AMD started Radeon HD 6770 sales on January 21, 2011 at a suggested price of $129. This is a desktop video card based on TeraScale 2 architecture and 40 nm manufacturing process, primarily aimed at gamers. It has 1 GB of GDDR5 memory at 1.05 GHz, and coupled with a 128-bit interface, this creates a bandwidth of 76.8 GB / s.
In terms of compatibility, this is a dual-slot PCIe 2. 0 x16 card. Reference version length — 198 mm. An additional 1x 6-pin power cable is required for connection, and the power consumption is 108W.
It provides a weak performance in tests and games at 7.38% of the leader, which is NVIDIA TITAN RTX.

The AMD Radeon HD 6770M (or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6770) is a fast midrange graphics card for notebooks. It supports DirectX 11, and is the successor to the HD 5770, but differs from it in higher clock speeds, more shaders (80 shader difference), Eyefinity + support, and the presence of a new UVD3 video decoder. However, the card is manufactured using the same 40nm process technology and is based on the same Whister chip as the 6600M/6700M series cards.
The 480 stream processors are still based on the «old» 5D architecture used in the 5000-series cards. Thus, in terms of the number of shaders, this architecture cannot be compared with one-dimensional architectures of modern GPUs from NVIDIA. Creation of tessellations with new cards will be improved (same as in 6800 series desktop cards). Stream processors can be used with OpenCL, OpenGL 4.1, DirectX 11 and DirectCompute 11. They are also used to perform general computations such as video transcoding.
Compared to the Radeon HD 5770 , the 3D performance of the AMD Radeon HD 6770M should be slightly improved with more shaders and a higher clock speed. Thus, modern demanding games should run freely at a resolution of 1366×768 pixels on medium and high settings. Less resource intensive games like The Sims 3 and FIFA 11 will «play» on high settings and high resolutions.
New UVD3 video decoder for hardware video bitstream decoding, supports MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX, xVid), MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, Flash and Multi-View decoding codec (MVC).
In addition, the HD 6700M has an integrated HD audio controller that allows TrueHD or DTS Master Audio to be transmitted over HDMI and DisplayPort (eg Blu-ray video).
AMD High Definition 3D Technology offers support for 3D displays (built-in and external) and Blu-ray 3D. However, this solution is not as developed as NVIDIA 3D Vision.
With Eyefinity technology, you can connect up to 5 monitors at the same time, but this will only be possible if there are enough DisplayPort interfaces on the laptop.
The power consumption of this chip is the same as that of Mobility Radeon HD 5770 , so the card is installed in laptops with a diagonal of 15 inches.

Introduced in October 2009, the AMD Radeon HD 5770 GPU is a landmark product for the green-and-white giant from Sunnyvale. Thanks to the support of modern technologies, decent performance and low power consumption, video cards based on this GPU have long been the best choice in their class, and after adjusting the price, the Radeon HD 5770 competed very successfully with the budget GPUs of the GeForce 400 line.0003
With the release of the Radeon HD 6000 series graphic accelerators, AMD has expanded its product range, and this mainly concerned mid-range video cards. The company’s management decided not to withdraw the Radeon HD 57705750 from the market, but only to reduce their price, thus extending the product life cycle. The more efficient Radeon HD 68706850 and Radeon HD 6790 models took the place above it.
Radeon HD 6770. This solution is almost a complete copy of the Radeon HD 5770, but most users today will certainly be more willing to purchase the «new» Radeon HD 6770 than the «old» Radeon HD 5770.

Looking at the specifications of the Radeon HD 6770, there is no doubt about its identity with the Radeon HD 5770 graphics processor. We only need to add that the Radeon HD 6770, unlike its predecessor, has full support for the OpenGL version 4.1 API and the Unified Video Decoder 2.2 protocol, which will allow users to decode Blu-ray 3D video. Also in this regard, the HDMI interface has been updated to version 1.4a.

