Can My Mac Run It? 100+ Mac gaming benchmarks
You probably got a Mac for reasons completely unrelated to gaming. Perhaps you needed one for work or school, or perhaps you just couldn’t stand Windows anymore.
Either way, if you’re here, you’re wondering: Can my Mac run games?
We test some of the best games on several Macs, ranging from powerful iMacs to older MacBooks, to help you figure it out.
Ever wondered if your Mac can run Fortnite, Civ 6, or WoW? This Can My Mac Run It guide is for you.
Gaming Macs, benchmarked
This first section is all about testing as many Macs as possible and comparing them with each other. That means running the exact same benchmark on every Mac.
With the help of the Mac gaming community, we benchmarked over 70 different Mac models using Unigine’s Valley benchmarking tool:
Current Lineup
If you’re interested in getting a new Mac, or just made a purchase and are curious how your new machine compares with the rest, the table below only includes modern Macs from 2018 onwards:
All Macs, benchmarked
While the table above only focuses on modern Macs, this table includes every single Mac we’ve benchmarked so far:
Want to help out? Benchmark your Mac and share your result with us! It’s easy and free. You can read this page for detailed step-by-step instructions.
Understanding these results
If you’re a little lost with all these FPS (frames per second) figures, this is how we read them:
< 20 FPS
Unplayable gaming performance: A game running below 20 FPS is unplayable (unless you’re dealing with a turn-based game and don’t mind a lot of lag).
20 – 35 FPS
Borderline gaming performance: A game running between 20 – 30 FPS is possible but it will be uncomfortable. If the game runs at 30+ FPS, you can expect decent performance.
> 35 FPS
Good gaming performance: While many hardcore gamers expect at least 60 FPS from a gaming rig, 35 FPS is more than acceptable for casual gamers.
Can I run it for Mac: The Games
The previous section was all about testing as many different Macs running the same benchmark. This section is all about testing as many different games as possible.
These are all the benchmark results we have gathered so far (you can also find the specs of the Macs used below the table). To truly get the most out of it, though, make sure you check out the “Read More” links for all the juicy details:
These are the two models used for all tests presented in this table:
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2013): 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Intel Iris 5100 (1.5GB)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016): 2.0 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 540 (1.5GB)
Is your Mac good for gaming?
These results are great to have but they’re only part of the answer. In order to effectively figure out what games your Mac can run, you should:
1. Download Valley and perform this same test (we explain the entire process in detail here).
➜ That result will be your reference point.
2. Look for the game you want to play from our Can my Mac Run it section.
3. From the machines used to test that game, pick the one that resembles your Mac the most.
➜ Use the results from that machine as a comparison point.
As an example, we’ve used the same 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro and 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro for every one of our Mac Performance Reviews. This is how they run some of the most popular Mac games right now:
Game | 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro | 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro | Difference |
Valley benchmark | 9.3 FPS | 30 FPS | +222% |
Fortnite | 23.4 FPS | 47.1 FPS | +101% |
Rise of the Tomb Raider | 0 FPS | 16.5 FPS | ∞ |
DiRT Rally | 38.5 FPS | 53.9 FPS | +40% |
Armed with a Valley result of your own, you can have a more accurate idea of what performance to expect from these games.
For example, if your Valley result is 45 FPS, you can expect significantly better performance than our 2016 MBP (which scored 30 FPS). If your Valley result is 20 FPS, you can expect gaming performance somewhere between our two MBPs above.
Do keep in mind that the correlation between Valley and games is not linear and will differ from game to game. This method should only be used to give you an educated guess of what to expect from games.
Can you run it: MacBook and older Mac owners, beware!
Chances are you have a Mac that isn’t particularly good for gaming, at least on paper. Namely a MacBook or any other Mac without a dedicated graphics card.
Most will tell you gaming is impossible on a MacBook but the results speak for themselves:
Demanding games will be out of your reach, that’s a fact. But slightly older games or modern indies will do just fine. To give you a better idea of what can be possible on an entry-level MacBook (in this case, my 2013 13-inch MacBook), all the games that are above the “unplayable” grey area should play fine on older Macs with integrated graphics.
Keep an eye on the MacBook and Old Mac performance section to have a better idea of whether your MacBook or older Mac will be able to do.
What if you’re looking for a new Mac?
