Gaming PCs have come a long way. These days, you don’t need a powerhouse of a computer to play many modern games, but being able to play a game is not the same as experiencing it in all its glory. This distinction is repeatedly driven home whenever a major new game is released, and few games in 2023 have drawn as much attention as Hogwarts Legacy.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the video game landscape (or were recently hit with the Memory Charm), Hogwarts Legacy is the latest game developed by Avalanche Software (the studio best known for Disney Infinity). Unlike other gaming entries set in the magical world of Harry Potter, though, Hogwarts Legacy takes place a good century before Harry Potter, Voldemort, or even Dumbledor apparated onto the scene. The game is an RPG that will let players make their own Hogwarts student, take classes, and play a key role in the 1890s goblin rebellion.

Hogwarts Legacy was originally supposed to be released as far back as 2021, bay a series of delays pushed the game all the way to its upcoming 2023 debut. Those delays were sad news at the time, but they ultimately gave developer Avalanche an opportunity to polish Hogwarts Legacy.

Of course, the gaming hardware landscape changed significantly during that wait. Scalpers and chip shortages greatly reduced the availability of gaming-critical components (though stocks have increased as of late). Still, those shortages and the delays of Hogwarts Leagcy‘s PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions have left a lot of fans wondering if their PC will be powerful enough to run the game. To help you answer that question, here are the two Hogwarts Legacy PC spec requirements you need to know about.

Hogwarts Legacy: Minimum PC

Requirements

If you just want to play Hogwarts Legacy on your PC and aren’t looking for 4K resolution at 120 FPS, you won’t need very powerful hardware. The following is the bare minimum you will need to run the game on PC:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel core i5-6600 (3.3Ghz) or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 (3.2Ghz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB or AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 85 GB available space

If your computer meets these specs, you will be able to play Hogwarts Legacy at low settings and 720p resolution with decent, but stable, 30fps. While the game is best played on an SSD, an HDD will also work in a pinch.

Hogwarts Legacy:

Recommended PC Requirements

If you want to push Hogwarts Legacy to its limits, you will need significantly beefier components. The following setup will let you explore Hogwarts in all its ray-traced glory:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 (3.2Ghz) or AMD Ryzen 5 36– (3.6Ghz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce 1080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or INTEL Arc A770
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 85 GB available space

If your gaming PC is close to, at, or exceeds those specs, you will be able to play Hogwarts Legacy on high settings at 1080p and 60fps. Although, if you are aiming for the best experience, Avalanche recommends using an SSD to make sure all the game’s textures and levels load as quickly as possible.

While the above requirements sound daunting, they are actually more than attainable. If you own a computer that was top of the line no more than several years old, you should be able to play the game on low or medium settings, while modern budget computers you can purchase at your local Best Buy surpass all of the recommended requirements. Even a Steam Deck will be able to play Hogwarts Legacy. However, anyone who wants to max out the game and play it at 4K and 60FPS will need a PC powered by an Intel Core i7-107000K and an Nvidia RTX 3090Ti (or some dragon heartstring).

Finally, while these are the game’s official hardware requirements, please note that nobody has gotten the chance to test the game on PC and share their findings. As such, it’s entirely possible that the game will suffer from performance issues that ultimately raise the minimum requirements. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to see exactly how well the PC version of the game performs.

Is your PC too tarnished to run Elden Ring?

Bandai Namco

Joseph Yaden

As we approach the launch of Elden Ring, it’s important to know if your PC can handle it. Now that developer FromSoftware has revealed the game’s PC requirements, it’s much clearer how demanding this game will be, at least from a technical standpoint. The minimum requirements are surprisingly on the high end, meaning you might not be able to run Elden Ring if you have a PC that’s even a few years old.

The minimum Elden Ring PC requirements are in line with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S rather than consoles from the previous generation.

