The race is on to be the head honcho in the graphics card market, and AMD announces its upcoming RDNA 3 architecture will be launching soon.

AMD has said it intends to launch its upcoming RDNA 3 graphics cards on November 3. With Nvidia recently discussing the launch of its RTX 4090 GPU, as well as the 4080, these two giants of the tech industry will once again be locked in battle for graphical supremacy. Anyone who’s been waiting in the wings for the next generation of hardware to come forth won’t have long to wait now, and it looks like some pretty powerful tech is inbound.

In a bid to make itself stand out from the competition, AMD has said its RDNA 3 range will offer more efficiency, though the architecture will still be able to go up against Nvidia in the power department. As the technology advances, so too do the GPUs that power many gamer’s machines. With the market now looking much healthier, after nearly two years of product shortages and price hikes that have plagued this current generation, there will no doubt be enthusiasts who will be looking to see what the benchmark tests show from both teams.

This latest announcement comes from senior vice president and general manager at AMD Radeon, who urged people on Twitter to «save the date» for November 3, in which the company will be looking to «launch RDNA 3 to the world.» Many are expecting team red to reveal the RX 7000 series, though at the time of writing, the naming system doesn’t appear to have been confirmed. In any case, the next generation of GPUs is fast approaching, so no doubt there will be more details to follow as the days and weeks go by.

Of course, it isn’t just Nvidia that AMD needs to keep an eye on. Intel is expected to launch its Arc graphics cards soon after what has been a long delay. There were even rumors that Intel would be canceling its range of GPUs, but things seem to be moving forward for the tech giant. However, this first iteration of Arc cards is looking more like current tech than new-gen, so it’s likely the other two won’t have much to worry about.

Given that Nvidia’s RTX 4090 will likely be much faster that its RTX 3090 Ti, the pressure is on for AMD to make a good impression by the time RDNA 3 launches. Competition is only going to get more fierce, but it sounds like both companies will have something pretty interesting to offer for gamers and enthusiasts very soon.

AMD RDNA 3 – release date, price, specs, and benchmark rumours

Samuel Willetts

Updated:

AMDGaming hardware

AMD RDNA 3 is coming, and the company’s flagship Radeon graphics card will face off against the Nvidia RTX 4090. If you’re looking for the latest official word on RX 7000 graphics cards, sprinkled with the most recent rumours, we’ve got you covered.

It’s 2022, and AMD plans to paint your gaming PC red with its next-generation AMD RDNA 3 GPUs and Zen 4 CPUs. The former will likely rank among the best graphics cards available, but they’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 and Intel’s Arc Alchemist product stacks.

Here’s everything we know about AMD RDNA 3:

AMD RDNA 3 release date

The AMD RDNA 3 release date will fall on November 3, 2022, just short of two years since the launch of team red’s current generation of Radeon graphics cards.

While the company hasn’t yet announced what AMD RDNA 3 GPUs will make the launch day cut, rumours point towards an EEC trademark filing that lists various model names, including the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

AMD RDNA 3 price speculation

AMD RDNA 3 GPUs will probably be more expensive than their RDNA 2 predecessors. The company has raised the prices of its Radeon graphics cards by 10% since November 2021, due to TSMC raising its chip wafer fabrication rates.

Unfortunately, a January 2022 report indicates that prices could rise by a further 20%, but this may also affect Intel and Nvidia products. To put this into perspective, the price of the flagship Radeon card could rise to as much as $1199 USD, up from the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT’s MSRP of $999 USD.

AMD RDNA 3 specs rumours

Rumours suggest that AMD plans to initially manufacture three RDNA 3 GPUs: Navi 31, 32, and 33. Navi 31 will likely power the most powerful graphics cards in the Radeon RX 7000 lineup, such as the RX 7900 XT, whereas Navi 32 and 33 will be used in mid-range and budget offerings.

Updates made to the Radeon Linux drivers back in August 2021 reveal that RDNA 3 could support DisplayPort 2.0 inputs. This would make them perfect for 8K/60Hz HDR monitors, or even 16K/60Hz HDR displays when using Display Stream Compression.

Rumoured RDNA 3 specs are ever-changing, but recent reports suggest the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT GPU could pack less VRAM than the RTX 4090. The card’s reduced 20GB VRAM and scaled-back Navi 31 chip suggests a full-fat Radeon RX 9700 XT may eventually show up to take on the RTX 4090 Ti (if it ever becomes a thing).

AMD RDNA 3 benchmarks speculation

No AMD RDNA 3 benchmarks have leaked yet. However, hardware leaker KittyYYuko claims that the Navi 31 GPU could be more than 2.5x as fast as the Navi 21 die used to power the 6900 XT.

At the Q2 2021 Investor Meeting, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that next-generation Ryzen consumer processors and next-generation Radeon graphics cards will be released in 2022. AMD believes that the shortage of components will continue until the end of this year, but is optimistic about 2022.

