BlackBerry PlayBook Camera Replacement — iFixit Repair Guide

• Use a plastic opening tool to pry the back panel off by inserting it in between the front and back panel.

• There are clips that need to be released on all four sides of the device.

• When replacing the back cover insert the bottom side first ( usb and hdmi ports stick out about 2mm ) inserting them into the covers openings will allow for easier reassembly

Edit

• Remove the clipped ZIF data connector coming from underneath the motherboard.

• Lift up the black plastic clip with a spudger.

• Pull the connector out gently using tweezers.

• Be careful to ensure that the black plastic clip has been lifted away from the connector ribbon before pulling on the connector. The clip should be loose and easy to wiggle. Removing the connector before it is unclipped can cause damage.

Edit

• Remove the following five screws from the motherboard.

• Three 1.5×2.5mm Phillips screws

• Two 1.55×2.38mm Phillips screws

• Pry the camera assembly away from the device, lifting the left side with a spudger.

• There is a small hook on the right side of the assembly holding it in place. When removing the assembly, be sure to lift it from the left side in order to slide it out from under this hook.

How many times have you watched a video and wished you could zoom in slightly to read something that was shown on the screen? Good news – you can do this using BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0! All you need is do is use the pinch to zoom in or out gesture while viewing videos.

You can utilize this while playing videos using a HDMI connection as well. To learn more about using a HDMI connection to display content, check out the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 demo for how to watch videos using a HDMI connection.

2. Music – Peek & Now Playing

<img data-attachment-id=»4966″ data-permalink=»http://helpblog. blackberry.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-tips/playbook-multimedia-3/» data-orig-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg» data-orig-size=»300,210″ data-comments-opened=»1″ data-image-meta=»{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":""}» data-image-title=»playbook-multimedia-3″ data-image-description=»» data-medium-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg?w=300″ data-large-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg?w=300″ title=»» src=»http://rimhelpblog. files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg?w=800″ alt=»» srcset=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg 300w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-3.jpg?w=150 150w» />

One of the gestures I use a lot is the peek gesture since, as per the example in the screenshot below, it provides me with a quick way to change songs using the previous track, pause, or next track buttons. What if you need to find a specific song from the album or playlist you are currently listening to? All you need to do is tap on the album artwork instead, which will switch to the Music app and bring up the album or playlist you are listening to so you can quickly find the tune you wanted, or pick another album or playlist entirely.

3. Browser – Double tap to make Adobe® Flash® objects full screen

If a website has a video you want to watch or a game you want to play, double tap on it to make it full screen. When you want to go back to the website again, just swipe down from the top bezel. I use this tip when I watch cooking videos in the kitchen!

To help show what I mean again, the red X is where I am tapping on the screen. Here is a screenshot before double tapping on the red X:

<img data-attachment-id=»4964″ data-permalink=»http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-tips/playbook-multimedia-5/» data-orig-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg» data-orig-size=»550,256″ data-comments-opened=»1″ data-image-meta=»{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":""}» data-image-title=»playbook-multimedia-5″ data-image-description=»» data-medium-file=»https://rimhelpblog. files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg?w=300″ data-large-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg?w=550″ title=»» src=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg?w=800″ alt=»» srcset=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg 550w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg?w=150 150w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-5.jpg?w=300 300w» />

After double tapping on the red X in the previous screenshot:

<img data-attachment-id=»4963″ data-permalink=»http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-tips/playbook-multimedia-6/» data-orig-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg» data-orig-size=»550,323″ data-comments-opened=»1″ data-image-meta=»{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":""}» data-image-title=»playbook-multimedia-6″ data-image-description=»» data-medium-file=»https://rimhelpblog. files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg?w=300″ data-large-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg?w=550″ title=»» src=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg?w=800″ alt=»» srcset=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg 550w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg?w=150 150w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-6.jpg?w=300 300w» />

4. Camera and Video Options

The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera that you can use to capture great pictures. The 3 megapixel front-facing camera is perfect for quickly taking a self-portrait or creating a profile picture. With that being said, when you tap the Camera icon on a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, you’ll be presented with the following screen that contains several options. Something you’ll notice is that these options will fade away when they are not being used so you can view more of your screen. To get these options back, just tap on the screen.

To help explain these options, I’ve numbered them in the screenshot in red so you can see what they mean below:

<img data-attachment-id=»4962″ data-permalink=»http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-tips/playbook-multimedia-7/» data-orig-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg» data-orig-size=»550,323″ data-comments-opened=»1″ data-image-meta=»{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":""}» data-image-title=»playbook-multimedia-7″ data-image-description=»» data-medium-file=»https://rimhelpblog. files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg?w=300″ data-large-file=»https://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg?w=550″ title=»» src=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg?w=800″ alt=»» srcset=»http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg 550w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg?w=150 150w, http://rimhelpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/playbook-multimedia-7.jpg?w=300 300w» />

1. Current Scene Mode – If you swipe down from the top bezel while using the camera, you’ll be able to set the scene mode to one of the following options: Auto, Sports & Whiteboard (which is great for capturing images text on white backgrounds). In the screenshot, A denotes Auto has been selected.
2. Zoom Slider – Slide this toggle up and down to zoom in and out while you prepare to take a photo.
3. Geotag – This setting allows the camera to record geographical information of the location in which you take a photo. Tapping this icon will allow you toggle this feature on and off.
4. Camera/Video Camera Mode – Tapping this button will allow you to switch between the camera and video camera in case you want to shoot a video instead.
5. Camera Button – Tapping this button will snap a photo.
6. Switch Cameras – Since the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet includes two cameras, tapping this button allows you to switch between the front and rear-facing cameras

In addition to the onscreen controls, you also have the ability to access more options when using the Camera or Video Camera. All you need to do is swipe down from the top bezel while using the Camera or Video Camera, and you will have several more options displayed such as the ability to enable stabilization or change the ratio as well as access scene modes.

