SALWAR SUITS FOR STYLE & CONVENIENCE

Indisputably the queen of all Indian attires is the Salwar Kameez. Predominantly worn in North India and now popular in all parts of the country and world, Salwar Suits are as suitable for everyday wear as they are for ceremonial ones. Here is an attire that flatters every body type and is the modern woman’s best friend. In fact, no two ensembles are the same, as multiple colors, length of kameez, styling, prints and threadwork brings forth the Salwar Suit in its zillion avatars.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVE SALWAR SUIT?

There are some basic styling cues you should watch out for when picking a Salwar Suit. If the kameez is long, wear it with churidars, trousers or palazzos. Short kurtas look feminine with salwars and patialas. While the traditional versions look chic and gracious, try new-age varieties like Layered Salwar Suits, Jacketed Kurtas, Kameez with Asymmetrical hemlines or the floor-sweeping silhouettes. Utsav Fashion has a whole range of A-line Suits, Punjabi Suits, Anarkalis, Abaya style Suits.

NAME THE OCCASION, AND IT WORKS

Salwar Suits are ideal as office wear since they allow mobility and minimalism. Straight cut Kameez and A-line Suits look very dignified in earthy colors with metallic jhumkas as a piece of jewelry. Out for a casual get together? Dress in Pakistani Suit with sleek trousers for a cool aura. When there’s a party or festivity on the cards, bring out your fancy ensembles in bright colors, pretty thread work and vibrant dupattas. In Punjabi weddings, the Salwar Suit is the attire of choice. Preferred in red, green and other dominant shades with lavish Zari, Cutdana, Beads and Resham work, Salwar Kameez is worn with heavy jewelry, matching bangles and swinging plaits.

THE ELONGATED SILHOUETTES

While the imagery associated with Salwar Kameez is of a convenient but simple attire, it has recently evolved into Anarkalis and Abaya style Suits, both inspired from a glorious Mughal lineage. Both these silhouettes are almost ankle-length, flaunt heavily embroidered yokes, Patch Patti hemlines and mostly come in full sleeves and a variety of necklines. Since the fall and flow of these ensembles is important, it is better to avoid stiff fabrics and get them designed in Art Silk, Georgette, soft Cotton and Net. If you don’t like too much embellishment, take a cue from Floral, Abstract, Geometric and Abstract prints. They look pretty and peppy on all women.

At any time of the year, in any weather, life is in full swing on the Old Arbat. People walk, wander, laugh, stare at street performances, cartoons with caricatures and, of course, eat in a variety of cafes and restaurants. I recently visited one such establishment with the glib name « Sweet life . This DJ-cafe is located at the very beginning of the street, in house number 9. The room is small, basement. The interior is interesting, sometimes unusual. Two halls can accommodate twenty tables, there is a lot of red brick around, a lot of free space, motley furniture, TVs on the walls. In one corner there was a booth for a DJ, in the other — an aquarium, clad in a wall of rough light wood, and a closet-door, in which the employees of the establishment periodically disappear. Yes, and a moped at the entrance.

There are few people on Sunday evening, only three tables are occupied, and two of them were having fun with tea and hookahs. The menu is very restrained and mixed, the set is recognizably standard: sushi rolls, borscht, pizza, beef stroganoff and so on. There is no particular enthusiasm when choosing, but there is also no sadness, which cannot be said about food. She is mediocre in Dolce Vita.

Light spots are there, «Borsh with veal and iva» for example. The soup is good, rich, thick. Or pizza — the dough is thin, not limp, the sauce is correct, not sour, not sharp. The rest, alas, is worse. The “traditional meat hodgepodge with smoked meats” turned out to be too fatty, and the taste of bacon (or rather, lard) interrupted everything else. «Julienne with porcini mushrooms in bechamel sauce» looked good, but insipid. But the “Grilled Veal Medallion” even looked miserable, while the meat itself turned out to be dry, tough and cut with difficulty. I was not pleased at all with «Cod in a crispy crust» (or rather, in a sluggish batter of a sadly white color). There were so many bones in the fish fillet that it was simply dangerous to eat it.

Service is also not going well. It is diligent and good-natured, but the skill of a single waiter is not enough. He pours wine without offering to try it, carries water and drinks for about twenty minutes, gives out dishes as it turns out, he is not familiar with the recipe and menu.

The result is this.