You’ll need at least an Intel Core i5-8400 or an AMD Ryzen 3 3300X processor to run the game effectively, though it’s unclear how this will impact Elden Ring’s visuals and performance. We know the game supports 4K visuals, ray tracing, and 60 frames per second, but you likely won’t be able to reach all of those settings with the minimum PC specs.

For comparison’s sake, the PS5 and Xbox Series X editions of Elden Ring will support 4K, “up to” 60 frames per second, HDR, and ray tracing. On a base Xbox One, the game maxes out at 900p, on Xbox One X, it reaches 4K, the PS4 version caps out at 1080p, and on PS4 Pro, it supports 1800p. All of the previous-gen editions only support 30 frames per second.

On the low end, the PC version of Elden Ring requires 12GB of memory, along with at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580, both of which will cost you several hundred dollars. On the high end, players will need at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, which are difficult to find and cost a pretty penny as well.

Running Elden Ring at max settings will be expensive on PC.Bandai Namco

Below is a breakdown of the Elden Ring PC requirements, from the minimum to the recommended PC specs:

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 | AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • Memory: 12GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, 3GB | AMD Radeon RX 580, 4GB
  • DirectX: DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12. 0)
  • Storage: 60GB
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible audio device

Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 | Windows 11
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K | AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB | AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, 8GB
  • DirectX: DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12.0)
  • Storage: 60 GB
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible audio device

The response to Elden Ring’s PC specs was mixed, with many players acknowledging the high requirements, even on the low end. Twitter user @Primexile99 said, “I don’t get how this can run on a base Xbox One and PS4 but has the same requirements as next-gen only games on PC.” Many are hoping the actual minimum requirements are much lower than what FromSoftware initially confirmed.

Elden Ring will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 25, 2022.

Why you need to know the system requirements of the game

PC gamers often face technical problems. And in this guide we will talk about one of them. Namely, why you need to know the system requirements of the game, how to find out if this or that game will run on your computer, and we will also analyze related issues.

Why do I need to know the system requirements of the game?

Whatever game you are trying to run, knowing its system requirements is very important for the following reasons:

  • Basic — operating system requirements. Many great games from the past can no longer run on modern operating systems such as Windows 10. They are simply not supported. You will be lucky if the game has a current re-release, but if it is not, you will have to install another OS, especially for your game.
  • The second reason is the requirements for the video card and processor. Their capacities are growing every year, but the latest games still turn out to be more demanding than users’ computers. This is especially important if you are using old components and have not upgraded for a long time. There is no powerful video card and processor — you have to play at low graphics settings, and this is always sad.
  • The third is the amount of RAM and permanent memory. An important factor, because if you do not have enough RAM, then the game will work intermittently, so you will have to buy another 16-32 gigabytes. And if there is no space on your hard drive, then the game will not even begin to install until you free up some space. Well, or do not buy a hard drive for 4-8 terabytes. Some games work better not on classic HDDs, but on improved solid-state SSDs — card loading speeds increase and even FPS rises.
  • Fourth — the requirement for Internet speed, which is extremely important for online play. If you are going to participate in massive Battlefield or Call of Duty battles, then you should take care of high-quality Internet. Usually, the requirement for the channel width is written by the manufacturers themselves — it can be 512/1024 KB / s.

But if the game servers are located far from your place of residence, then it is better to have an optical communication channel that allows you to reduce the ping to 30-50 ms.

Note that not all games have system requirements. All PC games have system requirements, and if there are none, then you have a console exclusive in front of you and it will not work on a personal computer.

Where can I find the system requirements of the game?

{related=34378=All about the games in our database: game system requirements, prices, features, videos, screenshots}It’s very easy to do — just visit our video game database, we recently seriously updated it. Come in, drive in the search for the exact name of the game you like and see the system requirements. They are listed for almost every game, and there are both minimum and recommended ones. In addition, you can share with us the performance of the game on your system and help us collect important statistics.

What is the difference between the minimum system requirements and the recommended ones?

