Yeston RX580. Part 1, for gamers / About technology and electronics / iXBT Live

It’s no secret that on our most popular online platform, Aliexpress, there are a fairly large number of video cards for sale at attractive prices, but there is also a fairly large number of negative reviews in which buyers complain about the discrepancy between the real characteristics of the declared ones, when a seemingly new and modern video card bought turns out to be a re-flashed copy of an old and long-lost model. Such cases are the result of the work of dishonest sellers, of which, as in any city market, there are enough of them on Aliexpress, but you must admit that it is not entirely correct to judge all video cards and manufacturers in China by them.

To understand a little, with this review, I would like to start a small series of articles and talk about several models of modern video cards from Chinese brands, which are not yet so widely known outside the Celestial Empire, but nevertheless strive for this with all their might.

So, have you ever heard of the Yeston brand before? I’m sure the majority will answer no. Indeed, this brand is usually not found among the names of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit or Sapphire. But it turns out that Yeston video cards have been produced in China since the end of 2000.

Shenzhen Yingjiaxun Industrial Limited Company, founded in 2000, is an IT enterprise specializing in the research, development, production and marketing of computer accessories, and owns the brands «Yeston», «Game ACE» and several others, and its The products are mainly graphics cards, motherboards and power supplies. As you might expect, Yingjiaxun cooperates with global electronics manufacturers such as NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and others. More information about the company can be found on the official website.

This review will focus on the Yeston Radeon RX 580 GameAce video card released in April this year. Here we will consider the video card in terms of its main purpose — performance in games. Later, the second part will appear, which will be devoted to testing this model in mining.

Package Packed in a special postal box made of thick cardboard. It should be noted that when sending rather expensive purchases, the use of such packaging, unlike simple packages, is a good protection against damage.

Inside is another box, but this time it’s the colorful packaging of the video card itself.

The kit is minimalistic, only the essentials: a video card, 6 + 8 pin additional power cables and a small brochure. The driver disk is not included.

The video card cannot be called compact, as this model belongs to the few RX580s that have a cooling system with three coolers. For example, a similar solution is also used by ASUS in the flagship model ROG STRIX Radeon RX 580 OC Edition.

Thanks to this, the device has a solid length of 31 cm and a weight of 830 g.

The central fan has 11 blades with a width of 10 cm, and the outer ones with 9 blades and a width of 9 cm.

display image on 5 devices. To do this, there are 3 DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, as well as one HDMI 2.0b and DVI-D.

At the top there are connectors for connecting additional power to the video card (6 + 8 pins) as well as the inscription “RX580” illuminated during operation.

Here you can clearly see that in fact the printed circuit board of the video card is not as large as it might seem at first glance, and the cooling system simply goes beyond its limits by a distance of about 5 cm.

This is also clearly visible on the rear protective plate , which makes a slight bend where the PCB ends. The plate provides rigidity relative to a massive video card (preventing PCB bending), and also protects PCB elements soldered on the back from damage.

The plate itself is made of thick metal, somehow it will not be possible to deform it just like that. The finish is black matte paint with the “Radeon RX” logo applied. There is a small gap between the plate and the PCB for air circulation, as well as additional ventilation holes.

The cooling unit is attached to the PCB with four spring loaded screws. The graphics processor is attached to the copper plate through thermal paste, which, by the way, was not spared here, memory chips through thermal pads.

Heat dissipation uses four air tubes pressed into a copper heatsink, which is in turn surrounded by an aluminum plate in direct contact with the main heatsink fins.

The plate is responsible for removing heat from the memory chips.

The radiator itself, as well as in the ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 580 OC Edition, is divided into two independent parts, consisting of transverse plates. Two air tubes are assigned to each of the two parts of the radiator.

A shroud is installed on top of the heatsink with three fans running at the same speed. Unlike the often used scheme, this cooler does not stop the fans in case of idle time or low load, but simply runs at low speeds. Any noise is completely absent even with the cover of the system unit open.

It’s time to see what kind of chip is installed in this card.

Everything turned out well here — the marking 215-0910038 indicates that this card is indeed a Radeon RX580, the chip itself is made in China.

