No matter how great your latest GPU or CPU upgrade, your tech life won’t change as much as you’d like if you’re still staring at the same old screen. If you do any kind of PC gaming, getting a gaming monitor with a high-refresh rate will change the way you play, eliminating tearing and ghosting. Upgrading to a larger screen or one with a higher resolution will let you have a more immersive experience or see more content at once. And, if you like your primary display(s), adding additional ones will improve your multitasking.

The good news is that there are plenty of great monitor deals to be had. Amazon and other retailers such as Newegg, Dell, and Best Buy are offering amazing savings on screens right now and we’re tracking them to help you find the right one. Whether you’re shopping for one of the best gaming monitors, or just an inexpensive secondary or portable display, check out the highlighted monitor deals below.

Specs to Look For: Monitor Deals

Size — 27 inches seems to be the typical entry-level size where 24 inches is small and 32-inches or higher should be considered large.

Refresh Rate — If you’re a gamer, you’ll prefer a high-refresh rate display that’s at least 120 Hz and supports FreeSync and / or G-Sync technology. Unless you’re an esports professional, you probably don’t need more than 165 Hz.

Resolution — 4K is the top resolution most people can afford, but it can be expensive if you want both high resolution and high refresh rates. You can usually get a good price on 2K, high refresh monitors and even better savings on 1080p screens.

The Best Computer Monitor Deals for January 2023

Whether you’re back at the office or using a basic laptop at home, a good monitor is a must for any work setup. If you need a larger main display, a budget-friendly second screen, or a touch display, here are a few ways to do that while saving a few bucks. And if gifting is your intent, keep your recipient in mind: Are they a gamer? Do they have a frequently utilized home office? We’ve got budget monitors to suit more casual usage as well.

If you haven’t sized up monitors in a while, screen size is probably the most important factor—fitting a screen to the size of your workstation is an important place to start. Beyond that, most of us can get by with a full HD screen (splurge on a 4K panel if you want to future-proof).

Today’s average screen brightness is about 300 nits, but if you’re working in a bright space or in sunlight, finding a panel with 400-500 nits would be worth the extra spend. Similarly, higher refresh speeds mean sharper images, so gamers will want at minimum a 75Hz screen, with 144Hz probably being the true minimum to look for.

(If your PC has an HDMI-out, consider one of these discounted TVs as a monitor. They’ll provide streaming capabilities when you’re not at work.)

FAQ

Where can I get the best deal on a computer monitor?

Amazon and Walmart are reliable stores for monitor deals, but don’t forget about Newegg, too. If you’re a Dell fan, you can often snag a deal directly from the PC maker, especially if you’re bundling it with a PC purchase.

Which computer monitor brand is best?

Our roundup of the best computer monitors is dominated by Dell and its Alienware gaming brand. But our most recent Readers’ Choice survey for monitors crowned Asus as the brand to beat.

Which monitor is best for daily use?

The Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub Monitor (U2723QE) is our pick for best overall business monitor. It isn’t cheap, but it delivers loads of connection and adjustment choices, amping up an extra-poppy panel with wide color gamut and superb contrast. For something more affordable, we like the HP 24mh 23.8-Inch Display.
