Final updates for my Support Packs and farewell
Hi everyone.
It’s been almost 15 years since my first pack, now it’s time to say goodbye.
This is my last round of updates for my Support Packs. They were under testing since January to ensure the best experience to everyone.
Thanks to canonkong, a nice chinese guy, my drivers are properly signed and can be easily installed without any special procedures, even with Secure Boot enabled.
Please read the ReadMe during Setup for more useful information.
Hopefully the changes in Windows 11 won’t break the drivers to the point of being unusable.
Thanks for your support for all these years.
Take care,
daniel_k

— Fixes:
- Refresh 3 update (08/20):
— Added workaround to avoid system crash during installation on Win11, affected all Auzentech cards.
— To avoid possible (future) issues with X-Fi Titanium HD, also applied the same workaround to its driver, X-Fi PCI and Titanium PCIe already have it. - Refresh 2 update (08/16):
— Fixed Auzentech X-Fi HomeTheater HD stuck in Entertainment mode.
— Updated Auzentech APOs to latest version. - Refresh update (08/14):
— Fixed driver install bug that prevented apps from detecting the sound card on XP x64.
— Fixed driver / mixer settings not being reset to defaults after driver installation on Vista or later - Windows 10 1903 and later device detection issues / missing mixer devices.
- THX Console was not available.
- Sample Rate Converter (SRC) 48kHz bug introduced in versions 2.30 (PCI) and 2. 40 (Titanium PCIe) that crashed Windows if you:
— Tried to change master sampling rate in Audio Creation mode.
— Played a non-48kHz audio using ASIO.
— Tried to change default format of SPDIF Output.
— Played any audio while OpenAL is in use, even a Windows notification sound. - OpenAL works fine, tested on many games (Bioshock, Killing Floor).
- Fixed Auzentech Prelude / Forte / HomeTheater HD driver installation issues on Windows 10.
- Unified and optimized Auzentech Forte and HomeTheater HD drivers as they were exactly the same, except for one file.
- Auzentech Prelude driver now includes 64-bit ASIO support. Also highly optimized both XP and Vista+ drivers.
- Added optional 4MB and 8MB SoundFont Banks.
— Bugs / Limitations:
- Settings not being saved (Auzentech Prelude / Forte / HomeTheater HD)
— Configure all settings and disable and re-enable the card in Device Manager.
— If the device is busy, shutdown, hibernate or put your computer to sleep so that your settings will be saved. - Memory integrity (feature of core isolation) cannot be enabled on Windows 10
- VoiceFX is not available
It seems that the OpenAL bugs were introduced at the same time that VoiceFX was implemented (version 2.17.0007 and later). - What U Hear is not available on Vista and later (Titanium SB088x)
Before installing the Support Pack, see the ReadMe.txt \XFTI_WUH for instructions and a workaround. As a side effect, jack detection and WaveRT will be unavailable.

Auzentech X-FI Prelude 7.1 Sound Card | Installation, Drivers and Included Software | Audio
Installation, Drivers. To be honest, one of the things that really irks me most with Creative software is that it has a tendency to be either very buggy, and/or it is bloated to the max. Considering that the Auzen X-Fi Prelude uses Creative’s X-Fi drivers, it will be very interesting to see what Auzentech has decided to run with in the way of included software.
Installation was a typical affair; simply pop the card in and wait for Windows to recognise it, and then install the drivers. The drivers that I was supplied with for the review are currently in closed Beta, and are therefore not available for official release. I’m extremely happy to report that the software installation was the most painless process I have ever encountered…Especially under Windows Vista. In under 2 minutes and 1 reboot later I was up and running with the new Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1.
For those with alternative Operating Systems, particularly Linux, the news is not as good unfortunately. According to the Auzentech website a Linux driver will be made available around the 1st Quarter of 2008, but it will be limited. The first version of the X-Fi Prelude Linux-compatible driver will be very preliminary, and you can expect high-quality output without the full X-Fi Prelude feature set. Although I can understand the logic behind the decision, I still feel that it is high-time that all manufacturers acknowledged Linux as a viable enough Operating System to code a fully fledged driver and feature set for.
