 mm is clearly felt by the hand.
In terms of stability on the table, the first place can be given to Prism Cloth XL, especially if the keyboard is located on its left side. Next up is solid Prism. Its rubber base clings to the table very well, there is a greater chance of moving the removable cover on it than the body frame itself. And the last place belongs to Prism Cloth Medium — small size leads to the fact that sometimes it can be shifted with a sharp movement.
In terms of backlight quality, the solid version of Prism with its 12 illumination zones definitely wins. The surfaces of Prism Cloth against its background look significantly «paleer» in the literal and figurative sense of the word. In addition, the bright diodes in their controllers either blind the eyes, or, with a decrease in brightness, all edge illumination fades.
Another of the ergonomic features of Prism Cloth is that the case of their controllers lifts up the upper left corner of the carpet, this is especially felt on Prism Cloth Medium. And the fishing line with which the optical tape is sewn to the surface can rub the hand in certain situations.
Results
Based on the results of studying the QcK Prism line, I would venture to suggest that in their development of RGB carpets, SteelSeries is currently engaged in creating a completely “symmetrical” response to similar products from Razer. Perhaps it is worth looking not only at them, but looking around in search of more original ideas, because they literally “lie on the surface”.
It seems to me that the future of such gaming mats lies in the sphere of saturation with their useful functions. Backlit decoration is good, but not enough to justify the high cost. SteelSeries understand this and even tried to give the backlight the function of informing about game events. But after all, you can add a pass-through USB port, a smartphone holder, a cable holder, additional buttons for switching any commands, a thermal sensor, wireless charging, and a lot of things, in fact, even without a significant increase in the cost of the final product.
Now a few words about the carpets themselves. If you are looking for quality illumination, then the solid QcK Prism is the best choice. Of its shortcomings, one can note the high height of the carpet and the lack of spare removable surface pads. I’m not even sure that they can be purchased separately from the manufacturer. Other than that, it’s a decent, albeit expensive, product.
QcK Prism Cloth Medium is a controversial rug. Quite small in size, with edges stitched with a thin line that can rub the skin on the hand, too bright controller diodes, in fact, one common backlight zone with two stated, and even the controller case raises the upper left corner of the carpet up. In general, it can be taken for «beauty», but for FPS games at low sensor resolution, it will be clearly inconvenient.
QcK Prism Cloth XL is the ultimate novelty. Due to the large dimensions, it practically smooths out most of the shortcomings of Cloth Medium. The keyboard installed here will make the surface completely indestructible. And the cost of this product is only a little more. And what’s really done well here is the low-friction fabric.

Speed, convenience and of course RGB lighting — all three of these factors are perfectly woven into one large gaming space for your table
StealSeries is one of the few companies that easily takes and implements innovative technologies among its gaming devices. Modern gaming surfaces, or, as they are also called, carpets, have now become not only more comfortable and thin, but also acquired RGB backlighting to please market trends. The trend was started last year by Razer, and many have picked up this trend and are still carrying it. Today in the review is one of the largest gaming surfaces from SteelSeries — QcK Prism Cloth XL with RGB backlighting, which we will study in more detail.
Specification:
- Model: SteelSeries QcK Prism Cloth XL;
- Type: game surface for «mouse» manipulators;
- Surface type: microtextured fabric surface;
- Base: silicone rubber;
- Black color;
- Backlight: Two customizable backlight zones with 16.8 million colors;
- Software: SteelSeries Engine;
- Connection: wired, USB interface;
- Cable type: without braid;
- Cable length: 1.8 meters;
- Dimensions: 900 x 300 x 4 mm;
- Weight: 600 grams;
- Features: Support Gamesense, Prism Sync Lighting.
Packing and contents
The rug is packaged in a large cardboard box in SteelSeries brand colors. The package size is quite impressive, and the weight is 600 grams, which is a lot for a mouse pad.
