In one of the previous materials, the AMD A4-7300 APU was considered, which belongs to the budget line and is designed to assemble a simple home or office computer. If you plan to create a more productive configuration that can handle modern games, you should pay attention to models with four processor cores. This is due to the fact that in recent years, many modern innovations in the gaming industry have a processor with support for four-threaded mode in the minimum requirements.
And although there are more recent solutions in AMD’s assortment, this material will be devoted specifically to the quad-core APU of the previous generation — AMD A8-6500 . Although this model is not new, it currently looks like a fairly attractive purchase due to the relatively low cost, which is an important advantage in the current environment.

Packaging, delivery set and appearance
The device is sold in a small cardboard box, the design of which is already well known, for example, from the previously studied AMD A4-7300. On its front side it is indicated that the abbreviation «APU» (Accelerated Processing Unit) denotes the presence of processor and graphics cores, as well as a memory controller in one package.
The reverse side of the package contains a list of its contents in different languages, including Russian.
APU AMD A8-6500 package includes:
- cooling system;
- quick instructions for installing the processor and CO;
- computer case stickers.
The heat distributing cover of the device is marked with its marking and the country where the crystal was grown (Germany) and final assembly was carried out (China).
The reverse side is equipped with a standard set of contacts compatible with Socket FM2 and Socket FM2+ processor sockets.
Stock Cooling System
The AMD A8-6500 APU comes with a compact two-piece cooling system consisting of a small aluminum heatsink and a 70mm fan. Given the fact that the TDP level of the APU does not exceed 65 W, such CO should be quite enough for successful heat dissipation.
Cooler Master FA07015L12LPB (12 V; 0.25 A) blows air, which is screwed directly to the heatsink. Connection to the motherboard is carried out using a standard four-pin connector. This allows you to adjust the speed of rotation of the blades using the PWM method.
The heatsink itself is fixed on the motherboard using classic metal latches, and contacts the processor through a thin layer of applied thermal paste.
Specification analysis
Detailed APU specifications were obtained using CPU-Z and AIDA64 software. With AMD Turbo Core 3.0 technology disabled, its clock speed was at 3500 MHz with a x35 multiplier and a reference frequency of 100 MHz. Core voltage at time of reading was 1.192 V.
00 MHz, and the voltage varied from 1.152 to 1.288 V. At the time of reading, the multiplier was at the level of «x39», and the voltage was at around 1.360 V.
When using a bench cooling system, during stress tests core temperature did not exceed 46°C.
Simultaneous running of AIDA64 and MSI Kombustor load tests did not increase the temperature of the APU at all. The limiting heating remained at the same level — 46°.
The maximum recorded clock speed was 4092 MHz at application startup at 0.944 V.
The AMD A8-6500 cache is allocated as follows. 16 KB of L1 cache per core with 4 associativity channels is allocated for data caching. Instructions are allocated 64 KB of L1 cache with 2 associativity channels per dual-core module. There is also 2048 KB of L2 cache with 16 associativity channels per dual-core module. There is no L3 cache in this processor.
There is a built-in DDR3 RAM controller that supports dual-channel operation of modules with a frequency of up to 1866 MHz.
The AMD A8-6500 APU has a rather powerful built-in AMD Radeon HD 8570D graphics core. It consists of 256 universal shader processors, 32 texture units and 8 raster units. The GPU runs at a frequency of 800 MHz in nominal mode.