One thing that you will notice with the Auzen X-Fi Prelude card (if you have a windowed case) is that the card has a green LED on the side that glows static when booting up. But as soon as you get into Windows it starts to flash, and continues to do so. Some may not have a problem with it, but initially I found it a little distracting. I have included a short video illustrating the effect below:
Included SoftwareQuite honestly, this is the best inclusion of software that I have seen in a long time. No longer do you have to wade through the myriad of ‘Start Menu’ options that traditional Creative installations force upon you; instead there are just 4 — the Auzentech Audio Console, the Console Launcher, the Volume panel and Creative’s ALchemy (X-Fi Edition).
Creative ALchemy is included to provide support for an ever expanding number of games under Windows Vista. With the advent of Windows Vista, Creative ALchemy is needed to play advanced audio effects. I’ll let Auzentech explain it better:
It is necessary because prior to Windows Vista, the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) enabled DirectSound and DirectSound3D technologies to play advanced audio effects. Many games have used these technologies for dynamic audio, but those same games sound flat when played in Vista. For newer releases, OpenAL has become the favorite technology. But what about the old games? That’s where ALchemy comes in: ALchemy translates the legacy DirectSound calls into OpenAL, and then passes control over to your soundcard driver. The result is full hardware accelerated 3D Audio and EAX support, just as the developers intended.
The Audio Console allows for initial setup options and setting whatever mode that you want the Console to run in.
The Mode Switcher screen also allows for changing audio modes depending on whether you’re going to game, listen to some tunes or create something special yourself.
By now many of you will already be familiar with the different modes, particularly for those of you already with X-Fi cards, so I’m going to be very brief and just include screenshots.
Under the Gaming mode, performance is enhanced with 3D soundscape, allowing you to hear bullets whiz past your head while explosions shake your room. EAX Advanced HD sound is also included to add ‘voices’ to your game. X-Fi CMSS-3D essentially emulates realistic surround sound with only a pair of headphones. You can boost game performance even further with games that take advantage of X-RAM, freeing up system memory and improving audio quality. The X-Fi Crystalizer automatically upgrades existing games with more dynamic and realistic sound.
X-Fi CMSS-3D expands your MP3s and digital movies into surround sound over multichannel speakers, stereo speakers, or even headphones. The X-Fi Crystalizer is supposed to restore the detail and vibrance to your compressed music and movies. Apparently all the highs and lows are enhanced so you’ll hear everything in crystal clarity.
The X-Fi Crystalizer certainly should make a noticeable difference when listening to your choice of music. There’s nothing quite like ability to play ‘liquid gold’ that is DTS 96KHz/24-bit, especially if you’re decked out with a decent 5.1/7.1 setup. It’ll wreck both home and hearing with equal impunity.
The Smart Volume Management function is an interesting one, I still prefered to have it turned off.
The X-Fi Prelude supports up to eight different 24-bit hardware effects, hardware synthesis capabilities, 24-bit SoundFont sampling and 3D MIDI recording. The X-Fi Prelude provides the lowest latency ASIO recording, allowing for the most precise audio recording capabilities in any class with latency as low as one millisecond with no CPU load.
Now that we’re a little more familiar with the software side of Auzentech’s X-Fi Prelude sound card, let’s get down to the nitty gritty and see how we’re going to test it…

Auzentech X-Fi Prelude Review (Page 2 of 6)
Page 2 — A Closer Look — Hardware
The Auzentech X-Fi Prelude is a rather busy printed circuit board that packs a long list of features into the same physical size as most standard X-Fi offerings from Creative. Packing the Creative CA20K1 DSP/APU (Basically, Creative’s flagship X-Fi audio processor) onboard behind a small heatsink, it somewhat resembles the X-Fi XtremeMusic that I previously owned — all the way from the heatsink to the PCB dimensions. Software support-wise, it features everything that Creative supports the X-Fi for — EAX 5.0, as well as Creative ALchemy for hardware accelerated audio in Windows Vista. That’s where the similarities end, however. At least from first glance, it becomes apparent that the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude is with the market trend and uses 100% solid state capacitors.
