MasterWatt 550 Watt – Semifanless Modular Power Supply

This review is on the MasterWatt 550 watt modular power supply. I have had the chance to review many modular power supplies, but this one has really made an impact on me.
With it being modular, I can easily upgrade to larger or increased size modules without having to change the whole server. It will also blend with any existing server, so if you want to move the server, all you need to do is take out the new module.
The thing that really impressed me about this power supply was its efficiency and temperature range. My desktop computer is a Gigabyte (with a quad-core processor) and normally, my power supply needs to stay within a few degrees of ambient temperature all the time.
That is when I saw this unit’s temperature range at just below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The wattage output on this unit is not heavy but still allows my computers to process multiple tasks at the same time. There was a noticeable increase in performance from both graphic and processing tasks when using the unit at these levels.
I also really liked how the Master watt 550 watt Modular Power Supply kept my computer cool. It did not get hot during use. The entire unit took just seconds to heat up to the temperature that I wanted it to be at. I especially love how it is silent. There is no buzzing sound like other power supplies make. This is definitely a great power supply to buy.

What GTX 1070 Wattage Do You Need?
Nvidia recommends a minimum wattage of 500W for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070. However, a number of factors come into play here. And depending on the build, a good-quality 450 Watt PSU should also be enough.
– What Does the Wattage Depend On?
Well, first of all, it depends on the rest of your build. If you have an impressive, power-hungry setup with numerous HDDs and SSDs, then even 500 Watts might not be enough. Of course, such a setup is quite rare.
But more important than the setup is the quality of your PSU. If you have a 450-500W PSU from a well-known brand, then it should be enough. However, if you have a no-brand, poor-quality PSU, it might not be sufficient at all.
Another important thing that plays a role is the number of watts it can do on individual rails. You can find these ratings on your PSU’s label. Some hardly pay any attention to the 12V rail shared by the GPU and CPU, which is a big red flag.
So, for instance, if your PSU specifications state that it can provide 450W on the 12 rail, then you won’t have any problems running a chip like an i7 along with 1070. And even then, you’ll have enough capacity for other parts like HDDs and fans.
However, if your PSU can only provide 200W on the 12V rail even though it is advertised as a 450W unit, it will most likely end up overloading as soon as you launch a game.
– Wattage Needed for the Nvidia Founders Edition GeForce GTX 1070 Card
Just like the standard GTX 1070 card, Nvidia recommends 500W for this card, too. But as explained above, this might not be enough depending on your setup. At the same time, 500W can be too much if all you want to do is run a basic i5 chip along with the graphics card.
The i5 chip takes about 75W, while 1070 consumes 175W (when it’s overclocked), which leaves enough wattage headroom for the other components.
– Power the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Need
Both the MSI GeForce GTX1070Fe8g and the 1070 Ti consume the same amount of power when they’re idle, but that changes when you put a little load.
Under load, the Ti uses roughly 10-20 Watts more, but that is to be expected since the MSI GTX 1070 is rated at 150 Watts while the 1070 Ti is rated for 180 watts.
Are 450 Watts Enough for the GTX 1070?
This highly depends on what CPU you’re running, as well as other components in the box. If the setup pushes the 450W PSU too much, it’s better to go a little up and use a 500-550W PSU.
To better understand the right GTX 1070 wattage, let’s break it down. On average, your chip, graphics card, and monitor consume around 300 Watts, and an HDD under load adds another 5-10W to that. So if you have a couple of HDDs or SSDs, you can expect the consumption to be somewhere around 350W.
Under load, this might stress your PSU very close to its rated wattage. While this shouldn’t be an issue in most cases, it’s best not to run the setup so close to the full load all the time. This is because it isn’t good for the PSU’s longevity. Plus, PSUs are highly efficient at 50-70%.
So what does this all mean?
The bottom line is that if your system pulls a maximum of around 300W, including the fans, SSD, HDD, etc., then 450W is more than enough. However, if the components are closer to pulling 400W, then it’s best to choose a 500W PSU.