If you’re actually looking for a new Mac to buy and gaming happens to be important for you, you should definitely check out our Best Mac for gaming guide for which we tested two real-world games on every single Mac currently on sale:
While it was easy to find the fastest Mac, and hence “best for gaming”, we actually focused on the machines that offered the most value for money. Spoiler alert, it’s the 27-inch iMac (or 15-inch MacBook Pro if you need a laptop).
Testing conditions
We went to great lengths to ensure all tests were performed under the same testing conditions (settings, resolution and, gameplay).
All of the games featured here were tested on at least our 3 in-house models below (although several other machines were tested thanks to other members of the Mac Gamer HQ team):
- iMac (5K, 27-inch, Late 2014): 3. 5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M290X (2GB)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2013): 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Intel Iris 5100 (1.5GB)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016): 2.0 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 540 (1.5GB)

Gaming Macs Valley results
While most websites use Geekbench and Cinebench R15, we decided to go with a more specialized tool.
Geekbench is extremely popular and already benefits from a massive database of results but it only focuses on CPU performance and disregards graphics performance, which is critical for gaming.
Cinebench R15 does have a dedicated graphics performance benchmark, but it’s so old and outdated, it’s no longer relevant to modern video gaming.
Unigine’s Valley, on the other hand, mainly focuses on stress-testing graphics performance and features:
- GPU temperature and clock monitoring
- 64 000 000 square meters of extremely detailed, seamless terrain
- Procedural content generation and placement
- User-controlled dynamic weather
In an effort to keep these results as accurate as possible, we asked every contributor to use the same benchmarking tool under the same testing conditions:
- Using Unigine’s Valley basic preset.
- Closing all other open applications while running the test.
- Maintaining the machine plugged at all times (low battery affects performance).
Released in 2013, Valley is slightly old and it’s also a shame it still relies on OpenGL, but after testing several other tools, Valley offers the closest testing conditions to modern games.
Want to help out? Benchmark your Mac and share your result with us! It’s easy and and should take less than 10 minutes! You can read this page for detailed step-by-step instructions.
Your Turn
With that, we hope you now have a better idea of what your Mac is capable of.
Granted, Macs aren’t designed with gaming in mind, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still do a great job! As we continue doing performance reviews and Best of guides, we’ll continue to add all of our results here. This is a page you might want to bookmark

New MacBook Pro Models with Improved Keyboard and 8th Generation Intel Core Processors
Alexander Kuznetsov
—
Apple has announced the release of new MacBook Pro models. They received eighth generation Intel Core processors and an improved keyboard. The upgrade affected the 13-inch and 15-inch models, including those with the Touch Bar.
The 13-inch model received a quad-core Intel Core i5 or i7 processor up to 2.7 GHz, overclocked to 4. 5 GHz and an integrated Intel Iris Plus 640 or 655 graphics chip with 128 MB of eDRAM, 8 GB of RAM, as well as an SSD-drive up to 2 TB. Thickness — 14.9 mm, weight — 1.37 kg. The base model will cost $1,799.
15-inch model more attractive features: six-core Intel Core i7 or i9 processor up to 2.9GHz or 4.8 GHz turbo, up to 32 GB RAM, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630, AMD Radeon Pro 555X or 560X discrete graphics with 4 GB memory, and up to 4 TB SSD. Thickness — 15.5 mm, weight — 1.83 kg. This model will cost between $2399 and $6699 depending on the configuration.
Apple says the 15-inch MacBook Pro saw a 70 percent performance boost with the new processors, while the 13-inch model doubled the performance. Both models feature True Tone screens, an Apple T2 co-processor and Touch Bar, and third-generation keyboards with quieter keystrokes. They will be the first Apple laptops on which you can call Siri with your voice. Among the ports, as before, four Thunderbolt connectors (USB Type-C) and an output for connecting headphones or speakers.
As an accessory to the novelties, it will be possible to purchase a leather case, released in black, brown and dark blue. Previously, Apple-branded cases were only available for the iPad and last year’s 12-inch MacBook.
When these MacBook Pro models will appear in Russia and how much they will cost is still unknown. Judging by the information from the Apple website, the most expensive modifications will not get into our country — with a Core i9 processorand more than 512 GB of memory.

Technical specifications are just what can give a rough idea of the performance and relevance of a laptop even before it is tested or purchased. And so it never hurts to know them. At least this way you can understand what kind of laptop modification you need. And in the case of the MacBook Pro, technical specifications also play a decisive role in the choice. Here’s what Apple has to offer with updated versions of its top laptops.

