    I have a large 4K monitor which is good for working, but Im planning to upgrade my graphic card so I can play something else than WoW at 4K. I will not play the most graphic demanding games tho.

    Should I get a new 2070 for ~550€ or would 1 year old 1080 ti priced at 550-600€ range be better value?

    e: Im mostly thinking about future. Would 2070 suddenly become a way better with DLSS and so on?

    I think anything less than 2080 or better is too weak for 60ish FPS.
    So either settle for less resolution and wait for the next generation or settle for less FPS with the cards you mentioned.

    I can only directly report from my 1080 ti. It runs WoW great at 4k. Other games are a different story sometimes but it is more than playable. I could also be wrong about this but usually a 80 card kind of replaces the 80 ti card of the previous generation in a power scale (but with some gains in new tech tools).

    I would mostly look at deals. If you find a great deal on a 1080ti go with it. If you find a great deal on the 2070 go with it. At least as far as WoW is concerned. I think if you plan to play 4k with different games probably the 1080ti (within the options you gave) would be a better idea but we aren’t talking about a death choice here. A few frames here or there.

    In the last three generations, 2 out of 3 the 70 matched the previous 80ti, the 970 matched the 780ti (the 800s were for laptops) the 1070 matched the 980ti. Only in this series does this not happen, the 2070 barely matches the 1080 (Outside of RT and DLSS which you can’t bet on yet). For 4k gaming the 1080ti is currently much better.

    after watching some reviews the 1080 ti does indeed look better in benchmarks. It would be horrible tho if in a year RTX 2070 outperforms a way better if games will start to use its new tech..

    For now, 1080ti is closer to 2080. so i would pick 1080ti but since its nvidia we are talking about, the gimping starts soon and 1000 series are gonna be behind even if 1080ti wins 2070 now, after few months 2070 is propably faster than 1080ti. . And yes i have owned several nvidia gpu’s aswell as amd. i had 6970+6990 (3 gpus) at one point, then 2x 290x. and 2x 780 ti, then one 980ti and now 1080ti and im not gonna even touch 2000 series. Look past and current benchmarks on vega 64 and you can clearly tell how nvidia is gimping «old» cards with drivers while amd optimizes several generation old cards with drivers.

    I wouldn’t worry about that tbh….the 20 series really isn’t worth investing in…even if youre in the market for a new GPU…I have told all my friends either get a 1080 or 1080ti and wait for Navi and the next generation of RTX

    I was faced with this exact same conundrum a month ago. I went with the 1080 ti. What clinched it for me? Witcher 3. A 1080 ti was the bare minimum for running the game at 4k 60fps on ultra. The 2070 fell well short of that. Frankly, a 1080 ti really isn’t even enough for 4k. Games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Dragon Quest 11 choke at 4k, to the point of me needing to lower the resolution slider to about 85%. A 2070 would have to go even lower. I could run WoW in 4k on my gtx 1060 for the last two years, but if you’re serious about playing AAA titles at this resolution, I would say a 1080 ti or 2080 are your gateway cards. The 2070 is probably good for 1440p but not for 4k. The 20 series is also plagued with problems and high failure rates. Get a used 1080 ti.

    They undervolt and run them cool as a cucumber.

    Cards actually get more stressed by gaming loads as they see-saw between running super hot and idle.

    Both LTT and Science Studio have done videos on it. There’s no problem with mining cards as long as the person wasn’t a complete newb to mining.

    Running them flat-out and hot is less efficient. You end up spending more on power than you gain in hash rate.

    1080 ti was a good move. Games are working great at 4k. Aorus 1080 ti with 2 years warranty left for 580€, couldn’t be happier. Used for gaming only.