– What About the i7-7700 With 1070?
Let’s break down the consumption of this setup to understand it better. In terms of wattage, 1070 consumes 150W while the overclocked wattage is 175W. And the i7-7700 is a 65W TDP processor. As mentioned above, the fans, drives, and RAM sticks take about 5-10W each, while the motherboard needs roughly 20W.
Assuming you have four RAM sticks, three drives, and four fans, your motherboard, along with these components, will consume 75W at most. Add to this the 65W for the CPU and the 175W for the GPU.
With these values in mind, your setup will consume 315W at most, but realistically, the power consumption will be somewhere around 260W. Assuming the realistic peak load is at about 60% of the maximum PSU load rating, the actual wattage your setup will consume will come out to be somewhere around 430W.
A 450W PSU will be too close to the actual load, which is never recommended. Instead, you’ll be good with a 500-550W. Any more than that is just unnecessary unless you’re planning on adding more components like a second GPU.
FAQ
– How Much Is the GTX 1070 Idle Power Consumption?
The card consumes less than 10W when it is idle. Usually, it’s around 7-10W. In comparison, it consumes 33W at full memory speed and a clock. And in the adaptive mode, when nothing is used, the card clocks down to 2000 MHz memory and 139 MHz clock, which consumes around 7W.
– Does the GeForce RTX Need More Power Than the GTX?
The RTX series of graphics cards are more powerful than the GTX, which means they also consume more power than all the cards in the GTX lineup.
– How Much Power Does the GTX 1070 Consume for Mining?
Even though the 1070 is more famous for gaming, it’s also a great pick for cryptocurrency mining, especially since it has a high 30mh/s hash rate.
And if you consider the GTX 1070 power consumption, mining takes about 147 Watts with the display off, which is not much.
– How Much Power Do You Need for an Overclocked GTX 1070?
If you plan on overclocking the GTX 1070 or your processor, it’s best that you get something more powerful than the Nvidia-recommended 500W, especially considering the fact that a PSU’s maximum power efficiency is at 50% load.
So, for instance, if your setup uses an average of 400 Watts, the most energy-efficient model, in that case, would be an 800 Watt power supply.
– What Happens if You Don’t Meet the Wattage Requirements?
If your PSU is unable to cope with your system’s load, it can result in crashing games or games freezing randomly, poor 3D performance, your PC resetting spontaneously, or worse, causing the PSU to break down completely and potentially damaging your components.
So when purchasing a PSU, your goal shouldn’t be to purchase a model with just enough power. A PSU at around 90% is never good. Instead, you should buy a PSU that doesn’t cross 70% even when you’re gaming.
– How Much Power Do You Need for EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC Gaming AXC 3.0 Black Edition?
Just like other GTX 1070 8GB cards discussed above, the minimum recommended power for this graphics card is also 500 Watts.
Conclusion
In this article, we’ve discussed the different GTX 1070 specs, including the ideal wattage you require. Let’s quickly sum up all that we’ve mentioned:
- While Nvidia recommends getting a minimum 500W PSU, you might need less or more than that, depending on your setup.
- The more components you add (like a second 1070), the more power your system will require. So make sure you factor that in when choosing the right PSU.
- Whether you have the EVGA, MSI, or Nvidia’s Founders Edition 1070, the minimum recommended wattage is 500W.
Just make sure that you purchase a high-quality PSU from a known brand so that you don’t put your setup at risk.

You should buy the best GTX 1070 Ti graphics card so you don’t waste your money. Here is a list of the best.
- Excellent build quality
- Guapo
- Exceptional overclocking performance
La Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti It was launched in 2017 as an updated and improved version of the GTX 1070 offering better performance but at a higher price.
This used to be a great high-end prospect as it performed on par with the original GTX 1080, but with the RTX 2070 in the picture, its value becomes somewhat questionable. However, if you’re not looking for the latest and greatest, the GTX 1070 Ti is quite affordable and a great way to handle 1440p and 4K gaming.
