Free Mersenne Prime Search Software

Prime95 Version 30.8 build 17

Any modern personal computer with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or FreeBSD can participate. The How it Works
page answers many questions you may have before downloading the software. You must also agree to the GIMPS free software license.

Latest version: 30.8 build 17 — see the latest WhatsNew.txt file for a full list of changes. Recent changes include:

  • Huge improvements to stage 2 of P-1 when lots of memory is available.
  • Warning: upgrading in the middle of P-1 stage 2 will restart P-1 stage 2 from scratch

Older version history

Highlights of version 30. 7 include

  • Intel Alder Lake support. Improvements to stage 2 of P-1, ECM. Added P+1 factoring.
  • Warning: upgrading in the middle of P-1 stage 2 will restart P-1 stage 2 from scratch

Highlights of version 30.3 include

  • PRP with proofs. Eliminates the need for lengthy double-checking!!!
  • Resource Limits dialog box to control Prime95’s resource usage. See the readme.txt file for setting these options

Highlights of version 29.8 include

  • AVX-512 support
  • Modified torture test dialog box with new options and better understanding of the L1/L2/L3 cache hierarchy
  • More robust implementation of Gerbicz error checking in PRP tests. This replaces LL testing as the default work type

Highlights of version 29.4 include

  • GIMPS has a new sub-project — finding (probable) prime Mersenne cofactors
  • Like LL tests, PRP tests now support shift counts to aid in running double-checks
  • PRP tests now support a type of low overhead error checking that almost guarantees correct results even on flaky hardware
  • Because PRP tests are highly reliable, we now offer the option to do PRP tests instead of Lucas-Lehmer primality tests
  • For non-base-2 PRP tests, there is a new option to run each iteration twice and rollback if a mismatch occurs

Highlights of version 29. 3 include

  • Enhanced error checking for LL tests
  • Faster step 1 GCD for ECM and P-1 factoring

Highlights of version 29.2 include

  • New benchmarking routines to determine the optimal FFT code
  • Changes to default CPU cores assigned to each worker to optimize total throughput per system
  • Optimized FFT sizes for AMD Ryzen
  • The new code will now do multithreaded trial factoring
  • Faster factoring code using FMA if available
  • Improvements to the hyperthread core detection

Joining GIMPS is usually as simple as downloading and running the program, answering a few questions, and the program does the rest.

There are cash awards for discovering a new Mersenne prime!

  1. If you have not done so, create your UserID. It’s optional, but required to check your account details, computer status and performance statistics and to assign computers to your user ID.

  2. Download the appropriate free program for your OS (see below for GPU software) and proceed to Step 3:

    non-x86 OS

Unix and non-x86 users should check out Ernst Mayer’s Mlucas page
    .

  3. Create a directory and decompress the file you just downloaded. Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP have built-in unzip features.
Other Windows users can choose from a variety of decompression programs. We use 7-zip.
Linux and FreeBSD users should use the standard tar and gzip decompression utilities.

  4. Start the program! Linux and FreeBSD users should run the program from the command line with a -m switch, i.e. ./mprime -m

Enter your optional userID created on the website in Step 1, and optionally name your computer. We recommend Windows users select Options » Start at Bootup or Start at Logon.

That’s all you need to do! The program contacts a central server called PrimeNet to get some work to do. Usually the program and PrimeNet know the best work to assign, but it’s up to you!
You can administer your account and computers on your userID’s account page. Once you complete a workunit you can track your standings on the
competitive stats pages the server updates every hour (see Top Producers in the menu, left, for more stats). You can monitor each of your
computers’ progress, even remote-control the work assignments they request using your userID’s CPUs page!

Linux and FreeBSD versions can also be set up to run every time you restart your computer.

Prime95 has been a popular choice for stress / torture testing a CPU since its introduction, especially with overclockers and system builders.
Since the software makes heavy use of the processor’s integer and floating point instructions, it feeds the processor a consistent and verifiable
workload to test the stability of the CPU and the L1/L2/L3 processor cache. Additionally, it uses all of the cores of a multi-CPU / multi-core
system to ensure a high-load stress test environment.