The 2021 MacBook Pro is a big improvement over its predecessors. The new MacBook has become a little heavier. But in terms of dimensions, it has not changed at all. And it is right. Since the design of the MacBook Pro case and its design has long been recognized as ideal. But technical specifications are only a small part of the changes and innovations. In order to understand how much the new MacBook is better than the old one, you need to consider all its key features. And that’s what we’re going to do now. But first, let’s see what modifications of the laptop can be in general.
Performance and Software
That’s where the upgrades are, under the hood. MacBook Pro 15 2021 now available with 6-core Intel Core i7 and i9 processors, Intel UHD 630 video paired with discrete Radeon Pro 555X/560X chips with 4GB of memory, available with 16GB and 32GB DDR4 RAM, and expandable storage up to 4 TB. As before, there is Wi-Fi with ac support, and the Bluetooth version this time is 5.0. I got the base package with an Intel Core i7-8750H, Radeon Pro 555X, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. As usual, an upgrade is not possible, everything is soldered immediately on the motherboard, which reduces maintainability to a minimum, and the possibility of replacing memory or a drive on your own stops in principle.
The addition of two additional CPU cores will go unnoticed by those who rarely deal with heavy tasks. But for those who work with file conversion, video processing, and others, which directly depends on the power of the system, the performance increase will be noticeable. For example: converting a video file takes a third less time on a 6-core processor, as opposed to a 4-core sixth generation. This is not the usual 5-10% increase in power from model to model, but a really noticeable increase in performance.
There are no significant changes to the 2021 MacBook Pro cooling system. At the very beginning of sales, there was a small scandal when there was a problem with overheating and throttling, but the next update eliminated this problem. The laptop itself practically does not heat up in the “office” work mode, but it gets warmer when discrete video is running, and under maximum load it heats up well at all. The sound of the CO is appropriate: in normal mode, at a couple of thousand revolutions, almost nothing is heard, but as soon as the fans accelerate, the noise from them becomes well audible.
The MacOS operating system, in turn, is practically the same as the version on other Apple laptops. Unless she has a couple of additional items in the settings. The most noticeable change will be the ability to call Siri without additional actions (there is even a separate T2 chip for this, which also deals with data security), but I’m not sure that this will be popular in our latitudes. Otherwise, with such components, the system works just fine and there were absolutely no problems during testing.
13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro available
At this point in time, Apple is ready to offer customers several versions of the MacBook Pro. They differ not only in size, but also in filling. However, the most noticeable difference is the screen size. There are versions with 13 and 15 inches. At the same time, the screen technology remains exactly the same — Retina, which allows us to expect the correct color reproduction from any model. But the older version is also equipped with True Tone technology, which adjusts the screen temperature to the environment.
Now about the stuffing. Even the basic version 15-inch MacBook is much more powerful than the top-end configuration with a 13-inch screen. The Apple MacBook Pro 15 2021 shows much more interesting results in synthetic tests than the Apple MacBook Pro 13. But this is understandable. The company expects that fifteen-inch models with top-end filling will be bought up exclusively by professionals. And models with a smaller screen diagonal are provided to ordinary users. Now it’s time to consider the key features of the new laptops.
Design and usability
Some time ago I got a 15″ 2016 model. Feelings from the updated laptop have not changed at all. The device still uses an aluminum body in two color options: dark Space Gray and standard Silver. The size and weight have not changed: 349.3 × 240.7 × 15.5 mm, 1.83 kg. Calling the model a compact language still does not turn out, but as for the possibilities, the laptop is really small and quite mobile.
I already wrote about how it proved to be in use in the operating experience. After working with the MacBook Pro 15 2021 for some time, alas, there is nothing to add to what has already been said. All advantages and disadvantages remained in their places. In my opinion, there are no global problems with it, and a couple of inconveniences become completely invisible over time. You can read more about this here.
The situation with connecting external devices remains the same. Only USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 devices and headphones are connected directly. Everything else will require an appropriate adapter. The prices of such accessories do not change: good options will cost an average of $50-100, and «all-in-one and for all occasions» — $200 and more. In the new model, the ports are noticeably more tenacious, and you have to apply a little more effort when disconnecting the cable than with the previous model. On the one hand, this is good, because it will be more difficult to accidentally pull out the cord, but on the other hand, if you catch on the power cord, you can pull the laptop along.