So, without further ado, here they are los Mejores Models 1070 GTX Ti is currently available.

About the
Zotac is one of Nvidia’s youngest partners, but also one of the most trusted partners known for its great GeForce cards as well as additional hardware.
We start this list with the Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Mini, a very compact graphics card, at least when it comes to high-end graphics cards. Zotac has a «mini version» of all Pascal GPUs, from 1050 to 1080 Ti, and the 1070 Ti is no exception to the rule.
However, unlike low-end and mid-range graphics cards that favor compactness, this card comes with two fans instead of the usual single fan design.
While this makes it a bit bulkier, it is still a suitable high-end GPU that fits perfectly into Mini ITX cases. Thanks to this increase in size, the external volume is minimal, and the card comes with a back panel.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1683 MHz |
communication | 3x DisplayPort 1.4 1x HDMI 2.0 1x Dual Link DVI-D |
Power input | 180W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our thoughts
The most obvious advantage of the Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Mini is its size. Its compact body allows it to fit in most computer cases — 99% according to Zotac. As such, this is by far the best option if you’re looking to build a powerful Mini ITX gaming PC, or if you’re looking to install a GPU in an external GPU case.
The card’s most notable shortcoming is the same as in all «mini» models: mediocre cooling. Namely, while this particular model comes with two fans that will keep the card warm at factory clock settings without issue, they will inevitably get noisy under load.
Needless to say, this also means the card really won’t perform as well when it comes to overclocking.
Product points:
- Decent overclocking performance
- Good build quality
Indicates product:
- Non-neutral design
About
The next card we’ve built is a bit more serious when it comes to performance: the MSI GTX 1070 Ti. This card belongs to MSI’s well-known Gaming graphics card series, featuring excellent performance, good price, and a design philosophy that may seem too complicated for some people.
The card features two huge Torx 2.0 fans with two ball bearings and an eye-catching design with lots of red highlights, including a set of red LEDs and an RGB logo on the side. Of course, it also comes with a stylish rear panel.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1683 MHz |
communication | 3x DisplayPort 1.4 1x HDMI 2.0 1x dual link DVI-D |
Power input | 180W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our thoughts
Ultimately, this card has three advantages: cooling performance, build quality and design, although the latter is largely a matter of preference. However, the card has good overclocking performance and the fans are very reliable and efficient, and the aggressive design and lighting help make it a suitable gaming card.
However, this particular design approach may discourage some people from buying this particular model. Of course, it looks great on its own, but with bright red accents, the look is hardly neutral. As such, it may not aesthetically match some settings.
Product points:
- Decent overclocking performance
- Quality Construction
- Elegant neutral design
Indicates product:
- Without back plate
- Without RGB lighting
About
Another manufacturer that can’t be overlooked when it comes to Nvidia graphics cards is, of course, EVGA. There’s no denying that they make some of the best graphics cards out there, and even though the GTX 1070 Ti SC Games may not be the best model available, it still offers great value for money.
The
EVGA has kept the look almost identical to all other graphics cards in the series, with two ACX 3.0 fans and a sleek, detailed look. However, unlike most high-end graphics cards, there is no backplane this time around.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1683 MHz |
communication | 3x DisplayPort 1.4 1x HDMI 2.0 1x Dual Link DVI-D |
Power input | 217W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our Thoughts
In terms of performance, this EVGA model is almost as good as the previous MSI model. Both use dual-fan cooling, while the ACX 3.0 and Torx 2.0 are very reliable dual-ball bearing fans.
There are no major performance differences between them and their price is quite good even at the moment. However, there is one area where they differ, and that is design.
Clearly, EVGA’s sleeker, color-neutral design still delivers the same «gaming vibe» as MSI’s model without being too flashy. However, it lacks RGB and a rear panel, the absence of the latter for a card in this price category is rather unusual.