Often the difference between the minimum requirements and the recommended ones lies in the graphics settings. If you meet the “minimum values”, your visual quality will be worse, and if you meet the recommended ones, it will be better. The better the picture you want to see, the more complete, and better superior, there must be compliance with the requirements that the developers put forward.

However, in some games, the video card is used slightly, while the main load falls on the central processor. If your processor is inferior to the required one, then the number of frames per second and the number of characters will drop, NPCs will slow down, artificial intelligence will work worse, and so on.

If you are talking about online games or MMOs, then you need a good Internet connection and a powerful processor. Even a slight discrepancy between the characteristics of your PC and the system requirements of such games will have a qualitative negative impact on your gaming experience, make you an easy target, and other players may kick you out due to severe delay.

How do I know if a particular game will run on my computer?

The answer to this question is easy — just find out the capabilities of your computer. We need the AIDA 64 program. Download its trial version from the Internet, open the «Computer» list on the right and select the «Summary Information» item. After a few seconds, the program will analyze your computer and collect all the data in this menu:

Here you will find out everything you are interested in — what kind of OS is used, what processor the system is equipped with, what kind of video card it costs and how much RAM is available.

There is a way to use the standard Windiws tools and do without third-party programs. To do this, in the first line above the Start menu, type dxdiag and the following window will appear:

Here you can find out about the version of the operating system, the processor used and the amount of RAM. The next tab contains information about the video adapter:

Now all you need to do is match your system data with data from our video game database. If your computer meets or exceeds the system requirements, then everything is in order.

Since there are a lot of computer components, we leave the specific details related to which part is more powerful to you. Such information is easy to obtain on the Internet.

Thank you for your attention!

In turn, the recommended requirements indicate the configuration that should provide the ideal gaming experience that the developers intended — maximum or near maximum settings, stable 60 frames per second or higher.

How to find out if a game will run on a computer

In this publication, friends, we will analyze such an interesting topic — how to find out if a game will run on a computer. Those. whether the game will start on the computer, whether the computer will pull the game, whether, in particular, the video card or processor will pull the game. If the question concerns the computer you have, this is all checked very simply: we look at the requirements on the official website of the game of interest, and if we fit at least into the minimum requirements, install the game and try it first at minimum, and then with an increase in graphics settings. But how to understand whether the computer will pull the game, if this computer is supposed? Those. you are considering different options for upgrading your PC, buying a new PC or laptop. And you need some kind of optimal balance of price and performance, specifically for the list of games that you want to play. In this case, you will have to monitor a lot of information on various specialized services and analyze this information. No one will do this work for you for free, but we, of course, will give tips on how to do this work.

But, before we start looking at ways to find out if a computer will run specific games, a few words about what a minimum of a video card and processor is needed today to run modern games. Friends, the game is different, and if we play undemanding games like Counter Strike, then we can get the coveted 60 FPS at low settings in Full HD even on a good graphics built into the processor. Demanding games need much more. So, for example, among the recommendations of one of the most demanding games to date, Control, the minimum graphics cards are Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 and AMD Radeon RX 580, and the minimum processors are Intel Core i5 7th generation and AMD Ryzen 5 1st series. Compliance with these recommendations will make it possible to play this game close to 60 FPS on medium settings in Full HD.

With a processor, everything is simple: you can upgrade your PC to the minimum gaming level by choosing a processor from not the most recent generations today, for example, the 10th generation Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 5 2nd series, this will be an economical upgrade. Upgrading the system to the latest 12th generation Intel Core i3 for today will cost a little more money, but it will already be a fairly powerful and promising base for a mid-range gaming PC. The processor in games is important, but still it is secondary, the main role is played by the video card. In general, the minimum video card today is the GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB. 3% faster than the Radeon RX 580, AMD’s minimum recommended graphics card for demanding Control-type games. And the minimum recommended graphics card from Nvidia for games like Control is the GeForce GTX 1660, which, in turn, is 14% more productive than the Radeon RX 580. If so, in order to play any modern game with ray tracing, then you need a minimum GeForce RTX 2060 video card, but better than a GeForce RTX 2070. And if so, to play some games at maximum 4K, and some at a thin end at maximum speeds in 2K, then you need a minimum GeForce RTX 3070 video card. Here, friends, these key video cards are marked in the TechPowerUp video card rating.

