Single Board Computer Raspberry Pi 4 Model B
02/07/2020
The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is a miniature single board computer that can fully replace a Linux desktop PC. This microcomputer uses the Broadcom BCM2711 single-chip system. The die includes a 1.5GHz quad-core 64-bit Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) processor and a 500MHz VideoCore VI GPU. According to the manufacturer, the system on the new architecture is 50% faster than previous generations of Raspberry. Faster DDR4 RAM is also used, and the Raspberry Pi 4 comes in three variants: 1, 2, and 4 GB of RAM. Our range includes the latest two versions: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 2GB and Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4GB.
Correspondingly, power consumption has increased — power supply requires a 5. 1V power supply and at least 3A. We recommend using an official power supply.
As stated, the form factor remains the same, but the layout and set of connectors have changed slightly, due to which the computer is not backward compatible with some old accessories, first of all, a new case is required. For example, Official Raspberry Pi 4 Case [Red/White]. Due to the widespread information that the RPi4 gets quite hot, it is recommended to use the Raspberry Pi 4 Aluminum Case with Fan.
Returning to the location of the connectors, we note that the RJ45 connector for gigabit Ethernet has been swapped with a pair of USB ports, moving it closer to the PoE pins. The network and USB peripherals are now connected to separate interfaces. In previous models, they were united by a common hub, which created problems. Two USB 3.0 ports have appeared, which makes it possible to connect external SSDs and other modern high-speed peripherals like webcams with 4K resolution. The full-size HDMI connector was removed from the side, replacing it with two Micro-HDMI 2. 0 connectors, which allows you to output an image to two displays at once. And finally, instead of mini-USB, USB Type-C appeared — this was required to provide the necessary 15 watts of consumption.
The platform is suitable not only for web surfing and application development, but can also become the «brain» for a robot or smart home, a media center, a distributed computing system node or an industrial controller.
