Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PS5 outperforms RTX 2070 Super, RX 5700 and RTX 2060 Super — Gambling
Digital Foundry has prepared a technical analysis and comparison of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla between PS5 and PC, revealing several interesting features.
For example, the graphics on the nextgen console are sometimes better than even the ultra-settings on the computer. First of all, this concerns the intensity of vegetation — on the PS5 there is more grass and flowers than on the highest setting on the PC.
However, DF suggests that this is an oversight on the part of the developers, since the difference in performance between the available vegetation options on the PC is minimal. Apparently, they simply forgot to implement the «Ultra-high» parameter setting on the PC.
However, alpha effects on PS5 render at a lower resolution than on PC. The situation is similar with the frame rate of animations of waving flags: in 60 FPS mode on PS5, they run at a reduced frame rate — this is very striking.
On PC, this optimization is enabled by lowering the «world detail» setting to «medium».
Let’s move on to the test itself: since the 60 FPS mode on PS5 uses dynamic 4K, which shows 1440p in complex scenes, and there is no full implementation of dynamic resolution on PC, the performance was compared in episodes where PS5 shows 1440p.
On the PC, they simply turned on this permission.
The scene chosen for analysis is the moment from the beginning of Valhalla, where Eivor is freed from his bonds. There is the lowest resolution, and there are frame rate drops.
As it turned out, using similar graphics settings in the most difficult scene of the episode, the results are as follows:
- RTX 2080 Ti — 62 FPS
- PS5 — 51 FPS
- RTX 2070 Super — 46 FPS
- Radeon RX 5700 — 43 FPS
- RTX 2060 Super — 41 FPS.
According to Alex Battaglia, the PlayStation 5 in Valhalla shows performance on par with the base RTX 2080 Super or RTX 3060 Ti. What is remarkable, by the way, the game works better on AMD video cards than on NVIDIA offers.

Overall, Digital Foundry found Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s graphics settings on PC to be poor. They have little effect on performance, and some of the parameters are generally absent or poorly represented — in fact, there is no dynamic resolution.
Its analogue is hidden in the anti-aliasing setting when the «adaptive» option is turned on, but it is not aggressive enough — in 4K it will reduce the resolution to 1836p at best.