In general, for a couple of years of sales of models in this design, he has proven himself well, except for the situation with keyboards, to which we will return.
The iconic look of the MacBook Pro with touchbar stripe
The company decided not to change the design of MacBooks. Precisely because he has long received a cult status. Almost everyone can accurately identify the MacBook Pro among laptops from other manufacturers. And Apple rightly felt that it would be wrong to deprive the MacBook of recognizable features. So the design hasn’t changed much. The only new feature is the touchbar strip above the keyboard. This is a very useful thing, which will be discussed in subsequent chapters.
The laptop keyboard has also undergone some cosmetic changes. And not only because of the updated design. The icons on the keys have moved up a bit. And it’s not bad in terms of ergonomics. Another feature is the frame around the display. In the new reincarnation of the laptop, they have become much thinner. This allowed the MacBook to look more modern. But the most interesting thing is that the dimensions remained the same. And this despite the fact that much more powerful components are installed on board the laptop.
The trackpad deserves special mention. Now it has become much larger, which (in theory) should increase its ergonomics. Another change concerns ports. Now the laptop has no classic USB. There is only Type-C, which supports the Thunderbolt protocol. The color scheme of the new laptops has not changed one iota. It’s the same uniform gray color. The material is also the same — metal. Moreover, the body is cut from a single piece of aluminum. Therefore, no seams on the body can not be found.
In general, the design of the novelty has remained unchanged. And this is just great, since the old versions of the MacBook Pro were valued precisely because of the chic appearance. The design of laptops is recognized as a reference by many professionals. Performance is also highly praised, but for those who work long hours at the computer, design and ergonomics are the most important things. However, this does not mean at all that the new laptop is no different from the old one. The devil is in the details. And in this regard, there are more than enough changes in the MacBook Pro. Let’s consider them in more detail.
Retina display with True Tone. One of the greatest strengths of
And it really is. The displays in the updated MacBooks have become even better. Now they display colors even more reliably and boast a completely new anti-reflective coating that allows you to successfully use the laptop even outdoors on the sunniest day. Another feature is realistic black color. Usually screens based on IPS matrix do not cope well with it. But the company’s engineers have brought their Retina displays to perfection. The black color really looks black on them.
True Tone technology deserves special mention. It first appeared on the iPhone. But in laptops, its implementation has been somewhat delayed. It is understandable. The screen sizes (and the production technology itself) are incomparable. But in the 2021 model, this option has been implemented. This is a very useful feature that changes the color temperature of the display depending on the lighting conditions. However, when working in Photoshop or when processing video, it is recommended to disable this option, as it does not allow you to see the true color of the image.
Overall, the display on the MacBook Pro has always been on point. But in recent versions it has become even better (if, of course, this is possible). Now working with laptops from Apple is a real pleasure. The screen instantly adjusts to the lighting conditions and gives the correct temperature. Well, isn’t it a miracle? Add to this excellent color reproduction, minimal response time and deep blacks. Such high-quality displays are definitely not in any laptop from competitors.
Design
The design of the MacBook Air 2021 is a hybrid between the original MBA and the MacBook Pro. “Air” in 2021 is very similar to the familiar Air… with one exception – the bezels around the screen have become much smaller. And this is already characteristic of the “pro” versions of the latest generations.

Color
The 2021 MacBook Air is available in three colors: Gold, Silver and Space Gray, while the MacBook Pro is only available in Silver and Space Gray.

Weight
The new MacBook Air is slightly lighter than the MacBook Pro.
The 2021 Air weighs 1.25 kg, the MacBook Pro weighs 1.37 kg. In other words, the difference between them is minimal, and the 13.3-inch Pro version can also be called “light”.
Note that the old Air weighed 1.35 kg. So Apple engineers have something to be proud of — they made their lightest 13-inch laptop even lighter.

Thickness
The MacBook Pro is thinner than the Air (in some places). At its widest point, the new Air is thicker than the Pro — 1.56 cm versus 1.49 cm. But in general, of course, the “air” laptop is thinner than the “professional”.
BY TOPIC: Which is better to buy — Mac mini 2021 or iMac 2021? Detailed comparison.