That’s how things are in general, now let’s deal with specific games.

↑ Official game sites

For basic information about whether the game will run on a computer, you can find out on the official game sites. It usually provides information about the minimum and recommended system requirements. This information will tell us little about the prospects of playing on a particular hardware, but some games may have some online tests, like, for example, World of Tanks. We enter the necessary processor, video card, amount of RAM, and we get the result, at what settings the game will run in this situation. But that’s all, no resolution, no FPS.

Fill in the fields for selecting the processor, video card, RAM, OS, enter the name of the game and click on the button «Test your PC compatibility» .

Checking the game for compatibility with the computer

In addition to the standard version with a comparison of PC requirements and characteristics, there are special services designed specifically for inexperienced users. Let’s take a closer look at each method by which it is determined whether a new game will run on your computer or not.

First of all, several components affect the stability of work: processor, video card and RAM. But besides this, it is worth paying attention to the operating system, especially when it comes to new games. Most of them are not compatible with Windows XP and newer 32-bit operating systems.

To find out the minimum and recommended requirements for a certain game, you can go to its official website, where this information is displayed.

Most products are now purchased on online gaming platforms such as Steam or Origin. There, on the page of the selected game, the minimum and recommended system requirements are displayed. Typically, the required version of Windows, suitable video cards from AMD and NVIDIA, processor and hard drive space are indicated.

If you do not know what components are installed in your computer, then use one of the special programs. The software will analyze and display all the necessary information. And if you do not understand the generations of processors and video cards, then use the information provided on the manufacturer’s website.

If you are purchasing the game from a physical store, please consult with the retailer after writing down or remembering your PC specifications.

Method 2: Compatibility check using the online service

For users who do not understand hardware, we recommend using a special site where compatibility is checked for a specific game.

Only a few simple steps required:

Go to the Can You RUN It website and select a game from the list or enter the name into the search.

In addition, a notification about an outdated driver, if any, will be shown right in the results window, and a link will appear to the official website where you can download the latest version.

The service from NVIDIA works on the same principle. It used to be a simple utility, but now everything is done online.

You simply select a game from the list, and after scanning, the result will be displayed. The disadvantage of this site is that only the video card is analyzed.

In this article, we looked at two simple ways to determine the compatibility of a game with a computer. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that it is always better to focus on the recommended system requirements, since the minimum information is not always shown correctly and stable operation with a playable FPS is not guaranteed.

We are glad that we could help you solve the problem.

In addition to this article, there are 12723 instructions on the site.
Bookmark the Lumpics.ru site (CTRL+D) and we will definitely be useful to you.

But given the wide variety of processors and graphics cards, you may not know for sure how powerful your processor and graphics card are compared to what is indicated in the system requirements of the game.

How do I find games for my computer?

How games are checked for compatibility with your computer. To get information from the service about the compatibility of your PC with the selected video game, follow a simple sequence of steps:

  • Find out the configuration of your PC and laptop. You should get an idea about the installed processor, video card, amount of RAM and free hard disk space. Below you can find out where all this can be quickly viewed.
  • Go to the “PC Configuration” page and fill in all the lines of the proposed form, guided by the text prompts written next to it, then click on the big purple button, thereby saving the entered data. Checking if the game will run on PC will simply not start without this.
  • Open the “Games Base” section, which lists the entire line of games currently available for verification (the list is constantly being finalized and supplemented with current innovations), select the appropriate project and start the verification.