Flipping the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude PCI sound card on its back reveals sharp «Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1» towards the middle of the board, along with several other things such as a ROHS compliancy logo and, surprisingly, «Made in Korea»!
A little gripe about the board itself — the PCI connectors are placed a couple millimeters to close to the PCI bracket; this card fits a little too tightly inside my case. Other than that, my only other wish is that it had a PCIe edition — which I am sure Auzentech would have heard by now from their website poll — but other than that, it’s good to go.
As mentioned earlier, the Creative CA20K1 DSP/APU — Creative X-Fi audio processor — is packed behind a small heatsink. This Creative processor has and still is a favorite amongst audio enthusiasts and gamers alike for incredible gaming audio performance, as well as being a very powerful audio processor by itself. Support for Creative ALchemy brought back hardware acceleration to Vista by translating DirectSound requests into OpenGL audio signals for the X-Fi DSP/APU; and proprietary EAX 5.0 support is definitely another welcomed feature along with a full set of home theater technologies with Auzentech’s latest driver release.
Shown above is the Exilinx XC9536XL high performance CLPD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) on the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude.
Atmel’s AT89C2051 CMOS controller chip is used on the X-Fi Prelude. It is an 8051-based, fully static chip that operates at 24MHz. Other features include 15 I/O lines, 2 timers/counters, 6 interrupts/2 priority levels, analog comparator, LED drive outputs, UART, two-level program memory lock, 2KB flash memory, as well as 128 bytes on-chip random access memory.
Right next to it on the right is a green LED that blinks when the card is functioning correctly. I actually found that fast blinking quite annoying, especially if you have a case window.
Now back on the stuff that actually matters to the audio — we’ll first have a look at the ADC (Analog to digital converter) used on the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude. Shown in the photo above is AKM’s AK5394AVS for converting analog signals such as line-in or microphone to digital signals. This is one of the best chips in the market today as a 24-bit/192kHz ADC, just in case you need to get some of that in for Skype before it tones it down for transmission. Or of course, work… like audio production. Yes, that’s right. Work. Hehe.
The Auzentech X-Fi Prelude has two Micron 48LC32M8A2 RAM chips used as the Creative X-RAM; which was first introduced with the X-Fi Fatal1ty and Elite Pro — used for storing sounds in the sound card memory to take an off load the rest of the system — at least for supported games. There are 2x32Mb ICs for a total of 64MB memory on board.
Shown above is three of four Asahi Kasei AK4396 DACs. Each of these are responsible for two channel output; for handling a total of eight channel output on the X-Fi Prelude 7.1 sound card. With a dynamic range of 120dB and a total harmonic distortion rated at -100dB, these 24-bit/192kHz DACs generally offer excellent performance — resistance to ‘jittering’ and low out of band noise — but there are better models from AKM for an improved digital filter, although the difference may be negligible.
In addition to the single 4-pin analog adapter is a set of pins for front panel audio connectors. Finally, a dedicated sound card with out-of-the-box front panel audio connectors! I was pretty darn glad to see it.
The Auzentech X-Fi Prelude incorporates National LM4562NA and Texas Instruments OPA2134 OpAmps. The LM4562NA OpAmp is shown above in its featured swappable OpAmp socket; if you don’t like it — then swap it out. It has a very low total harmonic distortion at 0.00003%. Most users should be quite familiar with this as it’s used in quite a number of enthusiast sound cards such as the Asus Xonar D2. It’s well regarded amongst audio enthusiasts and generally very well accepted.
The Texas Instruments OpAmps has a THD+N of approximately 0.00008%; it comes with excellent sound response and is also well regarded and accepted amongst many audio enthusiasts.
The array of audio connector jacks at the back are surrounded by a gold colored bracket. Like the Asus Xonar D2, there’s certainly no lack of audio connectors — four 3.5mm jacks for standard analog out; with separate line in and microphone jacks. Two digital coaxial jacks for in/out resides at the back, with included optical adapters. The digital out has a maximum bandwidth of 25mbps.