Butterfly keyboard is quieter
Strictly speaking, the MacBook Pro’s keyboard wasn’t particularly loud before, but now it’s barely audible at all. Such an achievement became possible due to a fundamentally new design of the key switches. Now the design of the «butterfly» type is used. And between the button and the switch itself there is a rubber membrane that dampens clicks. Otherwise, almost nothing has changed. But using the keyboard has become even more convenient. Precise button presses, instant response, low noise level are its key features.
The keyboard also has an adaptive backlight for each key. The light sensor is responsible for the correct brightness of this backlight. And he is excellent at his job. Many people think that the MacBook keyboard is too low. But those who have never used a MacBook Pro say so. Then they would understand that the keyboard is one of the best Apple designs for their laptops. No wonder writers and professional journalists prefer these laptops for work. And the opinion of such authoritative comrades is very important, since they will not be scattered just like that.
Heat: or no heat
The fan on the 13″ MacBook Pro 2021 could have made a loud noise when I provoked it, but it never did, and the laptop didn’t get hot. After watching HD video streaming for 15 minutes, we measured the temperature in three different places, the laptop remained cool. In the area of the touchpad, the device recorded a temperature of 30 degrees. Between the G and H keys, the temperature was 34 degrees. And on the bottom cover 33.5 degrees. All these results did not exceed the maximum allowable threshold of 35 degrees, beyond which it will not be comfortable to use a laptop.
Pro 2021’s new trackpad is bigger and smarter
And it really is. The new MacBook trackpad takes up the lion’s share of the space below the keyboard. Such dimensions are fully justified, because it is much more convenient to use the touch pad. Yes, and gestures have become much better. But this is not the most important thing. Now, those gestures that are used in the branded Magic Mouse mouse have been added to the supported gestures. So the trackpad has become almost a full-fledged mouse. But still, it takes some skill to work with it.
However, the updated trackpad is a plus. No well-known laptop from another manufacturer has this component as rich in functionality as the MacBook Pro. Strictly speaking, you don’t even need a mouse to use a Macbook. Those who are used to controlling a laptop using a trackpad say that they are already uncomfortable with a mouse. And they are quite understandable. So the touch pad is a definite plus of the updated laptop. Improved controls always improve the device.
8th Gen Intel Core i5 7267U — Only the iMac Pro is more powerful
Now we’ve got to the fun part. Up to the performance of new laptops. If you look exclusively at synthetic tests, it turns out that only the iconic iMac Pro, which is actively used in the film industry and NASA, is more powerful than the new laptops. The question is, why does a laptop need such power? Don’t forget that MacBook Pro owners perform very complex tasks on their devices (for example, video processing). And this requires quite serious hardware power. However, let’s take a closer look at the key components of the laptop.
Processor
The base version of the MacBook pro is equipped with an eighth generation Intel Core i5 7267U. This «stone» boasts incredible performance and excellent energy efficiency. The processor has four cores running at 2.2 GHz. This is quite enough for almost all tasks. But the processor also has a Turbo mode, which accelerates the chip to 4 GHz. This is also a lot. At the same time, the processor has 8 virtual threads, which increases its performance.
RAM
The RAM in the basic version of the laptop is represented by an LPDDR4X module operating at a frequency of 2400 MHz. This is a noticeable improvement, since LPDDR3X-type «bars» were previously used. The fourth series is much faster. In the initial configuration, the amount of RAM is 8 gigabytes. But you can order a special version with 32 GB of RAM on board. However, it will be very expensive. For the average user, 8 GB is enough. Moreover, this volume is sufficient for almost all known problems.
Internal storage
MacBooks have been using SSDs for a long time. They are much more productive than classic hard drives. But they also cost significantly more. The base MacBook Pro uses a high-performance 128 GB SSD. But there are versions with 256 and 521 GB on board. One more thing. On request, a new laptop can install a drive with a capacity of 1, 2, 3 and 4 terabytes. These are incredible volumes. But be aware that the 2021 MacBook Pro with 4 terabytes of space will cost unimaginable money. 9Ol000 no complaints

- Battery life
For anyone who works on a 2021 MacBook Pro every day and finds it painful to watch the spinning “beach swords” while doing heavy tasks, I’m happy to report that the 2021 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (starting at 179$9) has a serious performance boost that I’ve been missing for so long.
The 8th Gen Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD configuration we reviewed is likely overkill, as it already costs an obscenely high $2,499. But you forget about the cost very quickly when you start using this laptop. We are talking about the fastest SSD ever installed in laptops. The test results put most Windows laptops to shame and kneel.
