Metro: Exodus will be released on February 15 with ray tracing, DLSS and other updates
Almost six years have passed since the game Metro: Ray of Hope impressed gamers with great gameplay and amazing graphics. However, now Metro: Exodus promises fans of the franchise to reveal the story from a completely new side and introduce new gameplay opportunities.
NVIDIA collaborated with 4A Games on Part Ray of Hope and Metro 2033 , and we are pleased to announce the continuation of our partnership in the development of Metro: Exodus . This means that Metro: Exodus will be released on February 15th with ray tracing technology, DLSS, HairWorks, PhysX, Ansel and Highlights, providing GeForce RTX users with unrivaled PC gameplay.
“Using a ray-traced global illumination effect, RTX delivers vastly improved natural lighting to create a richer, more immersive, and more realistic world with levels of graphic clarity never before achieved.” – Dean Sharp, General Manager director of 4A Games.
Metro Exodus introduces a real-time ray-traced Global Illumination effect for the first time, allowing scenes to be naturally lit using the color of the sun and realistically reflecting the position of the sun depending on the time of day. The technology delivers realistic levels of brightness and shading, greatly enhancing image quality, realism and immersion, and bringing graphics and atmosphere closer to «Metro: Exodus» to reality more than any other modern game. Shaded scenes will be so dark that you will need to use the in-game flashlight.
In this scene, ray tracing creates realistic lighting by naturally shading the environment around the soldier
What’s more, this is the first game to use Ambient Occlusion with ray tracing, allowing 4A developers to compute and render on screen Ambient Occlusion contact shadows based on the geometry of the scene. This allows you to show that objects are on the ground and create more realistic shadows where two objects meet or for objects that block light.
Ray tracing creates realistic shading in the scene: notice the shadows around the clock, on the tulle and curtains and on other elements
These ray tracing effects together create the atmosphere of the game: they naturally shadow the ominous wastelands and, on the contrary, illuminate other locations in bright sunlight. Every dark corner where monsters roam and lurk will have to be examined with a flashlight, and one must be very careful not to become a dinner for the creatures «Metro: Exodus» .
This significant difference provides a completely new experience throughout the gameplay in Metro Exodus .
Metro Exodus features two levels of detail for ray tracing: High and Ultra. It’s hard to tell the difference in motion, so we recommend playing with High detail to get a faster framerate. Of course, you can turn on DLSS anti-aliasing and get up to 30% more gaming performance.
DLSS anti-aliasing is most needed at maximum graphics card loads and is available at the following settings:
- 3840×2160: Ray tracing on/off: RTX 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti
- 2560×1440: Ray tracing on: All RTX
- 1920×1080: Ray tracing on: RTX 2060 and 2070
graphics cards