The jack labels are engraved at the back. Once installed, it becomes useless because my computer case covers all the labels — rendering these labels completely useless because it won’t be seen — at least in my case. It would be nice if each jack was illuminated color coded like the Asus Xonar D2, or at least labeled at a more convenient location.

Upgrading to Windows 8.
1 from Windows 8
Support for Windows 8.1 will end on January 10, 2023
Thank you for your loyalty. We want to help you prepare, and we encourage you to upgrade to a Windows 11 PC for support and protection.
More
Support for Windows 8 has ended and Windows 8 devices will no longer receive critical security updates. To continue to receive security updates and support, we recommend upgrading to Windows 8.1 for free.
When you move from Windows 8 and/or Windows RT to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 RT, you also get more personalization, search, apps, Windows Store, and cloud connectivity. Like all versions of Windows, these operating systems are reliable and secure.
In July 2019, the Windows 8 Store was officially closed. The ability to install or update apps from the Windows 8 Store is no longer available, but you can continue to use the apps you already installed. But since support for Windows 8 ended in January 2016, we’re offering you a free upgrade to Windows 8. 1.
Before you start
The system requirements for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 are very similar to those for Windows 8, so if your PC is already running Windows 8 (or Windows RT), you can upgrade to Windows 8.1 (or Windows RT 8.1) for free in most cases ).
Please note the following before starting the upgrade.
-
Your files, desktop apps, user accounts, and settings will be saved . Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 contain new built-in apps that will update or replace certain existing built-in apps. The apps you already have from the Windows Store won’t be saved, but after the upgrade you can reinstall them all or just the ones you need.
-
Your desktop apps and devices are checked automatically . During the upgrade process, your desktop apps and connected devices will be automatically checked and you will receive a message telling you what you need to do to prepare them for the upgrade or make them work after the upgrade. In most cases, you won’t need to take any action. Most desktop apps, devices (such as printers), and network connections will work fine after the update.
-
Consider signing in to your computer with a Microsoft account . If you’re already using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 8 or Windows RT, you can also sign in to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 with your Microsoft account. Otherwise, we recommend that you start using a Microsoft account in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. If you’re already using an Outlook.com, Xbox LIVE, Windows Phone, or Skype account, then you already have a Microsoft account.
-
You can continue working while installing update . The download and installation may take from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the speed and configuration of your computer, but you can still use your computer while the update is being installed in the background. If you want to leave your computer unattended during this time, be sure to save your work and close all open applications beforehand in case the computer needs to be restarted while you are away. After you restart your computer, you won’t be able to use it for a while (approximately 20 minutes to an hour) while updates are applied. After completing this step, you will receive detailed step-by-step instructions for configuring basic settings, and then Windows will apply any necessary final updates.
Computer preparation
Here’s what you need to do before starting the installation:
-
Make sure there is enough disk space . If you’re using Windows 8, installing Windows 8.1 32-bit requires 3,000 MB of free space, and Windows 8.1 64-bit requires 3,850 MB. On a Windows RT device, installing Windows RT 8.1 requires 2250 MB of free disk space.
-
Connect your laptop or tablet PC to the mains . It is important that the computer is connected to the power supply during the update process, because if the power is interrupted during installation, the update may not be installed correctly.
-
Connect to the Internet . It is best to keep the computer online until the update is complete. Otherwise, you will need to connect your computer again later on to complete the installation, and the process will take longer.
-
Get the latest critical and important updates . You may need some updates before installing Windows 8.1. In most cases, the latest updates will be installed automatically using Windows Update. But if you’ve turned off automatic updates and want to manually check for updates or check if the latest updates have been installed, you can do so from Windows Update.
-
Go to the Windows 8.1 download page and select your edition of Windows.
-
Click Confirm and follow the rest of the instructions to start the download.
-
If prompted, enter your Microsoft account email address and your password.
-
A security code will be sent to the alternate email address or phone number you provided for this account. This code must be entered to verify that you are the owner of this account. This will help protect your account and devices when you access sensitive information. If you have not already provided alternative contact details for your account, you will be prompted to provide them.
Note: If you signed in with a Microsoft account to your computer before installing Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, you may not need to enter a security code.