In other words, the 2108 MacBook Pro is a minor update, including a quieter keyboard, “Hey Siri” support, and a True Tone display. Overall, the 2021 13-inch MacBook Pro is very responsive, but unfortunately it’s not all that smooth as the battery life isn’t up to par.
Apple has identified a software bug in the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro 2021 that could affect performance during long workloads and lead to throttling. After that, the company released a software update, and the performance indicators improved.
Wireless Wi-Fi connections with AirPlay option
The MacBook Pro 2021 is fine with that. Wireless communication is carried out using an advanced Wi-Fi adapter that can work in three bands. This allows you to provide incredibly high data transfer speeds when connected to the Internet. But for this you need a router that can work in just such ranges. Without this, nothing will come of it. By the way, with the help of the built-in Wi-Fi adapter, the AirPlay option also works, which allows you to broadcast an image on Apple monitor without wires.
The
Bluetooth transmitter is a version 5.0 adapter with support for AptX, AptX HD and AVCHD codecs. With this adapter, you can connect wireless headphones to your laptop and enjoy high-quality sound. But it is necessary that the headphones also support such technologies. Otherwise, the sound will be the most common. Also, using a Bluetooth adapter, you can connect various mice, keyboards and other similar devices to the laptop. And all this is done very quickly.
Graphics: Could be better
Arguably the weakest point of the 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro is its graphics. On the OpenGL component of the Cinebench R15 test, it delivered 41.1 frames per second. Dell XPS 13 showed 49.9 fps.
In Dirt 3, the Iris Plus 655 graphics card installed in the MacBook showed 46.9 fps, at medium settings and a resolution of 1600×1050 pixels. You can get a laptop with more powerful graphics — Nvidia MX150, such as Huawei MateBook X Pro or Asus ZenBook 13, which delivers more than 110 frames per second.

Touch Bar. The Function Key Alternative
The 2021 MacBook Pro 13 has a Touch Bar for a reason. Apple has long nurtured the idea of replacing the function buttons on the keyboard and came up with this solution. The Touch Bar is a touch panel that displays exactly the buttons that are needed for a particular application (currently running). Professionals have already noted the ergonomics of this panel, saying that programming the most used Photoshop buttons with it is a piece of cake. And the speed of work in the graphic editor noticeably increases.
There is one more feature of this panel. It has built-in Touch ID. This is the fingerprint scanner that was used in past Macbooks. It allows you to securely protect your device. No one except the owner can turn it on. In general, the touchbar is a very good thing. And if earlier the applications that support this option were like a cat crying, now the list is quite impressive. You can easily feel the beauty of working with touch-sensitive function keys. Apple definitely knows a lot about innovation.

Next in line is the MacBook. Just a MacBook.
If the MacBook Air is compact, then the MacBook is tiny. It weighs 900 grams, sometimes you check if you forgot to take it with you. Smaller than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Such super-mobility makes it indispensable for business trips and traveling. You can comfortably work in a train, car — yes, anywhere.
The screen on the MacBook is excellent and second only to the Pro models. Diagonal — 12 inches, resolution — 2304 × 1440 pixels, thin frames around. The picture is bright and rich, watching movies and editing photos is a pleasure. It is curious that the baby has an impressive autonomy — an average of 8-9hours. During the working day, you can forget about the outlet.
The MacBook is passively cooled. There are no coolers, so it works silently. Heats up slightly, only in the most resource-intensive applications.
MacBook is the first Apple laptop to feature a butterfly keyboard. I got used to it quickly, I like the small key travel, and now it’s inconvenient to work on another keyboard. It seems like the fingers are falling through.

When Apple introduced the first generation of the MacBook in 2015, many didn’t take it seriously. Small, weak processor, only one USB-C port. «Dear typewriter» — that’s what they called it. For me, it was the main computer that handled all the tasks. I often went on business trips, wrote posts on the road, processed photos.
Sure, it was slower than the MacBook Pro, but this is where size matters. In 2021, the third generation was introduced with two processors — the mobile m3 and the «adult» i5. The laptop noticeably increased in speed and learned to easily cope with heavy software.
I solved the single port problem by purchasing a 27″ monitor with USB-C. On the road, the laptop remains small and convenient, and at home I work in front of a large screen. I connect the peripherals directly to the monitor, for this there is a pair of USB. In the process, the monitor also charges the MacBook. All this through a single USB-C port — here it is, the wireless future.