From the most recent «stress.txt» file included in the download:

Today’s computers are not perfect. Even brand new systems from major manufacturers can have hidden flaws. If any of several key components such as CPU, memory, cooling, etc. are not up to spec, it can lead to incorrect calculations and/or unexplained system crashes.

Overclocking is the practice of increasing the speed of the CPU and/or memory to make a machine faster at little cost. Typically, overclocking involves pushing a machine past its limits and then backing off just a little bit.

For these reasons, both non-overclockers and overclockers need programs that test the stability of their computers. This is done by running programs that put a heavy load on the computer. Though not originally designed for this purpose, this program is one of a few programs that are excellent at stress testing a computer.

The Prime95 Wikipedia page has an excellent overview
on using Prime95 to test your system and ensure it is working properly. The tips presented there should be helpful regarding how long to run
the torture test and provide a solid guideline on how long to run the Prime95 stress test.

Performing a stress test is simple:

  1. Download the software and unzip the files to your desired location.
  2. Run the Prime95 executable and select «Just Stress Testing» when asked.
  3. The default options are sufficient to do a well balanced stress test on the system.

  1. Download the appropriate program for your OS

  2. Upgrade the software. Stop and exit your current version, then install the new version overwriting the previous version. You can upgrade even if you are in the middle of testing an exponent.

  3. Restart the program.

  4. Read WhatsNew.txt

Please consult the readme.txt file for possible answers. You can also search for an answer, or ask for help in the
GIMPS forums. Otherwise, you will need to address your question to one of the two people who wrote the program.
Networking and server problems should be sent to GIMPS admin. Such problems include errors contacting the server,
problems with assignments or userids, and errors on the server’s statistics page. All other problems and questions should be sent to
George Woltman, but please consult the forums first.

See GIMPS Terms and Conditions. However, please do send bug reports and suggestions for improvements.

If you use GIMPS source code to find Mersenne primes, you must agree to adhere to the GIMPS free software license agreement.
Other than that restriction, you may use this code as you see fit.

The source code for the program is highly optimized Intel assembly language. There are many more-readable FFT algorithms available on the web and in textbooks.
The program is also completely non-portable. If you are curious anyway, you can
download all the source code (49.0MB). This file includes all the version 30.8b15 source code for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X. Last updated: 2022-05-06.

The GIMPS program is very loosely based on C code written by Richard Crandall. Luke Welsh has started a web page that points to Richard Crandall’s program and
other available source code that you can use to help search for Mersenne primes.

At this time, Ernst Mayer’s Mlucas program

is the best choice for non-Intel architectures. Luke Welsh has a web page that
points to available source code of mostly historical interest you can use to help search for Mersenne primes.

Prime 95 bietet hierfür die Benchmark-Funktion «Just Stress Testing» an.

Download Prime95 GIMPS For Windows To Stress Test Your GPU System

Prime95 overclock is a GIMPS download for PC that is small and easy-to-use free software. It allows you to find Mersenne Prime numbers designed for overclockers. This software describes what you will need to participate in GIMPS and how it works on your computer. This page is aimed at people with Intel-compatible personal computers, although in many cases it is possible for UNIX and Mac users to participate as well.

Getting Started on GIMPS

1. Create a new user account (Optional / Recommended)
Your account login is the “container” that holds your preferences, your computer and work assignments info, and your productivity statistics. There is no limit to the number of computers you can have in your account.

Registration is optional but recommended. An account is required to check your account details, computer status, and performance statistics and to assign computers to your user ID. You also need an account if you joined GIMPS before November 2008 so you can link your old PrimeNet V4.0 account and transfer your CPU work credit.

2. Download Prime95 Overclock or similar software onto your computer(s)
The How it Works page answers many questions you may have before downloading the software. The software has been upgraded through the years, since 1996, to work successfully on hundreds of thousands of home, office, school, and business computers.  The software program uses only the leftover idle processor cycles unused by other programs and has been designed to take advantage of the power of the latest processor features. Be sure to obtain permission from the computer’s owner if it’s not yours!

3. Start the program, optionally entering your user account information if you created one
The program will save your account information when you enter your user and password and starts working immediately! You can see each computer added to your account using your Computer CPU Details page, as well as its latest reported status, current assignments, and a list of results.

