AMD FX-8100 Full Specifications — CPUAgent

The AMD FX-8100 is a Desktop processor with 8 cores, launched in 2011. It is part of the FX lineup, using the Bulldozer architecture with Socket AM3+. The core-count is effectively doubled, to 8 threads. FX-8100 has 8MB of L3 cache and operates at 2. 8 GHz by default, but can boost up to 3.7 GHz, depending on the workload. AMD is building the FX-8100 on a 32 nm production process. You may freely adjust the unlocked multiplier on FX-8100, which simplifies overclocking greatly, as you can dial in any overclocking frequency up to 4.3GHz. AMD’s processor supports DDR3 memory with a dual-channel interface. It is worth noting that this processor does not have integrated graphics. This processor can run on motherboards with the following chipsets: 760G, 770, 870, 880G, 890FX, 890GX, 970, 990FX, 990X, A78, NVIDIA GeForce 7025, NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a.

Overview of the AMD FX 8100

processor The processor was released in 2011 for motherboards with the latest Socket AM3 + connector for that time. The model belongs to the older CPUs of the FX line of the first generation, has 8 cores with frequencies of 2800-3700 megahertz and heat dissipation of 95W, which will require a good cooling system (up to 120-130W). AMD FX 8100 is made according to the technological standards of 32nm and carries the Zambezi architecture. At the time of entering the market and for the next 5-7 years, this processor was considered an excellent gaming processor with excellent overclocking potential (it is on FX8100-FX8170 processors that overclockers still set records, reaching a frequency of 8 GHz). As of 2020, the FX 8100 combined with a fairly powerful graphics card (Radeon RX470, GeForce GTX960 and older), at least 8 gigabytes of RAM and medium-low graphics settings is still able to provide fairly good performance (up to 50 frames) even in the most modern projects like Red Dead Redemption 2. In older games like GTA V and Tomb Raider 2013, AMD FX 8100 will give a comfortable number of frames per second (45fps+) at high/maximum graphics settings. This CPU can easily cope with office tasks, providing comfortable work in standard Windows and Office applications, surfing the Internet. nine0114

Appearance of Socket AM3+.

Cooling System

To cool this 95W processor, you will need a universal cooler compatible with sockets AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, AM4, FM1, FM2, FM2+. The thickness of the aluminum heatsink should be at least 50mm, and the fan diameter should be at least 90mm. In case of using the tower version of the cooler, a model with two heat pipes is sufficient.
The cooling system is fastened by joining two grooves of the metal fork of the cooler with spikes of a plastic structure located on the motherboard on both sides of the processor. To improve the heat transfer parameter, before installing the cooler, it is necessary to apply thermal paste to the surface of the processor cover. nine0114

RAM

If possible, use RAM in dual-channel mode (two or four identical bars). Choose memory modules equipped with chips on both sides of the textolite substrate. This will allow you to get the best performance from your PC.