The only drawback of the MacBook is its high price. It costs like a MacBook Pro 13 without Touch Bar. If performance and number of ports are more important, pay attention to it.
If you’re looking for a laptop that’s mobile, nimble, and beautiful, the MacBook is the way to go.
New MacBook Pro 2021 record holders in autonomy
And this is the absolute truth. The laptop is equipped with a Li-Pol battery with a capacity of 7500 mAh and a power of 58 W / h. But it’s not about capacity or power. A lot also depends on the battery, but the main thing here is the processor and other energy-efficient components of the hardware platform. It is they who allow the laptop to work for as long as 6.5 hours under maximum load. And if you just watch movies or surf the Internet, then the battery life increases to 12 hours. And these are truly incredible results.
It is worth noting that exactly the same autonomy is observed in the top configuration of the MacBook Pro 2021 with Intel Core i9 on board. This processor is not only unrealistically powerful, it is also incredibly energy efficient. Therefore, the battery life does not change one iota. In fact, everyone knows perfectly well that MacBooks are the most enduring laptops in the world. No laptop with Windows on board can match this indicator with a MacBook. This suggests that the Mac OS used in Apple laptops also has some kind of optimization.
Lineup
If major updates from Apple really happen rarely, then the hardware still receives light updates once a year. This time they touched the screen, keyboard and «stuffing». Externally, the computer has not changed at all. In this design, the MacBook Pro, apparently, will be another two years. But judging by the news, soon we will have an update to the MacBook Air and Mac Mini.
As for the “tag”, 6-core processors appeared even in the base, and the most expensive equipment offers a processor up to Intel Core i9, the ability to increase the amount of RAM up to 32 GB and storage up to 4 TB. True, the cost of such pleasure is slightly sky-high — $ 6699, where the lion’s share of the price tag is the drive.
Apple MacBook Pro 2021 Package Contents
That’s the only thing that hasn’t changed in the new MacBook Pro. It also comes in a compact white cardboard box. On the front there is a colorful image of a laptop. There is even a barely noticeable perforation. This box is one of the pillars of Apple’s image. They even have conceptual and cool packaging. And what is inside the box?
- Apple MacBook Pro 2018;
- Charging cable;
- Charger unit itself;
- Plug for power supply;
- Required number of information leaflets;
- Instruction manual;
- Warranty card.
Not so much. But what, pray tell, can be put in a box with a laptop? Mouse? Although some kind of bonus for that kind of money would not hurt. Nevertheless, even such a package for some users is a joy. The main thing is that there is a brand new and fully functional Macbook. And everything else is not so important. At least for those who really appreciate Apple technology and are not distracted by unnecessary accessories.
Ports: Thunderbolt only
If you’re looking for a laptop with a full-size USB port or microSD card slot, then the MacBook isn’t for you. Apple continues to include four Thunderbolt 3 ports on the 13-inch MacBook Pro Touch Bar.
These ports provide high bandwidth and allow you to connect up to two 4K monitors at the same time. According to Apple, there are already more than 300 different accessories on the market that support Thunderbolt 3.
Verdict
So, let’s summarize all the above information. What can be said in general terms about the 2021 MacBook Pro? We can safely say that some models are real works of art. In particular, this applies to the option with a screen diagonal of 15 inches and top filling. However, this laptop (like any other) has its drawbacks and advantages. It is worth considering them in more detail. This will summarize all the above material. Let’s start with the benefits.
Pros
- Incredible performance;
- Reference design;
- Improved performance;
- Updated keyboard;
- Improved trackpad;
- Gorgeous screen;
- Record-breaking battery life;
- Traditional build quality;
- Availability of innovations;
- New Touch Bar;
- True Tone support.
Display: TrueTone value
At first glance, the 13-inch display of the new 2018 MacBook Pro looks the same as the previous version of the laptop. But with True Tone turned on, the screen becomes more pleasing to the eye. The laptop is equipped with a special sensor that allows the system to dynamically change the white balance of the display according to the color temperature of the lighting.
As a result, the picture may be slightly yellowish, for example, it is noticeable when working with Google Docs, but this provides a more comfortable viewing. If this bothers you, you can disable this feature in the system settings. In all other respects, the Retina Display of the new MacBook has the same characteristics as its predecessor.
In our test, the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2021 showed 119% of the sRGB color spectrum.