5. Supported Multimedia Types

A good document you will want to review and save on your tablet is the Supported Media Types on BlackBerry tablets reference guide, as it allows you to identify what types of multimedia can be used on your tablet.

For example, in the event that a video you copied to your tablet cannot be opened, the first thing you should do is identify what codec the video file is using followed by reviewing the Supported Media Types on BlackBerry tablets reference guide. To identify a multimedia file’s codec, contact the person who created the file, or use a 3rd party application available online to identify this information.

BlackBerry PlayBook. Inedible but tasty blackberries

11 years ago

«Give me that ‘pill’ over there, please.» Will she help? Can you touch? And how does it work, how long will it last? An outsider who is far from IT, once in a store, can decide that either we are talking about a “Kremlin pill”, or no pill will save the buyer. But you and I understand what the conversation is about, and the phrases “my stone burned out, my mother died” do not drive us into a stupor.
Another pill, gentlemen!

Yes, not simple, but blackberry. Guess what will be discussed? That’s right, about the BlackBerry PlayBook, a tablet computer from the Canadian company Research In Motion, which has been on sale overseas since last spring, and reached us with some delay. However, our former president was more fortunate. Almost with the start of world sales, RIM Executive Director Jim Balsillie presented Dmitry Medvedev with such a tablet. But he still has more presents from the late Steve Jobs. And if the law on gifts to officials is ratified, then everything (everything!) will have to be given to the state treasury — what a sadness.

You take it in your hand — you wave a thing. It is comfortable and pleasant to hold this small tablet in your hands. Light weight, modest body dimensions, seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 — all this refers our guest to the intermediate Tablet PC segment, which stands between touch smartphones and ten-inch tablets. And our task is to figure out whether it makes sense to take such a “baby” for ourselves. I got the BlackBerry PlayBook uncharged (even without a PSU) and unregistered.

And immediately a deep bow to the engineers from RIM, who equipped their development with a «human» microUSB interface connector, through which the PDA is also powered. Charging is neither shaky nor rolls, which is explained by the rather high battery capacity of 5300 mAh. Looking ahead, I will say that the device is just as reluctant to part with the accumulated energy.

Even when fully loaded — surfing the Internet when connected via Wi-Fi (however, there are no other options), periodically playing toys or watching movies — you can count on 8-10 hours of mutually beneficial communication with the device.

Now about the screen. He’s great. Not only did I fail to see color distortion and a catastrophic drop in brightness when turning the tablet at angles close to 180 °, the display is also amazingly contrasting and clear, because it has a resolution of 170 dpi. And how logically the control of the device with the help of gestures is organized! By swiping down from the top edge of the display, we get access to information, settings, all sorts of connections and … It’s worth stopping here for a while.

The lack of a GSM module is compensated by the ability to connect to the Internet using a BlackBerry smartphone via Bluetooth by simply installing the BlackBerry Bridge application. After that, you instantly gain access to your email, calendars, BlackBerry Messenger and other blackberry joys. You just get a smart with a big screen.

But if you have a phone of another brand, it doesn’t matter. Connect to the World Wide Web using it as a modem. How I miss this on Android (a voice crying in the wilderness). Of course, all this is worth doing if there is no free Wi-Fi access point in the area. By the way, for any on-off switches, very convenient virtual sliders-switches are used here.

Let’s get back to management. A gesture from the bottom of the screen to the top either minimizes the open application, or displays thumbnails of running programs in a line in the middle of the screen, with additional technical information at the top. Gestures from right to left and vice versa carry out flipping on the table. All movements occur smoothly, without any twitches and delays. For tactile communication with the BlackBerry PlayBook, the word «thoroughbred» is most suitable.

Very pleasant experience. Running applications can be left active when minimized, or you can pause them. But even in the first case, the power of a dual-core processor is enough to serve 4-5 running programs without slowdowns. Even when playing Full HD 1080i video that can be released (external monitor) via the microHDMI connector. Conclusion: very! U.P.

RIM updated its line of BlackBerry smartphones

May 03, 2011
12:02

Canadian Research In Motion introduced two new business smartphone BlackBerry Bold with a powerful 1. 2-GHz processor and 2.8-inch touch screen. Both models run on the updated BlackBerry 7 operating system with an improved browser and support for voice search.

Canadian Research In Motion ( RIM ) introduced two new «blackberry» business smartphones BlackBerry Bold and an updated operating system BlackBerry 7 (formerly known as 6.1). At the press conference BlackBerry World held in Orlando, Florida, representatives of RIM emphasized that the new communicators have much higher performance than the Torch model announced in August last year.

Both BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 models are equipped with a 1.2 GHz processor, a 2.8-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 640×480, a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, 8 GB of internal memory, as well as a full-size QWERTY keyboard. According to a press release, both new products are the thinnest of the BlackBerry line (10.5 mm). For comparison, the thickness of the iPhone 4 is 9.3 mm, BlackBerry Torch 9800 — 14.6 mm.

Other advantages of the updated Blackberry include built-in support for non-contact Near Field Communications (NFC), 4G networks, geolocation services, and augmented reality technologies due to the presence of a compass (magnetometer), accelerometer (orientation sensor) in devices , which determines the position of the device in space) and a proximity sensor.

Both devices run on a significantly redesigned BlackBerry OS 7 platform.