Prime95 Overclock GIMPS Download For PC Features

Torture Test

Prime95 features a ‘Torture Test’ that puts your CPU and RAM to the test primarily for guaranteeing the correct execution of the application on that particular PC. It comes in three variations, from ‘Small FFTs’ to ‘In-place large FFTs’ as well as the cruel ‘Blend’ mode that generates the maximum stress for your system. One thing you have to take into consideration is that you need during the operation is, at all times, a monitoring tool for your computer’s temperatures.

Performance

The successful pass of the `Torture Test` ensures you of one rock-solid computer configuration. The recommended number of hours that you should run this test, if sure of your system’s stability, is twenty-four. Beware that your processor will produce a great deal of heat and may even break down due to the extreme FPU (floating-point units) utilization. Additionally, Prime95 also provides a benchmark for your CPU that you can run and compare your results within the community.

Once you have your computers added to your account and running work assignments, you can:

  • Customize your account settings
  • Set an optional public name used for statistical reports and milestones
  • Optionally join a team to pool your stats and workload
  • Review your account status, performance, and ranking
  • Link your personal website to your stats entries
  • Remotely manage your computers from where you can:
  • Change computer names for tracking
  • Set computer-specific work assignment preferences
  • Review detailed operating stats and facts
  • Review your completed work assignments, stats, and facts
  • Be a team leader: Create and manage a team!

GIMPS requires a modern PC that is on most of the time. The program runs at the lowest possible priority. You should not see any impact on your system’s performance. The program will use about 32MB of memory and about 50MB of disk space. WARNING: Running the program continuously will use about 40 watts of additional power, about the same as an energy-saving compact fluorescent lamp – your electric bill will go up just a little bit. Credit for this prime goes not only to Patrick Laroche for running the Prime95 overclock 64 bit software, Woltman for writing the software, Blosser for keeping the Primenet server running smoothly, and the thousands of GIMPS volunteers that sifted through millions of non-prime candidates.

Please consult the readme.txt file for possible answers. You can also search for an answer, or ask for help in the GIMPS download forums. Otherwise, you will need to address your question to one of the two people who wrote the program. Networking and server problems should be sent to Scott Kurowski. Such problems include errors contacting the server, problems with assignments or users, and errors on the server’s statistics page. All other problems and questions should be sent to George Woltman, but please consult the forums first.

Prime95 overclock is the Windows version of the application serving as a client for the GIMPS download project. Putting aside the prize and the money involved in finding a new Mersenne number, the application can also deliver a great environment for system stability tests.

Mathematics is the basis of a CPU and that is what they do all day long. Thus, Prime95 can prove to be the perfect tool for checking out both performance and steadiness.

How to use prime95

An easy-to-use program specially designed for users who want to search for various Mersenne Prime numbers and run a Lucas-Lehmer primality test

Prime numbers are natural numbers other than 1 that only divide by themselves and the number 1. There are a few mathematical methods to prove the primality of numbers and as of 2011, the largest of them and has approximately thirteen million digits.

The fact that the last world records where calculated within the GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) network makes all of them Mersenne prime numbers (a positive integer equal to 1 less the power of 2).

Prime95 is the Windows version of the application serving as a client for the GIMPS project.

Comparison with other similar apps

The program’s processor stressing capabilities makes it one of the top choices of overclocking enthusiasts when it comes to testing out their new PC configurations. While considered the best in its category by many users, the alternatives comprise Orthos, CPU Free BenchMark, CPU Burn-in or IntelBurnTest.

Torture Test

Prime95 features a `Torture Test` that puts your CPU and RAM to the test primarily for guaranteeing the correct execution of the application on that particular PC. It comes in three variations, from `Small FFTs` to `In-place large FFTs` as well as the cruel `Blend` mode that generates the maximum stress for your system. One thing you have to take into consideration is that you need during the operation is, at all times, a monitoring tool for your computer’s temperatures.