The front of the package shows a full size rug with RGB lighting turned on. The bottom of the box contains a detailed technical description of the carpet. Here, for comparison, the size of a standard carpet is shown so that the buyer can visually assess the dimensions of the current offer. Printed on the top are updated examples of other SteelSeries gaming surfaces that are also available on the market.
The rug is carefully wrapped around a black hexagonal cardboard cylinder. From the outside, the carpet is covered with durable transparent plastic to protect the playing surface from unnecessary damage. As you understand, such precautions are due to the preservation of the integrity of the surface during transportation.
The informativeness of the packaging is realized perfectly, and, by and large, for this kind of product there is no need to do something special, but there is no superfluous information.
Includes:
- SteelSeries QcK Prism Cloth XL.
Features and appearance
The surface of the carpet is black and does not have any patterns, which is quite practical, because we know from experience that any applied pattern is destroyed over time and not only loses its aesthetic appearance, but can interfere with the manipulator.
The upper part of the carpet is made of microtextured fabric. The smooth and tightly woven surface lacks the special coating that has become quite common on most similar accessories from other manufacturers.
The base, or, as it can be called, the standard substrate, is made of rubberized material with guide notches that dampen any slips on a flat surface. With the current large size of 900 by 300 millimeters, it is rather problematic to move such a carpet in the heat of battle. Carpets of this size are placed on the entire surface of the table and are used to the maximum.
The cable has a rubber sheath and, as we said, exits the control box on the left side of the carpet. The cable is soft, pliable, 1.6 meters long, which is enough to place the carpet over the entire surface of the table and connect it to a personal computer.
The SteelSeries QcK Prism Cloth XL rainbow illumination is implemented using a transparent light guide sewn with a transparent strong thread around the perimeter of the carpet. The stitch is tight, but not enough to cover the light guide, and just enough to hold the light guide securely against the edge of the surface.
Operation
The size of the carpet allows you to place on the surface not only a mouse, but also a keyboard and even a headphone holder. Here the user has a place to roam. But the main goal of this accessory is the smooth and precise movement of the manipulator on the surface of the carpet.
In our case, the QcK Prism Cloth XL has a fast travel speed and precise control. The mouse does not stick and always moves confidently quickly across the surface of the carpet in all directions, and the large area of \u200b\u200bthe carpet gives maximum freedom of movement.
SteelSeries did the right thing. After reviewing similar offers on the market, they decided to create one of the brightest RGB backlights for gaming surfaces. And this is a real fact, not what you thought. Technically, the implementation is really done at a high level and with good brightness. Having the opportunity to manage two separate zones with advanced functionality, the user has a high-quality, stylish and useful solution.
The benefit lies in the fact that in addition to the standard RGB functionality inherent in all surfaces of this kind, the player can attach a certain illumination to the events taking place in games, which gives a large scope for settings and opportunities to signal the user about certain moments in game.
Software
Branded software from SteelSeries (Engine 3) has long been known to the owners of the devices of this company. Its functionality allows you to make detailed settings for any device connected to a personal computer or laptop.
However, in the case of a playing surface with settings, you can’t go wild. In fact, we are only asked to adjust the brightness and color range of the two zones. You can experiment, of course, with effects, but this will quickly get boring, since their arsenal is not great.
The two RGB lighting zones are highlighted and configured separately using the compact color editor.
But in the «engine applications» tab, you can link your own or a popular game from the list to a specific lighting function. In this case, you will receive a specific light indication with specific actions in the game. The proprietary software already has settings for CS:GO, Utopia 9, Dota 2.
Why is it convenient? The fact that the carpet is always in front of your eyes, which you can’t say, for example, about a mouse that is covered with a palm. And it is quite easy to miss an important moment in the game in such cases. The user can bind any color to a specific moment in the game. For example, when your health is rapidly falling and it’s time to react to it. Well, or when you have a large enough arsenal and you can spend it for the time being, again, until the warning lights up.
All this functionality is more than useful, bright color indication during game events may not be a necessity, but it brings its own elements of help, support and fun during the game.