Everything! When the test of the game for PC compatibility is completed, you will see a detailed report with scores for all settings modes — minimum, medium and ultra. From them it will become clear whether you can achieve a comfortable frame rate and enjoy fully advanced graphics technologies, or limit yourself to low settings with brakes and freezes.

Selection of games according to system requirements . How to see the configuration of your PC

Many users of personal computers and laptops simply cannot assess their chances that will pull the game on their machine according to system requirements, because they have no idea how to see the configuration of the purchased hardware. Moreover, there are indeed quite a few people who do not bother and purchase a system unit on the recommendation of a seller in some supermarket with all the ensuing consequences. But there is nothing to worry about — collecting the necessary information is very simple.

  • Operating system, processor, amount of RAM. You can easily find out about all this by simply right-clicking on the “My Computer” shortcut and selecting “Properties”. The window that opens will contain all the necessary information on the processor model, its frequencies and the number of cores, the amount of RAM, as well as the operating system (not only its version is important, but also the bit depth — many new games flatly refuse to run on x86).
  • Video card. Check system requirements for games usually ends on this component. It is to him that most modern projects make increased demands. It is impossible to assemble a gaming PC in 2018 without a powerful card with at least 4 gigabytes of on-board memory. The easiest way to find out the model of your video card is through the DirectX diagnostic utility. Press the key combination Win + R, enter the command “dxdiag” and in the window that opens, in the Screen section, read all the necessary information. Even more detailed information is in the article “How to find out what video card I have?”
  • Hard disk. The simplest thing is to just launch My Computer and see how much free space you have on one of the virtual drives, and also think about how much space you can still free up. Modern games are very gluttonous, the same Final Fantasy XV or the latest Call of Duty weigh under a hundred gigabytes.

Now that you have all the necessary data on hand, you can check the compatibility of the game with your computer online . A detailed report with tips on each of the system components will allow you to determine what you can count on when launching a particular game, as well as identify weaknesses in your configuration, outlining a plan for further upgrades.

How does the service work?

The service works as follows:

  1. You enter data about the components of your computer (Processor, video card, RAM, operating system) and after that on the pages with the requirements of the games you only have to click on the big button “Check”,
  2. Next, the service will calculate compliance and return scores for all performance tuning modes,
  3. Based on these estimates, you can easily guess: will the game run on your PC at all? will he pull it only on the minimum requirements, or will you, as a rich PC-boyar, play on ultra-settings.

Our service is currently in Beta-version — its functionality is being actively improved and optimized, and the number of games is growing. Priority is given to current releases, but you can always write to the forum in the appropriate topic. The requested project will be added as soon as possible.

Method 3: GameTips

GameTips is a resource for articles on video games, hardware, and eSports. At the same time, it provides a free online service for checking the compatibility of computer games.

Enter the name of your video card, processor and game you want to check, then select the appropriate amount of RAM, OS version and click the button «Submit» .

The GameTips site allows you to check if the game will run on your computer with the minimum and/or recommended settings. At the same time, the service will show how much the processor and video card fall short or, conversely, exceed the required level of performance.

Unfortunately, the site is somewhat buggy and does not always immediately give a list of games to choose from. In this case, it is recommended to wait a minute while the list is loading, but if this does not happen, refresh the page — the entered data will be saved.

Method 4: BenchGame

The BenchGame site offers users who are not very versed in components to check whether a particular game will run on their computer, and also provides a service for comparing PC power and the performance required to run a particular game. To check your computer’s compatibility with a particular game, follow these steps:

Fill in the fields for selecting the processor, video card, RAM, OS, enter the name of the game and click on the button «Test your PC compatibility» .

In addition to checking just one BenchGame game, you can check the global compatibility of your computer with many games. To do this, go through the steps similar to the previous method, but in the panel below.

Enter data about your components, then select the category of games that you are interested in, or leave this field if you want to see games from all categories. Set how to sort the results: by newest or unreleased games ( «Descending» ) or from the oldest ( «Ascending» ) and what date of games to take into account, that is, for what period after their release to make a selection, then press the button «Find» .

