Because of this performance difference, your RTX 3080 will not receive its rendering instructions promptly enough. So, despite the performance gain that it has over so many other graphics cards, that headroom is wasted because the data input is significantly lower than the maximum output.

This is what is known as bottlenecking, and it is simply a result of a difference between the maximum performance of two components in your PC.

If you are here for the first time, then we will briefly tell the background of this mini-cycle. In winter, we published a theoretical material on choosing the optimal gaming PC with a budget of $500. In it, we mentioned, as it seemed to many, a controversial bunch of Core i3-9100F and GTX 1650. We recently had a test drive of this build, and then replaced the video card with a GTX 1650 SUPER and went through the same games.

Also in the comments there were suggestions to take something more powerful for the role of the video card, from the GTX 1660 to the RTX 2060 SUPER. For the price, the latter is available to many gamers, and its 8-gig video buffer draws many games on ultras. Plus, the presence of RT and Tensor cores allows you to plunge into the world of projects with ray tracing.

There are many options for video cards of this series on the market, but we turned our attention to the more popular and affordable Palit GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER DUAL . It works at the reference frequencies of the GPU and video memory. The power subsystem includes reliable DrMOS chips, and a 2-slot cooler with several copper heat pipes, an aluminum radiator and two 90 mm axial fans is responsible for cooling the internal components.

In games, the GPU temperature did not exceed 83°C at a critical 89°C, and the frequency rose to around 1800 MHz and higher. By the way, the temperature can be visually monitored using the built-in simple LED backlight, and if you need overclocking, then there is the proprietary ThunderMaster utility.

The rest of the components of the assembly remained the same: partially available from us, and what was missing — partners helped. In particular, the Core i3-9100F processor was provided by the Telemart store for tests. It has 4 cores to 4 threads with a base frequency of 3.6GHz. The dynamic speed of all four cores does not exceed 4 GHz, and only in single-threaded mode can you count on 4.2 GHz.

The motherboard was matched to the processor, although even more could have been saved. ASRock h410CM-HDV/M.2 differs from more affordable models by having an M.2 slot with SATA and PCIe SSD support, as well as an Intel LAN controller instead of Realtek.

The processor came to us without a standard cooler. That’s nice — we were able to evaluate in practice the effectiveness of an inexpensive tower SilverStone KR02 . It handles even 130-watt models, and is also suitable for hotter options with good air circulation in the case. This cooler is assisted by three 6mm heat pipes and 92mm fluid dynamic bearing fan.

The processor RAM controller does not support fast modules, so we opted for the highest possible option — a 16-gig set DDR4-2400 HyperX Fury RGB . It offers bright LED lighting with HyperX Infrared Sync technology, Intel XMP profile compatibility, and Plug N Play auto-overclocking up to 2666MHz if the CPU and board allow it.

A modern system with an M.2 slot requires a capacious and fast solid state drive, such as the 512 GB PATRIOT P300. Under optimal conditions, the maximum sequential read and write speeds are 1700 and 1200 MB/s, respectively.

Other demanding games were installed on a 2.5-inch SSD PATRIOT Burst , and for everything else they used a Seagate BarraCuda hard drive.

The power supply does not have to be very expensive, but we do not recommend looking towards ultra-budget consumer goods either. An alternative is the 600-watt SilverStone ST60E-ES230 . It boasts a single +12V line, a fully modular cable system, a quiet 120mm fan, a basic set of protections, and over 80% efficiency.

The SilverStone PS15 case is a perfect embodiment of the motto “small, but big”! It is designed for microATX and Mini-DTX boards. The height of the CPU cooler must not exceed 154 mm, and the length of the video card must not exceed 314 mm. Pleased with the presence of a grid on the front panel, a removable dust filter on the top and tempered glass on the side. It looks nice, and it is convenient to assemble the system in it.

Assembled peripherals are from Redragon brand. We have the following impressions of her.

Mechanical keyboard Redragon DAKSA uses compact TKL format. The keys are recessed into the body and are based on OUTEMU Blue clicky switches. There is a backlight, but we did not like its implementation, although this is subjective. But I was pleased with a number of additional functions, including multimedia.

Mouse Redragon NOTHOSAUR has an optical sensor with good positioning and four preset profiles — from 1000 to 3200 DPI. For quick switching, there is a special button near the scroll wheel. Each mode has its own color for quick visual identification. And three Teflon legs on the base guarantee good glide of the mouse.

Smooth and pleasant to the touch, the Redragon CAPRICORN rug features a cute print and stitching around the perimeter. The base is made of foamed rubber — it does not fidget on the table.

Headphones Redragon ARES look good, but their budget nature is clearly visible upon closer acquaintance. The construction is completely plastic and feels flimsy. But I was pleased with the soft headband and comfortable interchangeable ear pads. Sound isolation is weak and sound quality is average, with good bass and treble, but the mids seem muffled.

In previous builds on the i3-9100F, there were no warm-up tests due to the low heat dissipation of video cards. Now we have a 175-watt model in a compact package — will this lead to overheating and throttling?

Simultaneously running the AIDA64 and FurMark stress tests, the GPU temperature stabilized at 82°, and the CPU cores did not warm up above 64°. In the testlab it was 30°. The system is noisy, but without errors.

We also noticed that the +12V line dipped to 11. 7V, and the voltages on the +5 and +3.3V channels exceeded the nominal, but everything was within the allowable range of ± 5%. This is a typical skew for a block with group stabilization.

Just a few minutes after the end of the stress tests, the temperature of the processor dropped to a maximum of 47°, and the video card to 50°. Decreased and the speed of rotation of the turntables, as well as noise.

A few more minutes of inactivity, and the temperature of the GPU no longer exceeds 41°, and the processor — 37°. Good ventilation of the case affects, but a couple of additional fans would not hurt.

High quality preset in ARK Survival Evolved reduces the render scale to 80% — I had to manually raise it to a hundred. In general, it runs well, with an average speed of about 60 FPS. True, it can’t do without small friezes, but ARK is forgivable.

In RUST we turned all the main settings to the maximum, and expected to see friezes or at least stators, but they were not. The 0.1% Low drops down to 26 fps, but without any negative impact on the footage. The processor is loaded high, and the video card is 60-80%.

Escape from Tarkov can be played on ultra. With jitters and an average speed around 60 frames / s. There was no discomfort while shooting. The processor is enough with a margin, although the video card is loaded at best by 60-70%.