Conclusion
Certainly, the novelty breathed a rainbow into the range of gaming surfaces from SteelSeries. High-quality materials, excellent performance of the backlight and excellent glide of the manipulator — all this not only pleases the eye, but also inspires confidence that this will continue.
Of course, «evil tongues» will not forget to mention a very close resemblance to the Razer Goliathus Chroma Extended. But although the price tag of these models is close, the QcK Prism Cloth XL implementation comes out on top due to the quality software-based support and implementation capabilities.
Pros:
- Quality materials;
- Large area of the playing surface;
- Bright RGB backlight;
- Convenient software;
- Useful indication in games.
Cons:
- Not detected.
Review SteelSeries QcK Prism (63391). Play mat with two covers and backlight
When choosing a gaming mouse, it is important to pay attention not only to the sensor installed in it, software support, additional buttons, but also to the surface on which it will move in the future. Modern gaming mats are no less interesting than the rest of the peripherals in terms of the complexity of execution and the options offered. As an example, the SteelSeries QcK Prism being tested today, in addition to customizable lighting, offers the ability to select the type of work surface.
By the time of publication, it is already widely available in Russian stores, the list of offers is presented in a table compiled on the basis of data from the Yandex.Market service.
Equipment
Supplied SteelSeries QcK Prism in a box with a characteristic design. Inside the rug is fixed on a rigid substrate.
The kit includes a user manual.
Appearance
The SteelSeries QcK Prism consists of two main parts: the base and the detachable work cover unit. Its overall dimensions are 357x292x9mm.
The inner part of the mat is removable, one of the sides is fabric, the other is plastic. So the user himself will be able to choose the optimal type of coverage for current tasks and preferences.
The presence of a side around the perimeter at the base eliminates its displacement during active operation. After installation, this removable part can only be visually determined by the transparent edging.
When connected to a computer, this area is illuminated by a fill light. Colors and scenarios can then be managed by the user using the SteelSeries common control center.
This is a significant plus in favor of choosing the peripherals of one manufacturer, which simplifies interaction and synchronization in the future. Also, the manufacturer for his mice offers a ready-made preset of sensor settings for his line of rugs.
The connection cable for the SteelSeries QcK Prism is located on the right. The exit point is additionally protected from kink and kink.
The inside of the base has a textured pattern for added grip for a removable cover.
The edges of the removable part are carefully processed, visually different types of materials are perfectly matched to each other.
The reverse side of the mat body is rubberized. On a flat surface, it is stable, does not move.
Soft
For control, the SteelSeries Engine 3 common control center is used. The SteelSeries QcK Prism mat is automatically detected. When going to the full settings, the user will be able to adjust the colors of 12 zones separately.
There is a ready-made set of lighting effects with adjustments to the color palette and effects speed. Templates for backlight operation and a brightness adjustment scale are available.
Of the interesting, we note the possibility of a connection between the color and the behavior of the backlight with what is happening in games. For example, this way you can control the state of health, armor and remaining ammunition.
Tests
We tested the SteelSeries QcK Prism not only with the new SteelSeries Rival 600, SteelSeries Sensei 310 and SteelSeries Rival 110 mice, but also with a number of competitor models with different sensors. Both types of coverage have proven themselves well. Fabric part with additional coating treatment, sliding on it is easy and well controlled.
The plastic part has a textured pattern with small indentations over the entire area. To obtain ideal sensor performance on this type of coverage, it is recommended to calibrate the sensor with the lift-off distance set.
The location of the connection cable exit point in the corner of the mat allows you to change the orientation of the sides of the mat on the desktop. The cable will not interfere with this. It does not move even with sudden movements of the mouse. It is still too early to talk about the wear resistance of the coating, but during the long-term operation, we did not have any prerequisites indicating its poor quality.

The backlight does not look clumsy, at night it adds a visible contour to the work area. When using a keyboard, headphones and mouse from this manufacturer, the backlight behavior can be synchronized, creating an impressive effect.