Four gigabytes of memory are collected by eight Elpida W4032BABG-70-F chips.

The power circuit is implemented in six «phases».

The voltage stabilizers are cooled by their own separate heatsink.

As mentioned above, the video card is quite large, so there was a small problem when installing it in the system unit. With a video card length of 31 cm, it rested against the HDD basket.

This problem is solved quite simply. The basket in this case is not a critical structural element and does not affect its strength; it is fastened with aluminum rivets.

The rivets can be drilled out fairly easily and the basket removed. Since no elements were critically damaged at the same time, it remains possible to return everything to its place if necessary.

As a result, we get a lot of free space in which even larger devices can be placed. With the installation of the video card now there are no problems.

The HDD was then transferred and fixed in the 5.25″ cage.

Turn on the computer.

Video card fans rotate in standby mode absolutely silently, the backlight of the inscription “RX580” lights up and goes out smoothly.

Since there is no driver disk in the set, an attempt was made to download them from the manufacturer’s official website. Such an opportunity is indeed provided, but in the end it turned out that the download link leads to the official AMD website and the necessary drivers were taken from there: link for systems on Windows 10 x64, link for systems on Windows 7 x64.

I note that initially Windows 7 x64 was installed on the computer, but due to the lack of DirectX 12 support in it, the OS was soon replaced by the 10th version.

The Crimson ReLive Edition driver kit immediately includes almost all the necessary software that allows, among other things, to fine-tune and even overclock the video card using the built-in WattMan utility.

But it seemed to me not very convenient, so the more familiar MSI Afterburner software was additionally installed. There were no problems with his work, the utility immediately «picked up» the video card.

The advantages of this utility include both a thoughtful and intuitive interface, and a wide range of parameters and functions, including not only overclocking capabilities, but also the function of displaying information with the current parameters of the video card in overlay mode during games or tests, as well as the ability to create screenshots and record video from the screen.

RX 580 GameAce operates at 1340 MHz core and 7000 (1750) MHz memory, which is equivalent to reference frequencies. Models with 8GB of memory tend to have slightly higher frequencies. For example, I suggest taking a look at the RX580 video card range from MSI.

Returning to our video card, the Aida64 utility confirms that a video card based on the Polaris 20 XTX GPU is installed in the system (screenshots are clickable).

Information from the latest version of the TechPowerUp GPU-Z 2.4.0 utility.

If you pay attention to the screenshot below, the utility has identified a rather high overclocking potential in this video card.

And as it turned out, this is true.

In the course of the experiments, I tried to overclock both the processor and the memory of the video card without resorting to a forced increase in voltage, i.e. the most secure mode provided by MSI Afterburner by default was used. The maximum possible values that ensure stable operation of the video card turned out to be 1450 MHz “for the core” and 8220 (2055) MHz “for memory”.

After changing the frequencies, testing was carried out using Futuremark 3DMark with the fixation of the obtained performance «points».

Characteristics of the PC tested:

  • Asus P8H61 Pro motherboard;
  • Intel Core i3-2100, 3100 MHz;
  • RAM 8GB DDR3;
  • HDD 500 GB + SSD 240 GB;
  • Windows 10 LTSB x64, DirectX 12;
  • drivers AMD Crimson Edition 17. 9.1 Beta.

The test results are clearly shown in the following graph.

Compared to similar RX580 benchmarks abounding on the Web, it might seem that the results are relatively small. But, in this case, the amount of built-in video memory plays a big role in the number of points scored, and our 4GB is precisely the reason for some lag.

Further testing was performed at reference frequencies, as this is still the most preferred mode of operation for any video card and most owners do not resort to overclocking unless absolutely necessary.

Another test is the Unigine Superposition Benchmark. It is interesting in that it allows you to test a video card in both DirectX and OpenGL.

Well, the most revealing, in my opinion — the test results in games.

All settings were set to maximum values, vertical synchronization is disabled. Unfortunately, the maximum resolution of my monitor is FullHD 1920×1080, so this is the value used during the tests.

Video card tested in games: Titanfall 2 (DX 11), World of Tanks HD (DX 11), Fallout 4 (DX 11), BattleField 1 (DX 11), BattleField 4 (DX 11), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (DX 11), Rise Of The Tomb Raider (DX 12).