at the frequencies recommended by the GPU manufacturer, and, therefore, the performance level should be similar. However, the solution under consideration from ASUS has not only a modified set of ports for displaying images, but also an alternative design of the printed circuit board and cooling system. How successful the alternative version of the Radeon HD 6770 from ASUS turned out to be, we will tell a little below, but for now we will traditionally start our acquaintance with the product packaging.
The ASUS Radeon HD 6770 video accelerator comes in a small cardboard box with the image of the branded «dark knight». A large inscription next to the rider says that thanks to proprietary Voltage Tweak technology, after overclocking, the user can get up to 50% performance increase. Here, on the front side of the package, the manufacturer indicates the amount of memory that the graphics accelerator is equipped with, emphasizes DirectX 11 support and an improved design of the cooling system, which, according to ASUS engineers, contributes to less dust ingress into the radiator, and also has a longer service life.
The reverse side of the box is not particularly informative — here the manufacturer indicates the brief characteristics of the product in 12 languages (including Russian), and once again draws attention to the key features of the video card.
On one side of the package, we found a list of system requirements for the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 (also in 12 languages). Note that the power supply in such a system must have a power of at least 500 W and be capable of delivering at least 40 A through the 12V line.
The delivery set of the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 video card corresponds to the budgetary status of the product and contains only the essentials for operating the graphics accelerator:
VGA or HDMI. In our opinion, the replacement of one DVI port with the still current VGA connector is fully justified. The vast majority of users will be able to connect the necessary device to the video card to display an image without using additional adapters. In case one DVI-port is not enough for the user, the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 bundle includes an HDMI-to-DVI adapter.
The printed circuit board is made on black textolite. Its design and arrangement of elements do not noticeably differ from those proposed by AMD in the reference version of the Radeon HD 6770. The design of the cooling system determined the location of the GPU — it is slightly shifted to the right side relative to the center of the board, and half of the memory chips are located next to the graphics core.
Most of the elements of the GPU power stabilization system are located by the manufacturer in the upper left part of the printed circuit board and are devoid of any cooling. Unfortunately, we were unable to find the specifications of the PWM controller used, but an external examination of the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 board suggests that the power stabilization system is made according to the 4 + 1 phase scheme (4 for the graphics core and 1 for the video memory, respectively).
On the reverse side of the printed circuit board, half of the video memory chips are soldered, as well as the PWM controller of the power stabilization system. These elements are also deprived of cooling, which can adversely affect the overclocking potential of the video card.
In this video card, unlike the reference sample, there is only one connector for connecting a CrossFireX bridge, so it will not be possible to combine more than two such video accelerators in CrossFireX mode. However, this is unlikely to be a big disappointment for buyers, because configurations with three and four video accelerators are extremely rare, and for mid-range solutions they are practically irrelevant.
To power the ASUS Radeon HD 6770, in addition to the PCI Express bus, one 6-pin connector is used, which is placed on the side of the printed circuit board.
The JuniperXT graphics chip, made according to the 40 nm process technology, is the central part of the video card in question. It includes 800 unified processors and 16 ROPs. The rest of its characteristics are shown in the screenshot above.
Video memory with a total volume of 1 GB is collected using 8 chips of 128 MB. The chips are manufactured by Hynix (H5GQ1h34AFR T2C) and according to the documentation have an access time of 0.4 ns, which theoretically allows them to operate at an effective frequency of 5000 MHz. Recall that initially the memory on the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 operates at an effective frequency of 4800 MHz, which means you can try to speed it up with overclocking and get some performance boost.
The cooling system of the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 video card completely repeats that of the ASUS Radeon HD 5770 CuCore video card, which was in our test lab a little over a year ago, but the manufacturer no longer classifies the new solution as an «advanced» CuCore series. Behind the plastic casing with a built-in fan is a medium-sized aluminum heatsink with a copper core, which is in direct contact with the graphics core. The memory chips, as well as the power elements of the power circuits, as we have already mentioned, are not cooled by separate radiators and do not contact the main one, which may not have the best effect on the overclocking potential of the accelerator.
We tested the graphics card using the FurMark utility to evaluate the efficiency of the cooling system. In the first case, the fan speed was set automatically by the video card, and in the second case, the maximum speed was set manually.
Even in automatic mode, the cooler emits a rather noticeable noise level and operates at 57% of its capacity in the maximum load mode. However, the temperature of the graphics core in this mode of operation does not exceed 70 degrees, which is a good result.
In the maximum fan speed mode, the cooling system already starts to make a lot of noise and the temperature drops by only 4 degrees. Perhaps, in order to achieve the optimal balance between noise and cooling efficiency in such a situation, it will be relevant to manually set the turbine speed depending on the temperature of the graphics core, for example, using MSI Afterburner or Sapphire TRIXX programs.
When there is no load, the frequencies of the graphics core and memory are automatically reduced, which leads to their lower heat dissipation and lower power consumption of the video card.
