Qck edge vs qck heavy: Reddit — Dive into anything

How To Select A Mousepad

Finding the right mousepad isn’t nearly as technical or difficult as shopping for a new headset or mouse. However, with such a variety of SteelSeries mousepads, how do you know which is the best for you?

Let’s be honest, selecting a mousepad isn’t the hardest decision in the world. But, everyone has different preferences and setups, so you may want to consider the following when making your decision:

Family

The SteelSeries mousepads are now grouped into five different families. Here’s a quick summary of each:

QcK Series
Our award-winning gold standard mousepad line. No frills, just sleek and simple micro-woven cloth that works with all types of sensors, and multiple sizes available.

QcK Heavy Series
Three times as thick as the QcK Series, which provides more wrist comfort, and multiple sizes available.

QcK Hard Series
A hard plastic surface ideal for laser sensors and those seeking the lowest possible friction.

QcK Edge Series
Multiple sizes with stitched edges to prevent peeling or fraying.

QcK Prism Cloth Series
Multiple sizes with programmable RGB lighting.

Size

Do you have a small or limited desk space? Or perhaps you’re a laptop user and don’t always stay in one place?
The QcK — Small might be your best bet. Don’t be fooled by the title — it’s fairly standard size that you’ve probably used before. It’s great for everyday use, and a good choice for most gamers.

(Pictured: not a real mousepad, unless you have an X-ACTO knife.)

Does your mousepad sit partially under your keyboard, making it lopsided? If you’re using a large mousepad, you may need to go smaller (see above), or opt for an extra long mousepad that can run under your entire keyboard, preventing it from feeling uneven. This includes:

  • QcK Edge — XL
  • QcK Heavy — XXL
  • QcK Prism — XL

Are you an FPS or low DPI player who needs to swing your arm across the mousepad for big 360° turns? Consider these mousepads for those big sweeps of your mouse:

  • QcK — Large
  • QcK Edge — Large
  • QcK Heavy — Large

Do you want full-desk coverage for the ultimate battlestation flex? Check out our new line of desktop QcKs to give your setup a clean look with unlimited tracking space for gaming:

  • QcK 3XL — 5XL
  • QcK Prism 3XL — 5XL

Durability & comfort

I’ll rock one mousepad for years at a time, and the only wear and tear I notice is a bit of dirt. However, others find their mousepads fraying and peeling on the edges where their wrists create friction. If you find yourself peeling through mousepads, definitely consider one from the QcK Edge series. The stitched edges are basically impossible to fray or peel, so you won’t need a new mousepad for years to come.

Different people have different desk and chair heights, arm positions, and more. Some folks find that they prefer a bit of extra padding under their mouse wrist. The QcK Heavy series offers three times the thickness of the standard QcK and other mousepads, allowing for more comfort for the arm and wrist.

Aesthetic

Your setup should look clean and modern, and we’ve taken care of most of the guesswork there. The main line of SteelSeries mousepads have an all-black, performance-focused style (which can be easily washed using a dark, damp towel).

It’s completely up to you to decide if RGB matters to you. Personally, I didn’t hop on the RGB train until very recently, but I couldn’t say no once I saw the Prism Cloth XL:

Once you’ve considered all these things, go ahead and pull the trigger, because you’re freaking set. Happy gaming!

Is qck+ faster than qck heavy?

JavaScript is disabled. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.

Previous mousepad was a «used» qck heavy I got from a friend.

Recently I accidentally damaged the mousepad and purchased a new qck, and this time I decided the 2mm qck+ will be good enough because my desk is even.

However, today I got my qck+ and it’s TOO fast! Its surface is supposed to be the same as the heavy, but it’s definitely much faster.

Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new qck heavy, or will qck+ slow down over time? And if it does, how long does it usually take? It’s unplayable for me at the moment.

it will slow down overtime definitely, to the point where it’s actually going to get inconsistent in most areas of the mousepad, qck is just not a good mousepad tbh so just wait and it will get slower.

Try putting the QcK+ on top of the QcK Heavy.

It is the same top surface, just that your mouse isn’t sinking into the pad makes it feel faster. As above, you can just put it on top of your old pad.
And no matter which QCK you use, I have to agree that the surface will wear out in a couple months.

It’s a mixture of the mousepad being brand new and the fact that it’s thin so that the surface is a little more ‘solid’ feeling

I wouldn’t worry about it, you’ll get used to it and it’ll wear a little over time.

I’ll give it month and if I’m still not satisfied by then, I’ll just buy another heavy. I know people say there are better options, but I don’t want to care about mousepads/mice too much. Qck lineup worked for me in the past, so it will work for me in the future.

I agree with that, I’ve tried dozens of pads and qck is what I stick with only now. It just works

I must be out of the loop but I never felt a difference in the speed of my mousepad after time

Alright, after using the qck+ for another couple hours, I found one more downside of the qck+ compared to the heavy, after which I instantly ordered a new qck heavy. Since the qck+ is so thin at 2mm, my arm comes fully in contact with my wooden desk, resulting in a sticky feeling to the skin and this disturbs me ingame. This never happened when I used the qck heavy because the heavy was 6mm in thickness, so my arm would be in an angle, and the only part of my arm touching the desk was my elbow. I know that I can put my qck+ on top of my old heavy, but that option doesn’t appeal to me that much.

For me the 6mm of Heavy feels really bad with the razor sharp edge, unless you use super high sensitivity and don’t have to move your arm around.

Is yours the recent one with SS logos printed on the bottom? Mine is the old one and it doesn’t feel sharp at the edge. Maybe it wore down with use.

Damn, maybe I should return the new one and just buy a used one or something…. so today I learn that something can be better used than new.

It can be.
1. Basically they are the same cloth surface. But the cloth SteelSeries purchases can have some variation in quality. So the feel you get may differ a little.
2. Qck Heavy has a very thick rubber base, while QcK+ has a quite thin base. If you press your mouse hard on a thick rubber base, the mouse will ‘sink’ in the mousepad more than it does on the thinner one. In this case you’ll get more friction when you move it.

your definition of better is subjective, if you ever tried gliding your mouse across the entire mousepad you would notice how inconsistent it is because of all the dirt and dust that it has accumulated over the years, so in there case slower is worse just because of inconsistent glide, a good example of good slow glide are mouse pads like the artisan zero xsoft or the zowie g-sr which both have a lot more consistent glide and don’t wear out as easily.

I do notice the inconsistency across the surface, but that doesn’t bother me. Also I can feel the same inconsistency on my G-SR (same area as the Qck Heavy, too-upper middle part of the pad is slower than the rest) which is highly acclaimed in terms of quality, so I’m guessing it happens with literally every mousepad. The part that is used mainly will wear out and will become slower than other parts. It’s only natural.

This doesn’t bother me because of the obvious reason : the part that is used most of the time, is ALWAYS the part that is used most of the time. If the glide is consistent in that small area of the pad I use for 90% of my gameplay, it’s no problem.