SteelSeries QcK Prism Summary
The SteelSeries QcK Prism is a great choice when looking for a quality gaming mouse cover. The difference from competitors offering RGB-lit mats was the thoughtful implementation of the settings and behavior of the backlight. Definitely noteworthy is the possibility of choosing the type of coverage. Only the cost can make you doubt the expediency of a purchase, it is higher than that of simple rugs, but how can you deny yourself the pleasure of daily use of an ergonomic and functional accessory?

User Guide
Use the Object Selection, Quick Selection, or Magic Wand tools to make quick selections in Photoshop.
Use a selection to define an area that can be further edited to enhance images and compositions. You can quickly select the desired area using a variety of selection tools in Photoshop.
Update Photoshop
The new Object Selection tool simplifies the process of selecting a single object or fragments of an object in an image, whether it be people, cars, furniture, pets, clothes, and more. Simply draw a rectangle or lasso around an object, and the Object Selection tool will automatically select the desired object within the specified area. Selections created with the Object Selection tool are now more accurate and retain more detail around the edges of the selection. That is, you spend less time getting those perfect highlights.
You can access the Object Selection tool from the following locations:
- From the main application toolbar in Photoshop
- From the toolbar in the workspace Selection and mask
Does the Object Selection tool not appear on the toolbar? See Tools Disappeared from the Toolbox.
To select objects in an image using the Object Selection tool:
-
Select the Object Selection tool from the toolbar.
-
Make sure the Object Finder is enabled and hover over the desired object
In the Options Bar, make sure the Object Finder is enabled (default behavior: ON). Then simply hover over the image object you want to select. Photoshop automatically selects the object when you hover over it. Click to create a selection.
If you don’t want to use automatic selection, turn off the Object Finder and select the selection mode Mode: Rectangle or Lasso and drag the mouse along the object to create a selection.
- Rectangle: Drag the pointer to define a rectangular area around the object.
- Lasso: Draw an approximate lasso line outside the object.
-
Subtract or add selection
On the Options Bar, choose one of the following selection options: Create, Add To, Subtract From, or Intersect With Selection. If no option is selected, the default is Create. When the initial selection is complete, the setting automatically changes to Append To.
Append to Selection: Hold down SHIFT or select Append to Selection in the Options Bar, then hover over or draw a new rectangle or lasso around the missing area. Repeat this process for any missing areas that you want to add to the selection.
Subtract from selection: There are two options for subtracting from selection.
- Use the Subtract From Selection option in the Options Bar: Hold down the Option (Mac)/ALT (Win) key or choose the Subtract From Selection command in the Options Bar, then hover or draw a precise rectangle or lasso around the unwanted area.
- Activate the Object Subtraction option in Advanced Options (gear icon in the options bar) : In particular, it is recommended to use the Subtract object option when removing background areas inside the currently selected object. The Object Subtraction tool works in much the same way as the Object Selection tool, only it performs the opposite function. Set the Subtract Object option in the Options Bar to ON. Hold down the Option (Mac) / Alt (Win) key or choose the Subtract From Selection command in the Options Bar, then hover over or draw a rough rectangle or lasso around the unwanted area.
-
Select object selection options
Sample from all layers: Creates a selection based on all layers, not just the currently selected layer.
Hard Edges : Enables hard edges on the selection border.
-
Further refine the selection edge in the Select and Mask workspace
To further customize the selection borders, view the selection against different backgrounds or as a mask, click Select and Mask in the Options Bar.
Also, use the Selection Feedback dialog box to share information about a selection made with the Object Selection tool. This will help us improve the product.
Improved hair selection
In the June 2022 release of Photoshop 23.4, the Object Selection tool has been updated to improve hair selection in human portrait images. The Object Selection tool can now recognize portraits and apply hair refinement to achieve the same quality mask as that provided by the Select Subject function.
