3DMark Vantage Performance

3DMark Vantage is an outdated DirectX 10 benchmark using 1280×1024 screen resolution. It taxes the graphics card with two scenes, one depicting a girl escaping some militarized base located within a sea cave, the other displaying a space fleet attack on a defenseless planet. It was discontinued in April 2017, and Time Spy benchmark is now recommended to be used instead.

3DMark 11 Performance GPU

3DMark 11 is an obsolete DirectX 11 benchmark by Futuremark. It used four tests based on two scenes, one being few submarines exploring the submerged wreck of a sunken ship, the other is an abandoned temple deep in the jungle. All the tests are heavy with volumetric lighting and tessellation, and despite being done in 1280×720 resolution, are relatively taxing. Discontinued in January 2020, 3DMark 11 is now superseded by Time Spy.

NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS vs NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M in benchmarks comparison

Overview of the nVidia GeForce GT 555M

nVidia GeForce GT 555M is a mobile graphics card installed in compact devices, which include a variety of laptops, all-in-ones, and some small system units. At the time of its appearance, the video card could provide an average level of performance, today it is quite outdated.

Specifications

144 unified processors are responsible for the performance of the graphics solution, which is an insignificant number even at the time the video card was released. Today, such a number of unified chips can only cause laughter.

GPU frequency reaches 590MHz, shaders operate at double frequency (1180). Such values already clearly make it clear that modern computer games are hardly tough for such a video card.

The memory standard depends on the graphics card version. In the weaker GT 555M model, DDR3 video memory is installed, which is currently very bad, because DDR4 RAM is sold with might and main in stores. The more powerful version of the GT 555M has modern GDDR5 memory, which runs at higher frequencies and is much more amenable to overclocking.

In terms of compatibility with modern APIs, the situation is controversial. Fully GeForce GT 555M only supports DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.3. The latest DirectX 12 is only partially supported, not all API functions are implemented on this mobile graphics card. With Vulcan, the situation is even worse, it is technically supported, but its performance on the GT 555M is very deplorable.

For professional tasks, a mobile video adapter is frankly bad. Despite the support of Nvidia’s proprietary Cuda technology, the GT 555M is weak, and given that mobile video cards are installed with stripped-down central processors, performance in professional programs will be depressing.

GeForce GT 555M supports the Nvenc hardware codec, which allows you to record gameplay from most games without performance loss. But such a function is unlikely to work even half of what was intended, because the GT 555M will not cope well with modern games, so the gameplay will also fail to record properly.

Manufacturers

Mobile video cards are almost always made by Nvidia, third-party companies cannot produce such graphics adapters. It is also worth considering that the GT 555M is sold exclusively as a bundle with laptops and monoblocks, it is almost impossible to purchase such a video card separately.

Comparison with other video cards

The GT 740M mobile video card can be considered the successor to the GeForce GT 555M. Both graphics adapters have roughly equal performance, but the GT 740M performs significantly better with DirectX 12 and Vulcan.

Among desktop solutions, the GT 540 can be considered equal in performance. AMD’s competitor for the GT 555M is the Radeon 6770M video card. In terms of performance, both cards are about equal, but Nvidia’s product takes the lead with partial support for DirectX 12.

Overclocking

Overclocking options depend solely on the graphics card version. Both versions have very mediocre capabilities in raising the GPU clock frequency (raising it even by 100MHz greatly increases the chip’s temperature).

With memory overclocking, everything is more complicated. DDR 3 is chasing very badly, after raising the frequencies, the video card starts to work unstably. The version with GDDR 5 allows for slightly better memory overclocking, but you should not expect impressive results.

In general, it is not recommended to overclock mobile video cards, because a powerful cooling system is very rarely installed in laptops and monoblocks (there is simply nowhere to put it).

Tests GT 555M in benchmarks and computer games

Our video card was tested in a fairly good monoblock equipped with a mobile version of Intel Core i7 and 6 gigabytes of RAM.

3DMark

In the latest version of the popular benchmark, the GeForce GT 555M struggles to score even a miserable thousand points. Frankly speaking, such a result is a monstrous failure for the video card, modern games simply won’t run on such a graphics adapter.

BattleField 3

The once popular multiplayer shooter doesn’t run at a steady 60fps even on low graphics settings. FPS constantly drops to 50 or even lower, which is especially acute in an online game. Therefore, for a comfortable game, you will have to greatly reduce the resolution, because of which the picture will become terrible.

Grand Theft Auto 5

GTA 5 can only be played at low graphics settings, and even so, the frame rate will drop during explosions and other in-game actions that put a high load on the graphics card. You can go through GTA 5 in this mode, but you can only call such gameplay enjoyable with some difficulty.

Metro 2033

Dark shooter Metro 2033 can be played at medium graphics settings. In this mode, the fps counter will be in the region of 40-50 frames per second. To ensure a stable 60 fps, you will need to set some parameters to the minimum value or reduce the screen resolution.

Crysis 3

More or less comfortable gameplay can be obtained at medium-low graphics settings. In this case, the frame rate will be in the region of 40-45 with frequent landings up to 30. To improve the situation, it is necessary to completely reduce the parameters to a minimum or refuse the FullHD resolution.

Conclusion

At the moment, devices with such a video card should be bought exclusively for office use. The GeForce GT 555M is not capable of more, even the support for relatively modern APIs and the possibility of slight overclocking cannot save it, the graphics chip has too weak performance.

The GT 555M performs well in office tasks where impressive video card capabilities are not required. For computer games or video editing, you should look at something better.

    3DMark Vantage Performance

3DMark Vantage is an outdated DirectX 10 benchmark. It loads the graphics card with two scenes, one of which is a girl running away from some kind of military base located in a sea cave, and the other is a space fleet attacking defenseless planet. Support for 3DMark Vantage was discontinued in April 2017 and it is now recommended to use the Time Spy benchmark instead.

    3DMark 11 Performance GPU

3DMark 11 is Futuremark’s legacy DirectX 11 benchmark. He used four tests based on two scenes: one is several submarines exploring a sunken ship, the other is an abandoned temple deep in the jungle. All tests make extensive use of volumetric lighting and tessellation and, despite being run at 1280×720, are relatively heavy. Support for 3DMark 11 ended in January 2020 and is now being replaced by Time Spy.
