Help setting up RivaTuner Statistics Server

I’m trying to set up RTSS and I’m having an issue where the OSD isn’t showing up in any game.
Any RTSS experts here who could help me fix this?
I suspect the problem might be that I only installed RTSS and not RTSS + MSI Afterburner, but I don’t overclock and have no use for Afterburner so I don’t see why I should need to install it just to get RTSS working.

Yes you need Afterburner also, but you dont have to overclock, just go to settings and setup the OSD on what info you want display (CPU/GPU/Mem speed, temp etc) and setup a hotkey to activate the OSD when gaming.

I haven’t done this in a long time but I’m pretty sure you can click the show own statistics setting in rivatuner and use it without afterburner or evga precision. It will only show FPS alone though.

I believe you can get a basic framerate counter with RTSS w o afterburner

From my understanding Afterburner is what provides the stats needed for the overlay. If you want a nice OSD you want Afterburner.
Rivatuner meanwhile is what injects the stats as an ingame OSD (and also does cool framerate capping). Without Afterburner the only stat you get from Rivatuner is a simple framerate counter.

How to use RivaTuner statistics to monitor your PC hardware

Server statistics RivaTuner is a super interesting option for monitor which represents temperatures of our components in the game. Thus, it is not necessary to have multiple monitors to be able to know all this information, but we can do it through the application’s on-screen menu. In addition, we may know data such as component usage, FPS, consumption or voltage, among other things.
A long time ago it was impossible to know how hot our GPU / GPU or CPU was when playing games. However, the release of MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics fixed this issue. MSI Afterburner is the program that we will need to install in order to use RivaTuner, since it works as a complement to the first one. However, you will find that it is very easy to use and install.

Tablet Devices
MSI Afterburner is a program that has gained great fame over the years for its good work. From the very beginning, its goal was change the graphics card settings such as memory frequency, voltage, fan speed, etc. In addition, it shows us the usage of the GPU, such as its temperature. In short, MSI Afterburner is a program that allows us to customize many aspects of our graphics card.
We are talking about this application because we will need it to install RivaTuner Statistics , and thus control the temperature of our equipment in the game.
Install MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner
To download MSI Afterburner, we need to go to its official website, download the ZIP file, open it and run the installer. You can extract it if you feel more comfortable, but this is enough to complete it.
You will see that this does not involve additional difficulties, it simply consists of clicking «next». After that, the wizard gives us the option to install RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) or not.
There are two ways to do this:
- Install everything together in one wizard.
- Install MSI Afterburner on the other side and RivaTuner on the other side.
We advise you to do everything together because in this way we ensure that both applications have compatible versions. Next, you select the path where you want to install the program, and it will begin the installation.
Configure MSI Afterburner
RivaTuner looks like it’s a separate program, but we have to tune it from MSI Afterburner. To do this, launch MSI Afterburner and left click on the « gear » on the center panel.
Those of you who have selected « beta version » interface is different. To access the same menu, you have to left click on the gear, which is here located on the left sidebar.
In the new Properties window, we will navigate to General tab to make sure you have the following options enabled. First of all, pay attention to Compatibility Properties.
If you have most of them disabled, click » Apply «. 0007
- Information update period , We recommend setting it to 1000 because it is constantly updated.
- Monitoring Table . We must click on the left to select it. Also, you can choose the data provider (HWInfo, HWMonitor, AIDA64, etc.).
- Chart Properties , Just below the table we have 3 options:
- On Screen Display (OSD). This option allows you to view the selected graphics in the game.
- Display information on the machine’s keypad LCD. This option only works on keyboards with a screen designed to display specific values.
- Show in taskbar. If we activate it, it allows us to view the temperature on the taskbar.
Select the values you want to see (usage, frequency, temperature, load, consumption, voltage, etc.) in the game. Then you check the display options you want (OSD, LCD, or taskbar) and when you’re done, click Apply.
Finally, we only need to set up one tab in MSI Afterburner: « Screen Information «. It is next to «Monitoring» and we are only interested in first 3 options of . You will understand that this is the key display. You can leave MSI’s default one, or choose others
We’d have finished setting up RivaTuner statistics from MSI Afterburner by now, so be prepared to keep an eye on your hardware temperatures.0007
Configure RivaTuner statistics
It’s time to configure RivaTuner so that the information is displayed in the most convenient way. As usual, RivaTuner will be minimized by in the drop-down list in the right corner of the taskbar; in fact it usually starts automatically with Windows (can be disabled).
You can launch RivaTuner and the monitoring window will open in MSI Afterburner. You can close it because we have already configured what we need. It’s time to finally set up RivaTuner before playing.
The interface is simple and there is no configuration menu : everything is configured from one panel. First of all, the «Show OSD» option must be activated for it to work properly. The remaining parameters of interest to us are located on the right side of the interface.
We summarize what each option is for as follows:
- Application detection level . This is the detection level that RivaTuner will have when we open a video game. Personally, I recommend the «Low» option because it works great. I tried «Medium» and «High» but my experience was bad: Photoshop identified it as a video game and showed me all the information above.
- Stealth mode , This is a stealth mode that I do not recommend to activate.
- Direct3D custom support , It is used to support custom Direct3D. I also recommend turning it off.
- Frame Rate Limit , If you want to limit the number of frames per second you want me to show you in game, select a number. This is useful for those who use monitors with limited refresh rates (60Hz). You won’t mind the game running at 150 FPS if we only have 60Hz.
- Scanline Sync , This is an interesting option to eliminate tearing without delay for screens that do not have G-Sync or FreeSync. Personally, I prefer to use v-sync and leave it at 0.
- OSD support , This is OSD support, leave it on to control temperature with RivaTuner.
- Screen display rendering mode , This is just a character or font display. You can choose Vector 3D (soft option) or Raster 3D and the font you want.
The options shown below are related to changing the letter: with shadow, color, scaling, etc. Finally, I will tell you that you can create the profiles you want, how to move the OSD so that it does not interfere with you during the game.
For the sake of demonstration, I chose to display the following values:
- GPU temperature and load .
- CPU temperature and consumption .
- FPS .
Without a doubt, this is one of the best ways to control the temperature of our components while playing.
- PC
- Windows