Simply open a portrait image and select the Object Selection tool from the toolbox and make your choice by clicking on the portrait or by lassoing or creating an area around the person and get a mask that captures all the details of the hair.
After making a selection with the Object Selection tool, you can further and more naturally refine mask results using the Refine Hair option in the Selection and Mask workspace in the Options panel for images that are not human portraits, such as images domestic animals, wild animals or fur products.
Mask all objects on a layer with one click
Save time with this method, which uses the power of Adobe Sensei to create masks for all objects on the desired layer with one click.
Choose Layer > Mask All Objects and see how Photoshop easily creates masks for all objects found on a layer with a single click.
Select «Mask All Objects» A layer mask is created for all objects found in a layer with one click.
How is the Select Object tool different from the Select Object command?
The Object Selection tool is useful when you want to select only one of the objects, or a portion of an object in an image that contains multiple objects. And the «Select Subject» command is designed to select all the main objects in the image.
For more information about the Select Item command, see the next section of this article below.
Optimized for improved selection when processing portraits in Photoshop 21.2 (June 2020 release)
The Select Item command allows you to select the most prominent items in an image with a single mouse click. The Highlight Object feature, powered by advanced machine learning technology, is designed to identify a variety of objects in an image: people, animals, vehicles, toys, etc.
-
Automatic selection of objects
The Select item command automatically selects noticeable objects in the image. To access the Select Item command, do the following:
- While editing an image, choose Select > Subject.
- With the Object Selection, Quick Selection, or Magic Wand tool active, click Select Object in the options bar.
- When the Select Object or Quick Selection tool is active in the Select and Mask workspace, click Select Object in the options bar.
Beginning with Photoshop 21.2 (June 2020 release), Select Subject is content-aware and applies new custom algorithms when it detects a person in an image. When creating a selection in portrait images, the edging around the hair has been greatly improved for added detail. To temporarily disable content-aware processing, press and hold the 9 key1366 Shift when using command Select item .
-
Add or subtract a selection
Use any of the Selection tools with the Add To Selection or Subtract From Selection options to clean up the original selection as needed. See the document Customizing Selected Areas Manually.
-
Further refine the selection edge in the Select and Mask workspace
Choose Selection > Selection and Mask to open the image in the Selection and Mask workspace. Use the tools and sliders in the workspace to further refine your selection.
See document Highlight and Mask workspace.
Select Item Cloud Service
Highlight desired areas more precisely and get high-quality images thanks to processing in the cloud with Select Item service.
To get the results you want, simply go to Image Processing in the Preferences dialog and choose the mode that best suits you, either Cloud or Device.
Switching to the Select Item cloud service To process in the Select Item service, select Device mode or Cloud mode.
Selecting can also be done using the Select and Mask workspace.
Tool
«Quick Selection» allows you to
quickly «paint» a selection with a customizable round brush tip.

-
To change the brush tip size, click the drop-down
the Brush menu in the options bar and enter a size in pixels or use the slider to set it.
Using the Size drop-down menu options, you can set the brush tip size sensitivity
to pen or copy wheel pressure. When creating a selection, click the button with the right square
bracket (]) to increase the size of the brush tip of the Quick Selection tool,
click the button with the left square bracket ([) to decrease it. -
Select options for the Quick Selection tool.
Sample from All Layers: Creates a selection based on all layers, not just the currently selected layer.
Enhance Edge: Reduces the jaggedness and blockiness of the selection border. The Enhance Edge option automatically moves the border of the selection toward the edges of the image and applies some of the edge refinement techniques available for manual use in the Select and Mask workspace.
-
You can draw inside the part of the image you want to highlight. As you draw, the selection area expands. If updating is slow, continue dragging, allowing time for the selection to complete. When drawing near the edges of a shape, the selection expands so that its border follows the shape’s outline.
Draw with the Quick Selection tool to expand the selection
- To subtract a portion from the selection, click Subtract From in the Options Bar and drag over an existing selection.