So, in the end, choosing one of these two cards will depend entirely on your preference when it comes to exterior design. If you’re looking for a more performance-focused solution, you’ll be wondering what’s next.
Product points:
- Excellent performance
- Rugged design
- Neutral design
Indicates product:
- Quite large
About the video card
With the next video card we move on to Gigabyte, another well-known and versatile hardware manufacturer. The card in question is your GTX 1070 Ti Game model, and it’s an excellent card in almost every area.
The card features the recognizable Gigabyte design with orange stripes on the front and three striped Windforce fans, which combined with the card’s massive heatsink provide excellent heat dissipation.
Of course, the card comes with a fancy metal backplate, and the manufacturer didn’t skimp on RGB, although it’s a rather modest implementation, limited by the Gigabyte logo and fan stop indicator on the side.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1721 MHz |
communication | 3x DisplayPort 1.4 1x HDMI 2.0 1x Dual Link DVI-D |
Power input | 180W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our Thoughts
As mentioned in the introduction, this is an exemplary graphics card, no matter how you choose to view it. In terms of performance, it should be fairly obvious from the three-fan design that it can outperform the smaller models and support some serious overclocking.
Build quality is good too, the card is built to last and last. In terms of aesthetics, the design is fairly minimal, so the card will fit most versions without issue.
The only problem with this card is the card that inevitably comes with all three-fan models, and that’s the size. This is a fairly large card and only fits ATX or eATX cases, so if your case is smaller it would be best to make sure you can fit this giant beforehand.
Product Points:
- Top-notch overclocking performance
- Rugged design
- Elegant and clean design
- Wide RGB Illumination
Indicates product:
- Dear
- Unusual port selection
- large
About the video card
Of course, how could we talk about gaming video cards without mentioning one of the recognizable brands of Asus Republic of Gamers: Rogue Strix GTX 1070 Ti? And if you’ve ever come across a RoG Strix card (and you probably have), you know exactly what to expect.
This model features a huge triple-fan graphics card with a minimalist black exterior, a sleek metal backplate complemented by expansive RGB lighting that not only covers the stripes on the front but also the RoG logo on the back.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1759 MHz |
communication | 2x DisplayPort 1. 4 2x HDMI 2.0 1x Dual Link DVI-D |
Power input | 180W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our Thoughts
Simply put, this is the card to go for if you’re looking for a top-notch card that can overclock and get the most out of performance. This model simply has it all: reliability, aesthetics and performance.
However, we have two problems. The first, and perhaps most obvious, is the price. Even with recent price cuts and discounts, the Strix GTX 1070 Ti is expensive, though still slightly cheaper than the RTX 2070.
There’s also an unusual selection of ports. As you can see, most of these cards have three DisplayPorts, plus one HDMI and one DVI. This one, however, includes two DP outputs and two HDMI outputs, which can be a problem for those with triple monitor setups.
In addition, there is the same drawback as the previous Gigabyte model, namely the size of the card, which does not allow it to be installed in small cases.
Product points:
- Ideal for applications with limited airflow
- Clean and minimalistic design
Indicates product:
- Fan makes noise under load
- Without backplate
About the video card
As for the final entry, we have something unusual. This is another Asus card, but it’s not a Strix model. Rather, it is the GTX 1070Ti Turbo Edition, the fan version. This type of cooling isn’t as popular with GPUs (more on that below), although fans do have their merits.
At first glance, it’s obvious that Asus has taken a different approach to this model when it comes to design: no aggressive gaming aesthetic or RGB lighting, just a nice, minimalistic look that will blend seamlessly into almost any build.
functions
Base clock | 1607 MHz |
Boost watch | 1721 MHz |
communication | 2x DisplayPort 1. 4 2x HDMI 2.0 1x Dual Link DVI-D |
Power input | 180W |
Recommended power supply | 500W |
Our Thoughts
Don’t be fooled by the clean looks — this is still a gaming graphics card and can keep up with the previous two models when it comes to overclocking. However, this fan has its advantages and disadvantages.
