Intel switches up the graphics card for a fan, but to get the best performance out of it, you’ll need to pair it with a quality aftermarket air cooler (AIO probably isn’t worth it) and make sure Turbo Boost stays on in the BIOS.

Despite the iffy base clock, the i5-9400F doesn’t disappoint on the core front, featuring six super-fast single-threaded cores that work incredibly well with mid to high-tire graphics cards like the GTX 1660 Ti.

It features a slightly diminished 9MB Intel Smart Cache that does bring overall processing performance down, but it’s definitely not noticeable during gameplay. As it’s an F-Series chip, manual overclocking is off the table, even with a Z-Series board, but it’s more geared towards cheaper builds and h470 mobos anyway.

Even though this is an entry-level LGA 1151 CPU, peak frequencies are unreal! The base clock starts at 3.6GHz, so you can run all your favorite games smoothly without even turning on Turbo Boost in the BIOS. If you did need to push it for maximum frames and loading times, you can hit 4.2GHz

What’s more, if you’re making the transition from LGA 1150, the 9100 acts as the perfect bridge. It’s affordable, allowing you to split your funds between CPU and motherboard, it’s way quicker than any LGA 1150 CPU you’ll have used, and it only draws 65 watts, so you won’t have to fork out for a new PSU.

Whether we like it or not, LGA 1150 is a sinking ship, and although we all feel a hint of the Captain’s obligations to go down with it, we assure you, you shouldn’t. Playing old games will eventually get, well…old, so why not treat yourself to one of these LGA 1151 CPUs and start having fun again.

      The answer to this question is quite simple. The most powerful overclocking models are Core i7-5775C and Core i7-4790K .       Let’s immediately discard all celerons, pentiums and i3. Among the Core i5s, I5 4670K and I5 4690K can be distinguished. These are quite successful models with good overclocking potential, but they are still quite expensive, and the performance of even powerful four threads will not be enough for modern tasks.

      There is also the only unlocked Pentium, the Pentium G3258. It can take a fairly large frequency, but since it has only 2 cores, it is of interest only for tasks that do not require multithreading.

      For more modern tasks (including games), you will need 8-thread models. You can opt for Core i7-4790 or Core i7-4770, but there is a way to save a lot of money and at the same time almost not lose performance.

      Low-cost server models will help with this: Xeon E3 1230 v3 \ 1240 v3 \ 1270 v3 . These stones are only slightly inferior in frequency to the eminent Core I7, but at the same time they are much cheaper and work absolutely fine in most desktop motherboards.

      So what to choose

      The choice will depend on the motherboard chipset and your desire to overclock. Recall that CPU overclocking is supported (albeit with some limitations) by all chipsets, but memory overclocking is supported only by boards based on Z87 and Z97.

        If you don’t want to overclock your CPU and use your CPU more comfortably, then this is a better option than K. This SKU will be slightly cheaper and you also don’t need to spend that much money on a motherboard. It still has 4 cores and 8 threads which will give you plenty of performance for gaming and multitasking.

        The power requirements are similar and the processor supports 32GB of RAM like the other SKUs we’ve reviewed here. The processor has a base clock of 3.3GHz and can boost up to 3.7GHz, which is lower than the i7 models we reviewed here. This is because Xeon processors are made for industrial use, where they will run around the clock. That’s why the clock speed is lower.

        The processor does not come with integrated graphics, but this will not be a problem since you are going to use the graphics card for gaming anyway.

        5. Intel Core i5-4690

        The Intel Core i5-4690 was a decent mid-range processor a long time ago, but it still holds that position. It still has 4 cores, but instead of 8 threads, it only has 4. This means lower multi-threaded performance, but you still have 4 cores, so it will be comfortable to play.