- To temporarily switch between Add and Subtract modes, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac).
- To change the tool cursor, choose Edit > Preferences > Cursors > Drawing Cursors (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > Cursors > Drawing Cursors (Mac). The Normal Brush Tip is the default cursor for the Quick Selection tool, with plus and minus signs indicating the selection mode.
If you stop dragging the cursor and then click in the adjacent area
or drag in it, the selection will expand to include

Mac OS X Lion Overview: Part 2 — Quick Look and the Desktop
Quick Look
One of the great improvements in Lion is the updated Quick Look, which now displays all the previews much more conveniently. Also, do not forget about the change in the background color compared to Snow Leopard.
Most of the users have used this feature quite often, but some rough thinking prevented them from realizing the potential of Quick Look. For example, in Snow Leopard, when viewing photos with different resolutions, they were sometimes displayed incorrectly. There is no such bug in Lion anymore, apparently the programmers decided to seriously improve Quick Look, seeing it as a promising technology. If desired, users can use Quick Look in full screen mode to work with large documents and images.
Of course, the changes have affected not only the new appearance — now WebKit is available to developers, thanks to which it is possible to view websites directly from Finder and Spotlight. Do not forget about the ability to interact with content in Quick Look , because now the pages are fully interactive, but you still have to launch Safari to fully work. The integration of Quick Look with Spotlight is just great, I think that almost anyone who has ever tried this feature is unlikely to ever want to turn it off.
Cupertino hasn’t forgotten about integration with email client and iChat, with Quick Look you can view content in these applications.
Desktop, Menbar and Application Windows
The desktop itself has remained the same as almost all Mac OS X users remember it, at the bottom you can place the applications you often use to launch them. It’s really not clear why the default settings are set to such a size of application icons in Launchpad, but do not forget that it can be easily changed in the settings. One of the useful innovations can be considered the function of displaying running applications, which now shows running applications much better.
The menu in Lion has not changed much, users can still access important controls. However, it must be recognized that some changes may not be to the liking of most users. For example, if in Snow Leopard they could select stealth mode in the Bluetooth settings directly from the main control menu. Now this switch is gone and when you turn on Bluetooth, anyone can find your Mac. I hope that in one of the updates this feature will be added again.
The second reason to start the standard menu is the updated information in the «About This Mac» sub-item. The basic information about the system looks the same as in all previous versions of Mac OS X, but the main differences can be seen only after clicking the More Info button. Some, expecting to see the familiar System Profiler, will be very surprised to see a completely new menu in this application. To be honest, this implementation of providing information about the system is somewhat reminiscent of iOS, but still a little more informative than the one that can be found in the mobile version of the operating system. It is quite convenient to display the occupied space on your hard drive, now you can find out which files take up the most space from you and, if necessary, get rid of them. You can also find out the amount of installed RAM and in which slot it is installed. If the user has there is a problem with the computer, then it can go to the Apple technical support website, links to which are placed directly in the system information.
One of the most unexpected and pleasant surprises for me was a selection of background images that can be found in Mac OS X Lion. In this matter, the Cupertinos have always surpassed the Redmons, but this time they managed to make just a giant leap. The wallpapers are selected so high quality that it is simply impossible to find fault with them and each user will definitely find something that will touch him to the quick, forcing him to choose this particular photo as a background image.
Two new types of screensaver look no less impressive, even though the default one still doesn’t look very presentable. The iTunes and iPhoto screensavers are created by really talented designers, allowing you to enjoy a beautiful view of your photos in a slideshow, and the iTunes screensaver displays the covers from your library, using very beautiful swipe effects.
Many users may remember how inconvenient the original window scaling system in Mac OS X Snow Leopard was, some even installed special third-party utilities that allowed windows to be resized by simply «stretching» from any edge of the window, but Lion has this feature since from the very beginning, now you no longer have to install third-party software, as Apple programmers have taken care of such a trifle.
