AMD Ryzen 5 7600X is 11% faster than the Core i9-12900K
AMD has unveiled its Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, and AMD certainly started off strong when it announced that the Ryzen 5 7600X is better than the 12900K in some situations.

Final word
Ryzen 5 7600X is 11% faster than the Core i9-12900K: AMD recently officially unveiled its Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, AMD held an event named “together we advance PCs” on its YouTube channel on August 29th, 2022. This is where details about Zen 4 and AM5 were officially announced.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su took to the stage to give us the rundown on what we can expect from a few CPUs in the Zen 4 lineup. Whilst Lisa Su focused more on the Ryzen 9 7950X, there was some interesting information to be heard about the Ryzen 5 7600x.
Ryzen 5 7600X is 11% faster than the Core i9-12900K
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su Introduced us to the performance of all four Zen 4 7000 series CPUs in the form of Geekbench 5.4 single-threaded benchmarks. These benchmark results show a massive performance uplift over the 12900K
Each CPU performed better than the Core i9-12900k in this scenario, with the Core i9-12900K scoring a respectable 2040 points. Even the base Zen 4 processor toppled this score, the 7600X scored a very impressive 2175 points.
Intel could be in trouble this time around. AMD has always held the throne in terms of multi-core performance, but AMD could be taking the single-core performance crown, too.
As everyone knows by now, faster single-threaded performance is better for gaming applications.
Real-world results
AMD then went on to show the 7600X’s performance in a real-world gaming scenario. The game used for this benchmark was F1 2022, not a particularly demanding game graphically but it can put a strain on the CPU. This is due to all the AI and simulation components of this game.
Throughout the test, the 7600X consistently delivered around 420 FPS on average, leading us to believe that the test resolution was most likely 1080P. Since testing in this resolution allows for higher frame rates without being GPU bottlenecked too early.
The end result shows that the Ryzen 5 7600X, AMD’s mainstream CPU, proved to be 11% faster than the competition’s flagship i9-12900K. Most of this performance lends its hand to the massive 13% IPC increases over Zen 3 CPUs of the last generation. AMD only predicted a 10% increase in IPC at first.
The results of the two CPU benchmarks are as follows:
Intel Core i9-12900K
The Intel Core i9-12900K scored well in the F1 2022 benchmark, rendering 45,558 frames in total, with a minimum, average, and maximum FPS of 280, 379, and 430 FPS respectively.
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Obviously, the 7600X did a little better when faced with F1 2022. The Ryzen 5 7600X rendered 50,281 frames in total, with a minimum, average, and maximum FPS of 299, 419, and 477 FPS respectively.
Both CPUs were tested on High graphical settings, with TAA and FidelityFX Sharpening enabled. And with a screen resolution of 1920×1080.
The GPU used isn’t very clear, all we have is “AMD Radeon Graphics 16.0 GB” this could be either the 6800, 6800XT, 6900XT, or the 6950XT. However, we’re going to guess it was the 6950XT, as you don’t want your CPU performance hindered by graphical limitations.
We’re not suggesting that this be the “12900K killer” CPU from AMD, but we are impressed at the amount of performance that can be squeezed out of it in certain scenarios. Beating the 12900K at all is an impressive feat in and of itself.
Intel Vs AMD
This puts Intel in trouble, not only is AMD quickly closing in on the single-threaded performance throne, but Intel has nothing to show on the development of the 13th gen “Raptor Lake” CPUs.
In fact, the very same day Intel plans to unveil its “Raptor Lake” CPUs, is the same day AMD fully releases its Zen 4 CPUs. So Intel will announce, but amd will have products on shelves ready to go.
Surely, the impatient among us will just opt for AMD? That’s the plan, right? There’s certainly a lot to love about Zen 4. However, there is one thing holding AMD back in the eyes of consumers, and that’s the cost of upgrading their system to make the Zen 4 lineup compatible with their rig.
Intel incurred this charge too, but at least Intel offered DDR4 versions of LGA 1700 motherboards to ease the expense of upgrading, AMD seems to be DDR5 only.
We have a whole page on AMD vs Intel if you’d like to check it out.
Ryzen 5 7600X release date
When can you get your hands on this all-powerful CPU? Well, the release date of all Ryzen 7000 series Zen 4 CPUs was confirmed by AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su as September 27th, 2022. This is the date we expect to see processors on the shelves.