I mean all fans have in common that they are loud. After all, it’s just a fan pulling air from the back of the card, so you need to keep the RPMs pretty high.
So while this card will compete with the previous two in performance, it will be slightly louder. Even so, however, supercharged cards are ideal for narrow cases with little airflow because, as mentioned above, they have a closed appearance and expel hot air from the back of the card and out of the case.
How to choose the best GTX 1070 Ti for your needs
Choosing a component is never easy, so if you choose the GTX 1070 Ti, you still have to choose the right model for your needs. In this section, we’ll look at some of the important features to consider before making your choice.
Cooling: supply air or blower
When it comes to air cooling, there are two ways to do it: outdoor coolers or fan coolers.
Outdoor cooling is the most common solution for mainstream graphics cards and probably the best overall solution. The external cooler uses one to three fans to draw cold air into the heatsink and exhaust hot air.
The external cooling issue now occurs when there is poor airflow in the chassis and/or there are not enough fans installed in the chassis. That is, as long as the card remains at acceptable temperatures, unwanted heat can easily build up inside the case, which can cause other components to overheat.
This is where fans come in. They are usually found on reference cards and differ only in the fan and closed appearance. Thus, the air entering the radiator is blown back and out of the case. And while this is great for tight boxes with limited airflow, the fans can get a bit louder than multi-fan outdoor coolers.
However, it should be quite obvious which type of cooling is the best solution for you depending on your application. If it’s a spacious case with one or two extra fans, an outdoor card would be the best option. On the other hand, if you have a smaller and narrower case, a fan would be a better option.
Cooling: cards with one, two or three fans
So we’ve compared outdoor coolers and air coolers, but when it comes to outdoor coolers specifically, what does the number of fans indicate?
As mentioned above, outdoor refrigerators use one, two or three fans. As you’ve probably already noticed, there are no single-fan cards on this list as they are reserved for weaker GPUs, something the GTX 1070 Ti definitely doesn’t. Single-fan cards have the advantage of being extremely compact and often slightly less expensive than cards with more fans, but it doesn’t make sense to focus too much on them in this guide.
Dual fan cards are generally the best compromise for most cards as they usually provide the best balance between size, cooling efficiency and noise level.
In the case of high-end cards, triple-fan models tend to be the more attractive option due to their higher cooling capacity, and let’s face it, if you’re buying a GTX 1070 Ti, you’ll want to push it up. to its limits. As mentioned in several posts, the main problem with triple fan cards is that they take up quite a bit of space, so for the most part they can only be used in ATX or eATX cases.
Connectivity: DisplayPort vs. HDMI vs. DVI
Finally, we have ports. Modern GPUs and displays use DisplayPort, HDMI o DVI as a means of interfacing with each other, although Puertos VGA are still present in some budget models.
A key factor to consider when choosing a port is its maximum supported resolution, as well as the maximum supported refresh rate at a given resolution.
DisplayPort 1.4 is definitely king in this regard as it supports 8K at 60Hz, 4K at 120Hz and QHD and FHD can go up to 240Hz. HDMI 2.0 is a bit more limited as it can only run at 60Hz in 4K and 120Hz in QHD and FHD.
DVI can’t keep up because it can only do QHD at 60Hz and FHD at 144Hz. As such, it’s still a viable connector for the GTX 1070 Ti, although both DisplayPort and HDMI are a better option.
The best GTX 1070 Ti for 2021: our opinion
In the end, if we were to choose the best GTX 1070 Ti, we would have to choose the model Asus RoG Strix . This is by far the best card in our opinion due to its beautiful design and top-notch performance. Sure, it can be expensive, but if you’re already buying a GTX 1070 Ti, why leave a few tens of dollars for a full gaming experience?
But of course the value of the other cards listed here should not be underestimated, as they are all viable options on their own. If you’re on a budget or looking for a more compact version, it should be pretty obvious which models might best suit your needs.