Performance

The successful pass of the `Torture Test` ensures you of one rock solid computer configuration. The recommended number of hours that you should run this test, if sure of your system’s stability, is twenty-four. Beware that your processor will produce a great deal of heat and may even break down due to the extreme FPU (floating point units) utilization. Additionally, Prime95 also provides a benchmark for your CPU that you can run and compare your results within the community.

Powerful and efficient software

This combined Mersenne prime finder / system stability tester software is responsible for many things – from aiding the GIMPS network in finding new prime numbers to frying CPUs. Nevertheless, Prime95 is the real deal when it comes to both aspects of its goals; use it wisely though – look out for temperatures when running its tests and you will get your answer whether you own a fully-stable rig or not.

Graphics system (GPU)

To visually detect artifacts and freezes, you can use multiple runs of graphics (not CPU!) tests from 3DMark05/06/Vantage in AA+AF modes at the highest possible monitor screen resolution.

In addition, there are also utilities for automatic detection of artifacts.

ATITool

Despite its name, this utility works great not only with ATI (AMD) video cards, but also with nVidia video cards.

The test does its job well with the default settings, so we won’t dwell on them.

To start the test, in the main program window, click Scan for Artifacts .

When artifacts are detected, yellow pixels appear in the window with a «hairy cube» and information about errors is displayed.

Recommended testing time is 1 to 2 hours.

FurMark

If the previous test is known as the “hairy cube”, this one is known as the “hairy donut”.

The program does not offer a large number of settings. In section Run Mode , select the mode Stability Test , and also check the box Xtreme Burning Mode . When option Log GPU Temperature is activated, the temperature of the graphics chip during testing will be reflected in the log file of the program. In section Window Params , you should select the maximum screen resolution for your monitor, while you can use MSAA . The test is started when the Go! button is pressed. .

Recommended testing time is 1 to 2 hours.

Video Memory stress Test

The utility is intended for bit-by-bit testing of video card memory.

The archive contains a file Readme with a detailed description of the utility, which is highly desirable to read before using it.

Extracts from Readme

— It is necessary to deactivate the display off function for the duration of the test (or periodically move the mouse so that it does not activate).
— At the beginning of the program, the program will offer to switch to 640x480x16 mode, and it is recommended to accept this offer so that the test can capture and check more video memory. After testing (or its forced completion), the previous mode will be automatically restored.
— For a better check, it is worth running the test twice: the first time with square surfaces (for example 1024 × 1024), and the second with rectangular ones (for example 256 × 1024), and you need to choose such dimensions so that their products are not equal (1024 * 1024 not equal to 256*1024).

Known Issues:
— There are some difficulties in determining the presence and size of the TurboCache/HyperMemory buffer. So if the program checks for more or less memory than is actually available on the video card, you need to specify the number of really existing megabytes in the command line with a simple number.

— Video cards of the Radeon HD 38xx and 2xxx series (possibly others of the same generation) have problems with direct reading of video memory. Therefore, if such a card detects a large number of random errors, it must be tested in the screen buffer mode.

There are no specific recommendations for use other than those mentioned above. I will only add that you should use the full set of tests, not express and not abbreviated, and once again I will remind you about Readme .

Note

What was said in the previous sections is also true here — all of these methods should be used to identify artifacts.

Remember that if the system is overclocked via the bus, the PCI/AGP frequencies must be fixed at 33/66 MHz, otherwise various problems with almost any device are possible.

Also, in case of incorrect operation, it is recommended to check for viruses.

Method 1 for obtaining a package (quick, 2 min).

** What has changed since the last set? The method is still the same, with confirmation via mail and connection is available only through Amazon (Prime Gaming).

7.1*) If suddenly, YOU COULD NOT reach the 8th point and confirm the entry, we use the 2nd method of manually confirming the entry into the Amazon account.

To do this, simply manually enter the mail itself and confirm the entry. For example, we have mail in the format [email protected] — So we go to https://mail. rambler.ru/ and enter the mail itself.

• The mail login will be the Amazon login (soap) • The mail password will be the Amazon password (password)

We enter, at the entrance we close all the extra notifications that pop up:

We usually click on 1 letter, where we are asked to confirm the entrance to Amazon-acc.

And click on «Approve or Deny.»

Go on to step 8.