-
Photos taken on this computer are saved in the Film folder on the computer, and a small copy of each photo is automatically copied to OneDrive.
-
OneDrive storage will be used by default to save a new document. If desired, documents can always be saved locally or on another drive.
-
Windows backs up PC settings to OneDrive. If something happens to your computer and you need to replace it, you can instantly transfer your settings saved in the cloud to a new computer.
-
On the Start screen, click the Store tile to open the Windows Store.
-
Select Account and then My Apps .
-
Select the desired applications and click Install .
-
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and select Settings , and then select Change PC settings . (If you are using a mouse, move the pointer to the lower right corner of the screen, then up, then click Settings and select Change computer settings .)

-
If updates are found, select View details .
-
Select the update that contains KB 2919355 from the list and click Set .
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide confirmation.
-
After installation is complete, restart your computer and log in.

If you have a local account
To log in with your local account, enter your password. You can always use your Microsoft account later, and we encourage you to give it a try. Simply put, your Microsoft account packs a lot of great features into the new Windows. With this account, you can download apps from the Windows Store, automatically sync settings and documents between different computers, save photos to the cloud so you can access them anywhere, or see all your contacts from multiple email services and social networks at once in the People apps. and Mail.
OneDrive cloud storage
If you’re setting up a Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 PC for the first time, you’ll see new OneDrive options.
If you already have another PC running Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 and you choose to sync settings with that PC, the OneDrive settings on your current PC will also sync with that PC and you won’t see this screen.
When you click Next on this screen, your computer will use the standard OneDrive settings described below.
You can change any of these later in Computer Settings. If you want to turn off the settings now, select Turn off these OneDrive settings (not recommended) .
Final updates
Since Windows is constantly updated, it is possible that critical updates appeared after the installation of Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 was completed. Windows checks for critical updates after the first installation of Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 is complete. If such updates are found, they are downloaded automatically. It may take several minutes to download and install updates, depending on the updates you need. You may need to restart your computer several times to complete the update.
Reinstalling applications
Upgrading to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 keeps desktop apps, but Windows Store apps must be reinstalled. All Windows Store apps can be found under Your apps in the Store. Here you can choose which apps to install on your upgraded PC and install them all at once.
Note: You don’t have to wait for the applications to finish installing. Apps will install in the background while you do other things.
Installing Windows 8.1 Update (KB 2919355)
Support for Windows 8.1 will end on January 10, 2023
Thank you for your loyalty. We want to help you prepare, and we encourage you to upgrade to a Windows 11 PC for support and protection.
More
Update for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 (also known as Windows KB 2919355 ) provides improvements that make it easier to find and use your favorite apps and settings, as well as making it easier to use the mouse and keyboard, and improve security and productivity. Here’s what you need to know about installing this important update.
Check if update
is installed
If you’re using Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8. 1 and you get updates automatically, you don’t have to do anything; The Windows Update client component will download and install the update over the next few weeks. It doesn’t interrupt what you’re doing, except that you need to restart your computer to complete the installation.
To check if an update is installed, go to the home screen. If you see a search button next to your account name at the top of the Start screen, you already have an update.
Note: If you have a metered Internet connection, you will not receive updates until you switch to unlimited and check for updates manually.
Manual update installation
If your computer is running Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 and the update has not yet been installed, you can check for it and install it manually by doing the following:
Verify that the computer is connected to the Internet and is connected to the Internet using an unmerized connection. Do not turn off, turn off, or turn off your computer while the update is being installed.
Note: If KB 2919355 is not in the list of available updates, some required updates may be missing. Follow the previous steps to check for updates, install all important updates, especially KB 2919442 , restart your computer and check again for update KB 2919355 .
Free up disk space
Depending on your version of Windows, downloading and installing Update for Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 (KB 2919355 ) from Windows Update requires the following amount of disk space:
Note: These are estimates, so actual disk space required to install the update may vary slightly up or down.
Troubleshooting installation of update
If you receive the following Windows Update error messages when you try to install Windows 8. 1 or Windows RT 8.1 Update ( KB 2919355 ), you may be able to resolve the issue using one of the methods described. If you need further assistance, please contact Microsoft Support.