Video with unpacking, disassembly and gameplay

the cooling system operates in automatic mode and the coolers remain almost silent up to 70 degrees, after which the system starts to spin them at full capacity. If desired, you can independently set the settings for the operation of the cooling system depending on the temperature.

RX580 is not «cold». Despite the fact that in standby mode its temperature fluctuates around 30 degrees, under serious load it can reach 80 degrees (with the limit mark of MSI Afterburner at 90 degrees).

In general, the video card proved to be quite good, the workmanship is not satisfactory, there is no feeling of some kind of underground, semi-basement assembly, horror stories about which are still alive in our minds since the early 2000s.

This model also clearly shows the manufacturer’s desire to approach their developments creatively and try to experiment in search of the best engineering solutions on a par with famous brands. Installing a cooling system larger than the PCB, however strange it may sound, clearly demonstrates an attempt to improve the thermal performance of the video card.

The performance of the Yeston RX580 is quite consistent with the declared characteristics and, moreover, has good overclocking potential.

    Testing Chinese video cards.

    Part 1: Yeston RX580 for gamers

    This content has been written by a website visitor and has been rewarded.

    Video card Yeston RX580 4Gb — a detailed review with unpacking, disassembly and gameplay in the most demanding games.

    It’s no secret that on our most popular online platform, Aliexpress, there are a fairly large number of video cards for sale at attractive prices, but there is also a fairly large number of negative reviews in which buyers complain about the discrepancy between the real characteristics of the declared ones when they bought, it would seem, new and a modern video card turns out to be a reflashed copy of an old model that has long lost its relevance. Such cases are the result of the work of dishonest sellers, of which, as in any city market, there are enough of them on Aliexpress, but you must admit that it is not entirely correct to judge all video cards and manufacturers in China by them.

    To understand a little, with this review, I would like to start a small series of articles and talk about several models of modern video cards from Chinese brands, which are not yet so widely known outside the Middle Kingdom, but nevertheless strive for this with all their might.

    Shenzhen Yingjiaxun Industrial Limited Company, founded in 2000, is an IT enterprise specializing in the research, development, production and marketing of computer accessories, and owns the brands «Yeston», «Game ACE» and several others, and its products mainly graphics cards, motherboards and power supplies. As you might expect, Yingjiaxun cooperates with global electronics manufacturers such as NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and others. More information about the company can be found at
    official site.

    This review will be devoted to the Yeston Radeon RX 580 GameAce video card released in April of this year. Here we will consider the video card in terms of its main purpose — performance in games. Later, the second part will appear, which will be devoted to testing this model in mining.

    The parcel is packed in a special postal box made of thick cardboard. It should be noted that when sending rather expensive purchases, the use of such packaging, unlike simple packages, is a good protection against damage.

    Inside is another box, but this time it’s the colorful packaging of the video card itself.

    The bundle is minimalistic, only the essentials: video card, 6+8 pin auxiliary power cables and a small brochure.

    The central fan has 11 blades and a width of 10 cm, while the outer ones have 9 blades and a width of 9 cm.

    The video card allows you to simultaneously display an image on 5 devices. To do this, there are 3 DisplayPort 1. 4 connectors, as well as one HDMI 2.0b and DVI-D.

    On the top end there are connectors for connecting additional power to the video card (6+8 pins) as well as the inscription “RX580” illuminated during operation.

    Here you can clearly see that in fact the printed circuit board of the video card is not as large as it might seem at first glance, and the cooling system simply goes beyond its limits by a distance of about 5 cm.

    This is also clearly visible in the rear skid plate, which has a slight bend where the PCB ends. The plate provides rigidity relative to a massive video card (preventing PCB bending), and also protects PCB elements soldered on the back from damage.

    The plate itself is made of thick metal, so it’s impossible to deform it just like that. The finish is black matte paint with the “Radeon RX” logo applied. There is a small gap between the plate and the PCB for air circulation, as well as additional ventilation holes.

