  • AMD FX 8320 vs 8350

Trying to build a new computer this coming black Friday since mine is dying in more ways than one. Is it worth the price difference between the 8320 and the 8350? I use my computer for college work, photoshop for design and photo editing and most of all games such as wow and other various steam games. Also could anyone recommend a board to go with it? Going with AMD since it is cheaper since I have a tight budget.

Not worth the difference. 8350 just has higher factory clock than 8320, after OC both run about same speed.

Tight budget is not good enough reason to buy AMD processor, even Intel i3 would be better for your use because nothing you listed need many cores.

IMO, the AMD CPU’s pretty much top-out at the 4300/6300 chips and you won’t see much difference beyond that. WoW would benefit alot more from something like the i3-4150 and they are about $90 at the moment too.

If you must insist on using a non-sanctioned sitting apparatus, please consider the tensile strength
of the materials present in the object in question in comparison to your own mass volumetric density.

In other words, stop breaking shit with your fat ass.

why not intel or one of the 6-core AMD cpus instead?
also, I know it’s BF and all that, but maybe it would be better to wait for Broadwell or AMD’s new chips in the long run

Get the 8320 and just overclock it. The 8350 is just an overclocked 8320 anyway.

A Comparison: 8320 vs 8350

Testing procedure was 20 runs of IBT (AVX) at standard stress level. The purpose of these tests was not 24/7 stability but to see at what Vcore the CPU could finish 20 passes of IBT. All overclocks were a multiplier only overclock (always 200 FSB) with Medium LLC using F9 BIOS. Temperatures were core/package temp minus ambient (thermal probe from AeroCool X-Vision in front of Kuhler 920 intake).

All tests followed the same testing procedures unless otherwise stated.

While there is some variability between TIM applications, care was taken to apply the TIM in the same manner for each CPU. TIM was Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 using the rice grain method (middle dot). For both applications the cold plate and IHS were thoroughly cleaned with Goof Off and Isopropyl. After that the IHS and cold plate were tinted with ASC 2 and finally the middle dot method was used.

When testing both CPU’s at the same OC and Vcore they were within 1C of each other (margin of error). This should mean the two TIM applications were comparable.

I can’t currently push the 8350 any further due to cooling. Only have a Kuhler 920 for now, upgrading to custom loop in early January. A Kuhler 920 can only handle ~1.48V in stress tests (Prime95, IBT, OCCT, etc…) before hitting AMD’s recommended 62C core limit when the ambient is 26-28C.

  • CPU Info
  • 8320

  • Batch: 1236 PGN
  • Ran for ~4 months

  • 8350

  • Batch: 1237 PGN
  • Ran for ~1 week

  • Some Conclusions
  • 8320 hits a wall at 4. 6 GHz
  • 8350 hits a wall at 4.8 GHz
  • The 8350 requires less voltage for the same clock as the 8320 meaning it will run much cooler at the same clock.