BenchGame is a very, very good online service for testing PC compatibility and performance. Positively stands out the possibility of checking not only one game, but the entire computer, and issuing a list of games that will run on this system, not to mention the presence of actual games and components in the lists. A small disadvantage is that the site does not always correctly display games that the computer meets the minimum requirements. More often this is due to games that have not yet been released: maybe this is some kind of technical stub so as not to deceive players by mistakenly assuring in advance that the game will launch when it comes out. The developers are not idle and promise the active development of the service, including taking into account screen resolution during testing and the development of an FPS calculation module.

The vast majority of online services save the entered data, that is, you do not have to go through the described procedures for filling in the fields a second time when using familiar sites.

To use the service, enter the name of the game in the text field and click the button «Can I Run It» , or find the game you are interested in in the list below and click on it.

Can You Run It

Another way to find out if you can run the game is to use a popular tool called “Can You Run It,” which translates to “Can You Run It?”

Can You Run It is a database containing the system requirements of a huge number of games, making it easy and quick to find them. In addition, it has a free application that automatically detects your computer’s specifications and uploads them to the site for easy and quick comparison with the system requirements of games.

Conclusion

That’s all you need to know if you’re wondering if the game will run on your computer.

As already mentioned, system requirements are not some hard and fast rule, so even if your PC doesn’t quite meet them, the situation is not necessarily so hopeless. It is possible that the game will run on your PC even if some of its components are not officially supported.

And if you have an older machine and are thinking about upgrading, take a look at our builds — there are many configurations among them, from budget to more powerful (and expensive) gaming machines.

Select the game settings — Low (low), Medium (medium), High (high), Max (maximum). And choose a resolution — 720p, 1080p, 1440p or more, if any.

How to determine if a game will run on your PC

When determining whether your PC meets the requirements of the game, it is worth considering that developers usually indicate double values for each component, that is, the minimum and recommended requirements.

Minimum requirements — a set of components, in the presence of which the game will start and work at the minimum graphics settings. Compliance of the computer with the minimum requirements will ensure the normal operation of the game at a setting close to the maximum. Therefore, the emergence of interest whether the game will run on your PC is very important. By the way, the graphics component of games is not important for everyone and not always, for example, many players in online shooters deliberately lower the settings to the minimum to ensure maximum performance.

So, the easiest way to determine the characteristics of your PC is to get information in the appropriate section of the operating system. To do this, follow the path: Start — System and Security — System. Most of the information of interest will appear on the screen — the model and frequency of the processor, the amount of RAM, bit depth and type of operating system.

An example of determining the characteristics of a video card will be given for components from Nvidia. For owners of video cards from AMD, the algorithm will be about the same.

  1. You need to right-click on an empty spot on the screen and select «Nvidia Control Panel» in the context menu that appears.
  2. In the menu that opens, select the «System Information» section (lower right corner) and you will see the model of the video card, its memory size, driver version and other information.

To view the free hard disk space for games, you just need to double-click on the icon on the desktop «My Computer». In the window that opens, the necessary information will be visible and you will know if there is enough space for your game.

Comparing the received data with the requirements on the game page, we can draw conclusions about whether the game will run on a PC.

Third Party PC Characteristics Software

You can also use third party software to determine which components are installed on your PC. In some cases, such information will be more detailed, which means that it will be possible to find out whether the game will launch on a PC with greater accuracy.

One of the most versatile of these tools is the AIDA64 program. After installation and launch, it scans the personal computer and provides comprehensive information regarding the installed components. At the same time, everything is divided into groups for ease of use. In this case, you should pay attention to the «Computer» tab and the «Summary information» subsection.

Here you can see all relevant information for games — processor model and frequency, motherboard model, amount and frequency of RAM, model and amount of video card memory, etc.
