Gigabyte has unveiled its debut motherboards based on the X470 chipset, capable of fully unlocking the potential of AMD Ryzen 3/5/7 2000 processors (Pinnacle Ridge). The new products include three ATX form factor devices — X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi, X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi and X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming.

The head of the family is the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi. It stands out for its «10 + 2»-phase power supply system for the AM4 socket, advanced cooling for VRM transistors, the presence of a Wi-Fi adapter with a bandwidth of up to 1. 733 Gb / s, complete heat sinks for M.2 drives and an ESS Sabre9018Q2C DAC as part of the Aorus Audio audio subsystem . The motherboard supports up to 64 GB of DDR4-2133/…/3600 RAM, SLI and CrossFire graphics bundles (according to the “x8 + x8” formula), two M.2 SSDs and six SATA drives. The bottom PCI Express slot works in x4 mode.

Motherboard rear panel includes Power and Clear CMOS buttons, Wi-Fi antenna jacks, six USB 3.0 ports (including two yellow ones for external DACs), single USB 3.1 types A and C, RJ network port -45, two USB 2.0 connectors, optical S/PDIF and five Mini-Jacks.

Special attention in X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi is given to RGB-backlighting, which can be controlled by software. There are five connectors for connecting LED strips.

The more modest X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi board is limited to 11 power phases and an EPS12V power connector instead of the ATX12V and EPS12V duo (like the Gaming 7 WiFi). Accordingly, the overclocking potential of a system based on it should theoretically be lower. There are many simplifications regarding the flagship solution, but almost all of them are insignificant. The biggest “loss” is the lack of support for RAM modules with an effective frequency above 3200 MHz and the ESS Saber DAC. In addition, the X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi comes with only one M.2 SSD heatsink, no POST code indicator, no OC button for automatic CPU overclocking, no Clear CMOS and Power buttons, and two of the six USB 3.0 ports on the back panel. There are also fewer backlight zones than the Gaming 7 WiFi model.

The X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming motherboard uses the same PCB design as the X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi. In it, the manufacturer saved on a Wi-Fi / Bluetooth adapter, a heat pipe in the VRM transistor cooling system, and a number of decorative elements. There are no other changes, so the X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming board can be safely recommended instead of the aforementioned Gaming 5 WiFi for those who rely on a wired network. Prices of new products will be known from day to day.