8) You will be redirected to confirm the entry (we are logged into Amazon acc), press the first button «Approve» (Approve).

9) Next, confirm the binding as usual, click on the orange button «Allow» (Allow):

10) Done!

11) Now we go directly to the game and get our long-awaited set.

That’s it, you’re done!

11.1) If suddenly you didn’t receive anything from the new set, and you have already re-logged in and enough time has passed, then go here (promotion page on Amazon): https://gaming. amazon.com/loot/worldoftankspc

Go to this page to our previously purchased Amazon-acc (the “Sign in” button on top) if you haven’t logged in yet (if you suddenly logged into another Amazon account there, we exit it).

Enter the data if the login is not made

We confirm the login via mail, as you did earlier above (if only asked).

After we return to the promotion page: https://gaming.amazon.com/loot/worldoftankspc

This should solve the problem.

12) After receiving all the goodies, we make an Amazon-acca decoupling. We go to WG and point to the Amazon icon:

Click: «Remove Binding».

We confirm our choice by clicking on «Continue»:

We get such a window and click on the button: «Close».

Everything, the decoupling is done!

Windows Memory Tester

Starting with Windows 7, this family of operating systems comes with its own RAM tester. Launching it is quite easy — just type the phrase «Checker» in the Start menu, and find «Windows Memory Checker» among the displayed options. You can also run this tool by executing the command in the Run window or Command Prompt.

Upon startup, this program will ask you when you want to run the scan — right now, by restarting your computer, or later, when you next boot Windows. The difference actually is that when you select the first item, the computer will restart immediately, and if you select the second item, then you will have to restart the computer yourself.

After the reboot, the process of checking the memory itself will begin, the time it takes to pass will be directly proportional to the amount of memory being checked — the more, the longer.

After the test is completed, the computer will restart again, after which the result of the test will be displayed in the Windows system tray. For example, if there are no errors, it will look like this:

Goals of load testing

Like any testing, a computer stress test solves certain problems. Let’s consider the most popular targets:

  1. Evaluation of system stability after overclocking.
  2. Cooling performance test.
  3. Testing the quality of components.

Let’s consider these goals in more detail.

Evaluation of system stability after «overclocking»

There are groups of users involved in fine tuning of hardware parameters to achieve maximum performance in games — «overclockers». These specialists manipulate such parameters as the frequency of the system bus, memory. Increase the processor multiplier, increase the voltage that feeds the processor. They use special versions of drivers that squeeze out all the «juice» from the capabilities of iron.

So, an excessive increase in some parameters can increase heating and reduce the stability of the computer. That is why specialists during the adjustment of parameters constantly conduct a stress test of the computer to find out whether it works stably at specific values. If stability is confirmed, as a rule, increase the parameters a little more. If there are interruptions under load, then return the parameters to the previous stable values.

The computer stress test also detects problems with the cooling system, because during the stress test the computer runs at maximum load and generates a huge amount of heat. The temperature on the processor rises very quickly, which allows you to evaluate the cooling efficiency and identify possible problems.

For example, in the case of replacing thermal paste, it is recommended to run a stress test on the computer for several minutes to understand how quickly the temperature rises and to what values it reaches. So, if in a short period of time the temperature of the processor has reached 80-90 degrees, it is worth double-checking, perhaps the heat-conducting layer is incorrectly applied or the heatsink does not fit snugly against the “back” of the processor (or even completely peeled off).

This test takes only a few minutes, but can save a lot of time later, when the system unit is screwed down and hidden deep under the table.

Component quality testing

As I wrote above, a huge amount of heat energy is released during the stress test. Therefore, the energy consumption is also maximum. This fact can be used to identify problem areas of the computer.

We are talking about the fact that increased requirements are imposed on the power supply for the output voltage. It should be within narrow limits, have a minimum of ripples and jumps. Stress testing programs usually also read sensor readings, such as voltage sensors, temperature sensors, fan speeds, etc. The combination of these indicators during a hard computing load can identify potential problems with the component at an early stage. For example, a large spread of voltages produced by a power supply may indicate its “old age” or low quality.

In addition to the processor, load testing programs can also load the video card, RAM and hard drive. Each of these components can be prone to failures, and these defects show up best during peak periods.

Service centers use a variety of system stability tests during preventive cleaning of laptops to detect possible problems at an early stage.

About Prime95

There are many different CPU testing programs available. But none of them provides 100% detection of problems. Program Prime95 also does not guarantee an absolute result. However, in practice it has been proven that the quality of its work is head and shoulders above most analogues.

The main device tested by this program is the computer’s central processing unit. In some operating modes, Prime95 can also check the RAM and partially the motherboard.

Prime95 puts a lot of stress on the CPU, making the most of all its features. Prime95 is based on the algorithm of complex mathematical calculations (the so-called Lucas-Lehmer iterations) and the subsequent comparison of the results with the reference ones. This is one of the toughest tests. If the processor is flawed, it will not be able to perform these calculations without errors.

Programs for stress testing

Well, we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t write specific programs that allow us to perform such testing. Let’s look at a few of the most popular.

OverClock Checking Tool — OCCT

The main window of the program looks like this (marked the main points):

  1. Test parameters area. You can select on various tabs to test the processor, video card or power;
  2. Buttons for starting/stopping testing, as well as a monitoring settings button;
  3. Status line. During testing, it says “Tested” and the timer displays the time since the start;
  4. Window of graphs and values from sensors. The window is toggled. Here, in real time, indicators taken from all the necessary sensors are displayed;
  5. General system information.

But this window opens when you click on the monitoring settings button:

  1. Current sensor value;
  2. Sensor name override;
  3. If the sensor value exceeds this threshold, the test is terminated. Suitable for temperature (overheating), voltage;
  4. If the value is below this threshold, the test is terminated. Useful for fan speed (stopping) or again, voltages (dips).
  5. Whether to display real-time sensor values on the graphs of the main window.

This is what the window looks like during running testing. The graphs crawled up, the status shows “Testing” and the timer counts the time.

By the way, the program keeps a kind of logs — it makes screenshots of charts in its directory:

AIDA64 (formerly Everest)

Another good program, in which stress testing a computer is not its main purpose.

The stress test is started by calling the menu command “Tools – System Stability Test”.

Well, where without summary information? On the “Statistics” tab, we see a summary from all sensors. You can evaluate the preliminary test results.

I think this article might be useful to you!

Random Access Memory (RAM)

Prime95

Recommended settings:

To test the RAM, use Blend mode .

The test is started in window Torture Test (tab Options ).

Testing is stopped manually by selecting Stop in tab Test . The recommended duration of testing is from 2 to 12 hours.

If you are using a 64-bit OS, you must use the 64-bit version of Prime95 for maximum efficiency.

Memtest86 and Memtest86+ (DOS)

This screenshot shows the Memtest86+ program running. Memtest86 looks the same.

When checking memory under DOS, the entire amount of RAM is available for the test, and the system is not loaded with unnecessary background processes in this case.

For testing, you will need a bootable floppy disk, bootable CD or bootable flash drive (the first two options are easier in my opinion).

A boot floppy disk is created directly by the program itself, or when formatting a floppy disk using Windows (select the «Create an MS-DOS boot disk» checkbox). In the latter case, you must manually write the program files to the boot floppy you have created.

3.5″ drives are currently not working in every system unit, so the program is also available as an ISO image that can be used to create a bootable CD, as well as an EXE file for burning to bootable flash drive.

Test starts automatically.

Test displays the percentage of completion of the current test Pass displays the overall percentage of completion of the test.

Test cyclic, when 9 is reached0031 Pass 100%, the value is reset to zero and the test will start again. A minimum of 4 complete runs of the test is recommended to test for stability.

LinX

When a task is large, a significant amount of RAM is used and LinX can be used as a test to check the stability of its work.

Recommended settings:
Mode — x32 for 32-bit OS and x64 for 64-bit OS;
Number of threads — according to the number of cores of your processor;
Memory capacity — all available;
Other settings are default.

If the program reports that it is impossible to use the «All» mode due to lack of memory, try to end unnecessary processes in the task manager, or select the maximum possible amount of memory manually.

Recommended testing time is 2 to 6 hours.

S&M

Unlike the LinX , the S&M test has a separate memory test mode.

Recommended settings:

Recommended testing time is 2 to 6 hours.

It should be noted that S&M does not always allow to determine the instability of RAM as effectively as other stress tests allow.

Note

Just as in the case of testing the processor, when testing RAM, you should not be limited to using any one utility — the most effective is the combined use of various stress tests.

When and why to check the processor

I want to immediately draw the attention of readers to the fact that in practice the central processing unit of a computer rarely fails. Much more often, the cause of computer instability is its RAM.

If your computer suddenly freezes, restarts, closes applications on its own, or has other problems, test it first. Learn how to check your computer’s RAM here.

If everything is in order with the computer’s memory, but the computer still does not work stably, you should check the processor, as well as other devices included in its composition.

It is also recommended to check the processor for stability when purchasing a computer (or a separate processor), even if at first glance it works fine. Such a check will make it possible to immediately identify a malfunction and refuse to purchase in time or change equipment under warranty.

The processor must also be checked after it has been overclocked (overlocked). If the processor in the overclocked state works with errors, it is advisable to reduce the degree of overclocking to achieve stability. This will avoid many problems in the future.

Sometimes it is also advisable to check the processor just to be sure of the reliability of your computer, as well as in some other cases.

How do I run a computer performance test on my Windows computer?

In today’s world, where new computer technologies appear faster than the flu, we, as manufacturers, as buyers, also need to pit two computers against each other. Speaking of system hardware, benchmarking helps to assess the capabilities of the system. In this article, we are going to take a look at several ways in which you can perform a PC Benchmark test on a Windows 10 PC.0005

So system performance benchmarking can help you decide on your next purchase, measure the difference it makes by overclocking your GPU, or simply show off your PC’s prowess to your friends.

bookmark

Have you ever compared how smoothly PUBG runs on your friend’s phone with your own and decide which one is better? Well, this is the simplest form of testing.

The benchmarking process is a method of measuring performance by running a computer program/test or set of computer programs/tests and evaluating their results. This process is often used to compare the speed or performance of software or hardware components, or even to measure Internet connectivity. This is much more practical and easier than looking at the specifications of the system and comparing it to the rest.

Generally, two different types of standards are used.

  • Application metrics measure the actual system performance when running real programs.
  • Synthetic tests are effective when testing individual system components, such as a network drive or hard drive.

Windows previously shipped with a built-in program known as the Windows Experience Index to measure the performance of your system, but this feature is now removed from the operating system. Although there are still ways to conduct benchmark tests. Now let’s look at the different ways to run the benchmark on your PC.

Run a Windows PC Benchmark

There are several ways to evaluate your PC’s performance, and we’ve explained four of them in this section. We start with built-in tools like Performance Monitor, Command Prompt and Powershell and then move on to third party apps like Prime95 and Sandra from SiSoftware.

Method 1: Use Performance Monitor

1. Enable Run command On your system, press the Windows key + R on your keyboard. (Alternatively, right-click the Start button or press Windows key + X and select Run from the Power User menu.)

2. After running the Run command, enter Perfmon in the empty text box and press the OK or Enter button. This will launch Windows Performance Monitor on your system.

3. In the right pane, open Loose Collect data by clicking the arrow next to it. Under Data Collector Groups, expand System to find System Performance.

4. Right click on System Performance and select Start «.

Windows will now collect system information for the next 60 seconds and generate a report for display. So, relax and look at the 60 hour mark, or keep doing other things in the meantime.

5. After 60 seconds, expand Reports in the Elements panel in the right column. After reporting click on the arrow next to System then System Performance. Finally tap Last entry for desktop You’ll find it under System performance Take a look at the performance report that comes with Windows.

Here you can find information about CPU, network, disk performance, etc. in various sections / ratings. The summary is obviously the cumulative result of the entire system. This includes details like which process is using the most CPU resources, which applications are using the most bandwidth on your network, etc. 0005

To get a slightly different type of performance report using Performance Monitor, do the following:

1. Run the command Run Any of the above methods and type performance/report And press Enter .

2. Let the Performance Monitor do its work for another 60 seconds, and then return to viewing. YouTube or work.

3. After 60 seconds, it will get a performance report again, which you can check. In addition to the same entries (CPU, Network, and Disk), this report contains detailed hardware and software configuration information.

4. Click Hardware Configuration to expand it, and then click Desktop Categorization.

5. Now click the + icon on the bottom prompt. This will open another subsection of returned objects, click the + icon below it.

Now you will get a list of various properties and their corresponding performance values. All values are out of 10 and should help you think about the performance of each of the properties listed.

Method 2: use command line

Is there anything you can’t work with Command line ? The answer is no.

1. Open Command Prompt as administrator Any of the following methods.

a. Click on Windows Key + X on the keyboard and press Command Prompt (Admin)

B. press the key. Windows + S , type command prompt, right-click and select Run as administrator

c. Launch the window by pressing Windows Key + R , And type CMD And press ctrl + shift + enter.

2. In the command prompt window, type « Winsat Prepop » and press Enter . The command line will now run various tests to check the performance of the GPU, CPU, disk, etc.

Let the command line take its course and complete the tests.

3. When you’re done with the command line, you’ll get a comprehensive list of how well your system performed on each test. (GPU performance and test results are measured in

seconds per second, while CPU performance is displayed in MB/s).

Method XNUMX: Using PowerShell

Command Prompt and PowerShell They are similar. Whatever one does, other versions can do it too.

1. Enable PowerShell As administrator by clicking the search bar, typing PowerShell and selecting Run as administrator. (Some may also find Windows PowerShell (Admin) in the Power User menu by pressing the Windows + X keys.)

2. In the PowerShell window, type the following command and press Enter.

Get-WmiObject-Class Win32_WinSAT

3. When you click Enter you will get scores for various parts of the system such as CPU, graphics, disk, memory, etc. These scores are out of 10 possible and comparable to Windows Experience Index scores.

Method 4: Using third party software such as Prime95 and Sandra.

There are many third-party applications that overclockers, game testers, manufacturers, etc. use to collect information about the performance of a particular system. As far as which one to use, the choice really comes down to your preference and what you’re looking for.

Prime95 is one of the most widely used CPU stress testing and whole system performance testing applications. The application itself is portable and does not need to be installed on your system. However, you will still need the file. .exe application. Follow the steps below to download the file and test it with it.

1. Click on the following Prime95 link and download the appropriate installation file for your operating system and architecture.

2. Open download site Unzip the downloaded file and click File. Prime95.exe To start the application.

3. Dialogue asking you to join GIMPS! Or it will only open a stress test on your system. Click the «Stress Test Only» button to skip creating an account and start testing.

4. Prime95 launches the torture test window by default; Go ahead and click OK if you want to perform a torture test on your CPU. The test may take some time and reveal details about the stability, heat dissipation, etc. of your processor.

However, if you just want to take a benchmark test, click Cancel to launch Prime95’s main window.

5. Here press “ option Then select Standard “… to start the test.

Another dialog box will open with various performance test setup options. Go ahead and customize the quiz to your liking, or just click OK to start the quiz.

6.Prime95 will display the test results in terms of time (lower values mean faster speed and therefore better). It may take some time for the application to complete all tests/switches depending on your processor.

Then compare the results obtained before overclocking your system to see the difference caused by overclocking. In addition, you can also compare your results / results with other computers listed on the Prime9 website5.

Another very popular test you can use is SiSoftware’s Sandra. The application is available in two versions — paid and free. The paid version obviously gives you access to a few extra features, but the free version is enough for most people. With Sandra, you can run a benchmark test to check the performance of the whole system, or run individual tests like VM performance, CPU power management, network, memory, etc.0005

To run the benchmarks using Sandra, follow these steps:

1. First go to Sandra’s next site and do File download Installation required.

2. Run the setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the application.

3. After installation, open the application and go to the Benchmarks tab.

4. Double-click Total PC Score here to perform a comprehensive comprehensive benchmark test of your system. The test will measure CPU, GPU, memory bandwidth and file system.

(Or, if you want to run benchmarks on specific components, select them from the list and continue)