Zen 4 processors are expected to release in the second half of 2022. The new generation will replace the Zen 3+ / Zen 3 3D V-Cache chips, which are due to debut later this year. The Zen 4 architecture will be featured in EPYC 7004 server processors, codenamed Genoa, as well as Raphael consumer CPUs and Phoenix APUs. The latest series of chips will offer integrated RDNA 2 graphics. Switching to the new Zen 4 architecture will require the use of a new platform. This means that the chips will receive support for DDR5 RAM. During the shareholder meeting, Lisa Su confirmed that the company is aiming to release products based on the Zen 4 architecture next year.

“We are still planning to release a new generation of products in 2022, including 5nm Zen 4 processors and RDNA 3 graphics cards” , said Lisa Su.

Unlike Intel, which is accustomed to revealing its plans for new products long before they are actually announced, AMD is reluctant to share product details of the era that will follow the release of the Zen 4 architecture. The company has not yet confirmed which processors other than Ryzen series will receive a new 3D V-Cache technology, the essence of which is to install a special SRAM memory chip directly on top of the CCD chiplet. This technology allows you to increase the L3 cache size of the Ryzen desktop processor up to 192 MB.

The company also did not officially confirm when it is going to release video cards based on the RDNA 3 architecture. However, according to rumors, at least four GPUs will be present in the RDNA 3 gaming video cards. GPUs with the unofficial names Navi 31 and Navi 32 are credited with a new multi-chip layout, while the Navi 33 and Navi models are credited with the familiar single-chip layout.

AMD Introduces Ryzen 7000 — 5nm Zen 4 Processors with New Socket, Above 5GHz, RDNA 2 Graphics

3DNews Technologies and IT market. News Processors AMD Unveils Ryzen 7000 — 5nm Processor

The most interesting in the reviews

Andrey Sozinov

As expected, AMD today introduced a new generation of processors at Computex 2022 — Ryzen 7000. The new products are built on the new Zen 4 architecture, have integrated RDNA 2 graphics, are made in a new design for Socket AM5, support new memory and interfaces, and finally, these are the world’s first 5nm desktop CPUs.

Ryzen 7000 processors will offer up to 16 Zen 4 cores and double the L2 cache of 1MB per core compared to their Zen 2 and Zen 3 predecessors. Nothing is reported about the third-level cache, as well as the prospects for the release of chips on Zen 4 with an additional 3D V-Cache cache.

Another important detail of the new chips will be a significant increase in clock frequency. AMD indicates that the frequency in the automatic overclocking mode (Max Boost) will be higher than 5 GHz. In addition, the presentation showed how a 16-core sample of the Ryzen 7000 series processor was able to provide a frequency above 5.5 GHz in the Ghostwire: Tokyo game, which is very impressive. True, LSS was used to cool it.

AMD noted that the new processors will deliver over 15% per-thread performance gains (compared to Ryzen 95950X in Cinebench R23). Acceleration will provide an increased cache, increased frequency and architectural improvements, which should bring an increase in IPC (the number of executable instructions per clock). Unfortunately, AMD didn’t specify exactly how much IPC gain the Zen 4 architecture would provide on its own. Additional instructions are also provided to speed up the work of processors in artificial intelligence and machine learning systems.

Ryzen 7000 processors, like their predecessors, consist of three dies. Two of them are made according to the TSMC 5nm process technology and contain processor cores with the Zen 4 architecture. The third is a die with I/O interfaces, which, unlike a similar die in the CPU of previous generations, is made according to the 6nm process technology instead of 12nm.

But much more important difference of the new IO die is that it has an integrated graphics processor. So every AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop processor will be able to offer at least basic integrated graphics. Previously, regular desktop Ryzen did not have “inserts”, but only Ryzen G-series chips had them.

Another important feature of the new IO chip is support for new standards. We are talking about support for DDR5 memory, as well as the PCI Express 5.0 bus. Thus, AMD has caught up with Intel in terms of support for modern technologies in the CPU — the “blue” ones have the specified memory and bus support for Alder Lake-S, introduced at the end of 2021.

New chips are made for the new Socket AM5 socket and this is the first socket change for Ryzen processors — all previous generations, from Ryzen 1000 to Ryzen 5000, used Socket AM4. The new connector, among other things, is just needed to provide support for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. Note that with the new processor socket, AMD has finally moved away from the unloved PGA type connection with legs on the CPU, and switched to LGA execution — the legs are in the socket itself, and on the CPU there are only contact pads, like Intel has for many years. Chips with TDP up to 170 W are supported, while maintaining compatibility with coolers for Socket AM4.

AMD has not yet announced individual models of Ryzen 7000 processors, nor has it specified a release date. It was only noted that the new generation of Ryzen will debut this fall.