    Removing the cooling system

    show

    The cooling block is attracted to the PCB with four spring-loaded screws. The graphics processor is attached to the copper plate through thermal paste, which, by the way, was not spared here, memory chips through thermal pads.

    Heat dissipation uses four air tubes pressed into a copper heatsink, which is in turn surrounded by an aluminum plate in direct contact with the main heatsink’s fins.

    A shroud is mounted on top of the heatsink with three fans running at the same speed.

    Four gigabytes of memory are accumulated by eight Elpida W4032BABG-70-F chips.

    The power supply is implemented on six «phases».

    The voltage regulators are cooled by their own separate heatsink.

    As mentioned above, the video card is quite large, in connection with this, when it was installed in the system unit, there was a small problem…

    Installation in the system unit

    show

    With a video card length of 31 cm, it rested on the HDD basket.

    This problem is solved quite simply. The basket in this case is not a critical structural element and does not affect its strength; it is fastened with aluminum rivets.

    The rivets can be drilled out quite easily and the basket removed. Since no elements were critically damaged at the same time, it remains possible to return everything to its place if necessary.

    As a result, we get a lot of free space, in which even larger devices can be placed.

    Now there are no problems with installing the video card.

    The HDD was then moved and fixed in the 5.25″ rack.

    Turn on the computer.

    The video card fans rotate in standby mode absolutely silently, the illumination of the inscription “RX580” lights up and goes out smoothly.

    Since there is no driver disk included, an attempt was made to
    download them from the official website of the manufacturer. Such an opportunity is indeed provided, but in the end it turned out that the download link leads to the official AMD website and the necessary drivers were taken from there:
    link for systems on Windows 10 x64,
    link for systems on Windows 7 x64.

    Screenshots of MSI Afterburner

    RX 580 GameAce operates at 1340 MHz core and 7000 (1750) MHz memory, which is equivalent to reference frequencies. Models with 8GB of memory tend to have slightly higher frequencies. For example, I suggest taking a look at the RX580 video card range from MSI.

    Returning to our graphics card, the Aida64 utility confirms that a Polaris 20 XTX graphics card is installed in the system.

    Information from Aida64

    show

    After changing the frequencies, testing was carried out using Futuremark 3DMark with the fixation of the obtained «points» of performance.

    Characteristics of the PC in which the test was carried out:

    • motherboard Asus P8H61 Pro;
    • processor Intel Core i3-2100, 3100 MHz;
    • RAM 8GB DDR3;
    • HDD 500 GB + SSD 240 GB;
    • Windows 10 LTSB x64, DirectX 12;
    • drivers AMD Crimson Edition 17. 9.1 Beta.

    The test results are clearly shown in the following graph.

    If we compare it with similar RX580 tests that abound on the Web, it may seem that the results are relatively small.

    Video card tested in games: Titanfall 2 (DX 11), World of Tanks HD (DX 11), Fallout 4 (DX 11), BattleField 1 (DX 11), BattleField 4 (DX 11), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ( DX 11), Rise Of The Tomb Raider (DX 12.

    As for heating, by default the cooling system works in automatic mode and the coolers remain almost silent up to 70 degrees, after which the system starts to spin them at full capacity. If desired, you can independently set the settings for the operation of the cooling system depending on the temperature.

    RX580 can not be called «cold». Despite the fact that in standby mode its temperature fluctuates around 30 degrees, under serious load it can reach 80 degrees (with the limit mark of MSI Afterburner at 90 degrees).

    Unboxing, teardown and gameplay video

    In general, the video card proved to be quite good, the workmanship is not satisfactory, there is no feeling of some kind of underground, semi-basement assembly, horror stories about which are still alive in our minds since the early 2000s.

    This model also clearly shows the manufacturer’s desire to approach their developments creatively and try to experiment in search of the best engineering solutions on a par with famous brands. Installing a cooling system larger than the PCB, however strange it may sound, clearly demonstrates an attempt to improve the thermal performance of the video card.

    The performance of the Yeston RX580 is quite consistent with the declared characteristics and, moreover, has a good potential for overclocking.
    9The 0344 Yeston RX580 4Gb is currently on sale for $332.99.

    There are also several more discounts for video cards, among which there are representatives of the «green» ones:
